lehigh county. 60 miles an hour wind gusts knocking over trailers outside a planter on brodhead road in bethlehem as the area deals with intense heater severe storms remain a threat. good evening i'm iain page. >> i'm lucy nolan. the temperature still in the high 80's. so let's get to chief meteorologist, scott williams. hot, hot hot and now we can see even more storms, scott. >> that's right lucy and iain today was a scorcher the hottest day so far this year. we tied the record high 95 degrees. you can see the record for today's date 95 degrees back in 1947 so the heat humidity fueled severe storms. you can see earlier this afternoon the evening we were watching isolated pop-up storms in the lehigh valley. this one moved through allentown and moved through the bethlehem area causing that damage. numerous trees blown down as well as some tractor-trailers at the warehouse there and also the roof off of the crayola building. we're continuing to follow some of the damage reports coming from that particular area but take a look. off to the far north and west we're watching another line of some gusty and even severe thunderstorms right now around the harrisburg area. this will weaken but it will be moving back towards sections of the lehigh valley as well as the pocono mountains. the threat is still there for some gusty winds as well as some downpours so we'll roll the clock and you can see by midnight back toward the pocono mountains back toward the lehigh valley we'll be watching for some potential gusty thunderstorms. by tomorrow morning it's warm and it's muggy but look at the temperatures right now. at 10 o'clock, 86 right now in philadelphia but it still feels like 91 degrees as we take a look at the feels-like temperatures along the i-95 corridor 88 is what it feels like right now in trenton it feels like 88 degrees currently in wilmington and 89 in dover. so, what about the upcoming weekend? it looks like hazy hot and humid conditions tomorrow. if we hit 90 it will be our first official heat wave. find out about cooler relief as well as more chances for showers and thunderstorms with the seven day coming up. back to you. >> scott just touched on it. more images from that industrial park in bethlehem. skyfox over the crayola warehouse. the storm hit just before 8 o'clock tonight and you can see how powerful it was pieces of roof pulled back and in some spots totally gone. bethlehem police as you can see are there right now. are most of us spent today trying to find someplace cool. but these taylor swift fans waited in line for hours in the blistering sun. they wanted to make sure they got as close as they could to the pop superstar when she hit the stage tonight. our shawnette wilson is live outside lincoln financial field. shawnette are t swift fans keeping cool now. >> reporter: that's a hard question to answer. obviously because it is still very hot right now talking about the weather but also from the sounds of it, it seems like taylor is putting on a pretty hot show inside. we can hear some of her music from the parking lot but overall it has been a long day for people battling the heat up until show time. >> ♪ >> reporter: an electric night inside the linc where taylor swift made a stop on her 1989 tour. it's what many fans waited in 90-degree plus temperatures for all day. and are still braving the heat for the show. >> because we really want to see her. we were waiting since december when we got the tickets. we've been real excited for a long time and now that it's here, you know, it is hot weather but expected to take the stage until 8:45 tonight. it is the hottest ticket in town and not even the heat could keep fans away. >> ♪ >> reporter: and back here live the show is still going on but we checked with philadelphia police a little bit ago and they say there have been no incidents so far. we specifically asked about heat related incidents so that's good news to report as fans are still inside. they're cheering right now. we can hear them. iain. >> shawnette thanks. philadelphia police are searching for two suspects who have ripped off local atm's for over 100 grand. bandits have hit three times already. they get in and out quickly and they're driving a high end luxury suv that's been spotted near the robbery scenes. fox 29's dave schratwieser is live at police headquarters tonight. dave these guys sound like pros. >> reporter: yeah, they do. they have some skills iain. they also have lots of taste for cash lots of cash and those high end vehicles police tell me they have a very specific set of skills and that leads them to believe they could have an inside connection. most people go to an atm to withdraw money the legal way with a pin number. philadelphia police are now tracking a pair of atm bandits with a pry bar and a unique set of skills. they go to atm's to make withdrawals, too, big withdrawals, so far almost $160,000: the bandits have struck three times, first at this stand alone citizens bank atm in the blue bell shopping center at 70th and grover in southwest philadelphia. they pride over the back door went insides and broke into the atm and took nearly 40 grand. >> very quick. they move in, they get out get the money rather quickly. we have some concerns about the skill level. >> reporter: just three days ago the robbers hit in overbrook park at this wells fargo atm in the 7500 block of haverford avenue. again they pride open he the door. once inside they cut a hole in the back of the atm and made off with 120 grand in cash. >> very good at what they do. they haven't been caught yet. they're operating between the hours of 2:00 in the morning and 5:00 in the morning. >> reporter: police are looking at companies that service the atm's and reload the cash. >> they could be a former employee of one of these companies that obviously have intimate knowledge of how to do this. >> has to be an inside job. how would you know where to cut, where to go, what time to do that, it has to be