caught. iain. >> shawnette, thank you. a homeless man now faces charges in the death of a psychiatrist. philadelphia police have champed 27-year-old manuel baez with the murder of 75-year-old howard baker. the doctor was found dead inside the rodeway inn in center city on monday. he died of strangulation. police say on sunday baker told his wife he was heading out to watch the eagles game at a bar. investigators say instead he went to the hotel checked in and had two male visitors. to your fox 29 weather authority now. rain and dense fog on this christmas eve eve. looking live through the eye of our camera in wilmington. hard to tell because it's such a beautiful shot but there is some fog here and there. fox 29 meteorologist kathy orr is here. kathy, dreary, warm, though. >> dreary and warm that's for sure. with plenty of rain to go around. i want to draw attention to south jersey where we're seeing pockets of heavy rain here right along the garden stat parkway, middle township, upper township in cape may county and some thunderstorms moving into cape may as we speak. so very heavy rain if you're going down the shore perhaps for the holidays, maybe going down for christmas eve you are going to be in for some heavy rain. right now, in philadelphia, the temperature 62 degrees. and actually rising. we will reach our mack mum high right before midnight we are expecting to at least tight record of 66 degrees. right now in the poconos, 52. allentown 57. 63 degrees in millville. and visibility still at issue in wilmington only a half mile visibility. chester county you are under a dense fog advisory but that has been lifted still seeing pockets of fog and of course the pocono mountains visibility one and three quarters miles. take look at this. rain so far over half an inch in philadelphia. trenton reading close half an inch in allentown and doylestown .40 of an inch of rain. more rain heavy at times right through the evening. so expect some delays on area roads. also, on the roadways, some ponding somebody road spray, please be careful on those area highways and visibility will be reduced less than a mile due to the fog and due to the rain at times during stolen car crashed into it head on. the crash happened just before 9:30 on 49th street in southwest philadelphia. philadelphia police say the two men driving a stolen white hyundai tucson were trying to make a turn when it collide colliderred with the trolley. one of the men inside the car was trapped and had to be rescued right now both men are in critical condition at hahnemann hospital. 26 passengers on the trolley were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. happening right now, police think they've got a serial sexual predator on their hands. this bucks county man is in jail accused of sexually assaulting a child more than 10 years ago. and investigators fear this is only a small part of a very disturbing past. fox 29's brad sattin joins us live from the falls township police department. brad? >> reporter: lucy, we can tell you and we should say right from the start that this man and his former wife owned a daycare here in buck county. that daycare at this point has been closed for over a decade. so any of these allegations are at least that old. even though they are only now coming to light. however, there is no statute of limitations so police are going after this man after one woman has come forward. they are in the process now of trying to question two other women who were children at the time and they think there could be other victims out there. >> we gathered very quickly this man was a classic pedophile. >> reporter: after interviewing 54 cereal harry lawrence falls township police believe he may be a serial predator with years of access to children. arrested tuesday night and charged with aggravated indecent assault of a child between the years 2000 sand and 2003. alleged to have happened at the little joys daycare he and his now ex-wife ran inside their home. we're not showing you the home on the 200 block of vernon road in morrisville because he no longer owns it. police also believe his ex-wife who was well respected at the daycare had no knowledge of the alleged crimes. a young woman now in her early 20s saying she was sexually molested between six and 12 times when she was nine or 10 years old but was too afraid to come forward. >> it started out with sitting on his lap playing rid yo games and then he would start rubbing their back. >> reporter: over time, police say it got much worse. >> he continued and groomed them and over time he eventually work his way up to grabbing them from outside their clothing going underneath their clothing then actually putting his hands down their pants. >> reporter: police are investigating two additional cases and feel certain more victims are out there. >> there are probably in their late teens now or early 20s. we're hoping that they step forward. this might give them courage to come and, you know, get some justice for themselves. >> reporter: one tenant at the apartment complex where lawrence now lives along with several residents who still live in his old neighborhood say it's not the man they remember. >> to have news like that one of our neighbors used to be involved in something like that, it's disturbing. >> reporter: now tonight harry lawrence is in the bucks