automobiles. >> that's right. a lot of people headed out this morning, hitting the road. we have lauren johnson, also at the airport, steve keeley is covering everything for you, team coverage, on this, i guess we will call it the great get away. steve keeley at a gags station, will talk to motorist that is second. lauren johnson flying high. probably doesn't appreciate i'm saying. that will we'll get to you in just a moment. >> steve looks like he's ready for a gobbler already. >> one of my favorites. you're bright, man oh, man. >> i got my bright outfit on, ready to go, so you can see me coming the street. >> first, a check on the forecast, good morning. >> good morning, of course the busiest travel day of the year and the weather, it is important, looking good up and down the east coast. take a look at the midwest, watching snow in minneapolis, rain moving through chicago, and as we move toward memphis, parts of arkansas, louisianna, looking at showers, thunderstorms. that will be the system that will bring some thanksgiving showers toward the delaware valley tomorrow. but it does not look like a wash out for thanksgiving. weather by the numbers for your wednesday on scale of one to ten, we will give it a seven. looking good a lot of sunshine, but temperatures will stay below average. right now it is chilly, 35 degrees, winds out of the west northwest at about 3 miles per hour. look at the temperatures waking up right now to 20 degrees in millville. 29 degrees in wilmington, 32 in trenton, some of the coldest air so far this season in the delaware valley. soap, across the region for today, 50 degrees, that will be the afternoon high in center city, 50 down the shore, lehigh valley, temperatures top out in the upper 40's. so, hour by hour, our cold start, 7:00 a.m., still in the 30's. upper 40's by 3:00 this afternoon. by 7:00 temperatures dip into the low 40's. so, as we spell it out, upper 40's to around 54 today. coming up we will time out some of the travel trouble spots and also talk about when that rainfall moves in for thanksgiving on the east coast. over to you, bob? >> hey, scotty, good morning, 4:02, gobble gobble this wednesday morning. here is a live look at left over construction, this is along route one, northbound, up near oxford valley mall, once they pull those cones out, and all of the construction zones on the overnight are complete, pretty much done with through the weekends. penndot does not have any noon road closures after we get rid of all of the stuff this morning, here is a live look at the vine street expressway. still closed between the schuylkill and broad street. the normal drill until about 5:30 or so. and get ready for practice, yes, we are talking practice, they practiced last night, they'll do it again today, parade practice, of corpse, for the big parade tomorrow. here's what you need to know. at around 9:30 this morning, they're going to close the kelly drive, coming into the city, and the art museum circle, right there, in front of the parkway, they'll close it all day, open it up for three and a half hour stretch for the evening rush hour. and then they'll close it again tonight into tomorrow morning for the parade. so that's going to cause havoc leaving sent city. if you're going to stay a little later, hint, get out of town earl. >> i you sounded like iris in there for a moment, practice, practice. we mentioned millions of americans are hits the roads today. >> to see their families and friends for the thanksgiving holiday n all we have about almost 50 million americans expected to be traveling by car or plane or bus or train, at least 15 miles from their home over this long thanksgiving holiday. weekend up from last year, and whether you were traveling by car or by plane, the increase in travel is spurred by lower gas prices. >> our lauren johnson begins our team coverage on the great get away, joining us from philadelphia international airport. good morning to you, lauren. >> reporter: good morning, it is crunch time, everyone has somewhere to be, that's why people are showing up here at airports, they'll be packed with people today. what many industry experts believe will be the busiest travel day of the year. the lines start well before you make it inside the airport, heavier traffic than usual on the entrance roadways leading to the airport, so that could slow you down drastically trying to get to your plane, people being dropped off, pick up, around the clock today. once inside the kiosk, the baggage drops, the ticket counters packed with people needing a cyst tans before they make their way to the gates, and the tsa lines will be snake around as hundreds line up to be screened. you know the rules by now, if you aren't tsa pro-check, no shoes, no coat, take your laptops out, liquids have to be left in 3 ounces. bottom line it is going to be a jam packed day, all day, traveling with kids can get tricky, as well, so keep that in mind when deciding how much time you might need once you get to the airport. we of course want to wish everyone traveling mercies, hope everyone practices patience and kindness on this thanksgiving