>> you'll be familiar with this very street, very block across the street from the awful innings motion, couple every summers ago. and this was an old cup nel their 60s man woman, who apparently had no smoke alarms, and that's why they didn't survive this fire, and that's why the fire department didn't have a chance to save them. a police officer happened to be the first on the scene here. several 191 calls, and he tried his best to save them. he got smoke had his lungs burns on his hands he couldn't even go into the house. here is executive chief of the philadelphia fire department. 1:24, received multible 911 calls for a fire at this address. upon arrival the got here in three minutes, found heavy fire from the first floor of the dwelling. we also understood that prior to our arrival, one police officer attempt topped make a rescue here, that police officer sustained minor injuries some burns transported by co-workers, to the hospital, with burns to his hands. firefighters arrived on location made val gent effort, during the process of extinguishing the fire and doing a search there were two occupants to the dwelling found in the home. at this time we have two confirmed fire deaths here at this location. we do know it is one male and one female both appear to be no their 60s. we did not finds any indication there were smoke alarms in the home. so the message is working smoke alarms for the early notification and help them get out, you know, the weather did not play a part, firefighters like i say got here in about three minutes made valiant efforts. two confirmed fire deaths. >> see shah makes three killed in january in this new year already. and you'll hear the fire commissioner tell you that he wants a year where they have zero. all time low couple of years nag 2013 with 24, but that's 24 too many to this brave fire department here. who doesn't like losing anybody. they didn't even have a chance. these people as you heard there were dead. they didn't even know anybody was even in this house gutted so bad, when the fire was completely out. how little opportunity anybody had to do anything out here. mike as you recall, from that daly street explosion here, would you think people that many would see that right out their front door and survive that would at least have carbon monoxide and natural gas detectors because you would learn that less from from something just 30 feet across the street, and that's why they'll come out here and hand out free smoke detectors who everybody doesn't have either a battery in a working smoke detector, doesn't have it hard wired. another reminder everybody get a smoke detector, make sure if you have them, they're working and up-to-date. those things expire, as well. >> and the fire department so willing to help with you that, too. steve, as he mentioned, 400 block every daly street, i go daly street, i know that area of south philadelphia, because it was, i think in july, of 2013, eight people were sent to the hospital when a house exploded as i remember, and then collapsed on itself. now, the house was just right across the street like steve said from where this fire took place. so it has been a rough year and a half for the 400 block every daly street in south philadelphia. >> 6:07. one man dead following deadly crash just before 1:00 police called to investigate a crash at home on american street. police would soon learn that two men in that van will been shot. surviving shooting victim in critical condition. have live report at 6:30. >> how about this? >> that's right. this is the mini-van, smashed into the house over there but we'll also show you just towed from the scene right mine me there. police calling this an unusual case. they were called out here for the report after car into a house, then an hour or so later they found out two people had been shot, one person killed, so taking a look at our video, a smashed up 2001 mini-van up against the edge after home on north american and clarkson street police say five people were inside the home at the time. there is structural damage to the house. but no one was hurt. police say it was about 12:45 this morning, when they were called out to the scene, and according to witnesses there were five people inside the van, when it crashed, three took off running and there was also a 20 year old man who was conscious. he got out of the car. he was talking to police about the accident. he was bleeding. but he never mentioned that he was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head. he also never mentioned that he had a friend in the car who was shot dead. >> we did not know until he arrived at the hospital, and the front seat passenger who he was with was pronounced dead it, wasn't until then, about 20, 25 minute later that we realized that both of them had been shot in the head. very unusual. >> so he was here, he was just walking and talking to police, made no mention that he was shot? maybe just come down the new jersey side, and come over the walt whitman bridge, and you can connect into the stadium area. that is going to be your best bet. whether they are going to the flyers game or not, you know to try to get around that stretch of 95. mike alex, back to you. >> you got it, my man. 50:00, this morning hearing from the police officers, who took down a robbery suspect as the crime was in progress. yes, we told but it yesterday i don't know yes, sir that is important, but on monday morning officers anthony sherman and paul austin were staking out an area around dunkin' donuts in the 6200 block of front street. that area had been plagued with a slew of armed robberies. so we're checking it out. that's when they saw mask man walk into the donut shop. they say that's when their training kicked in. >> walk right up to the door. look in, see there were no patrons in there. turned back