alert meteorologist erica grow. it's pleasant out there especially compared to yesterday. we had all that rage. temperatures are in the -- all that rain. temperatures are in the 40s. 49 in damascus. only 46 in bowie. 50 at andrews and 50 in crofton right now. as we head through the afternoon, the sunshine will help get things milder and we'll have a downsloping wind coming off the appalachians. that will help to warm our temperatures up. 73 at 1:00. 77 at 3:00 with just a few clouds. there is the potential for a sprinkle or shower up toward the pa-maryland border but not in the immediate metro area. a dry and really, really nice weekend on tap in the first alert seven-day forecast. right now time again for timesaver traffic and larry miller. no issues around the beltway this morning. three and a half million u.s. citizens. before it's too late. 90 degrees one day, 50s, 60s the next. >> temperatures plunge. that's what happens this time of year when you get the on shore flow. that's what really happened yesterday. the ocean is still cold. happy medium today. we have a downsloping flow coming off the appalachians. that helps to warm the air up and then this weekend looks phenomenal. let's take a look right now. getting it started with the michael & son weather cam. there goes the kennedy center and here comes some beautiful temperatures. 71 degrees by noon. lots and lots of sunshine. but the wind will be gusty at times this afternoon. notice the winds out of the west, northwest at noon, 14 miles per hour at 5:00. your temperature will be 75 degrees at that point. that's dropping down from a high of 77 which we'll reach at 3:00 p.m. right now 50 degrees in orange. it's 51 in fredricksburg. only 43 degrees in martinsburg. those temperatures are going to warm up pretty quickly as we head into the afternoon. so on our wide view of satellite and radar, notice how dry it is behind this system but this weak disturbance that is to the north of us is called a back door cold front because it approaches from the north instead of approaching from the west. that could trigger a sprichgle in places like hagerstown, maybe even toward martinsburg but i do think the best potential for the sprinkle or shower will be north of the mason-dixon line. you'll see that here on 9 futurecast. nice temperatures. we're in the mid-70s today. upper 70s in a couple spots. here come the sprinkles and showers possibly making a quick raindrop in germantown, leesburg but it's not actual rain you'll see in the forecast today. maybe a couple of the quick hitting drops and everything moves out again and we start the day comfortably cool on saturday morning. in the afternoon it is going to be just slightly cooler than it will be this afternoon but that's partly because the winds really settle down. notice how the arrows are small here and kind of scattered around. that means the wind direction is not very solid. we don't have a big wind flow on saturday so nice and calm, nice and comfortable. today it will be gusty but it will be pleasahigh of 80 degrees in fredricksburg. 77 in manassas and downtown washington. 76 in fredericksburg. we're going to reach a high -- sorry, 76 in frederick, maryland for your afternoon high. overnight tonight we'll dip down to 43 in hagerstown where you have a better potential for a sprinkle our shower. 52 in downtown washington and 47 in both manassas and culpeper. over the next three days keeping the green weather alerts with us. just the slightest potential of a shower north and west of the beltway with a high of 77. 74 on saturday and back up to 84 on sunday and the heat and humidity return next week in the first alert seven-day forecast. memorial day, though, should be dry. larry, how are those roads looking? glrs i'm nikki burdine live near the bay bridge. it's windy out here. i didn't have to pay extra for this wind machine but as far as traffic goes, you're looking pretty good out here. it's not bad at all but you know all good things must come to an end. here to tell us that is lon anderson with aaa. it's going to get bad today, isn't it. >> it really is. 90 purposes of the almost a million people that are going to be leaving washington are going to be doing so by car. 90%. yeah, it's moving well right now but we no later today what's coming. this is really our first big chance to kick winter goodbye and this is the beginning of the summer and we're projecting very good weather this weekend. so we're pretty confident there's going to be a lot of people headed across that bridge. in fact, they're projecting something like a quarter of a million trips this weekend across the bay bridge. you may not see it now but trust me, that traffic is coming. >> reporter: it looks good right now but if you haven't left yet, are you screwed? >> no, i think it's going to hold up pretty well for a while but later today, i think it's going to be very, very heavy. the sooner you can get away, the better it's going to be but come 4:00, 5:00 this afternoon, there are going to be long lines across the bay bridge. another thing that we know is fueling this is the fact that gas prices are almost a buck a gallon less than they were last year. so we know gas prices have been going up but right now they're still a buck less than last year. >> reporter: good news for your pocket. bad news for travelers. before we send it back, i have a twitter question from my friend matt. he wants to know if the delaware memorial bridge down to dewey is a better option. >> i don't think so i think right now it's moving pretty well and you can take 50 to 404. that's a pretty quick way to the delaware beaches. >> reporter: good to know. thank you so much. fyi, tomorrow we also got the navy graduation so if you think tomorrow is going to be better, you might want to think again. just get out the door as soon as you can, pack your patience, drive careful and take your time. live near the bay bridge, i'm nikki burdine, wusa9. good advice there, thank you so much. your time 6:19. if i could second all of that, folks, if you're going to be traveling, i suggest you leave earlier rather than later if you can leave now after the newscast. marc train you're running on schedule. vre running on schedule. no issues there. on the inner loop of the beltway we're problem free this morning. certainly good news there especially if you're going to be traveling from river road to kenilworth avenue. an 1-minute commute this morning. eastbound on i-66 no problems there. just volume as you approach centreville going from sudley road to constitution avenue northwest, a 30-minute commute this morning. looks like 95 is probably the biggest culprit on the southbound side as we're starting to see a lot of volume mainly in the occoquan and dale city area. but if you're traveling northbound from dale boulevard up to 395 a 12-minute commute this morning. westbound on 50 from our folks out in prince george's county we're problem free in that area by the way. from crain highway to n street northwest you're looking at an 18-minute commute. a live look shows you how things are shaping up on 50 where we were just talking about. again no issues if you're traveling westbound going through crofton, mitchellville, even bowie. you can see all the roads there are clear this morning. and again no issues around the beltway for those of you traveling on the inner and outer loop. we'll send it over you to. >> thank you, larry. 6:21. this is mike hydeck in the newsroom following some of the other stories now