eve. karen, thomas? >> reporter: it is cold. and i was just on the phone with our executive producer boy i'm glad we're doing these boxes, these things where you see multiple reporters, because we have to say the cliche team coverage, don't we? you know karen as you describe me, our viewers by now know me, i am a delicate flower. >> sure, sure, absolutely, that's exactly what i think of. >> what kind of flower would that be? >> it will be a wilted cold frosted flower. when bob says bridges your plants in, the coldest night of the season, that's me, bring moo know. >> bring your plants and steve in. >> so it is at least the winds died down. i shouldn't complain, because i know there are great people out there working non-stop like the folks here at wawa. and i talked to jessica on the phone yesterday, coincidentally, why was i at cosco, do we go to 30th street station? snow, go to where the people are, greg gill roy comes into work an hour earlier than he should, gets here at wawa, as i'm waking up probably, and starts interviewing people, and among them, jessica brown, who lives here in the palmyra area, right across route 73. one of the wise travelers who follows triple a's advice, and get up as early as greg, with her family to start her eight hour drive to north carolina. >> we're going by car. it is just is a eight hour drive. we usually leave in the middle of the night so that we don't get hit the traffic. hopefully we miss most of the traffic. >> too much traffic. it is too much chaos. and, you know, i think it is safer just to be home, stay home for the holidays. share the holidays with my mom, close family, friends. so i would rather just stay home, because i know the travel will be very heavy. >> just going to have small little family dinner with me and my kids and my brother and some couple of other people coming over and just so they enjoy being thankful for having food on the table, and friends, family, to share it with. >> well, that's the attitude to have. and just reminder, if you're going to be among the thousands filling up at wawa, where we go every year, and we talk to these great people. because philadelphians come over the bridge, come here, they now have diesel fuel. now competing with these big tractor-trailers, that you see here, figure up, and a box truck, you're competing with them, for the lanes here, and that's good. craig was just showing you back and forth, another piece of good news, even though they raise the gas tags here in new jersey 22 cents, you're still hovering close to that $2 a gallon price, so not too bad. not too much to complain about, other than you'll hear the complaint from me, and as mike jerrick always reminds me, that's why the smart people in the news business anchor, and the lesser small people are out in the conditions doing whatever they do, like you, keeley, that's what he says to me. >> i wouldn't go that far. and people like me for 20 years since the beginning of the show. >> steve, thank you, we'll check back with you. >> it is 4:09 right now. police are investigating a fatal police shooting in newark, new jersey, prosecutors say officers shot two men while responding to report of gunshots on tuesday afternoon. one man was killed, another is in critical but stable condition. no word yet on what prompted police to open fire. >> former philadelphia police officer is facing attempted murder charges for shooting his son. prosecutors say 46 year old door yan young was off duty on labor day when he began arguing with his 19 year old son, devine inside their home. that's when he shot his son in the back. young retired from the force just ahead of yesterday's charges. his son is still recovering. to a story we toll you about first on fox. there are still many truck questions about package that exploded tuesday in center city. the bomb squad was back out last night, on the block, where explosive package blew up in a man's face. now, he survived with some serious injuries. as fox 29's dave schratwieser reports it, appears the victim was targeted. >> bomb squad experts returned to pine street tuesday night after a resident at this apartment building received a package and was worried about opening it. it is the same building where a he can plosive device in a package went off around 4:00 a.m. injuring a 60 year old man. >> the blast was right up to the right of the window. >> philip wheatly said short distance away at opine street bed and breakfast, heard loud blast in the early morning hours. >> i knew it was a bomb. >> what was going on in your mind at that point? >> a bomb. >> wheatly visiting from australia said the blast was following by screaming, as police and bomb experts went to 18th and pine street where the explosion i have went off. the victim lives in an apartment here with his roommate. he suffered injuries to his hands, face and chest. >> it was addressed and was meant for him, but for what is the issue and the question at hand. >> experts say the bomb was a victim activated device, rigged to go off when the victim opened the package, which he thought was a shipment of medication, for asthma. the explosive device came in the