Among those findings, that philly police do not receive regular consistent training on the departments deadly force policy. That officers do not receive enough training in techniques designed to d escalate tense situations. And that large segments of the community do not trust the Police Department to investigate itself a controversial incident happens. As we work to build trust in all of our communities across this country the first really the first part of the trust is having the courage to acknowledge whats working and whats not working. Primarily whats not working. Reporter the report calls tasers can reduce the likelihood of fatal end counts between police and civilians. But that not all philly police are issued the device. In addition while most big city Police Departments routinely train all Academy Recruits in the use of tasers, philadelphia does not. In all the doj report finds 48 police short comes in policy and practice and makes none separate recommendations. Mayor nutter heaped praise on his Police Commissioner and viewed the report as a glass half full. Are we perfect every day . No. Do we get most of it right every day . Yes. Commissioner ramsay says some of the recommendations are already being acted upon and the doj for its part says it will follow up in six months and again a year after that to make sure progress is being made.
