>> looks like it is snowing heavily behind you caitlin. penndot says it is ready for any trouble we get from tonight's winter weather. the agency says it has been treating roads spreading salt since thursday. so 337 salt trucks are hitting the road tonight, through tomorrow morning's rush, and even though our last winter storm is pretty much, well, pretty much a bus around here, penndot says better safe than sorry. >> winter weather is unpredictable. we try to make the roads clear, passable, we always try to make sure that we have enough material, manpower, in place, so when storms happen, the predictions, you know we got to bring the guys in got to be ready. we can't be, you know, laying down on the job. go to have the guys out and on the roadway even if the forecast not what they say. >> there go. if you're keeping track penndot says it has used 55,000 tons of salt so far this winter. this time last year it already used tens of thousands of tons more. >> we're following breaking news in philadelphia tonight. police have made arrest in the murder of a woman who was gunned down while waiting for a bus near the temple university cam pulls. fox 29's jennifer joyce is live in the news room tonight with new information on this. jennifer. >> source within the homicide unit told our dave schratwieser the person in custody is a former co-worker of kim jones now waiting to be arraigned on murder charges, nearly three weeks ago, jones was gunned down in what police say was planned attack. happened near her home at 12th and jefferson streets in north philadelphia. police say the shooter was lying in wait for roughly an hour until jones stepped out of her house and walk down the street. that's when the person pulled the trigger, and ended jones' life. you can see the scene play out through a police surveillance camera. the victim is seen at the bus stop. the camera pans off before the shooting then shows the victim on the ground, and the shooter calmly walking away. westbound on jefferson street. jones was well likes by everyone we talked to. she was a respected child advocate for a center city agency, police are convinced this was no random killing. since jones' killing police have had pulled surveillance video from several sources, me were able to track the shooter's escape through the local neighborhood, onto temple university campus, then a trip on septa subway line, at broad and cecil b. moore where he ultimately exit dollars at this hunting park station, according to sources. so from day one investigators were able to learn about the suspect's thanks to video surveillance again our police source has not released the name of the person in custody, and police public affairs has not commented on any arrest at this point. we are await to go learn more. >> jennifer, thank you. also following a developing story in gloucester county tonight. take a look at some cell phone video at fire at depford fire apartment complex. tonight several are in the hospital. fire is out. crews had some challenges fighting the flames. dave kinchen live in deposition for the tonight with the story dave? >> reporter: iaian firefighters had to improvise here that's because of the two fire hydrants that are actually in this apartment complex. fire investigators say that people were actually parked by them so they actually had to row lion a tanker filled with walter to at least start their attack on the fire. in the meantime, they also battled the winds. within minutes, a big chunk of the chestnut lane ants in westville, depford township, new jersey destroyed. >> the fire start in the one building, and it just spread like wild fire so fast. >> it is something else. like i never seen anything like it before in my life. >> eight permanent ants were taken out before it was all done. >> we got here, we had an apartment well involved with five people trapped on the second floor. two adults, three children, were rescued from the three alarm fire, they were hospitalized for minor injuries including smoke inhalation. meanwhile, an emotional embrace from dorothy cane, knowing her daughter's home is now gone. >> she is a single parent. and she lost everything. she don't have anything now. she has to start all over. thank god they made it out. >> meantime, the fire marshall is investigating, they are searching for a cause and the victims remain in the hospital at this time. again, minor injuries, smoke inhalation firefighters say this could have been much, much worse. ' shane. >> dave, thank you. what started a big fire at a strip mall in new jersey? that's the question investigators are trying to answer in ewing township, mercer county tonight. the fire started just after 4:00 a.m. on the 2300 block of spruce street. the flames started in a liquor store and spread to the deli next-door. no one was hurt. in burlington county tonight man covered in blood with only underwear on is in jail for killing his girlfriends and her father. a family member found the bodies of 24 year old nicole wilson and 52 year old brian wilson in their home on washington street, in mt. holly yesterday morning. police arrested 27 year old dennis, who they say lived with the family, and was dating nicole. a medical examiner says she and her father were beaten to death, no word yet on a motive. happening now, a warning from atlantic county, officials there are warning people about batch of heroin that's even more dangerous than normal. investigators believe the dope may be responsible for as many as five recent heroin overdoses in the county. the bags come stamped in purple lettering that reads one stop. if you see anyone you think might be sick from taking this drug please call police. and tonight police are trying to figure out what caused a deadly crash in philadelphia's lawncrest section. it happened early this morning, car slammed into a tree outside friends' hospital on the boulevard. the woman who was driving was thrown from the car and died on the scene. police have not yet released her name. no one else was