manila envelope, left at the building monday evening, it is now being analyzed, at an atf lab. >> it is upset to go hear that anybody was targeted like that. >> dave schratwieser, "fox 29 news". president-elect donald trump in west palm beach florida, first visiting is the it since winning the election. he has made the annual trip to his estate for the past 20 years. meanwhile, mr. trump has soft ends his stance on climate change. >> also, some of his harsh opinions on his former rival, hillary clinton. the president-elect now says there is some quote connective at this between humans and climate change, telling the new york times that clean air is vitally important. trump said during his campaign that climate change was a hoax, also backing off his comments that he prosecute former rival hillary clinton, it is no longer something he feels strongly about. meanwhile, president-elect continuing to interview people for cabinet positions during ben carson, anacine these a lumus. >> travel times being carved out. in the spirit of thanksgiving, sharing, we have allowed a few tips to prevent holiday travel mishaps. >> also, just imagine this: up to your slammed with snow all the way up to the side of your house, you've got to head on out for the holidays. we will tell you what people are still cleaning up after a storm rolled through. where things come from? [vo:]it's nice to know that raymour and flanigan is proud to be a leading recycler- 17 million pounds of recyclable materials every year. turned from trash into treasure. so in the future, we will all have a more beautiful world. ♪ >> 4:15, good morning, everybody, from outside the airport to inside. look at them, they look happy, the whole kitchen sink and information there. that's the line inside. lauren johnson's down there live at philadelphia international airport. so if you're just waking up, and grabbing your coffee, obviously, there is a few folks that are already ahead of you there again probably for the first flights at it around 5:00 or so. the airport recommending you get down there two hours in advance of your take-off time. right now, getting there, no problems at all, live look at i95, philadelphia international airport. if you're using mass transit today, some septa changes, they'll kick in their tm fare collection program at noon today, anticipating folks leaving work early, schools, they're anticipating getting out early. so that means the fares are going to be collected before you enter the train platform area. in other words, they're collecting tickets up above at the regional rail hubs here in center city. so make sure you get your tickets in advance, get them this morning, if you don't have your transpass, so that you're good to go for this afternoon. a lot of folks on the go, as we heard from that one woman, at wawa early this morning, driving eight hours to south carolina, hopping on 295, you are looking good this morning, all the way up and over the delaware memorial bridge. pay attention. if you're traveling out of town, there is construction everywhere, not just here in philadelphia, we're not the only ones rebuilding all of the inch if a structure. pay attention be be alert. after this morning you will not see any active work zones. you'll see the barriers, the cones, the lane shifts. but pretty much once everybody packs up the cones today, we're going to be good to go. northbound travel letters on the new jersey turnpike, folks headed to up north jersey, new york for the weekends, no problems at the moment on the turnpike, otherwise, kind of quiet in the 50's here, across the board on all of our major roadways. staying home? >> looking pretty good specially along the east coast, ultimate doppler is dry and quiet. we have thanksgiving showers headed our way. look at all of the moisture off to the west. snow in minneapolis, rain in chicago this morning, that activity moving toward the st. louis area. also, cincinnati, getting pretty wet. but temperatures here at home, it is cold, 20 right now in millville, 30 atlantic city, 30 degrees in pottstown, 24 in the poconos. look at the cold air across parts of the northeast, and new england, 29 in syracuse. syracuse, still digging out from all of the snow. almost 20 inches of snow the past couple of days in the syracuse area. so certainly take a look at some of the snow blowers going there. they're burried in almost once again 20 inches of snow. for us, though, not looking at any snowfall today. temperatures upper 40's in pottstown, 50 the high temperature philadelphia, 50 in atlantic city, sunshine, giving way to some clouds. what about that thanksgiving day forecast? we're looking at temperatures tomorrow, low ooh 50's, mostly cloudy, couple every scattered showers tomorrow, but it won't be a wash-out. the weather authority seven day forecast, sun, comfortable, 54 today, light rain tomorrow, mostly cloudy, on "black friday", 56 degrees, partly sunny on saturday. then, look at what happens. by monday into tuesday of next week, temperatures climb, thomas, back to around 06 degrees above average. >> oh, i'm identifying that tuesday, all right, scott, thank you. let's