he gets a lift wherever he wants, does he even have a driver's license? >> i'm a person in law enforcement. >> a mother is standing up for her son. a police officer under investigation for a dui crash. we begin with breaking news about a shooting in waldorf, maryland, and there's no easy way to say this. a man and a child as young as 2 are dead. a teenage girl and a woman have critical injuries. sky 9 was over the townhouse community and pete muntean is on the ground. >> reporter: charles county sheriff detectives are investigating it as an attempted murder-suicide. police got a flood of calls for neighbors reporting gun shots here. police took tactical positions as a precaution. they got into the home, and right away they found a man dead, and they found a little girl, maybe as young as 2 years old dead, and a woman was flown to the hospital, and police say she was talking, and a teenage girl was also medivaced with several bullet wounds. john washington owns the house next door, and a lot of town homes close together, but none thought this was coming. >> i'm nervous and shaking. you have to pray foe may have known the man who worked -- who lived next door. he believes he worked for metro. there's another family tragedy to share with you, involving a baby. the sheriff's office says an 8- month-old boy was attacked and killed by the family dog. it happened on francis court. deputies got there within a minute of the call, and the dog was still attacking the child. they shot and killed the dog. it happened while a family friend was watching the child. we are told criminal charges are not likely. this is called gravely troubling. the prince george's county sheriff's department suspend and officer for driving a cruiser and crashing while drunk. >> reporter: the crash happened on the beltway around0 thankfully no one was injured, but for the officer involved it may be his second dui in a police cruiser. >> reporter: that's crazy? -- that's crazy! and are you kidding? those were the facebook responses. >> reporter: this woman says he is 31-year-old christopher brown's mother and just learned of the arrest but could not say if brown may have a drinking problem. police tell us in 2012 officer brown pled guilty and faced administrative discipline for a crash in his cruiser. this morning police say it happened again. this time on the beltway near pennsylvania avenue, and brown's marked cruiser clipped the back of a tractor trailer and struck a guard rail according to a spokesperson who said brown was under the influence and left the scene but returned a short time later. >> it's something we take seriously and are very concerned about. br would caution that officer due process. >> reporter: on facetime, the police union president said the department does not have a policy for two or three time dui defenders. that's up to the chase to decide. >> she's a stand up guy. i believe he made a mistake. i do, and he is going to have to pay for it. >> reporter: police did not immediately release his blood alcohol level, but we know he is facing driving under the influence and speeding. stephanie ramirez, wusa 9. >> john thompson iii was fired from georgetown's men's basketball team today. he served in the position for 13 years, and over the last 2 seasons, his teams just could not win games, and our john henry spoke to fans about the move tonight, and for many, that represents the end of an era. >> reporter: for decades, a member of the thompson family has led the georgetown men's basketball team, but the university and the community adjust to change. welcome to the popular hangout for hoyas in georgetown. the restaurant attracts everything from current players to alumnis. george remembers when it was a power house. >> i was here from '81 to '85. great time to be a basketball fan. got spoiled winning a lot of games. >> reporter: he says today is certainly not a happy day for his alma mater. the firing of john thompson iii has left fans with mixed emotions. >> i have seen them do better. and on the other hand, i respect the thompson family. >> reporter: some feel the dismissal represents the school moving away from the legacy of his father. >> everyone knew who he was. >> reporter: demon johnson grew up in the southeast and he said it gave the district something to be proud of. >> georgetown basketball was washington, dc. when i was younger, my whole goal was to play basketball for it was like many of my friends. that's what we wanted to do. that's what we saw. >> reporter: on twitter many people writing about the connection the hoyas used to have with the blacks in the city, too. most fans said big john's son always had a lot to live up to. >> people expected him to live up to his dad's name. >> reporter: they hope georgetown does not forget everything he and his father accomplished. >> i hope they start part of georgetown. >> reporter: the question is who will take over the program. everyone i spoke to said they wish the next coach good luck. john henry, wusa 9. >> as you can imagine, today's news came as a bit of a surprise to some people. many of them turned to facebook to share their thoughts. >> here mike posted it's time for a change. good luck. >> robert brass sr. does not feel so good. bad move for the program, and steve said it needed to be done. you can've father's accomplishments. the team has underachieved for too long now. who will be the one to roam the sidelines for the hoyas. frank has perhaps some ideas as to who can replace jt iii. >> reporter: big shoes to fill even though the payday has long passed. it's an attractive job. expect a lot of coaches to be vying for the gig. names being floated out there as possible replacements, tommy amker, johnny dawkins, and former hoyas great and current nba assistant ewing. patrick helped to lead georgetown to the 1984 title, and this is a very big deal, and the search will continue and be led by the former nfl commissioner, paul tagliobu. he will head up the next search for the georgetown hopefully they can get someone quality in there. tonight a frustrated trump team issued an ultimatum. the president is demanding they take a vote today, friday, on repealing and replacing obamacare. what happened?
