is hard to imagine not having heat when weather is just like this how cold it is. >> reporter: i know, people here just want life back to normal but they cannot because here's is what happening right here. crews have shown up just a little bit early because they are trying to repair this big problem here on boston street. so what happened? take a look a huge sing hold open up on sunday. the street, swallowed two cars , this is after one man here noticed in his basement was water. he thought it was a plumbing problem inside his home. its a much bigger problem. faulty sewer underground that led to the cracked water main. boston street caved in on itself. representative from the the city says winter months are when we see breaks all over the city, sometimes zero per day and these most controversial hearings hey be, right out of the gate today. the american people, and, new confirmation hearings today alabama senator jeff sessions for attorney general and general john kelly for secretary of home land security. the president-elect expressing confidence. >> i think they will all pass, i think every nomination will be at the highest levels. >> reporter: it is sessions who is likely to draw the most fire. he is well like by members of the both parties but his nomination to be a federal judge in 1986 was derailed amid allegation that is among other things he used racially charged language something never proven. that and sessions positions on issues like illegal immigration will lead to tough questions. democrats are trying to slow things town with other nominees arguing it innings filings and background checks are not yet complete for everyone. >> i think what they are hoping for is that in the paperwork they might find some kind of financial problem or conflict that would force some on withdraw or during hearing some than would mistake something. >> reporter: a hearing for one of the trump's picks betsy devos as secretary of education has been pushed back to next week. another controversial selection will not require senate confirmation, the president-elect hiring his son in law jared kushner to be a senior white house advisor. all of this as trump prepares for a press conference tomorrow and president obama pulls out all of the stops for a massive send off rally in chicago tonight. >> back here in capitol hill, there are signs that they are ramping up security, perhaps in anticipation of the hearings. as far as sessions is concern, one unusual thing to watch play out today, senator corry booker is going to be testifying against sessions. the on the one hand opposing parties. they have different rent points of the view. very unusual to see one senator testify against another because as it is a club like atmosphere around here. but that will happen around here today. >> jared kushner at 35, advisor to the president. it is jared's birthday. >> it is, what a birthday president. >> happy birthday. he will take a big pay cut. >> yes, maybe zero. >> that is for sure. >> we will see you tomorrow. 73:00. last night rematch of the college football national championship from last year was a thriller. it came down to the last second. clemson looking for revenge against alabama because alabama won last year in the big shoot-out 45-40. >> well, early on it looked like alabama would pull away but clemson just kept coming back there were three lead changes in the fourth quarter alone. it was clemson who got the ball last setting up i would say for an unforgettable moment but unforgettable second. >> this is not it. >> hold on. we will get to it. this is it. this is it. we win. >> down to the last second. >> yes. >> desean watson with that touchdown giving tigers a win and then second ever national champion ship alabama did not do a repeat. alabama won last year, clemson won this year. >> i was watching with some friends and a couple -- first, woman and then a guy. did you see that referee? you see this dude. he is ripped, man. his name is mike defee. >> and is there ed hulklee, this guy's name is mike defee. he is being compared to ed who has been jacked up for 25 yearsy wish we had video. the just to see his hulls rippling as he was like doing different type of things. >> first down. >> yeah. >> we have to give you an update on this because this is horrible happened yesterday morning in orlando. this his police motorcycle got in the wreck, and he died. >> so fox's david williams is at the apartment complex in orlando where police have been investigating all morning. they are still looking for the suspect. what is the very latest. >> reporter: well, that surge has been scaled back this morning but it is still intense here in orlando. yesterday in the same area, investigators were method ically going door to door, at this apartment complex and others right down the street. people said investigators came to their door searching for that suspect. they are looking at as you said for 41 year-old information leading to lloyd's arrest. we are live, in orlando florida this morning, i'm david williams, now back to you. unreal. >> i heard she was recently married. >> yes. >> 7:18. here's sue. >> yesterday was so cold. the official high temperature yesterday was only 23 