take to you d town now, detroit, where suspect has been arrested in the wayne state police university officer. officer trying to stop a man on a bicycle off campus when shod in the head. hours after the shooting detroit police arrested d'angelo davis. officer is in critical condition undergoing surgery. >> happening now, investigators are still piecing together what exactly happened that caused five children to be killed during a school bus crash in tennessee. memorial service was held at a church in chattanooga last night for the five student killed in monday's crash. twelve other student remain in the hospital, half in critical condition. local investigators say johnanthony walker speeding along narrow winding road when the bus crashed into a tree. he's charged with vehicular homicide. >> and today is the last time the president obama will be performing a favorite thanksgiving tradition, the turkey pardon. his daughters, sasha and malea, have always been by the president's side whenever they had this occasion. >> the white house instagram photos of the two turkeys being pardoned, so meet tate err right here, enjoyed snacking on worms and walks with swagger. turkey dating site? i got to go. i got to stop. got to stop. >> bonn, if you talk one more time. >> don't make me come back there. >> good morning, everyone, great to have you with us, scott, we need to check the forecast. >> not dealing with any rainfall on the east coast this morning or yet. but look at what we are dealing with, temperatures, cold, it is only 20 degrees this morning, and in millville, 30 atlantic city, 30 degrees right now in pottstown, and we have 24 in the pocono mountains. upper 20s in lancaster, mid 30's right now in philadelphia, so, that wednesday fox travel case this morning, temperatures casino every chilly in the 30's, center city, as we go hour by hour, into the afternoon, high temperatures top out around 50. sun giving way to clouds, then, by this evening, it is mostly cloudy, temperatures will be in the low four's, than cloud cover will stick around into your thanksgiving. ultimate doppler, it is dry, it is quiet, but here's tomorrow's system, bringing snow, minneapolis, rain in chicago, this morning, memphis, right now, looking at showers, even thunderstorms moving into louisianna. high pressure has been in control. but watch that storm system as it continues to move toward the east. so by 10:00 tonight, it is mostly cloudy, there could even be couple of flurries in the pocono mountains, then, watch what happens, as we go toward thanksgiving. by lunchtime, looking at some scattered showers, across the area, it will be kind of cool, temperatures top out in the low 50's, so we zoom in little closer. by tonight, it is mostly cloudy, you can see, couple of flurries, maybe little bit of sleet maybe in the pocono mountains, then as we go toward thanksgiving, it is mostly cloudy, thanksgiving morning. watch the clock. by 11:00, 12:00 looking a the some areas of light rain, part of south jersey into delaware, then that continues into the afternoon and also the evening. so, just keep that in mind. we do have some rain, bob kelly, in that thanksgiving forecast for the delaware val. >> i oh, oh, feathers going to get wetment good morning, gobble gobble 4:31 on the big turkey trot get away day. live look here, the vine expressway still closed this morning, between the schuylkill and broad street. all part of that overnight construction. once they wrap it up, bamm, they'll put the cones in the truck, through the weekends. now, here's a live look at i-95, actually, in is the schuylkill expressway, right near montgomery drive. so, light volume this morning, at least, at the moment. get ready for the big parade. they'll be practicing for the parade. the kel i have drive will be closed as well as art museum circle. anyone coming into town, will be pushed onto fairmount, always hot mess, around 9:30, so practice from 9:30 to 3:00. open up the roadways for the evening rush hour. but then at 6:30, forget about it, they'll shut it down again, the kelly, the martin luther king drive, and that art museum circle from years of experience, you want to be out of downtown before that closure goes into effect at 6:30, otherwise, getting out on the drives or the parkway is just going to be a mess, and of course, as we go through the day, the volume will be increasing on all of the major roadways. folks head maybe up to the poconos for this holiday weekends. no problems on the blue route at the moment. no problems on the pennsylvania turnpike. but a man who has talk to few folks that are already out and about on their gobble gobble turkey trails today, steve keeley over in pennsauken, new jersey, steve, get the gobble sandwich over there, you'll be all set. >> bob, this is superbowl sunday for you. so this is big day for you in your business. bob, i met a guy going out duck hunting. and just met a lovely woman from alabama, we'll have her interview later, boy, that made my thanksgiving. so i'm going show you route 73. you can see this, bob, look how busy this is. we're here a lot of times doing other stories, never see