county prison. bail has been set at $250,000. coming up at 6:00 o'clock, we're going to hear from a man who had two children at that daycare about 10 years ago. lucy? >> so scary. all right, brad, talk to you soon. the family of a new jersey at any time trooper killed in the line of duty has now laid him to rest. joining trooper eli mccarson's family at his funeral fellow troopers and police officers from across the area. they gathered to pay their respects for the 30-year-old at rowan university. mccarson died when his cruiser crashed into utility pole last week. it only been on the job for 10 months and was just married in september. philadelphia police are looking for a suspect they say has stolen dozens of industrial propane tanks. the tanks were taken last thursday from fax air in frankford and james morrissey incorporated from the holmes you are second of the city. you can see in the surveillance video the suspect cuts the fence and then goes inside the yard and starts picking out propane tanks. a short time later he comes back with a mini van, drives through the hole in the fence and loads up the tanks. it's estimated he got away with close to $10,000 worth of tanks. if you recognize the thief or the van you're asked to give police a call. take a close look at this man much police say he burglarized businesses in fourth south jersey counties much investigators say the man uses a proa crowbar to pry open the doors of the marks and convenience stores. he's gotten away with cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes and cash. if you know who he is, call police. search is on for the person who shot and killed a man in east mt. airy late last night. the 49-year-old victim died on the 6600 block about 11:30 last night. police say a man shot him in the chest and that witnesses saw the guy run down horter street. three people are recovering tonight from gunshot wounds after a shooting last night in strawberry mansion. police say the two men and woman were outside a sports bar 27th and lehigh. they're in stable condition and so far no arrests. members of the military in afghanistan absolute fallen u.s. troops including staff sergeant peter taub, montgomery county native. taub and five other service members died in a suicide bomb attack. u.s. officials say the airmen were targeted by taliban fighters. suicide bomber drove his explosives latent motorcycle into a patrol area at bagram airfield on monday and today at an air force outside kabul, us troops attend add memorial service for those who died. they said prayers at the boots of the fallen. five men and one woman died. monday was deadliest day for american troops in afghanistan since may of 2013. >> no holiday miracles in harrisburg today. house members were sent home without voting on a budget. pennsylvania now been without a budget since july 1st. this is the longest the state has ever gone without having a budget in place. senate leaders and governor tom wolf are on the same page with a more than 30 billion-dollar budget that includes increased education spending. the problem is, it can't get it through the republican controlled house today sent members home. they her life. they're willingness to stop and help after a terrible late night accident is appreciated more than they know and she wants to let them know what it meant to her. our bruce gordon joins us in the newsroom with the incredible story. bruce? >> reporter: iain, if you find yourself driving southbound on the blue route the next couple of days just north of the mcdade boulevard exit you may notice a pair of tire tracks leading up to an embankment and into a grove of broken trees. the story behind those tire marks may strangely enough put a smile on your face. tire tracks, broken tree limbs and shattered car parts don't do justice to the severity of the accident. you have to see what's left of the 2000 sand chevy blazer 22-year-old chelsea baker was driving late late saturday nig night. >> when i first saw the pictures eyeballed my ice out. >> i bruised both my lungs. i have a severe concussion. it's insane. it's insane. >> you're lucky to be alive. >> i never should have walk away from that car accident. >> reporter: chelsea says another driver cut her off. she lost control, left the roadway and rammed into the trees demolishing her vehicle. she smashed her head on the dashboard and blacked out. >> i wake up to the sound of his voice. i can't see anything. i can't even see the car. >> reporter: young couple driving behind her had seen the accident and stopped to help. chelsea remember the man's actions clearly. >> all i can really remember him hold mike hand and talking to me and he was holding the car, too. because the car was on an incline. he said that like he didn't want me to move because the car could shift or move or fall. >> what does it mean to you for him to be there and to stay with you? >> everything. everything. i don't know if anybody else w was -- if he didn't stopped i could have laid there for hours. >> couple called 911 and within minutes the woodland fire company was on scene to rescue chelsea from herman geld suv. >> we had to remove a tree which is rare for the fire company to do. stabilize the vehicle which is tricky because it was on a slope and a pretty steep grade and then just to secure her spinal precautions and stuff like that to