Cheese kind of day. You mentioned people, and sue, we will get to that to send in their pictures. You have been doing that using our fox 29 snow. It is from paul. He has been showing us the scenes from his neck of the wood. 70 degrees. Days ago we were 70s and now we are dealing with this cars are covered. You will have a lot of snow and ice, as well. Then this one from heather , thanks very much. We appreciate it when you show us what is happening where you live. Dont forget to use the fox 29 snow and reminder all school closings, latest information on the bottom of your screen. We have over 300 school closings, so this will be one school out there. Yes, Fitzgerald Michael school is opened today. No, no way. Lets check the forecast, sue. We will say this storm its playing out the way we said it would. Tricky area is right here in philadelphia in between snow and rain to the south. We will go through it all for you, first with the number of the day. It is very rare we do this but one out of 10 and your pal, he doesnt have school today but we have, snow and we do have wind and we have some freezing rain, all of it out there in the philadelphia area this morning. This is a look at radar, blue, right that is all snow and pink in between which is freezing rain and sleet and to the south of us, it is rain and very we have any southern delaware. Clash between warmer air and the cooler air, to the north. We will see who wins. We are in the middle of all that. We have got blizzard warning continuing in the northern suburbs of the philadelphia, winter storm warning continuing in our area, Winter Weather advisory has been extended, from kent county, delaware into Cumberland County in new jersey in longer under a winter storm warning but we have high wind warning for Cape May County and suspects, in delaware. So, temperatures this is what makes it so tricky, we are a degree above freezing in philadelphia and wilmington delaware. Twentys to the north. It is cold enough to stay snowing there and then to the south, look at wildwood 45 degrees. It is only rain. Expect that significant snow expect high wind every where but along the coast and that means possibility of power outages, because we have sleet and we are getting that heavy wet snow that could knock down trees and power lines and coastal flooding, the height of the storm between roughly eight to 11 00 a. M. We have mostly rain to the south of us, six to 10 inches is our still number for philadelphia area we may be change ago this fit stays, sleety out there, and we will continue to of course watch the situation but high amount of accumulation to the north of us. It looks like this is all out for evening drive we will have a high of 36 degrees, it stays pretty cold out there. So, it is, the variety pack, as we said earlier of precipitation, and out in the the city, and corner of the fourth and market is Scott Williams. Every time we talk to you it changes a little bit. What is going on now. Visibility continues to drop here in olde city they are talking about that snow and sleet mixture that has been going on for about a hour and a half or so. Take a look at the sidewalk here at fourth and market. We have about an inch or two of snow that has accumulated but on top of that snow now we are getting that sleet accumulation. Once again take a look at Market Street here. It is a slushy, ice mess, so kind of icy, dicey, not a whole lot of folks have been out because of that snow emergency, so, im going to have my photographer pan over here and you can see that snow emergency route. So once again, vehicles that are parked in snow emergency routes will be towed, so remember, that they are parking spots available, for about five dollars or so in the garages around the city to park in. And also we want to you submit your pictures, what are you seeing, use that we have been talking about , fox 29 snow and show us what is happening where you live, of course, be safe but we want to see your pictures and video. So bob not a whole lot of people on the roadways here, along fourth and market, what are you keeping tabs on across the entire area, how are the road looking and are you seeing any trouble spots right now, cross the area. No trouble spots but you are like a little kid in the snow out there, with your little , writing in the snow. Good morning everybody. 5 05. Lets check jam cams. Heres a live look at business route 30 in Chester County still snow covered and notice camera rocking. We have wind moving in now. That will bring us some snowdrifts throughout the day but it all depend upon where we are waking up and joining us this morning. Heres a live look south jersey where road are wet, as sue showed thaws fine line, the changeover to rain, to sleet, and leaving the roadways wet here in south jersey down in delaware, the same scenario right off of route four in delaware, again, just wet but it is that slush, that is at all intersections. It started out as snow, changed over started as snow, changed over to rain but it is that heavy slush which also can be slippery. Send us your snow picks this one from our buddy from north philadelphia. He has play ground, snow on the slide, kid will be out there later on of course in the backyard powe your pictures to facebook, twitter, instagram and use that fox 29 snow. Earlier this morning we had an accident that pulled down power lines on 322 at route 55 as scott mentioned a snow emergency here in philadelphia no parking on the snow emergency routes. Remember new folks to the city especially downtown here they may not ab wear of that or may not be aware that the street, youre parked on is snow emergency as red and white signs for example frankford avenue, torresdale avenue, sections of northeast philadelphia have snow emergency routes. Ppa is not enforcing meters today, five dollars parking opportunity at select garages downtown. If you are using mass transit, saturday schedule on regional rails. Cynwyd no service. Acela, patco, new Jersey Transit, dart bus all running on a modified schedule. No