Philadelphia veterans house helping Homeless Veterans for the past three years since 2012 here on baltimore avenue doing it again today really getting into this christmas spirit. As i step out of the way you can sigh folks waving maybe in the dark there. They served lunch earlier. Its dinnertime now. They are serving a nice christmas meal. Also, serve up it to let trees and showers and blankets and serving them today are veterans, non veterans even some kids we caught up with who are all just trying to get into the christmas spirit. Most of us may take for granted the slicing of that christmas ham or turkey today. But 63yearold carl miller chows down on a slice of pumpkin pie he says he just wants to kiss the chef. Carl served in the army back in the 1970s. Philadelphia Veterans Home didnt open its doors for him, he wouldnt have a family to share christmas with. Makes you feel like i have family again. Something about vets holidays feel lonely when they get together its like hey, we got family. Report rot the chef he jokily wants to kiss is marco who works at a restaurant in elkins park. Not today. He raised over a thousand dollars to help serve dozens of veterans. I was able to start gofundme and i got a lot of donations which helped a lot. His 11yearold brother nate has the drying duties. Theyre in town visiting relatives but along with their dad thought it important on christmas to give back. If they need somewhere to come and talk to somebody to we can point them in the right direction to get the help that they need. And be advocate for them. Reporter even when necessary stay overnight. She says she wanted to give her three kids the kind of gifts that will long live in their hearts. I wanted to celebrate the real reason for the season and let my kids understand that its not just about gifts. Its about giving to others.
