7 months behind bars. a secret effort to funnel money to the mayoral campaign during his successful run for office. he acknowledged he helped to provide $8,000 to a potential witness, so he would be out of town and unavailable to talk to investigators. imagine going out to get in your car finding it up on cinder blocks with no tires. >> gone. that's happened a dozen times in fairfax county over particular sprinkles and showers will stay north of nats park. so we are tracking more showers and maybe a thunderstorm tonight. the biggest threat for storms will be south of fredericksburg tonight. bus stop temperatures tomorrow, 54-62. a couple of showers but not too, too bad. right now, we're not going to issue a yellow weather alert for tomorrow. we reserve the right to do. scattered showers and thunderstorms on wednesday. warmer with more showers on thursday and friday. but again, no one day will be a washout. 10:00 tonight, here comes the showers racing eastward. we want the nats to dispose of the tigers in a timely fashion tonight. by 10:00, 59 downtown, 58n leesburg and 55 in gaithersburg. notice the heavy activity kind of roll through between la plata and points south, and by several more. it started with an incident of domestic violence, the suspect eulalio tordil, was at one point on the radar of the prince george's county police department. wusa 9's stephanie ramirez reports from outside of police headquarters. >>reporter: yesterday, the police spokesperson told us they did not know of child abuse allegations against eulalio tordil, today, we learned that they did in fact receive a report, a detective along with a social worker looked at it, and decided to kick the investigation back to child protective services. why is one of these several important questions in the aftermath of the deadly shooting spree, the prince george's county county state's attorney is look intoog this among in other thing, but the main issue for advocates of domestic violence victims remains suspect was able to maintain a firearm. even after protection orders required him to turn them in. >> there were so many highly -- factors in this case, the access to firearms, his highly trained military background. an assessment was a test, a tool to assess what kind of danger they might be. in fr july 2014 to last june, 55% of domestic violence related deaths in maryland involved the use of a gun. the protection order in this case didn't stop the suspect. jordan hopes what happened here doesn't discourage victims from seeking one. >> yes, protective orders are awesome, the most effective and the first line of defense for survivors of domestic violence. they're not magic wands and not the only one that anything should do. >>reporter: this is a civ criminal charges filed against someone, which could be another way to get police involved. in prince george's county, stephanie ramirez, wusa 9. now, stephanie did get an update from the police saying some of the most serious abuse allegations made were believed to have happened in arizona and not in maryland, police tell us why the case was investigated by cps that eventually pushed to arizona for further who's already dealt with zika virus, who is deeply concerned about this. today, she spoke with us about the case of a pregnant washington woman, who got zika on a trip to central america, and brought it home. the outcome wasn't good. wusa 9 scott broom is there to tell us more. >>reporter: this was frankly an alarming interview particularly if you're pregnant or thinking about it, alarming because it happened here. not in some tropical country, although the disease was brought in from a topical country. and it involved a tragic decision to abort a zika-infected fetus, a the doctor that led the way, talked about it. >> she was a ply 11 weeks when she travelled to central america. >>reporter: director of maternal fetal medicine, author of an important case study, published in the new england journal of medicine, that appears to confirm the suspected link between zika and a tragic birth defect called microcephaly, babies with denormed tiny heads and se fear neurological -- severe neurological l damage. >> on our doorsteps. >>reporter: her d.c. patient and her husband got zika from the dreeded mosquito while -- dreaded mosquito while travelling. >> the problem became evident. >>reporter: it was alarming that early ultrasounds of the fetus looked okay o, but a couple of weeks later, there was clearly terrible trouble developing in the fetal brain, a difficult decision to make. >> it was confident that the neurologic outcome of the baby her and her husband came to the decision that they would term that the pregnancy. what they wanted more than anything was for people to learn from their misfortune. she underwent induction of labor, which allowed us to perform fushl further evaluation studies on the baby. we certainly want to advise people that if you don't have to travel to a fekted area s. but we may become an affected area come the mosquito months. >>reporter: her paper on all of this was published at the end of march, as huge anxiety about this because the type of mosquito that spreads sdik canca is not -- zika is not just a tropical mosquito, it is in 50 u.s. metropolitan areas, including here in washington, d.c.. so far, the 472 people who have opinion conifered with zika in the u.s., they got it somewhere else, but clearly, there is anxiety because of of this mosquito. and at some point in the future, we'll start getting cases that originate here in the united states, and doctor drigers and the other doctors here are most certainly on the lookout for that. i'd like to mention by the way, she says she's seeing women every day now, who have travelled somewhere else who are deeply concerned that they, too, may be facing a zika-infect fetus. scott broom, wusa 9. >> it will get worse, unfortunately as we enter the sticky season. zika symptoms include fever, rash, joint pain, and red eyes. 80% of people infected with the virus won't show any symptoms, here's how you protect yourself. first, avoid travel to any areas system for a longer period of time than alcohol. so you might be seeing if you do the -- seem if you do the blood test under the the influence, if you are not. i don't know what this study does, gron
