Reporter a judge has upheld most of the fine, but during the Traffic Court proceedings the system of fines and the process has been under attack. They cut corners. They use just the name transurban. They didnt put an address on the summons, so it was hard to determine which entity was suing you because theres 12 entities named transurban. Reporter this man had an e zpass but was still fined several times even after trying to pay up. Its about 2,000 for 2. 80 violation. It doesnt add up. You know, loan sharks dont even charge interest like that. Reporter heres the response from transurban. There have been a number of court cases recently and my understanding is those have been going on in the courtroom which is where that discussion should take place. What transurban cares about is getting it so no customer end up in court. Reporter the cases are focusing on whether transurban had the proper authorization to fine coabusers, but an even bigger argument friday will challenge the constitutionality of the virginia legislation that created these wrestlings in the first place. The only real way to avoid the fine is to pay the toll with an ez pass, but there are some concerns about the technology. If youre worried about that, the only way to avoid the fine is not to use the express lanes. One group is managing to take both sides of the redskins name controversy. The American Civil Liberties union filed papers supporting the teams position cancelling the trademark would violate the teams right to free speech. The aclu argues the government cannot yank the trademark simply because it doesnt like the name.