this much traffic this early in the day. so, we're approaching those cars, you see with the brake lights approaching the talcony palmyra bridge, and the big trucks on the road now coming from philadelphia. and we're going to pan left. you can she wawa already getting busy, and again, reminder, folks, the box trucks and the mack trucks can now fill up at this super wawa, and many others, because they've got diesel fuel. so i'm sure a a lot of traffic congestion here, people are filling up before they fill up the roads. drivers out early taking the advice of all of the experts who say if you leave early, you'll get there safer and faster, and we met some drivers who got up long before the sun is coming up. >> leaving early, get out of work early today, so leaving early to beat the traffic really. you know? get safe. >> my plans for thanksgiving with my wife, my brother-in-law, just flew in from la. with him and his wife and his two kids, and my mother, and we're going to have a wonderful blessed thanksgiving dinner. >> my thanksgiving holiday, i get off work at 7:00 in the morning. i'll go home, take shower, me and the kids going to philadelphia. after leaving pa, we'll go back to jersey and get some rest. work that night. >> thanksgiving day i actually have to work. so i'm going to cook small meal for me and my kids, my brother, couple of other people probably going to come over for little while. i'm not traveling because i have to work. >> and so the day before turkey day we'll look at the other bird here, the wawa symbol, the goose, flying proudly. and a lot of people in the foreground of the goose, filling up here, at this wawa here in pennsauken, which is a favorite of philadelphians, and favorite of mine as i continue to thank my co-workers, who you don't see usually, who do most of the work behind the scenes, jacky eckert, our assignment he had torp, primo five star performer, and rare in our business as you know, karen, thomas, being that good at your job being that nice after person, that is a rare combination. >> look at you in the thanksgiving spirit. thank you, steve. >> we'll roll credits at the end of the show to thank everyone. hey, from buses, trains, and cars of course to air travel, many people are choosing the friendly skies. spends the holiday with their loved ones. >> as we look at the airport right now, that's the outside. let's go inside, where our lauren john is -- johnson is with the getaways. >> you're right, lot every people inside. we saw the lines slow down just little bit here at the tsa pre-check our check point. the people are getting through pretty smoothly. one thing you keep hearing the warnings, please make sure to have your boarding passes out. jane a from triple a joins thus morning, a lot more people in the airport because they've got little extra monday think year. >> absolutely, gas prices are the lowest since 2008 for the the thanksgiving holiday, so extra disposable income in people's pockets, they want to travel for thanksgiving. >> talk about this being the biggest holiday travel season since 2007? >> yes, we will see the most thanksgiving travelers since 2007. which was the year before the great recession. we're seeing travel here at philadelphia international airport. we're going to see about 50,000 philadelphia area residents traveling out of philadelphia international airport for the holiday. and this is the biggest departure day at the airport of the year. so we've seen it already with these lines. and it is only going to pick up. >> talk about how much the average passenger spent on a plane ticket this year? >> triple a is projecting that the average round trip flight was about $205 this year, so that's affordable for family that wants to travel you. >> you and bring talking, and it sound cheap, but last year was cheaper? >> last year 20% less than that. so airfares are trending about 20% higher this year than last. >> still affordable price, family wants to go away and see their loved ones? >> absolutely. thanks gig is the holiday that most people just want to pick up and get home for the holiday. so yes, we're seeing that today. >> best advice for people who plan to come to the airport today. >> definitely want to come early at least two hours before, if you are tsa pre-screen, you want to know where that line is, if you are not, you want to, as you said, have your boarding pass out and ready, be ready to take your shoes off, be ready to take your coat off, get your electronics out and ready, your liquid item, though kinds of things, honestly pack your patience. >> you said this line right now which really isn't a line is nothing compared to last year? >> oh, absolutely. as the morning goes on, we will see the line go all the way down and snake around. >> okay, so get here early if you can. >> yes, absolutely, much better to wait at the gate than have to panic that you're not going to get through security. >> perfect, thank you so much for your time. all right, thomas, karen, so pretty quiet here right now, lot of people, organized chaos, right now it is fine, but we'll stay here, and check in on everyone. >> are people smiling?