buses for new Jersey Transit but if you really must head out today way to get there is market frankford and broad street subway trains are running around the clock, every 20 minutes. Karen and thomas, back to you. Those kid cant wait to get on their sled, bob, thank so much. We are getting snow out there in Chester County, Montgomery County lets head up to the Lehigh Valley where they will get higher totals. Sixteen to 24, sue mentioned, higher in certain sections. Steve keeley is there in bethlehem this morning, steve. Reporter when i hear 24 inches of snowy like to say 2 feet. That gives you a sense of how deep it is expect to get. We were wondering why that plow truck was going so slow, but maybe coming in for coffee but see how they say dont pass plow trucks, these are regular vehicles, is there a pickup truck, and there is second pickup truck but we have got a guy getting gas here with an suv, im so surprise that had people are driving in this. Ill give them benefit of the doubt they are fire fighters, nurses, emts and people that have to be out or getting to a plow truck depot, but i just, im very surprised that were seeing as many people as we are. We already got we are getting near 5 inches of snow and i want to give you a shot of the black glove and there is nothing but snowflakes falling just yet but these are small little pieces of snowy would get, maybe i dont think it is sleet because it is not bouncing off me. We are not getting big snowflakes and it has accumulated. We are coming up on half foot. Here comes plow trains and they are taking it easy but you can see this is plowable snow already in the Lehigh Valley. They need a few trucks just to get it off. When you get 2 feet of snow the question remains where do you put it all . That is problem that lingers long after snow stops falling. After the storm stops they will still have lots of problems on the road is here. Even if it does start melting you get melting and refreezing because we have piles of snow on the side of every road and highway that eventually will melt in the sun every day and then refreeze, and then we will get slick road for days and days because it takes a long time for 2 feet of snow to melt. We have a good old fashion farm shovel to give you a sense of what kind of snow this is, this is not heavier snow but again take it easy if you are out there but look at this sheet of ice underneath this. That is the hard part when you get through to the snow and you walk, then hit this stuff and then go flying. We are talking about the shore but heres the problem we are 76 days. Warm thought. Seventysix days from memorial day. Not that everybody gets on the beach on memorial day but i know you make your way down there if we get hit with the bad noreaster those beaches will take another batterng and then you have less time to get it together before the summer tourism season. You can bet that the Tourism Industry along jersey shore, number one industry in new jersey, will be all stressed out over this storm because it is coming so late and so close to the summer season. As we talk about the variety boxes of cereals, bob kelly, sue serio and i know you two guys also may want to remember this do you remember how you could make the box in the bowl , if you didnt have a bowl, you could cut the box apart and if you were smart as a little kid and cut the little wax paper and make their bowl for cereals and hold the milk do you remember that. That was best part you make a little i direction and top and bottom and fold open flaps something to peel back down too. Now we have those once they make it simple. Absolutely. Thank you. My favorite was corn pops, thanks for taking us down memory lane. I also got stuck with the plane little. Rice crispies instead of apple jacks. Just the red flakes, corn flakes kind of kid. Whatever you are making for breakfast we joke around you are making french toast because you have milk, eggs and bread. Send us pictures. Using our fox 29 snow. Many people staying in. City add veiing we have a know emergency. So snow is already out there, moving them in the lots f they are on the route now it is time five there 11. Get out there. The city will do it for you. They will toe to you another location, and so that is one of the big concerns. Of course, some of the snow routes to mention here sixth street to market, ben franklin parkway to 16th street, University Avenue to 34th street and bob, he will update you throughout the morning. All snow emergency information in those routes can be found on our web site as well, fox 29. Com. Little mention here the Philadelphia Police department reminding residents that the no save rule news effect. You have a history of saving parking space west cones or those folding chairs after digging them out. They have posted this on twit ter, winters coming and house safe is gathering an army. Playing the game of cones can lead to fines, so shovel, and share. No safe. Lets go back outside to our continuing coverage this morning. Lets head down to Delaware County. Lauren johnson has been seeing a whole soup and mix of conditions out there lets see what it is like right now. Lauren . Reporter hello, i like how scott described it earlier, it is a weather buffet. We started with snow, switched over to rain, now we are at sleet and snow falling here, in Delaware County. Were in follow come at wawa. Do you see plow trucks here keeping this space safe for drivers that show up. We caught a few guys that came over earlier. No coats, no boots, venturing over to the wawa. They say they needed to get a few things because they will be stuck inside all day. We walk over to the pumps. I saw the guy getting gas. I said where could he be going check out this interest view. What do you think. Im not because i thought i had a snow day but i have to drive to Atlantic City for work. Reporter i dont get day off. No, local five, elevator union. We have a big job at caesars Atlantic City. So, im off to work. Reporter what do you think about your commute. It should be pretty clear. I think they are calling for more rain at the shore but i think they will call for tidal flooding. Reporter i saw you brush off the snow, cleaning off the car. Getting ready. Reporter how long is your commute. A little over an hour. Reporter what do you think today. Probably hour and a half, i have ton in by 6 00 to get a early start. Reporter hour and a half to Atlantic City and not getting a day off. It is starting to come down harder hitting me in the face. We will stay out here and brave the storm and let you know, we will toss to break and we will be right back. Very good morning. 