about 40-miles away from making landfall as a category one hurricane. it will be the first hurricane to make landfall in florida since wilma back in 2005. the pressure it's holding steady at about 984 millibars but, of course, you can see those rain bands heavy rain even tornado threat continuing there in florida. for our area, take look at this. we have tropical storm watches that have already been posted out ahead of the storm this basically means the potential is there for winds gusting over 40 miles per hour in the delaware beaches and all along the shore as we move toward the holiday weekend. so a danger concern across our area. as far as what's happening right now you can see that center of circulation right now continuing to approach the big bend area of florida but in that right front quadrant this is the most intense part of this hurricane. we're looking at multiple tornado warnings. when you get that change and direction with height that wind shear kind of spinning up some of those tornadoes. look at the spaghetti plots. you can see still trending farther to the east but don't really focus on that track because there is a wide range of uncertainty, however, you can see toward the ladder part of the time period here it's going to kind of stall just off of our coast and that will mean a long duration event we're talking coastal flooding. rip currents and also beach erosion for several days. so by saturday morning it's just off of cape hatteras. and then take a look. you can see it really slows do down. saturday night 8:00 p.m. a 60 miles per hour storm just to the south of our area and then by sunday it's still kind of meandering off of the coast. so here's the break down. minor impacts the farther north and west you head. moderate impacts along the i-95 corridor. major impacts once you move a little farther down the shore. beautiful for tomorrow but the rainfall chances really start to ramp up saturday into sunday across our area. and we're talking about maybe over 3-inches of rainfall especially down the shore philadelphia could see upwards of one to 2-inches before all is said and done. the seven day forecast once again tomorrow it's beautiful. but conditions deteriorate late saturday into sunday. the height of the storm slow clearing early next week and for labor day. we'll talk much more and have in depth analysis plus new computer models still coming in, iain, culling up. >> all right. scott, thanks. the timing of that storm has many people in our area wondering if they should just cancel their holiday weekend plans. fox 29' chris o'connell spoke to some people and business owners down the shore worried about the storm's impact. >> reporter: one of biggest weekends of the summer could be a washout with a tropical storm headed our way, a lot of weekend events going on down the shore like this major beach concert in atlantic city could be a wet one. call it the calm before the storm down the shore. hermine may be a ways way but the storm is all the buzz in cape may. many families trying to get the last days of summer before weekend washout. >> we're looking forward to celebrating her birthday on saturday. she's turning nine. >> and. >> there's a huge storm coming in so we're kind of bumped. >> reporter: as precaution came cape may lewes ferry scaled back service on saturday and sunday as travelers got a head start. >> i'm very worried. i live in beach community. >> we're not only just looking at, um, air, hurricanes we're looking at tides, we're always looking at wave heights. we look at everything that can affect travel report roar along the washington street mall, business is brisk, rain or shine, they plan to keep it that way. >> sometimes it wash out much sometimes it brings more people down. so it all depend on what actually curse. >> reporter: many lifeguards are warning swimmers if they go into the water wash out for those recent rip tides and emergency managers are telling anyone warrant in the murder of a 29-year-old father gunned down in front of his 12-year-old son. pierre, shot to death in front of a mantua haverford community center where he work as he left the building with his son. >> their with their kids. second incident that i heard that a young man with their kids, their kids that's under 18 last time they see they are father is a murder scene. like that is so hurtful. >> police say the crime was caught on surveillance cameras and also captured the victim's son kneeling over his dad screaming for help. police say johnson should be considered armed and dangerous. in atlantic city police are trying to determine why a gunman shot a man and then himself at a popular shopping center. it happened around noon at the store at the tanger outlets. the company now says the man killed was the store's manager. prosecutors have identified him as 26-year-old christopher romero. police say after he was shot the gunman, 56-year-old louis maze net went across the street and shot himself at another store. he's in critical condition. it's not clear why he opened fire. students and staff at rowan university are starting off new semester with a warning not to use any water that comes from any campus buildings. fox 29's shawnette wilson is live on the campus tonight. shawnette, this is all because of increased led levels. >> reporter: increased led and also iron levels in the water which is causing we're told the discoloration. in the meantime tonight students pick up bottled water provided to them free at the university. university