>> in d.c., the national council of black churches pulled together a dozen protesters at the justice department. >> five civil rights charges against george zimmerman. >> the feds have now restarted the civil rights investigation that had been paused while florida pursued murder charges against zimmerman. >> the department will continue to act in a manner that is consistent with the facts and the law. >> but a lot of legal experts say that civil rights charges in this case may be a long shot. >> boycott florida. boycott florida. boycott florida. >> bruce leshan, wusa9. >> well, that trayvon martin case struck a lot of nerves and for a lot of reasons. among them, it highlighted a situation that has become alarmingly common. an act of violence ending with the death of a young man. bruce johnson has that part of the story. >> washington area young people have vowed to make some noise over george zimmerman's acquittal. the demonstration by this diverse park and howard university on sunday was but -- >> the outcome would not have been the same. >> omar, that's another name that res enates these days. he was a rising senior shot on july 4, not far from campus in a robbery attempt. his assailant still at large, but the odds say it was probably a black man. >> the value of a black life isn't that much. >> i talked with three students today. the slains of omar sikes and trayvon martin offered no new lessons. they are mere reminders that black men are at higher risk of being injured. >> we are an endangered species, of course, but i don't think anybody is to blame but ourselves. >> you have to know that, okay, i have to fend for myself and deal with things the way i was taught. >> they are upset with the george zimmerman verdict. >> yeah, i'm going to fight. >> did you ever act the same way? >> i would have kept on walking. >> did you know he had a gun? >> i will find my way to get away. >> right now, we are all looking for the right words and hoping and praying for our sons. bruce johnson, wusa9. >> love to know what you have to say about this. the address here, mailbag@wusa9.com. or you can join in with the conversation right now on the wusa9 facebook page. >> 255 people are behind bars tonight facing charges related to child pornography. they were all rounded up during a five-week. they focused heaviest on areas in l.a. and baltimore. in addition to suspected child predators, the operation also unveiled a disturbing trend. >> in many instances, the abusers take advantage of a sexual image that child and the chat room or over a text to force the child that continue to produce darker and more pornographic images on threat of broader disclosures of the images over the internet. >> now, in addition to arresting the suspected offenders, ice officials say they identified 61 kids who had been victims of them find counseling and in some cases, put them in foster care. >> d.c. police are hoping new video help them identity suspects saturday night. police say the men boarded a metro bus on stanton road in southeast and then opened fire on folks standing out on the sidewalk. now nobody was seriously hurt. but you can look at the video, which investigators say show the two men getting on the bus. the first one described as 6'4" and 170-pounds with dread locks pinned toward the back of his head. the second is 5'6", also 160 to 170-pounds with long black hair. anybody who knows anything is asked to call police. terri reid is moving forward with a plan on the way the u.s. senate does business. as we speak, there's an unusual meeting going on. all 100 senators huddled up in secret, talking about ways to avoid what they call the nuclear option. now let's break down what that is exactly. they are talking about changing the rules for the approvals of nominations only. nothing else. according to democrats, the constitution says only a simple majority of senators have to vote yes. not the 2/3 vote. the rules call for under a filibuster. the republican -- >> legislation, i love the senate. right now, the senate is broken and needs to be fixed. >> now republicans who right now are in the minority don't want this to happen because it would weaken their power. this could blow up in their faces. if they make this change, they could lose control down the road and of course, their power wok weaker. well, beware of the meter maid unless wusa9 is on your side. up next, we are helping confused drivers and the city putting out the parking problems in one local neighborhood. and live from the nation's capitol. you're watching your only local news at 7:00. we'll be right back. you find your parking spot, you back in, hopefully without hitting one of the cars around you and run off and when you come back, bam. you have a d.c. parking ticket. that story is not new. in fact, it's not even news. but one man's tale of ticket trouble goes way beyond all that. here is andrea mccarren with a story you'll only see on wusa9. >> like vultures circling a fresh carcass. patrick williams pickup truck never stood a chance. >> i felt like i was getting robbed. >> d.c.'s parking enforcement swooped in and laid a dreaded pink ticket on his windshield. all in the span of roughly 45 seconds. >> it's like, living in d.c., it's like you need -- >> here's what happened. patrick felt lucky when he spotted a parking space as he turned left on to park road in northwest washington. >> if you can see the sign, it says two-hour parking. so i pulled in, i parked my vehicle right where this car is. >> right where the red car is? >> he pulled in and walked briskly up the street. only by chance did he glance up and spot this other sign, clearly obscured by tree branches. in a most confusing manner, it indicates there's no parking because of street sweeping on monday morning. >> 9:30 to 11:30 no parking. i go back down to move my vehicle. at that point, ticket writers are posting a ticket on my car. >> how far is the street sweeping sign from where patrick parked? >> it is the hottest time of the year, so we were hot this time last year. 96 today, derek, that is just the beginning of a week-long bout with 90s. let's start with a live look outside. this looks very nice. this is our weather cam. it looks pretty clean out there, doesn't it? well, it's still hot. it's still 92. the dew point is still hovering around 70. so that's just not that comfortable. winds out of the north. that's a good sign. and the pressure falling over the past hour. so, let's compare 2012 and 2013. 2012 is in red. so tomorrow, we're going 95. last year we were 96. wednesday, we're going 96. last year we were 100. on thursday, we're going 97. we were 101 last year. finally on friday, we went to battle. 98 for us this year. we were 95 a year ago on friday's date. okay, temperature wise. 90 in germantown. 86 in reston. 87 in fairfax. not crazy hot yet. i don't know why it's 96 in college park. we'll throw that 96 out. you factor in the humidity and it feels like it's 102 in leesburg and 104 in annapolis and feels like it's in the upper 90s downtown. which is why we say exercise in the morning, not in the evening. heat advisory downtown tomorrow from noon until 7:00. which means the heat index has to be about 105 or higher. temperatures mid to upper 90s all week. only isolated thunderstorms. that is it. so, what can you do? "the democratic party of virginia sponsored this ad." when congress failed to renew the violence against women act, republican and democratic attorneys general from 47 states spoke out to protect women. but ken cuccinelli refused. the roanoke times wrote, "virginians should remember cuccinelli's cowardly inaction as he seeks to become the next governor."
