riots that broke out along route 1, but that was not the case tonight. this is what's left of all the revelry, just a couple of stragglers still around. you can see some of the excitement out here. thankfully tonight this celebration was in fact rather tame. just as the game clock hit zero, the massive crowds of students poured on to route 1. they came from every direction. dozens quickly turned into thousands, all of them cheering and reveling into victory celebrations. >> people celebrate like this. i just hope that they don't do anything too -- >> i was at the game and i was absolutely crazy. >> reporter: the street party literally heated up when a huge bonfire on campus was lit. the scores of people went off the streets and on to campus. it kept the crowds from blocking the streets at least temporarily. as soon as the flames were over, they came right back out here on to route 1. a group of wild fans managed to snap off a light pole. thankfully no one was hurt. meanwhile, police were out in full force making sure the celebrations, although wild, stayed contained and relatively safe. >> this is a good crowd. these college students have every reason to be proud of their basketball team. we just want everybody to do it in a safe environment and then go home at the end of the night. >> reporter: once again back live. another look at route 1. traffic back to normal. a lot of mess left behind. cleanup crews will have a lot of work. thankfully this was not something that got terribly out of hand. there were a lot of police officers out here. state police, local police, university police, all of them did a pretty good job at containing the excitement out here. once again, andrea, only two arrests tonight. when this happened back in 2010 they had close to 30. you can compare how different this party was out here tonight. >> absolutely and a great win. thanks very much. there were some tense moments during the game when it looked, greg toland, like the terps might give it away. in the end they held on. >> sports guys are in the upstairs and you guys are down here. i don't know if you could hear that screaming. some of it was clean language. >> most of it. >> some of it was not unfortunately. but hey, it's all well's that ends well. barring a big 10 challenge game, duke may have played their last game at the comcast center. terps couldn't ask for a better finale. despite committing 26 turnovers, maryland hung on. let's show you how it happened. mark feeling the pressure in this one. pick it up in the second half. a steal, takes it the distance. that would give the terps a 7- point lead. you knew duke was going to make that run. they always do. well defended, doesn't matter, buries the 3. lead's down to 2. closing seconds, terps down by 2. lucky for the terps, the fans storm the court as the terps win a thriller. final 83-81. how sweet it is. >> there's also a lot of passion about maryland basketball. we talked about pride and passion, playing with those two things tonight. for us, and for our fans. our fans were just tremendous. never quit, never had a doubt we were going to win the game. >> we felt like we needed a big win, you know. this is it. going in the locker room after a win, everybody was just relieved. >> it was a big win for us, for the school. it's going to be noticed more on campus, things like that. so this was a great win. >> this was great to see a couple of seasons, maryland will be in the big 10. next year they only play once. so conceivably this could be the last game between duke and maryland at the comcast center. if it is, what a finale it certainly was. >> you won't shed any tears about the outcome. >> no, it's a wonderful thing. >> you heard the players saywhat a relief. it sure was. >> so many times we've seen in the history of this series big leads going down. and remember the final four even in 2001, terps fans still remember that stuff. so any time duke makes that run, you get a little nervous. but they were able to hold on this time around. >> thank you, greg. as you saw earlier, cold thursday didn't chill that enthusiasm in college park. right now a light snow is falling on parts of the washington area, but a big change on the way for tomorrow. let's check in with erica grow in the weather center for details. >> we had light snow showers in basically full weather forecast. back to you. >> thank you. a local family is still desperate for answers four long years after the disappearance of 47-year-old pamela butler. she was an analyst at the environmental protection agency who went missing around valentine's day of 2009. as surae chinn reports, she was last seen as her home in northwest washington. >> people say time heels everything, but -- heals everything, but it doesn't heal this. >> reporter: with each passing year, the hope of finding 47- year-old pam butler grows dim. but on a cold day, family and friends continue to gather in front of pamela's former home each year and pray. >> i wonder where, when, or why somebody did this to her. >> reporter: police have long suspected pam's ex-boyfriend, but there has never been enough evidence to charge him. family says he backed out of taking a lie detector test. the home has undertaken a makeover and a new homeowner but the mystery remains. pamela's disappearance is technically considered a missing person case but d.c. police have long believed pam was murdered. >> most adults with very steady returns do not just go missing. >> reporter: pam had an extensive surveillance system which captured her that night. she picked up her mail, went inside and hasn't been seen since. her brother claims cameras capture her ex. >> she's seen going in the house first. he's seen going in shortly after her. >> reporter: another mother haunted by her daughter's disappearance 2 1/2 years ago came to the candlelight vigil, crying out for answers. >> somebody out here knows what