hurt. a mess on route 24 in millsboro. police blame delaware man who they say was driving drunk. they say 31 year old jeffrey dorsey slammed into another car which flipped it last night. two people inside that car are hurt, but expected to be fine. dorothy's not injured but is facing various charges. >> how did a man die in police custody? no word yet on what killed the 29 year old man at philadelphia police headquarters in center city yesterday. police say they arrested him for dui put him in a cell with another inmate, and several hours later they found him unresponsive. he died at a hospital and the investigation into why continues. when you -- whitney houston's daughter remains in a atlanta hospital. "tmz" has diminished brain function. found face down in a bathtub at her home in the atlanta suburbs yesterday. police say her husband and friend performed cpr. brown was taken to a hospital where she climbers catapulted down the side of mount hood, near hog back, barely missing eric brawl. >> a woman lost her balance drug her partner down the slope toward me. >> they landed 500 feet down the mountain close tore where the rest of the team was climbing. all part of portland mountain rescue. there at the time to educate climbers and to be ready for something like this. >> just having people there that knew how to attends to them was big. >> mark got to them first. the woman was two broken ankles, the guy who fell with her suffering a broken leg. and says both they and their rescuers >> as they help the patients, 20 other climbers formed a human wall. >> using their back packs to protect them from that falling ice. >> that is easily could have saved the lives of the patients we had there our rescuers. it was really up. >> but it was only their first challenge. >> all the sudden somebody yelled falling again, there was another climber on list way down. this guy ended upgoing off kind of a lip and ended upright into a funeral, which is a hole or steam event. >> pulled him out that climber was able to walk off the mountain. the other two and the rescuers stuck in the snow for hours. air 12 was there as the national guard helicopter brought them to safety. a hard fall, and hard lesson, on a treacherous stretch. very trecherous indeed, that's a dangerous mountain. still chance for some snow showers. the snow moving in right now if you're about to head out, anyone again watching us who is going to be headed home from parties later just be careful, always that initial first hour when the snow coats the road at night. then it can be very slippery. so even though we have rain tomorrow morning, don't forget about tonight if you're going to be out. >> maybe you can after a group of volunteers spent the entire day creating a dream bedroom for aj. magical make-over. >> you would never know it, but this cute little guy suffers from extremely rare genetic disorders called f.o.p. syndrome. it is a debilitating disease where aj's muscles slowly start to turn to bone. >> always smiles. doesn't matter, he can be in pain we could rub cream on him, give him his steroid, no what it is, he is always smiling. i don't know how he does it. >> f.o.p. is sometimes referred to as stone man syndrome. in many cases injuries can cause joints to be permanently frozen in place. aj was diagnosed at three. >> it will progress until it limits his mobility. he no, sir. he'll tell you he is a superhero, because he has extra bones and those are his super powers. >> common in. >> that's why aj is about to get a new superhero bedroom thanks to a non-profit organization called special spaces. they do bedroom make overs for children with life threatening medical conditions. kim resnick is the director of the delaware, newark, philadelphia champer. >> just touched my heart. i knew it was a perfect match for me to volunteer for. >> a perfects match, because sadly, kim knows what it is like to have a child with a rare disease. >> oh, my god. i actually had a neurological illness, very rare, and we left her at four and a half years old post surgery. and then we left her it, took some time to obviously grieve and heal and get back into life, and the best way i knew how to feed my soul was to give back. >> so kim and her crew of volunteers mostly family including her twin sister, jennifer, spends many a weekend making special spaces. changing children's lives, one bedroom at a time. this is a look at aj's room before. a lot of time and planning going into transforming aj's space into a place of hope and inspiration. >> we're little anxious beforehand then just in work mode all day, and then the excitement sets in, and we wait, you know, for the child to come home. >> and aj's reaction as he walks into his room? priceless. >> huh? >> hey, how did that get there? >> no detail forgotten, soup heroes on the wall, a batmobile bed a batman sealing fan, cottam city mural. you think of it, they thought of it. >> aj is all smiles, everyone else crying, tears of joy. >> hey how did that get up there? >> i mean, they brought us an angel. it is amazing. who does this? >> if aj breaks a bone it, cause as new bone to grow. he can't risk being hurt, so he can't play sports, and has very limited contact with other children. >> the diseases going to take over and this will be his safe haven. slutly unbelievable. oh this is fabulous. i'm happy for him. he goes through a lot of struggles. so for him to be that happy it, makes me happy. >> push that button. >> and it makes it all worth while for the volunteers. >> oh! >> just amazing feeling it, really is. >> a great full gonzalez family already want to go pay it forward. >> we will volunteer all the time we can give back to another child what they gave to our child so this can have some of the things we have, i would do it a hundred times in a row. >> there is no known cure for f.o.p. syndrome. gonzalez's say clinical trials are underway for a drug to treat the condition. but would be years before aj could even be eligible. because he's so young. still, the family