degrees. normal is 40. seventeen below normal. we have got some sunshine and it is a gorgeous sunrise happening just around right now, officially, and we have promise of higher temperature then 23. we are at 19, in philadelphia, still pretty cold out there, six atlantic city. seven in millville and some weather heading our way, precipitation is starting out kind of frozen but by the time it gets here in philadelphia in the overnight hours it does look like it will be rain and only rain, it is just in our northern and western suburbs that we have to watch out and that is why we have a winter weather advisory starting at 6:00 p.m., going until 2:00 a.m. to areas highlighted here. so that is when it could be dicey, in the evening to overnight hours. for us 38 is our high. temperatures will continue to go up overnight. 50 degrees by tomorrow. 60 degrees, on thursday, yeah, 60 degrees on thursday. fifty's on friday. back to chilly temperatures over the weekend but at least to start. by martin luther king day on machine we have a chance for rain but it will be in the mid 40's. >> good morning, everybody. happy tuesday, getting up, and out, bundle up, it is still cold. we had a medical emergency on the market frankford line in the last couple minutes. there could be scattered delays left over. delays on the broad street subway still left over from an earlier accident. we have a live look the 422, bridges, overpasses, on and off ramps, if it looks wet it is black ice as we are around 19 degrees. still cold, maybe warmer then it was yesterday, but nothing has evaporated here, watch it for on and off ramps, right there you can see a glare, there is potential for black ice right there, headlights coming on the 42 freeway. we are in grid lock mode here morning rush hour, west on the schuykill expressway, crawling heading out to the conshohocken curve. accident westbound. we have normal delays on the eastbound side coming into downtown. an accident westbound on the pennsylvania turnpike at the fort washington interchange, alex, back over to you. if you are battling a cold this morning i know what you are thinking, cough i will grab cough syrup. no. there is now saying you may want to avoid cough syrup. it may not work at all. we will explain why, and do you yahoo? well, if you do it won't be for long, big changes, including the name, there is a change of the yahoo that i am, wait until you hear what it is call next. this. is. everything. honey bunches of oats. it's all of this, this, this, and this. it's the mother of all cereals. it's that, and that, and all of that. it's the most cerealriffic cereal. in all of history. yeah, it's that good. honey bunches of oats. this. is. everything. didn't your mother ever tell to you talk with your mouthful. >> i didn't realize we were coming back so quickly. >> sure. >> anyway... >> you have area hugh account, don't you. >> um-hmm. >> alexa, what is yahoo's new name. >> i was than the able to understand the question. >> well, lauren, i bet lauren knows because this is new. the it is not official yet, is it lauren. >> it is not official. >> but you remember yahoo in its hey day, yahoo, those crazy commercials. >> um-hmm. >> it was an iconic brand and now they are this is process of selling themselves. their core business, to verizon for just shy of $5 billion. the deal has not gone through just yet. if it does, yahoo will no longer be yahoo, but, are you ready to are this one. >> it is altaba. altaba, what, i know, terrible this is what it means. the it is a combination of alternative anal bob as in the chinese e commerce giant, the amazon of china. so altaba. why are they calling it that? essentially what would be less of yahoo is 15 percent stage inial. >> people with e-mail addresses, is that at altaba .com or will they stay. >> i hope not, to, yahoo to the come. >> i rarely use my yahoo account any shore. >> my parent still do. >> i still have aol. >> my first e-mail address, everybody has it. i, you know, i feel obligated to use it. >> yes, i feel you on that one >> my old e-mail address that i have, it is not the server but the name. >> what is it. >> g mail, what is it. >> it is hollywood star. >> i know. >> i was going to say something like. >> i know, horrible. >> pinky barbie 530. >> hollywood star. >> yes. >> hollywood star is much better. >> hey, hollywood. >> now my question is will they put same yahoo tune on al taba. >> they should. >> they should. >> make it catchy. >> i believe it will be the end of the company. >> do you think so. >> it will kill the company. >> yes. >> it hasn't been doing well. >> i know, they got in so much trouble, hacking and all of the information released. >> yes. >> the carries a chevy bolt, right. >> the electric car. do you see them on the road. cute little cars. they have not been, you know, pushed in the green. the north american car of the year. last year it went to honda and civic. this year general motors and its chevy bolt. after the tax credits this carries about $30,000. so for comparable cars it gets about double the mileage of a single charge. >> an american car. >> all right, good. >> the bolt. >> it is cute. >> that is the trend, american everything these