The National Weather service says the tornado was about 100 yards wide and less than a quarter mile long when it touched down friday morning at Smith Mountain lake. The storm caused minor damage to homes but fortunately no one was hurt. In the small town of edenton, workers at a produce stand say they were just about to open for the day when all of the sudden a tornado came through, ripping the roof off the business. The National Weather service says the tornado traveled 6 miles with 70 to 80mileperhour winds. The force of the storm also damaged several storms in the area. A wildfire spewing thick smoke from Southeast Georgia to jacksonville, florida has forced many people from their homes tonight. That fire caused authorities in carlton county, georgia to issue a mandatory evacuation order. That fire started in the okie fanoki National Refuge and pushed its way south. It pushed the smoke all the way toward jacksonville. Out west, dramatic video of a huge refuge fire that broke out in california,bo the fire quickly spread to nearby palm trees and that lit up the night sky. Firefighters were quick and aggressive and knocked it down in a short time. No injuries were reported and at this point no one is quite sure how that started.
