Developing news tonight in the deadly crash of amtrak train 188. U. S. District judge approved a major settlement today that will settle claims from last years crash in Port Richmond. Overall hardship and more amtrak will pay 265 million to square up all claims that resulted from the deadly accident. And the victims will see that money pretty soon. In fact, they could have the money in hand by as early as next june. Instead of having to wait years for lawsuits to pay out play o out. Tom klein one of the lawyers who led negotiations with amtrak says this Program Allows a judge to hold hearings and evaluate damages. Victims will be allowed to testify or submit documents if they want in on that 265 million. Federal law caps payouts for one accident any, anyone accident for 295 million. Now, investigator say the engineer of amtrak train 188 was distracted when he took a turn way too fast causing that train to derail. It was traveling at more than twice the speed limit. Attorneys for the victims say this settlement is fair. Judge davis gave us a mission on the Management Committee who want these victims compensated fairly, efficiently and timely. We took that seriously and we believe that this program will accomplish that. Amtrak did not comment in detail but did release this short statement amtrak appreciates the guidance and involvement of the court in this matter because of the ongoing nature of the litigation amtrak will have no further comment at this time. It is important to note that congress raised that payout cap from 200 million after the Port Richmond crash. Police say someone shot him over and over just before 12 30 this morning on the 6500 block of north 17th street. Right now, police say that they have no motive and have not yet released the name of the man who died. In northeast philadelphia, another deadly shooting about an hour later. Someone shot and killed a 36yearold woman at an Apartment Building and injured a man who was with her. Police say more than a dozen shots rang out.
