rafte the san bernardino attacks last year. >> reporter: the fbi began monitoring williams' social media in march. around the time he posted his allegiance to the islamic state. by april undercover agents had them talking to him about his dreams of jihad. i can't wait till the day the black flag exists all over maryland, dc, and chicago, he told an fbi agent in may. they used aerial surveillance. something that never aroused the suspicion of his neighbors. >> he'd just go out and practice. i figured like my husband. my husband has guns. when you have a gun you want to shoot it. didn't think anything of it. >> reporter: the bureau watched and waited as williams tried to send $250 to buy ammunition for people he thought were isis fighters. last week something changed. williams told agents he'd found a wife and he was ready to attacking a hard target, likely police or military locally. on wednesday afternoon agents swarmed the farmhouse and arrested williams while neighbors watched. >> he's just a good man and i'm really sorry to see him go that way. >> reporter: after a brief court appearance today, u.s. marshals escorted williams back to jail. >> williams becomes at least the 112th person to be charged with an isis-related crime in the united states. according to the george washington university program on extremism, he's the 11th virginian to face such charges. a judge has ordered bomb threat suspect james cherry to remain behind bars pending further court proceedings. cherry is accused of making bogus bomb threats last summer against union station, a spot near the white house and near the mcpherson square metro stop. the fbi says cherry has admitted making those threats. according to it's been a busy day for german anti-terror squads. prosecutors say officers have searched properties in western germany and in berlin where a truck attacked suspect anis amri is believed to have spent time. amri's fingerprints have been found on the driver's door and side of the truck that was used to kill 12 people. also tonight, new video has surfaced showing the suspect this selfie clip is believed to have been recorded in berlin but it's not clear exactly when. security on the minds of many as holiday travel gets underway. airports across the country are getting busy. >> you're looking here at atlanta where people are lined up early to get out of town. a lot of people and their pets headed home for the holidays in charlotte. here in our area security lines at reagan national moving okay. a lot of people packed in to union station choosing to take looks great. central southern florida, low 80s. the east coast on friday, up and down the east coast, no problems whatsoever. so if you're driving or flying on the east cst wet. then we get better in 21-year-old erica grace morris. her family lost saw her early afternoon when she left home on cold spring road. this is yesterday. we're told she functions at a third grade level and likes to visit libraries on rockville and potomac. take a good look. if you see her, contact police. police chief says two officers were facing a, quote, imminent threat when one officer shot and killed a man holding a gun. it happened this morning along byers street. that's in capital heights. police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle they found two men asleep in a car. the chief says the driver woke up and pointed a gun toward one of the officers. the other officer hoped fire, killing 19-year-old second gun in the car. a fort worth, texas police department is investigating one of its own officers after an arrest he made was caught on tape. the white officer is scene wrestling two black women to the ground in what reportedly began as a call for help. >> this man grabbed him and choked him. >> reporter: the unidentified fort worth police officer appears to listen while jacqueline craig explains. from there things escalated. >> it doesn't give him the right to put his hands on him. >> reporter: craig's young daughter gets between her mother and the officer, and the officer takes the woman to the ground. craig and her two daughters were arrested. >> i was hurt about the whole matter. i don't feel like justice was served. >> reporter: fort worth police say they launched an immediate internal affairs investigation. we acknowledge that the initial appearance of the video may raise serious questions. wesk are given the time and opportunity to thoroughly examine this incident. craig's attorney says the officer should be held accountable. >> i want to see the arrest of that officer. i want to see him charged with crimes. i want to see the arrest of the original culprit, the person who struck the child. i want to see all charges against my client dropped. >> tonight the officer involved has been placed on restricted duty. the investigation will include a review of the body camera he was wearing during that incident. donald trump and vladimir putin are calling on their own nations to ramp up their nuclear arsenals. craig boswell is at the white house with more details. >> reporter: president-elect donald trump and russian president vladimir putin sent similar messages thursday about their country's nuclear capacities. in a speech to defense chiefs, putin said that russia needs to strengthen the military potential of strategic nuclear forces. hours later preside must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until which time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes. >> if you're talking about nuclear weapons policy over 140 characters, you don't know exactly what it means. >> reporter: a policy analyst studying nuclear proliferation. >> in terms of explosive power? or does that mean building more nuclear war heads? we're not sure. what we know is our enemies and allies alike will have no idea what the president-elect is talking about and that could be potentially destabilizing. >> president-elect trump weighed in on another issue, demanding the obama administration vote against the united nations resolution. the egyptian sponsored resolution would condemn israeli settlements. president-elect trump joined israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu in calling for a veto. that vote was later postponed. mr. trump rounded out his communications team. kelly anne conway special advisor. she'll help