get her out. >> reporter: chelsea spent most of sunday in the hospital but is now out. hoping to meet the couple who stopped to render aid. >> i had guardian angels with me that night. >> reporter: they may not know it but the couple's live saving actions gave a little boy they never met an early christmas present that night. >> i have a four-year-old son. he can be without a questions after mistakes by one of its agents. a police report filed in washington, d.c. shows an agent left his service weapon radio and badge in his car and left a window rolled down. that's problem one. the next that happened on monday about a block from secret service headquarters in d.c., well someone stole all those thing. the police report says a witness saw someone reach into the car but didn't see them take anything. police have no suspects as of yet family men and women in paid ultimate place in keeping us safe were holiday. holiday meals for heroes held a special breakfast for the families of local police officers killed in the line of duty. 13 of our areas fallen heroes were repped today for some of these families this will be their first christmas without their loved one. >> it's you have to lose an officer any time, but especially during this time of year. it's particularly important at the holiday time when you think of, you know, usually for the rhett of us all of our families getting together and celebrating, and for them, there's one person missing who was taken away from them. >> after the breakfast the members of the fraternal order of police visite visited the gre new jersey state trooper eli mccarson. we mentioned earlier he was put to rest earlier today. this is a perfect time to bring home a new member of your family. adoptions are free through the end of the year at the burlington county animal shelter. so many animals desperately need a loving home. like apollo who is spending his second christmas at the shelter. he's super happy guy and panda who loves other dogs and children as well. she's three years old. and there's also rosy whose just about a-year-old. a pure bread and great with children and dogs as well. so many other dogs, so many massive landslide swept through the manufacturing city on monday. at least 70 people are still missing. officials say a manmade mountain of dirt and construction waste piling up for two years finally gave way after a heavy rain. >> there's no place like home. house housewives star theresa guidice. she finish her sentence just in time for christmas. she was serving time for pleading guilty to bankruptcy fraud. theresa will remain on house arrest with ankle monitor until february. the happy times are only short lived though. her husband joe said to begin his sentence in march. joe is not an american citizen and could be deported back to italy once he's released. today a grand jury indicted the truck driver who crashed into a limo van carrying tracy morgan. the grand jury charged kevin roper with first degree aggravated manslaughter. second degree vehicular homicide and third degree aggravated assault charges in the crash in 2014. that crash killed one person and severely injured morgan. in and out in less than two minutes. the woman accused of of plowing through dozen of people on the busy vegas strip this week was in court very briefly today. a judge arraigned her on charges stemming from sunday's deadly incident. prosecutors say she killed one person, injured 35 others. hold away's attorney plans to wave a preliminary hearing because they expect more charges. prosecutors charged her with one count of murder and one count each of child abuse and leaving the scene of an accide accident. her next court hearing is now in january. happening right now, around here, it is raining and a gray day. another damp night but it's definitely not cold. looking live at mark street in old city. we are on the verge of breaking records. does not feel like christmas in the city. >> it doesn't. fox 29 meteorologist scott williams is outside our studios. scott, i'm loving this weather. >> yes. this is definitely iain weather, because it feels like spring. i mean it's hard to believe that tomorrow is christmas eve. we'll shatter records. highs expected to top out in the mid 70s. but right now live here in old city, it is damp, it is dreary. so pack some patience a lot of splash and dash stepping outdoors right now. but let's talk about some christmas eve extremes. the record low for christmas eve, the coldest it's every gotten for low is 3 degrees much the normal high is 42 degrees. and the record high for tomorrow for christmas eve is 64 degrees but look at our forecast. smashing it by over 10 degrees. a high of 75 degrees and to put that in to perspective the warmest december day ever is 73 degrees so we'll smash that record as well. dating back to the 1800's with that high of 75 degrees. your holiday travel for christmas eve let's take a tour across the country and take look at several other cities as far as some of the weather conditions. tomorrow in la, 60 degrees. that's going to be cooler than the east coast. take look at dallas, texas for tomorrow. that high of 71. that's a few degrees cooler than our expected high temperature. looking pretty good there in atlanta 74 degrees. so kind of similar to us. mild a few thunderstorms will be record breaking traffic over the