officials say an employee first noticed the water in linden hall was discolor. over the past month the university performed tests on the water in that building. and on several others on the same water line. they say the tests found elevated levels of lead and iron in the water. >> i'm really concerned about it, because i brush my teeth with it this morning i forgot. >> reporter: staff held a meeting for students tonight after receiving the detailed e-mail with warnings and precautions they should take. officials say only five students came leading them to believe most are n. >> as of right now, we're still in the testing mode. so in the residence halls we've asked students don't drink the water and we're supplying them with water, so just bottled water to be able to brush their teeth and be able to cook. >> reporter: and back here live, officials say because lead isn't absorbed through the skin it is safe for the students to shower and also wash clothes in the campus water. back to you, iain. >> shawnette, thank. you decide 2016. hillary clinton taking a break from the campaign trail today. she's coming off a big month her campaign raised over $143 million in august. vice-president joe biden and clinton's running mate senator tim kaine spent the day stumping for former secretary of state. meanwhile the state department agreed today to turn over detailed schedules from clinton's time as secretary of state to the associated press. the schedule should be released by mid october. donald trump has a jam packed schedule tomorrow including a stop here in philadelphia. fox news confirming that he'll hold some kind of round table meeting. it's not clear where it will be yet. the gop nominee will also have a second national security briefing tomorrow in new york and he's scheduled to hold a rally in pensacola florida tomorrow night. controversy brewing to neat over a tattoo on the arm of philadelphia police officer. it's got some come to go officer's defense. let's get out to brad sattin at police headquarters with more on the story. brad? >> reporter: interesting story, iain. some are calling offensive. others say that it is just all a big misunderstanding it's been miss interpreted. what we know as of right now the officer actually didn't violate any policy and as a result of that we are not identifying him. angry calls poured into police today over an online article in the philly voice in which a picture was pulled from social media post that showed a philadelphia police officer with a tattoo appearing to dee fix an emblem nazi party eagle with the word fatherland. police are investigating. >> it is of concern in the sense that we have citizens that have interpreted this as meaning something that could be interpreted as offensive. >> reporter: head of the police union was quick to reject any inference that the officer was a neo nazi sympathizer claiming in fact he has jewish heritage and has never been accused of of making racist or anti semitic remarks. >> here's an officer a decorated officer of the he's been on the police force for -- on the department well over 17 years. he has exemplary record he's had this at too which is just an eagle for over a decade. >> reporter: anti defamation league is concerned but not rushing to judgment saying some nazi symbols have taken on other meanings these days. >> maybe it's not an nazi eagle it's just a german eagle. we don't know for sure. it's something that should be looked into. >> reporter: and so police still investigating this case and also looking into whether they need a policy for tattoos something, of course, the union police would not support. iain? >> all right, brad, thank you. statue stolen from church in port richmond is back where it belongs tonight. it was returned by a man who says he found it not very far from the church. the statue went missing yesterday from the mother of divine race it depicts jesus seated with children surrounding him. church officials say the theft was big loss because the statue is an important part of their parish. it was great news when someone saw it sitting outside the pizza shop where he works. >> it was sitting outside on a push cart and i saw it. this is nice. i was going to give it to somebody for their birth -- for they yard i seen it on the news. so i said i got to call and take it back. >> people come by all day long. they stopped at the statues. they pray. they ask for their needs, and when the statue went missing the other -- yesterday, it was really upsetting to the people in our parish, the kids in our school, the people in the neighborhood. and so such a happy day to have it returned. >> still not clear who took the statue. hurricane hermine threate threatening to your turn your holiday [ clock ticking ] live radar shows hurricane hermine barreling tore the florida gulf coast right now. but folks in florida aren't the only ones bracing for the storm. along the shore the coast guard is warning residents it could be a rocky weekend in the ocean. our sabina kuriakose has the preparations in ocean city. >> we've been waiting all summer. >> reporter: summer's last hoorah darkened by the storm clouds now bearing down. >> week ago the weather was really nice for this weekend. >> hurricane hermine projected to blast through the jersey store this labor day long weekend way force to whip up gusty winds and heavy rain. enough of a enough the coast guard is urging swimmers and boaters to brace themselves. not just along the shore but on rivers