around, pulled the mask down. >> i went up, out behind him put the gun so, told them, please, get down on the grounds. >> disarmed them, cuffed them up. >> most of all of our jobs that we have had you know, after the fact in catching the guy. this is the first one where it was going in and getting them. >> well, you have seen the surveillance tapes. so the gun used in the robbery turned out to be a bb gun cents suspect named russell mason watts. he faces a laundry list of charges, there it is, now watch. comes right up behind him. just like he said he did. what, he have a gun to his head right there? >> you'll be familiar with this very street, very block across the street from the awful innings motion, couple every summers ago. and this was an old cup nel their 60s man woman, who apparently had no smoke alarms, and that's why they didn't survive this fire, and that's why the fire department didn't have a chance to save them. a police officer happened to be the first on the scene here. several 191 calls, and he tried his best to save them. he got smoke had his lungs burns on his hands he couldn't even go into the house. here is executive chief of the philadelphia fire department. 1:24, received multible 911 calls for a fire at this address. upon arrival the got here in three minutes, found heavy fire from the first floor of the dwelling. we also understood that prior to our arrival, one police officer attempt topped make a rescue here, that police officer sustained minor injuries some burns transported by co-workers, to the hospital, with burns to his hands. firefighters arrived on location made val gent effort, during the process of extinguishing the fire and doing a search there were two occupants to the dwelling found in the home. at this time we have two confirmed fire deaths here at this location. we do know it is one male and one female both appear to be no their 60s. we did not finds any indication there were smoke alarms in the home. so the message is working smoke alarms for the early notification and help them get out, you know, the weather did not play a part, firefighters like i say got here in about three minutes made valiant efforts. two confirmed fire deaths. >> see shah makes three killed in january in this new year already. and you'll hear the fire commissioner tell you that he wants a year where they have zero. all time low couple of years nag 2013 with 24, but that's 24 too many to this brave fire department here. who doesn't like losing anybody. they didn't even have a chance. these people as you heard there were dead. they didn't even know anybody was even in this house gutted so bad, when the fire was completely out. how little opportunity anybody had to do anything out here. mike as you recall, from that daly street explosion here, would you think people that many would see that right out their front door and survive that would at least have carbon monoxide and natural gas detectors because you would learn that less from from something just 30 feet across the street, and that's why they'll come out here and hand out free smoke detectors who everybody doesn't have either a battery in a working smoke detector, doesn't have it hard wired. another reminder everybody get a smoke detector, make sure if you have them, they're working and up-to-date. those things expire, as well. >> and the fire department so willing to help with you that, too. steve, as he mentioned, 400 block every daly street, i go daly street, i know that area of south philadelphia, because it was, i think in july, of 2013, eight people were sent to the hospital when a house exploded as i remember, and then collapsed on itself. now, the house was just right across the street like steve said from where this fire took place. so it has been a rough year and a half for the 400 block every daly street in south philadelphia. >> 6:07. one man dead following deadly crash just before 1:00 police called to investigate a crash at home on american street. police would soon learn that two men in that van will been shot. surviving shooting victim in critical condition. have live report at 6:30. >> how about this? >> definitely. >> for sure. my goodness. >> 6:33. >> we are following breaking news out of south philadelphia. a deadly row home fire on daly street which may sounds familiar to you. >> 400 block every daly street. we'll tell but that in a second. there is steve. >> five hours old, you can see with daylight coming up how bad this fire was at this middle of the block rowhouse, both floors completely gutted. and a couple in their 60s living here, you can see they open door next-door, the neighbors got out okay. they've been out looking for their cat. see two police officers just guarding the scene here, not suspicious at all but the real cause really, not having any early warning because cliff hard gilliam with the fire department tells us no smoke detectors. upon arrivals, about three minute, found heavy fire, from the first floor of the dwelling. we also understood that prior to our arrival, one police officer attempted to make rescue here, that police officer sustained minor injuries, some burns he was transported by co-workers, at the hospital. burns to his hand. firefighters, arrive at location made valient effort, they got in, extinguished the fire during the process of extinguishing the fire and conducting search two occupants to the dwelling found in the home. so at this time we do have two confirmed fire deaths here at this location one male, one female both appear to be in their 60s, at this time we did not find indication there were any smoke alarms in the home, so, you know, the message is working smoke alarms for the early notification, help them get out, you know, the weather did not play a part, firefighters got in about three minutes and made a veil yen effort, un for the lip we