Prince georges county police say a father on a rampage was the one who shot and stabbed his own 3yearold daughter before he was killed in a shootout with police. The little girl died saturday after being discovered by officers inside her fathers car after a pursuit and gunbattle with at least six officers raising anxious questions about how the girl died. Tonight scott broom has new details on the exmarine behind the deadly attack and the latest on the police investigation. Reporter late today we learned the man at the center of this deadly explosion of Family Violence was 38yearold Frederick Roy miller, a disabled exmarine according to a neighbor who had been embroiled for years in a custody battle over his 3year old daughter. The final gunbattle was here on branch avenue saturday. Miller killed and his toddler daughter also dying after being pulled gravely wounded from millers car. Today Prince Georges County Police Reported the maryland medical examiners preliminary findings are that the girl was shot and stabbed by her own father. Were pretty shaken up. Reporter a witness who did not want to appear on video today wusa9 Stephanie Ramirez today the final gunfight was shocking. They proceeded to shoot the suspect maybe 30, 40 times. Reporter police say they also fired at miller a short distance away when he brandished a pistol after stopping his car after losing a wheel during the pursuit, but he got back in and attempted to drive away. The fatal chase started after a report of shooting at this house on farmers place and temple hills where the toddler was living with her 37year old mother and family according to court records. The girls maternal grandmother and grandfather were both critically wounded. Miller lived in this house in palmer park where there was no answer, but where neighbors called miller a Good Neighbor and said he was a disabled former marine who talked about his struggles to see his daughter. Court records indicate a long and torturous custody child is not battle that miller was mostly losing. At one point he was restricted to only supervised visitation. Now both he and his child are dead. According to police the girl shot and stabbed by her own father and police are continuing to investigate their role in the tragic ending. Tomorrow Prince Georges County police chief mark mcgaw has scheduled a press conference to discuss this case in detail. At Prince Georges County Police Headquarters scott broom, wusa9. Tonight Prince Georges County Police Released the names of five county officers and one state trooper who were involved in that gunbattle. All are on routine administrative leave until the investigation is complete. And in that community where the tragic series of events began neighbors are mourning the life of a little girl and some are still haunted by what they saw when the bullets started flying between police and their suspect. Stephanie ramirez has the chilling account of 1 witness. Reporter a witness who saw this unfold yesterday asked not to be identified. I heard the first barrage of gunfire which probably was at beech road and after hearing the first barrage i walked over to where i thought i heard the gunshots and by that time the police had surrounded a suspect and about four or five Police Officers got out of their cars and had their guns drawn and they proceeded to shoot the suspect maybe 30, 40 times. Reporter this witness today carried a heavy heart telling us he later saw when police discovered the 3year old girl inside to find out she died. Were pretty shaken up because of the age of the girl. Reporter all of yesterdays events starting with the double shooting of the 3yearold grandfather and great grandmother outside of their farmer place home silenced much of the neighborhood today except for its different churches. Their members of the community prayed for the family involved. Its really unbelievable. I cant even imagine the devastation of the parents and of the family members. Reporter those family members not seen sunday, today the only activity outside this home someone coming to take the homeowners vehicle away. Neighbors also stayed inside today devastated for their neighbors loss, different witnesses telling us they couldnt sleep last night. When something tragic like that happens to a 3yearold, it affects everybody no matter what age. Just last sunday another 3 yearold girl was shot and killed in Prince Georges County and tonight police are still searching for Davon Wallace in connection with the murder of knijah bibb in landover. Police say officer Darren Wilson shot brown after an altercation that left the officer injured. Witnesses say browns arms were up in the air when he was shot. Reporter saturday governor jay nixon declared a state of emergency and ordered a curfew, but at least seven protesters were arrested early sunday. Police used tear gas. In california vacationers, campers and hikers scrambled to leave the Angeles National forest as a fast moving brushfire swept through the area today. Los angeles county fire Officials Say the blaze has already charred more than 350 acres near Sun Gabrielle canyon. Evacuation orders were issued for camp grounds and homes in the area. Parts highway 39 were shut down for emergency vehicles to pass through. Meantime some 500 people in hotze, arkansas allowed to return to their homes tonight.