and other waterways. >> this weekend it could present difficult challenges depending. if you do plan on going out checking weather forecasts constantly and checking the surroundings and making sure you're doing the best you can. >> i'm not going in. i told my 15-year-old not to go because of rip tides. >> moms like maureen are heeding the warnings of rip tides and rough water. high waves and forceful curren currents. >> i don't let him go where there's no life garr. one adult with one kid holding the hand and not going very far. >> early birds watching the skies hoping hurricane hermine gives them reprieve. >> we'll watch your weather guys and see what they say. >> the most important thing according to the coast guard not to take any chances. if you plan to be out in the water or on the water keep an eye on warnings signs and don't wait until it's too late to get out and get to shore. in ocean city, is a bone in a kuriakose fox 29 news. here's live look at the radar right now. scott williams will be here in just few minutes tracking exactly when hermine will impact your weekend. you see it, you shoot it, our fresco users are helping us show you what's happening in your own neighborhood. so dawn, what's going on tonight? >> well, iain arc fresco user on the scene of this fire in ridley township right after crews arrived on the scene. take look. you can see some smoke coming out of the roof of this home along the 300 block of lawn ton. we're hearing the fire went to two alarms before firefighters got the smoke and names under control. still no word yet about any injuries. when you see news happening, be sure to take out your phone and shoot it and then make sure to use the fresco app to send it to our newsroom and make some cash as well. iain? >> dawn, thanks. in your money tonight for the first time since 1960 the nfl's annual draft will take place here in philadelphia. after two years in chicago, the three-day event will take place along the ben franklin parkway it's expected to draw more than 200,000 fans. the league will pick most of the costs to stage the draft. it's not clear yet how much if any tax dollars will be spent former eagles quarterback ron jaworski is an event co chairm chairman. >> about post pattern from here 80 years ago the first nfl draft was held. and guess what? we're back! we're back in philadelphia and we're back strong! >> ironically the eagles of course traded for quarterback carson wentz that cost them their first round pick in 2017 so as thing stand now they'll be watching the opening night selections. nice new haircut today for a lot of local kids and it's barely costing everything. everybody likes to get that fresh cut before they head back to school. children in point breeze got one for dollar. all thanks to the 17th district police station and the unisex hair design studio polling 17th street. >> we basically are giving kids the opportunity to come and get a haircut they really wouldn't be able to afford to get one. all they need is a dollar to come in here and get a good haircut, a soft pretzel an water ice. >> that's great idea and great thing. police officers also taking the time to talk with the local kids while they sat in the barbershop and got tie tend up. let's get back in with scott williams and the latest or hurricane hermine, scott. >> it's nearing landfall as category one hurricane. maximum sustained wind at 80 miles an hour movement to the north northeast about 14 miles an hour. so as we zoom a little farther up the coast tropical storm watches posted down the shore. that means winds could gust over 40 miles an hour for a part of the upcoming holiday weekend. so here's the latest 11:00 p.m. track from the national hurricane center. you can see by saturday morning just off of the cape hatteras but look at what happens saturday night, sunday night, even into monday night we're still talking about the remnant moisture from hermine and that center of circulation just kind of setting up shop meandering out to sea. so that will mean a long duration event says especially down the shore with major impa impacts a coastal flooding will be a concern around the high tied cycle for the upcoming weekend which will roughly be around 10am and 10:00 p.m. just keep that in mind. moderate concerns inland minor once you move far north and west look at several the latest computer models continuing to painly picture of three or more inches for parts of south jersey we're talking about cumberland county also atlantic county, cape may county moving no sussex county maybe an inch or two around the philadelphia area. so the bottom line down the shore on saturday, showers moving in during the afternoon. winds picking up gusting around the height of the storm on sunday to about 60 miles per hour. so take look at future wind gusts. you can see by saturday gusting up to 40, 50 miles an hour down the shore. little lull in the morning on sunday and then they ramp right back up gusting close to 60 miles per hour. so that extended forecast showing you the wind and the rain and we'll fine tune this forecast. sue serio will have the latest beginning tomorrow morning at 4:00 a.m. back to you. >> scott, thanks. a few bears enjoying the final days of summer in the pool. too bad the fun is someone's backyard in pasadena california after taking the dip the trio decided to roam the neighborhood, went on a scavenger hunt in dumpster. bear siting not unusual in southern california. all right, sean bell what's coming up in sports?