5 17. Do you see bird flying around there . Snow cover in trenton. Good morning to you. A couple inches on the ground. Sue says it will pick up around 8 00 when we will see the heavier snow falls. It depend where you are, a couple inches in some places, up to 2 feet in the Lehigh Valley. We are taking a look at capitol in trenton. A lot of our governmental offices decided to close. Emergency management offices will be opened, many opening up later around 10 00 this morning. Lets check to see what the conditions are like in new jersey right now, department of transportation, seeing road Vantage Point annes we will check in there. Good morning, how are you. Good morning. What is it like, what are your conditions . I know you have been out, and crews working hard. I have been hearing of a couple accidents. What are the road like at this hour at 5 18. Right now we have full activation statewide which means we have got more than 2300 pieces of equipment that are deployed. It is snowing pretty steadily and heavily in the north and Western Region especially, so there is some, snow cover there. In south jersey the road are mostly wet, Road Conditions are passable, but traffic is moving slowly, it is light, and we do have people staying home, staying off the road today and help crews get their job done. Your crews got a head start pretreating the roads. What can we expect over next 10 to 12 hearst with the crews our goal is to keep up with the snow. Right now it is coming down at a rate that we can keep up. When snow really starts to come down two or three or 4 inches an hour it gets very challenging. Our goal, to do our best to keep those road passable and then watch the snow subside and get down to blacktop as soon as possible after that. The typical speed restrictions in place on the road right now, telling people that are tractor trailers, motorcycles to stay off the roads. On the new jersey turnpike from the delaware memorial bridge, up to exit number 8a we have a 35 miles an hour speed restriction, from exit 8 a all the way down to George Washington bridgette is 45 miles an hour, and on the from cape may, to brick, which is, 45 miles an hour. In brick north, it is 35 miles an hour. Once again how many crews do you have out . Im sure this is another reminder to give them a break when they are plowing the road right new we have more than 2300 plows working to keep those road clear. Well, thank you. They are doing great work here we have been seeing snow, there and new we are seeing blacktop in our Vantage Point. You guys do great work. Thanks very much. Stick around. We will check back with you all morning long. We appreciate your time. Thank you very much. Reporter our pleasure, thanks very much. Lets get a check of the latest conditions out there, sue serio, good morning. Thomas and karen, even though storm is here there are wild card in play as we predict the rest of this storm including the track of the storm, exact track even though it is here, where it goes from here. The warmer air that is moving north ward we have been keeping a close eye on that because it effects snow fall totals and how much sleet and rain mix in, also affecting the snowfall totals, in fact one lead to the other. You can see this stretches from lake ontario to the state of georgia, and big giant storm and intensifying as it continues to move north with very heavy rain to the south of us that sleet line in new ded cross into new jersey and snow to the north of that here in philadelphia and especially to the north where it is really piling up. We on that snow, rain line and whatever is falling is falling heavily. Same for haverford here in philadelphia we are seeing a u. Up around richland, plumstead, bucks county, it is all snow anots of tonight Cape May County, and, atlantic and cape may and every where in between as well as the lower two counties of delaware futu cvy rain, continuing over the next couple of hours and then by 8 00 is really war of the rain , in cape may countn philadelpha we are still seeing that colder air and milder air fighting it out, and the mix of precipitation here and it is still snow in the Lehigh Valley where steve keeley is this morng. By 11 00 we are seeing more of that change over it gets cold inner southern new jersey so as the storm exits lets say between 11, 1 1afternoon we wilr coming in and little bit of snow but by that time it wont be steady snow but snow showers and snow squals and we could get a few more throughout the afternoon but we will see sunshine before the day is through but it will be very cold tonight and youll have ut for anything that fell today, freezing up tonight. So that is the future cast warnings and watches still in effect for us, including blizzard warning in the northern suburbs and winter storm warning here in philadelphia, what iwarning meas factored in with the high snowfall totals, 35 miles an hour wind or greater, visibility reduced to a quarter mile or less, all that for a duration of three hours or more constitutes a blizzard wind gusts at 31 in the city, 30 miles an hour in wilmington , already, cranking up, look at this future wind gusts in the shore point Atlantic City and wildwood 62 mile an hour wind gusts by 8 00 this morning. Where we predict height of the storm to be by 11, 64 miles an hour wind gusts and then still in the upper 40 miles an hour range by 3 00 in the afternoon and will calm down eventuall ily but thinks storm as m