do at this time have two confirmed fire deaths. >> how often do we these stories, you never think it will happen to you but we hear the fire department telling every time to make sure, if they have smoke detectors, that they are working, make sure the batteries have the testing button on there. if you don't have any don't feel embarrased if you can't afford them. call the fire department. and they'll get them to you. or you can pick them up. or asking somebody to get one to you for free. you can't -- you don't get anything for flea any more in this world. if you can get something for free, tan can save your life and stop something like this from happening that is the best deal in the world. although, that police officer very brave, won't want to hear this, did he a great job trying to do anything to get into the house and try to get to the people. he didn't know where they were. you can see burns on his hands trying to get them out of there, but he won't feel good about there is because he didn't -- but he did everything co-burning his skin. so sad story again here in south philly. mike alec, three people dead already in this new year. seventy-nine year old gentleman, jennifer joyce reported on just january 8th. so awful start to 2015. i agree with you, steve, just thinking about the police officer pulls up before the fire department gets there apparently, and attempts to go into a burning house. wow, that's bravery right there. >> can't stress enough how important it is to have a smoke detector. >> like you said, they're free, you can stop by a firehouse, they'll give them to you. >> so whether we heard about this this morning if you are just getting up, 400 block every daily does that sounds familiar, july of 2013, year and a half ago, a house exploded down there. we were on for hours covering this thing almost all day. them the row home collapsed. eight people taken to the hospital. it is right across the street from where fire this happened happened. >> 6:37. breaking news in the fairmount section this morning police are investigating the robbery of this bar. it happened shortly after 12:30 this morning, called the urban saloon bar, 2100 block of fairmount avenue. police say the suspect made off with nearly thousand dollars in cash. >> very popular place right across the street, cat err corny from the eastern state penetentary thereon fairmount. one man dead after a double shooting this is an odd case. because the car crashed in olney section of the city, flight. >> and two men shot, one died. the other shot in the head was walking around and talking jennifer joyce? >> that's right. this is the mini-van, smashed into the house over there but we'll also show you just towed from the scene right mine me there. police calling this an unusual case. they were called out here for the report after car into a house, then an hour or so later they found out two people had been shot, one person killed, so taking a look at our video, a smashed up 2001 mini-van up against the edge after home on north american and clarkson street police say five people were inside the home at the time. there is structural damage to the house. but no one was hurt. police say it was about 12:45 this morning, when they were called out to the scene, and according to witnesses there were five people inside the van, when it crashed, three took off running and there was also a 20 year old man who was conscious. he got out of the car. he was talking to police about the accident. he was bleeding. but he never mentioned that he was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head. he also never mentioned that he had a friend in the car who was shot dead. >> we did not know until he arrived at the hospital, and the front seat passenger who he was with was pronounced dead it, wasn't until then, about 20, 25 minute later that we realized that both of them had been shot in the head. very unusual. >> so he was here, he was just walking and talking to police, made no mention that he was shot? maybe just come down the new jersey side, and come over the walt whitman bridge, and you can connect into the stadium area. that is going to be your best bet. whether they are going to the flyers game or not, you know to try to get around that stretch of 95. mike alex, back to you. >> you got it, my man. 50:00, this morning hearing from the police officers, who took down a robbery suspect as the crime was in progress. yes, we told but it yesterday i don't know yes, sir that is important, but on monday morning officers anthony sherman and paul austin were staking out an area around dunkin' donuts in the 6200 block of front street. that area had been plagued with a slew of armed robberies. so we're checking it out. that's when they saw mask man walk into the donut shop. they say that's when their training kicked in. >> walk right up to the door. look in, see there were no patrons in there. turned back around, pulled the mask down. >> i went up, out behind him put the gun so, told them, please, get down on the grounds. >> disarmed them, cuffed them up. >> most of all of our jobs that we have had you know, after the fact in catching the guy. this is the first one where it was going in and getting them. >> well, you have seen the surveillance tapes. so the gun used in the robbery turned out to be a bb gun cents suspect named russell mason watts. he faces a laundry list of charges, there it is, now watch. comes right up behind him. just like he said he did. what, he have a gun to his head right there? there go. >> down he goes. >> a lot of charges. >> 6:51. a woman was arrested for shoplifting, what she did next got her into a lot more trouble. how she tried to get away. >> in handcuffed? >> yes, all the time in handicuffs. >> oh, i saw a commercial that said you can save $500 by switching to progressive. that was me, mom.