christmas and new year's holiday. more than 4 million vehicles expected to travel the toll road from christmas eve through new year's day. a traffic record was broken over the thanksgiving holiday. we're seeing similar conditions. no threat of snow or ice and low gas prices all construction and maintenance work is suspended until january 3rd. let's talk gas prices here's what you can expect to pay in philly the average price for gallon of regular $2.21. that's down 35 cents from last year. in new jersey, the average price is a buck 87 down 7 cents from last year. >> we just check with philadelphia international airport the rain and fog is behind some problems with an average delay of about an hour for both arriving and departing flights. so if you're traveling tonight you know best oh check your flight status with your airline. fox 29 was there bright and early this morning. security lines were pretty long i round 5am airport expecting big crowds tomorrow if you're flying leave yourself plenty of time and remember do not wrap the christmas presents because i have experienced in the past that tsa might unwrap them for you. and then you got to (laughter). >> talk about pressure, it's so warm -- >> it is. high pressure must be in control. >> high pressure is in control. like a summer bermuda high pressure is in control much take look at ultimate doppler. we're looking at more rain coming in tonight. any christmas parties, any late minute shopping, you'll be hit by the rain. so pack the umbrella. this is the most i've seen in a why on ultimate doppler screen. look at the yellows and the oranges. this is heavy rain. rain rates between a half an inch and an inch an hour where you see those colors. i'm keeping an eye on this i-95 corridor. i'll step out, baltimore, washington, heading through aberdeen, along the i-95 corridor, some heavy rain and there that's going to be moving into our suburbs into chester county, delco within the next hour or so. so heavy rain for you. another trouble spot is down the shore along the expressway through atlantic county the garden state parkway going south into cape may, we're talking about rain rates an inch an hour near atlantic city. atlantic city if you're heading down the shore for christmas, christmas eve, you are going to be hit by some heavy rain this evening. right now in philadelphia, 63 degrees. high temperatures are going to come late tonight as temperatures rise strong southwesterly winds and the pocono mountains 52. 59 in dover. 63 degrees in millville. as we widen out you can see that mild air is everywhere. even in upstate new york burlington, the adirondacks temperatures in the 50s. white face mountains in new york can't even make snow with these temperatures. you have to go northern maine to see the snow. you can see in harrisburg the temperature is 60 degrees. visibility not an issue everywhere. but you have that warm moist air and that's going create a problem. still in northern parts of delaware, half mile visible. 2 miles in reading in the poconos seeing visible issue as well that will continue through the evening. here's a look at our rise in temperature. normal is 43 degrees. right now we're 20 degrees above normal at 63. by 7:00 o'clock, still 63. 64 degrees by 9:00 p.m. by 11:00 p.m., i do expect we will reach our record high of 66 and then the temperatures continue toroids during the day tomorrow. future weather shows the heavy rain moving through right now. to the west there's severe weather. some heavy rain and even snow on the back side of our storm. of course, that stays in the midwest once again. and we stay on the super warm side of the storm. ahead of this front is huge surge of warm air moving and in a few more rounds of rain come tomorrow morning. but i do expect most of that thunderstorm activity to roll through into the late morning early afternoon and then we'll be drying it out for christmas eve evening if you have any plans. so that's the good news. here's a look at our probability of precipitation. obviously rain for your thursday. friday just a chance. saturday a good chance of some showers and sunday still a chance of rain. so very unsettled pattern even though we're talking about some serious warmth. so in the city overnight, 66. that would tie the record. showers expected, rising temperatures. tomorrow for your christmas eve, 75 degrees. a record day. last year, it was 64. we will break last year's record and also as scott mentioned earlier, the record, the all-time record for the warmest day ever in the month of december. it's truly amazing. let's talk about the records. tomorrow potentially a record friday could be a record. even sunday could be a record. take a look at the numbers. for the birds on saturday, 57. up to 70 degrees on sunday. expect gusty southwesterly winds that's how we'll make it to 70. behind that next front, a chance of showers for monday, 48. tuesday 52. and even a chance of showers into next wednesday but 54 degrees. now, iain, i know 54 will seem cool to you. >> i know. >> but that's still going to be 12 degrees above normal. >> probably above normal, right it's just crazy. >> end up being the warmest december ever. >> wow. there's so many records we can keep track. >> back a couple hundred years it was a little warmer. >> ben franklin. >> good enough. >> favorite beatles song, you got one?
