I can tell you the main roads, we were on Buckeystown Pike all morning long. It was fine as well, just very wet. Rain off and on. I still had to keep my wipers on just a little bit. But thats the good news here, that crash off of park mill road and 80 is all cleared. Its cleaned up right now soin your way. But your traffic this morning is going to be just fine so far because there is no rain coming down right now. It will be a very emotional day for the 400 folks and everyone here at the navy yard. That building will reopen this morning. We will get a chance to look inside. But were told that everything is new from top to bottom. A new cafeteria, new offices, even the paint and the carpet. Its a 6. 4 million renovation. Really designed to erase those horrible memories of september 16, 2013. Of course we all remember that day. It was that morning that former contractor aaron alexis roamed the halls of the Navy Sea Systems command headquarters with a sawed off shotgun. Police eventually killed that mentally ill man but not before he took the lives of 12 innocent people inside. In fact, the entrance where the first person who was killed, a 52yearold security guard, that entrance has now been moved. There is a brand new entrance and inside that new entrance, the one and only sign of that deadly shooting. It is a memorial to the 12 people who lost their lives here. So again about 4,000 people in all are expected to come, 400 each day. So of course its going to be a long process, a long and slow process that will take about eight weeks. Thousands of pages of documents have been released in the case of an unarmed man who was shot to death by a Fairfax CountyPolice Officer in springfield. John geer was killed in the driveway of his home in august 2013. Police say officer adam torres fired the fatal shot that killed geer after responding to a domestic dispute. An audiotape shows military veteran and fairfax Police OfficerRodney Barnes was shot by the shooting shocked by the shooting. [indiscernible] the reason were here, it was a domestic dispute. He said i have a gun. You guys have guns, i might need mine. The family had been searching for information on his case for more than a year. Two children are in Child Protective Services after their parents left them inside a car to attend a wine tasting. The parents have been charged with first degree cruelty to children. D. C. Police say passersby called after noticing the children alone inside a car saturday engineer 23rd and l streets northwest. Police confirmed both children are under 2 years of age. Officers eventually located the parents inside the upscale riss restaurant at a private wine tasting evefnt. The patriots are event. The latest recall involves defects that could cause the airbags to deploy unexpectedly and cause a crash. Some of the vehicles included were already in another recall. The problem appears to be a faulty crash sensor that deploys the airbag. What were talking about is that remedy was not fully effective. So now we have a second recall that will involve a new remedy. Federal Officials Say it could take months for the automakers to come up with a proper fix for this airbag problem. New warnings are out this morning about a danger that could be lurking in food for toddlers. The centers for Disease Control says the danger is too much salt and too much sugar. The problem could contribute to obesity and high blood pressure, they say. The cdc says the culprits include most cereal bars, breakfast pastries and snacks all of which they say contain too much sugar for toddlers. Many have retired. So many others have asked for reassignment because they say even though the building has been completely renovated, it still reminds them of that fate fall day. It was the morning of september 16, 2013. Former contractor and severely mentally ill man aaron alexis stormed the building with a sawed off shot gun. He killed 12 innocent people inside before police took him down. His twohour rampage spread terror throughout the building and in this whole area as we saw police and the f. B. I. And even a. T. F. Agents moving in. We saw crews helping rescue folks and saw lots of those rescues happening via helicopter from the roof. Now, i can tell you the navy spent a whopping 6. 4 million to change the whole building, to renovate and redesign the cafeteria, the offices. They even changed some of the paint and carpet. Were told the one and only sign of this deadly shooting that happened 17 months ago, a memorial dedicated to the 12 people who lost their lives. The cdc is now reporting more than 100 cases of measles across 14 states. They include an infected College Student who boarded an amtrak train to new york and a delaware woman who returned with the infection after traveling abroad. Health officials are worried about it spreading to pennsylvania now. According to the cdc, nearly 15 of all kindergarten age children in the keystone state failed to get the measles vaccine last year. President obama sent his 4 trillion Budget Proposal to congress today. Hes proposing higher taxes on wealthier americans and corporations. Mr. Obama is also calling for an ambitious 478 billion Public Works Program for highway, bridge and transit upgrades. The proposals are drawing fierce opposition from the Republicanled Congress. In an nbc interview, president obama signaled hes willing to listen to ideas presented by republicans as well. A bill aimed at reducing suicides among military veterans appears headed to the president s desk. Today the senate the is expected to vote on an a on and approve the clay hunt bill. Hunt was a 26yearold veteran who killed himself in 2011. The bill would require the pentagon and Veterans Affairs departments to submit to independent reviews of their Suicide Prevention programs. It would also offer financial incentives to psychiatrists and other Mental Health professionals who go to work for the v. A. According to the pentagon an average of 22 veteran suicides are reported every day. There is still no official word right now on the condition of Bobbi Kristina brown. She is the daughter of singers bobby brown and the late whitney houston. She was found face down and unresponsive in a bathtub inside her georgia home this weekend.
