>> reporter: different vantage point with some daylight. you can see right by brick hill elementary school further down you see the blinking yellow light. that's normally a busy intersection. and you can see they have the road closed off. and the house where the gunman is just couple of blocks beyond that. what we can tell you for you folks just watching us, at 7:00. no new information officially from delaware state prince since 4:00 but they confirmed what our great eyewitness who is are stuck in their homes, right doors away, from all of this, have been telling us, that starting just after 1:00 a.m., a series of blasts that shook them out every bed, rattled windows, set off car alarms left in the neighborhood. and then gunfire. then police talking on a bullhornment and we learn from police, the gunfire came from this guy been trying to get for the murder after state trooper now for 19 hours, and with us once again on my speaker phone is sue one block over, you told me nothing changed since about just past 43 but tell the viewers just watching us, what it was like overnight, what you heard, what you saw in the dark? >> well, i'm really, one of the other thing i could see from my point is a lot of the bright light coming from over on that street powerful light, but starting about 1:00 a.m., there was, like, explosions, and then like five explosions, in a row. like, you know, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom many then there would be like break, then gunfire, pow, pow, also hear the officers speaking on the bullhorn, i guess, to a suspect, i couldn't figure out what they were saying to him, but it seems like i would say between one and 4:00 in the morning, it seemed to be like around 20 of those explosions, and like you said, you know, they were so loud that, you know, car alarms were going off, and things like that. >> believe me, i still can't believe it is happening. >> delaware state police confirmed they blew out numerous windows with the explosion, and confirmed the gunman was trying to shoot them. sue your husband for our viewers just watching was with us in the parking lot. he went to work after never getting home from work yesterday. he's back at work after spending the night with this group in the parking lot over here where we are in the media. and your thoughts on all of this as we approach the 20th hour, just about what you've been going through, that probably sounds like a dream, but you haven't slept all night either. >> i haven't slept all night, but i do feel worse for my husband because he does have to go to work. he's going try to get a little bit of time off this afternoon but i know essex hugs dollars, he has bad back anyway. so sitting in his truck all night probably didn't do that any good. but's hard worker. so, you know, just the way everybody in this neighborhood is, great neighborhood, we work hard, we take care of our things, and this, you know, so shocking for any neighborhood, no matter where it is. just so shocking. >> for you viewers just watching, yesterday morning i tweeted that wilmington, a city just a bit smaller than camden, had 15 murders, yesterday morning, at this time, while camden, so far this year, only had three. and camden was no tore justly known as the most violent city in america. since that tweet in the last two days, new castle county, three more murders including 17 year old girl shot and killed in wilmington, last night. and, in addition to the troopers murder yesterday, so, the violence here in delaware, getting out of hand, according to the police and all the people we met coming down in the past month believe it or not. people just cannot believe that trooper was assassinated at high noon, the busiest time, in a local wawa, at lunch hour, and a busy parking lot. karen, thomas, one thing you will notice when you go to wawa, they have surveillance cameras everywhere, this entire incident on high quality, and it won't be opening today out of respect for what happened to this troop ever but you can bet they'll be seeing the sad site of seeing one of their fellow men in blew assassinated right there, at high noon. >> steve keeley, that tweet was eye owning. , steve talked about the wawa, meanwhile, the tributes, they're pouring in, at the wawa, where ballard was gun down. >> so let's get right to that, where jenny joyce right now with what's happening there. jenny? >> reporter: it is over, the quote of the day from a state troop is her, quote, it has been taken care every. we just watched two armored vehicles escort an ambulance, past the closest roadblock which has been moved up, way closer than where we were. so it is right beyond this. right down that hill. and to gave you a indication, about how safe things are now because it is over, the closest school open for business, sad site kids go for school, the american flag, they'll be asking why is our stars and stripes only halfway up the pole. so the teachers explaining how that's in honor of very brave state trooper who gave his life in the line every duty maybe save some kids lives, who knows there is guy so heavily armed and lived so close to these kids going to the schools, who knows what was possible going through this guide ' mine, if he'll assassinate trooper over what may be, could be, just a gun charge or a drug charge. serious charge, but no where near death penalty charge for killing a law enforcement officer in the line every duty. so, that is good news. and we got the first indications, told you half hour ago, all of the residents i've been hanging out with, all night, trooper came over hey un officially you'll be getting home very soon. the reason they're not going home right now, going in, an ambulance, either taking away somebody life or dead. doesn't sounds like a police officer, hopefully has been wounds in the there is maybe they got the gunman. we heard of shootouts, all night, until 4:00 a.m., and then state police confirmed that this guy was still shooting at police at 4:00 a.m. that's 16 hours after the trooper was shot and killed. so there is guy had a lot of ammo. >> this was his house, how he got to his house, we still don't know. and the state police and all of the other police agencies helping them were on bullhorn trying to talk him out peacefully. when that didn't work they tried to blast him out by blowing out all of his windows, they told us. so that's the scene here, and this scene is not real close to the scene of where the trooper was kill. that's where jenny joyce is. jenny at the wawa, notice, when you look around, close to all of the parking spots, where this happened, lots of state-of-the-art surveillance cameras there is whole incident caught on quality surveillance. so they'll have that as evidence, too, and it will be sad video to watch for the law enforcement people. >> well that's for sure, great reporting out there, steve. so we are about 20 minutes from his location here at the wawa. we've been watching people come out here, all morning long, paying their respects, and growing this memorial here for corporal ballard. people tell me that they didn't know him personally. but they were so touched, by the loss, such a significant lost for this community. yesterday mourners watched the body of fallen delaware state police corporal stephen ballard, was escorted from christianna hospital, by his brothers and sisters in blue. people stood by and watched, hats off, hands over their heavy hearts, after losing a 32 year old man dedicated to public service. people say corporate ballard, police say, was shot at a wawa store on pulaski highway in bear after stopping to check out a suspicious vehicle. people have been stopping by this wawa, throughout the morning, to pay their respects, and add to the memorial. >> i know a lot every police officers that a couple attend my church and i have a good friend, superintendent of the new castle county police department. and it is just that it is a human thing. it is not this or that. just what it is. and this is a tragedy. so, you know, i just want to take, and show my respect, for the family, then law enforcement, then humanity in itself. >> and that's pretty much the sentiment we've been hearing all morning long, just few minutes ago, woman stopped by, she wanted to contribute to the memorial. she says that it actually helps heal her own wounded heart. >> thank up, jenny joyce, along with steve keeley. >> the time 8:09. let's switch gears. other big story today, which of course we have 200,000 people coming to our house, the eyes of the nation, and right in the thick of it all, we've got mike and alex with all of the action. >> part of the action, the human drama of it all, they got shot of of the draftee at the table and the mom and the girlfriends, the family members, are all there. >> exactly. >> then i notice what they have on, what the guys are wearing. >> oh, yes, that's a big statement. because this is their night. they know the whole count have i looking at them, right?