days. >> hey, woman, lauren. >> woman. >> yes, hear me roar. >> i like those earrings and the other thing is, have you been using q tips on your baby 's ears. >> oh, no why are you asking? i always think about it. i see ear wax and try to get it with a tissue. >> why. >> you are not supposed to be using q tips to clean out your ears. i did it just yesterday. i like going in there. >> i do it every day. >> ripping it out. >> don't do it any shore. >> do you ever go to the ear doctor and they take out wax for you, years of wax, it is like a rock. that was in my ear, disgusting >> i hear about that happening >> i got that one time, they pour water in and then you hear a lot better, a big chunk of wax comes out. >> yes. you eat it. >> you eat it? >> no,. >> that is not appetizing. >> apparently these q tips you are not supposed to use them and doctor mike will talk about that. >> what does wax taste like. >> chicken, yeah. >> so we will talk about cleaning out your ears, how you are supposed to do it. don't use q tips anymore. >> chicken tastes like everything apparently. >> it does, yeah. no precipitation at the moment but it is on the the way. the don't expect it until after sunset. we have bus stop buddy here and he is still unrecognizably bundled up. do you see sunglasses. he is dealing with single digit, teens. warm spot believe it or not 21 in wilmington delaware. things will get snowy sooner then we thought but this will dry out as we get close. very dry air mass this place. our winter weather advisory start at 6:00 o'clock tonight. tar north and west, where travel could be very slick, later on today, and tonight. but it is 19 degrees here. feels like 12. keep that in mind walking out the door. we are shivering to start but at least later on with that whooping high of 38 degrees, it the won't be as frigid as it was yesterday. in case you hadn't heard yesterday's high temperature was 23 degrees. so that was the high. we have been in the 20's all weekend long so things are starting to be on the upside bob kelly. >> right direction. good morning everybody. 7:32. couple problems here, here's a live look at bennie. in problems coming into downtown philadelphia on the ben franklin but anything that is even looks remotely wet is most likely laying there this is form of the black ice that front step, sidewalk, on and off ramps right here. do you see glare of the headlights, off of the ramps here. we are moving along and the heat from the engines is keeping that road wet, passable, but once we get into the end of the rush hour or that ramp isn't used for a half an hour or so we will have that black ice developing ninety-five southbound jammo, jumbo double jelly doughnut delay from cottman into downtown. accident on the freeway north bound 42, heading in toward black horse pike. that is causing delays coming in toward philadelphia. i got word that they shut town cleveland's hopkins international airport because of snow and ice. so, if you are attempting to head to philadelphia international maybe check with your airline and make sure your flight isn't connecting through cleveland, or that will have a domino delay here in philadelphia mike and alex, back to you. 7:33. after ten years in state prison for killing his wife, ellen, former university of pennsylvania professor rafael robb is a freeman as of sunday it was december between the second, 2006, just three days before christmas, ellen robb was wrapping presents in the kitchen of her montgomery county home, when she was bludgeoned to death by her husband, rafael robb pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to five to ten years, ultimately serving the maximum sentence. since then ellen's family has for the to raise awareness about domestic violence and started a foundation in her honor. as for rafael robb, a hearing will be held this summer regarding the assets that he claims to have, and the millions owed to the family from the civil suit. he also still owns half of the lower merion home where ellen was killed. but we don't yet know where he will be living. ellen's brother is back here with us again. gary, good to see you. >> nice to see you. thank you. >> i think last time you were in the studio was five years ago when there was a parole hearing. he was going to get out after just five years and he got that stopped. >> that is right, that is right. it was through the outcry from the community, law enforcement and grace from the media that for first time in history of pennsylvania we were able to rescind a parole and right fully so he served the maximum ten years which seems ridiculous that it is ten years. he should be in jail the rest of his life, that is my opinion. when you see him leave after ten years on sunday, how toss that make you feel. >> it is a tough, tough time for our family, for the community, and all victims of domestic violence and abuse. my sister is serving a life sentence in the grave and here he is free after an insanely light, pleaded manslaughter sentence of five to ten years. >> in the story we just introducing this, we said that he owned 50 percent of the house, is there any word he might now that he is out return back to the house. >> we're hopeful not, not