shape the and modernize america's nuclear deterrent capability. ivanka trump got an earful from a man on a jetblue flight preparing to leave new york state jfk airport. tmz reports trump was traveling in coach with her children and others when a man began yelling, and we're quoting here, your father is ruining the country. matt lasner who claimed to be the husband of the shouting man tweeted, ivanka and jarrett at jfk flying commercial. my husband chasing them down to harass them. jetblue removed the passenger and worked to place him on another flight. a local bartender is a hero tonight. wait till ambience? he'll make it happen. need the heimlich? he'll do it. that's what he served up a few weeks ago when a customer eating dinner with his wife and friends at the oakville grill and wine bar in bethesda began choking on a piece of meat. >> i saw the crowd of our workers saying someone is choking. i was running basically from here all over the restaurant. >> reporter: by the time darko ran to the customer's table, things were looking dire. >> she already started turning purple, blue. her breath was extremely short. she couldn't stand. she was almost down. >> reporter: while the table panicked, everyone else in the restaurant sat in stunned silence. >> everybody is afraid at that moment i guess. >> reporter: except one person. darko stood the choking man out, straightened him out and started the heimlich. he said it only took a few thrusts. >> after one big breath, started normally breathing. at that moment you don't know what you did and what you're doing. when the night was over, when i came home, when i was in my bed, you just start thinking about i and realizing that you actually saved someone's life. >> reporter: the customer turned out to be even more thankful just a few days later when he sent darko a christmas card. inside the card, a nice heartfelt thank you note. and a check for $5,000. >> which is something that i didn't expect. >> reporter: tonight that grateful customer who doesn't want to be identified stopped by the restaurant to once again say thank you. he's a regular here now. >> absolutely. >> reporter: with service like this, why not? >> you christmas tale. the search is on for two siberian lynx cubs. and the thief who snatched them. the catnapper stole the cubs monday night from wilson's wild animal park in winchester, virginia. the cubs are valued at piece. they figured the thief knew exactly what they were after. there's a hefty reward for anyone who can help bring the cubs home. >> where do you put them when you take them though? >> hopefully somewhere away from kids. >> they're not a house pet. everyone loves a story before bedtime, right? so why wouldn't you think the pets enjoy one too? >> at the fairfax county animal shelter they believe bedtime stories are for everyone, even the cats and dogs. >> i count six presents for you. >> reporter: for five nights now, people have come here in their pajamas to sit by a cage and read to an animal without a permanent home. >> only 12 days until christmas. >> i read to the cat but it barely listened. >> it feels like he's actually listening to you because he comes up to the cage and he lets you pet him like this right there. and he likes that. so it's really delicate. >> she's like wining a lot. but then she went to her bed and went to sleep. >> reporter: the idea behind it is simple. to spread cheer, to the animals -- >> it makes them feel like they have a home and they're comfortable. >> i don't think everyone has time to spend with all the animals so it was fair for all the animals. >> reporter: and the people. >> they're really playful and they kind of cheer you up when you're sad. >> reporter: i really love animals. >> of course the other reason for tonight is adoption. there are over 60 animals in this shelter. this right here is jeffro. all are available for adoption and he's one of them. >> i really want a dog but my mom says i need to be more responsible. >> reporter: volunteers started the night by teaching everyone about the shelter. and at the end, they all ate cookies and drank hot cocoa. and these guys had a better shot at finding a home for the holidays. >> if they get a family, then they have people and they can be happier. >> can you tell him merry christmas? and hope he's happy in his new home? okay. oh, he says merry christmas too. >> full of joy and excitement. >> exciting christmas morning. bring home a dog or cat. although you heard from the little girl there, said the cats apparently didn't take too well to the stories. they didn't listen very well. >> but the dogs looked like they were in to it. >> they were having fun. cats in to their own thing. dogs, all about it. >> pretty typical with cats and early next week near 60 once again. i am watching a storm system in the southwest. more rain this guy here, this is going to be our saturday rain maker. notice some of the snow already reaching in to nebraska and kansas. we're not going to be cold enough for any wintery precip. nice break in chicago and western ohio. that will be with us tonight for the first half of friday before the clouds start to move in. look at the futurecast, clear skies on friday morning. sunshine to start your day. even through midday. but in the afternoon, notice the clouds in west virginia, here they come. we'll finish the day with the clouds. saturday morning, even the early risers are going to see the wet weather. if you sleep at the crack of noon, got to love you. i'm jealous. but you may miss the rain. as we get past the lunch hour, the rain will pull away. we'll be in much better shape as we get in to saturday evening. saturday night and sunday. here comes high pressure building in. this storm so far west it's going to once again push milder air our way and we'll enjoy if you like that sort of t, relatively warm start to next week. warm for december. looking at the forecast for tonight, 20s and 30s, mainly clear. cold and dry. winds are getting lighter out there. sunset at 4:50. take another week and a half, two weeks before we get back to the 5 p.m. hour. 30s for the most part. sunny and cold. lighter winds tomorrow. more clouds in the afternoon. we won't be as warm. 45 to 50. winds going to the southwest at 5 miles per hour. 3-day forecast. yellow weather alert for saturday morning.
