At 45th and jackson avenue both victims rushed to cooper hospital in camden. No word on their condition this morning. I stand with you today in the breach between love and hate. Philadelphia is standing in with the victims of charlottesville. At least 1,000 people turned out last night in center city for a vigil against hate. The vigil took place at thomas payne plaza across from city hall. Those who attended wanted to show support for the people who stood up against the bigotry and regional this weekend. Meanwhile the driver of the car that plowed into a crowd of counter protesters at the white supremacist rally had a his First Court Appearance today. 20yearold james alex fields junior has been charged with Second Degree murder, karen hepp joining us with more on this one. Karen, good morning. So many will be watching when he makes his court appearance, weve learned it will be Via Video Conference and the violence still gripping the entire nation. Call it for what it is. They were White Supremacists. Theyre not nazis. They dont stand for us Terry Mcaullife speaking at a prayer vigil. 32yearold Heather Heyer died when a car ran into a crowd of counter protesters. Plus, two state troopers monitoring saturdays mayhem were killed when the helicopter crashed. Dozens of others injured in the clashes between White Supremacists groups and those who came out to protest against them. President trumps initial reaction was criticized for failing to specifically name the supremacist groups, but overseas, mike pence weighing in on the ordeal we have no tolerance for hate and violence, White Supremacists, neo nazis or the, these dangerous groups have no place and we condemn them in the strongest possible terms people responding to the violence with antihate rallies if we dont speak out the world will not know we dont agree with what happened a lot have been speaking out and gathering at this memorial right there greeting this makeshift memorial in the wake of all of this tragedy, they have a federal investigation into the violence that broke out at this weekend rally, much, much more on all of this. You mentioned a lot of people are speaking out and reacting to how folks are speaking out. We have chad las dder and dom giordano radio host at 1210 wphta. M. It certainly was quite a weekend, and on top of that, like karen mentioned people are speak out. A lot of people at issue with what President Trump had to say when he did speak out about what happened in charlottesville. I want to play a little bit. We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides. Chad, what was your reaction because that last part on many sides had a lot of people seemingly upset i was terribly upset with that aspect of on both sides, on both sides because its no the on both sides. The individuals who were providing the counter narrative was defending our democracy. We also on this encouraging monday need to be mindful of marco rubio, john mccain, what Vice President pence just said and many others specifically the governor in denouncing this hatred in our country, its a virus the president sets the tone did he miss an opportunity here yes, he did, thomas. I would add several thoughts on that. One, this was set up for trump beautifully. These guys are losers, mainly men, over the course of time and thats why theyre talking about the White Supremacists, the torch carrying idiots, but by the same token i would call groups like this in philadelphia maybe most appropriate since there was a death caused by one of these neo nazis we believe allegedly then i wanted to talk about the police reaction, a, Philadelphia Police would have been in between these two groups, once the violence started, they would have swept the area. And i believe the cardinal principle police work, they wouldnt have allowed vehicles within a perimeter possibly the perimeter where this woman was killed. And that might be absolutely on point, dom but the challenge i have is we have two sides, in ferguson we had military presence, and charlottsville what we had was White Privilege on display. They showed up with torches, sticks guns and hate speech and for this monday, which is encouraging. Were getting ready to engage in this social assessment of whiteness, getting ready to look at this individual who ran the car into individuals. Es a terrorist. Deep under seeding roots of why he did this, evil is evil. I agree. He is a convicted of that and id execute him if possible under virginia law. But i would also add, chad, there are three groups here, there are these White Supremacists, neo nazis, protesters against hatred, then there are the antithese other groups who were throwing stuff back and attacking. I dont think people should allow people to carry baseball bats on either side or clubs or any of that stuff. Where were they . Why did they not intervene and clear everyboy out of there once this started when you say the three groups, is that what you think the president was referring to when he said on many sides . I think that was, you know, this is the fault of trump, alex, hes not a precise man or focused man. Thats a problem when youre president of the United States. I cant translate that, it was inappropriate to say it in that way. This could have been a classic trump movement. The word losers that hes used before is exactly the point that should go on to think and if he wanted to talk about the elements this is chad so artfully does on a deeper level, id be fine with that, but losers right out of the box would have been perfect for these neo nazi guy you talk about free speech here and right to gather, when we talk about these groups here, chad, these individuals, theyve been around quite some time. What makes this so different in this climate right now what makes it so different is the fact they feel as though because they have a president who at some point articulated some of these themes of, you know, seen aphobia, i like what he said dont blame him or barack obama. This is as old as empire, this is part of the fabric of our democracy, i was encouraged by a post i saw on had you evering ton post by one of my students at the university of penn, brook if he wouldman she said whites have to speak out against this, she called this a virus and it is, we know that the symptoms of our democracy is sick when were in denial about White Supremacy and privilege. Would you agree i dont know if id go as far as chad about white people in general supporting this or throwing White Privilege into this, i think that to me is a stretch and maybe another conversation. I would stop these guys. They wont have a right to engage in what they were engaging in almost immediately in this. Theres no free speech issue here once that starts and im still asking why we would be in fear of stopping an element like free speech is not theres violence going on in this matter let me be clear, what im saying saw encouraged by the fact that whites were speaking out. Its not the job of the oppressed to dismantle, and whites benefit from certain things but whites are disadvantaged by racism as well. When we see these antiprotesters this is not part of the fabric of our democracy, were better than this as americans. Do you consider this an act of terrorism it is. And i echo the same sentiments as marco rubio, john mccain and various others, when im talking about the White Privilege theyre able to assemble in this manner. When were talking about ferguson, we had tanks. People were speaking back in their minds of police brutality, White Privilege in virginia allows them to assemble in manner they did and we did not have the huge police presence. Wait a minute. Thats where chad and thomas differ, i just think the Charlottesville Police are inept and the leadership si would have had the full force, what stops this nonsense is the full force of numbers of police, state police and others, ready to move in and squash this stuff is not free speech and it has to be overwhelming to send a message were not going to take this, ferguson overreacted but this was pity full on part of the police, ill bet if we got any philadelphia cop, say they were a watching this and were appalled saying they were allowed to go on i wonder why they were so slow to react and so swift in ferguson and many other cases when were looking at this whole aspect of black lives matter that is started with eric garner were seeing peaceful protests, blacks whites and others, they do yet we see this occupyingterroristic. And the first time they showed up withch and the like we should have had something in place, i dont know if its one of at this and they should have done a better thing from tactical standpoint. Im wondering if black and brown people assemble i think well be learning da society where we like to dissec look, i hear from chads perspeivhim, that when you see this, you think double stan lesson to me. The lesson again is here, President Trump, for whateverig blew this opportunity, it was good opportunity, as a im about and thats not what these people are about. The other thing to be learned here again is that there is not an untraveled r you have a permt of whatever you do when this nonsense stops, the only thing that works is overwhelming force and i was appalled to see police essentially backing down at various points. Chad, your lesson my lesson is always a teachable moment where we can have a frank conversation on a nash level and have a dialogue around these for rums and we dont want to put one group against the other, there are people on all sides of color line willing to speak back to some of these behaviors the conversation will continue. Always good to see you my friends. Thank you. You also are thinking of the three people ended up losing their lives over this weekend, two state troopers as well as Heather Heyer. 7 17, closing arguments are expected in the ongoing taylor swift trial.