only for the family's memory but also for the community. it is a huge outcry. they don't want that to occur. we are using our legal team to hopefully negotiate that. >> get that blocked. >> yes. >> has anybody lived in the house since. >> it has been vacant. >> yes, the house still has remnants of the hose brutal killing in the history of montgomery county in over a half century. >> have you been back? it must be so difficult. >> it is, we were there yesterday holding a vigil. just being at the site, same site that i drove up to and saw the police, tape, quarantining off and see them put her body in the ambulance, it is tough. >> still ten years later. >> absolutely. >> you live it every day. >> every day. >> the family lives it every day. but you said, his release is in the the last chapter in this tragedy? why did you say that. >> there is a couple of reasons. one is that we have work to to we have legal work to do on completing the civil suit, the jury of his peers gave a record verdict about the premeditated nature of his crime. and then the other issue is there is ongoing efforts. we truly support the d.a. kevin steel in montgomery county who is looking at at the lies robb made just recently to the court. it is not last chapter, for sure. >> he worked for the university. would he have money in a pension plan or something like that. >> he has retirement assets. so as part of the civil settlement all of the turned go to his daughter, that is our goal, efforts toe hans pate her, and her goal, to get after those retirement assets. >> she's 22 now. how is she dealing with this knowing he is out. >> it has been a hard week. she has no desire for contact. as you can well imagine. >> so she would have been 12. >> she was 12 when it happen. so there is such a tragic incident that we have focused as a family on turning that tragedy into a triumph for others and that is why we created our foundation. >> every great reason. tell us about the foundation and how it has been going. >> it is phenomenal. the most important thing is our goal, it is to create awareness, inspiration for victims of domestic violence and abuse. my sister in the last few months of her life had finally decided to step forward and move out of the abusive relationship, and when she did that her skies opened up, she became her old self. i was picking her up to leave the house. >> to leave the house to get away from this guy. >> that is when he killed her. >> that is a real dangerous time for victims of abuse. one of the great things we have done is we have passed a law with the support of so many in the community but most noteably representative, former representative mike verb already benefited over 5,000 families who get to meet with the parole board and have their own say and make sure their on fair footing with criminals. >> why the name every great reason. >> nice of to you ask. >> in honor of ellen gregory robb and our perspective is every woman has every great reason to begin a life and to end it their way. >> beautiful name. >> thank you. >> welshing hang this there. >> keep us informed. >> stay motivated with this foundation. >> and anything we can do to help. >> you have been a terrific help and we appreciate all of the support. >> on a side note you might be wondering where this robb will go apparently there is a synagogue over near pittsburgh that provides a service for people who have no where to go >> yes, our understanding they have reached out to him and extended him a place to live and potentially do some work, i'm not the sure. >> people want to be involved with every great reason how can they assign you guys and get more information. >> just through the web site. we're always looking for volunteers and support and resources to take our mission and deliver it to other organizations, which are the backbone, local organizations, in the fight to end domestic violence. >> this will be on our web site fox 29.com. >> thank you so much. >> good to see you very good to see you again. >> hang in there man. >> great to see you. >> quick break we will be right back. apparently, people think i'm too perky. so now i'm not being perky, telling you that drivers that switch to progressive save an average of $548! whoo! i mean, whoo. 7:43. live lot at westbound schuylkill, just west of 476 causing a delay. it will take for your tires, to clip that black ice, on our major roadway. we have seen accidents like that. northbound on the freeway an accident at black horse pike, head up, heading to the airport, okay here in philadelphia but they have shut down cleveland international because of snow and ice. check with the airline if your plan or flight happens to becoming through cleveland, that will cause domino delay here in town. looking good on the bennie up and over in philadelphia. pennsy turnpike an accident westbound at fort washington interchange and remember that toll increase that kick in on sunday we have seen big delays at all toll plaza in the cash lanes, as toll accounts are getting used to the new amount , they need to have ready, when they exit turnpike warm up on the way, sueby has it the in 152nd. you have heard things will be getting better but these are your current temperatures if you have in the walk out the door yet n millville it is only 7 degrees. atlantic city international it is six. same for wright town. whooping 19 in philadelphia. twenty's in wilmington. is there milder air on the the way, along with precipitation, and it will start out, as frozen precipitation thort and west of the city, and i have not seen anything in the the area just yet. we don't have winter weather advisory until later in the day. looking at temperatures and precipitation, by eight or 9:00 o'clock tonight at latest it gets started. by then we are starting to inch above treeing, but the ground is still very cold. keep that in mind. for us by the time everything gets here we will be close to 40 degrees. that happens in the overnight hours. rain sticks around until five or 6:00 o'clock in the morning by the time daylight dawns it should be gone. we will end up with a decent afternoon, on wednesday. so, here is the temperature. thirty-eight today. fifty tomorrow. sixty on thursday. by friday, it is 52 degrees. and then it gets colder as we start holiday weekend. still iffy about this precipitation but is there our focus, alex and mike, it is 60 degrees on thursday. we are all coming to your party, mike jerrick. >> hey sue can i ask you a personal question. >> of course. >> how do you clean ear wax out of your ears. >> well, i was just talking to there mike about hydrogen peroxide, you put it in there and it goes. >> with the q tip. >> okay. >> there is people that still use q tips and we will tell you why it may not be the best eye tea. also, if your battling a cold this morning avoid cough syrup even if you are coughing , why doctors say it may not work at all. un-stop right there! i'm about to pop a cap of "mmm fresh" in that washer with unstopables in-wash scent boosters by downy. and if you want, pour a little more, because this scent lasts for 12 weeks, which is longer than any relationship i've ever been in. right, freshness for weeks! unstopables by downy. for a fresh too feisty to quit. all right. there is a couple things we're doing that we shouldn't be doing. one is using q tips in our ear and believing that cough syrup actually helps to you stop coughing. >> doctor mike, what will we start with. ten years in state prison for killing his wife, ellen, former university of pennsylvania professor rafael robb is a freeman as of sunday it was december between the second, 2006, just three days before christmas, ellen robb was wrapping presents in the kitchen of her montgomery county home, when she was bludgeoned to death by her husband, rafael robb pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to five to ten years, ultimately serving the maximum sentence. since then ellen's family has for the to raise awareness about domestic violence and started a foundation in her honor. as for rafael robb, a hearing will be held this summer regarding the assets that he claims to have, and the millions owed to the family from the civil suit. he also still owns half of the lower merion home where ellen was killed. but we don't yet know where he will be living. ellen's brother is back here with us again. gary, good to see you. >> nice to see you. thank you. >> i think last time you suit, the jury of his peers gave a record verdict about the premeditated nature of his crime. and then the other issue is there is ongoing efforts. we truly support the d.a. kevin steel in montgomery county who is looking at at the lies robb made just recently to the court. it is not last chapter, for sure. >> he worked for the university. would he have money in a pension plan or something like when it happen. so there is such a tragic incident that we have focused as a family on turning that tragedy into a triumph for others and that is why we created our foundation. >> every great reason. tell us about the foundation and how it has been going. >> it is phenomenal. the most important thing is our goal, it is to create awareness, inspiration for victims of domestic violence and abuse. my sister in the last few months of her life had finally decided to step forward and move out of the abusive relationship, and when she did that her skies opened up, she became her old self. i was picking her up to leave the house. >> to leave the house to get away from this guy. >> that is when he killed her. >> that is a real dangerous time for victims of abuse. one of the great things we have done is we have passed a law with the support of so many in the community but most noteably representative, former representative mike verb already benefited over 5,000 families who get to meet with the parole board and have their own say and make sure their on fair footing with criminals. >> why the name every great reason. >> nice of to you ask. >> in honor of ellen gregory robb and our there is a synagogue over near pittsburgh that provides a service for people who have no where to go >> yes, our understanding they have reached out to him and extended him a place to live and potentially do some work, i'm not the sure. >> people want to be involved with every great reason how can they assign you guys and get more information. >> just through the web site. we're always