inside. >> reporter: police say these bandits have a sweet ride for a getaway vehicle jeanne clery which goes for a cool $65,000. >> someone knows it's not very few cars in the area. the car is silver. we think it operates in this area. >> people desperate. i mean, you know, what can you say? >> reporter: now police believe they tried to rob that citizens bank atm a second time but the atm had yet to be repaired and loaded with cash. investigators tell me they believe these guys are from southwest philadelphia and they will strike again. if you have any information you can call the police tip line. >> all right, that was dave schratwieser. thank you dave. shots fired during the day. now police need your help to find the shooter. the shooting happening just after 3:30 this afternoon on north 21st and west spencer street. the victim was dropped off at the hospital in a silver nissan with a gunshot wound his stomach. police are looking for that car along with a light blue minivan. >> the woman who helped two convicted killers escape is in prison herself. with a misdemeanor of criminal facilitation. she befriended inmates richard matt and david sweat at the clinton correctional facility. those two men are still on the run. >> joyce mitchell represents just one fraction of the investigation. we have extensive resources in our bureau of criminal investigation and our federal counterparts and we're going down every road in following every lead to its completion. >> mitchell could face more charges once authorities track down the escapees. >> tragedy in north philadelphia. a woman unable to escape her burning home this morning now an entire community is coming together to offer prayers and support. fox 29 weekend's karen hepp has more on a sad day in somerton. >> reporter: the heart wrenching call no one ever wants to make, a pain so deep all the hugs in the world doolittle to comfort that sadness. a grieving family after this deadly house fire killed a 45-year-old woman and critically injured her 75-year-old mother. her father escaped but is in shock, so many lives devastated a community in disbelief. what goes through your mind today. you were just speaking to her yesterday and now she's gone. >> it's really sad. i just saw her yesterday and she's gone now. >> it's really sad. >> her daughter would walk -- always out walking the dog. >> reporter: investigators say that dog did die in the blaze. there were no working smoke detectors and the family may have been trying to tackle the fire themselves. >> preliminary investigation indicates that they may have been trying to fight the fire. there was a lot of smoke damage throughout the property. most of the fire on the first floor. when the members first arrived there wasn't a lot of fire, just a lot of heavy heat and smoke so that tells us the fire was burning for awhile and it started to burn itself out. so smoke alarms, an escape plan and get out stay out. >> reporter: he fire prevention came back out to the block this afternoon going door to door to install free smoke detectors. they are always available by battery. the latests for 10 years. >> reporter: karen hepp, fox 29 news. >> federal officials are saying chinese hackers have stolen more confidential information about u.s. government employees than initially thought. authorities believe those a hackers may have accessed standard form 86. if you want a job with the u.s. government you have to fill one of these things out. it includes everything from medical information to list of relatives to social security numbers. so, what does that mean. a counter intelligence official says the chinese now have the identities of almost everybody who has a united states security clearance. officials say between nine and 14 million records are now compromised. >> when is your iphone not really a iphone. a local woman buy as refurbished store and crews cleaning up a sticky mess in bloomsburg new jersey. a tanker truck crashed and spilled maple syrup on i-78. no one was hurt but the area was closed for several hours. >> rescue tonight for more than 30 cats and kittens trapped in this heat in a home in newtown square. neighbors say this was the end result of hoarding. animal rescuers got to those cats and can kittens in the nick of time saved them and now as our dawn timmeney shows us those cute little guys need forever homes. >> put two traps over there. >> reporter: this is video shot a couple days ago by rags to ridges animal rescue as they try to trap and catch more than two dozen kittens and about 15 adult cats from what can only be described as a house of horror. garbage and cat feces strewn everywhere. >> they were living in the floor boards and the basement. you can barely walk in the basement the smell of ammonia takes over. we had respirators on. it was gruesome. >> reporter: they're up in the ceiling. the rescue learning of the hoarding situation at this house on ferry street in newtown square after the man who lived here for years had to suddenly move. the property which belonged to his mom sold at sheriff's sale and all of the cats left behind. >> i would be out cutting the grass and you'd see a face, a cat face every once in awhile pop up and i had no clue that there were that many more behind the scenes. >> reporter: neighbor john says occasionally he would notice a strong odor coming from the property but never ever imagined what was inside. >> really not a bad person. nice guy. would help out and, you know, i guess it's just one of those things that got ahead of him you know, and just got out of control. >> reporter: fortunately these three kittens are safe and sound and being properly fed and cared for now. all need homes. they appear healthy and are adapting although they are a little shaken. >> the cats are all scared. they don't know what's going on. their world has been turned upside down. >> i have foster homes for about eight of them and we'll try and adopt them out. >> reporter: they're adorable. dawn timmeney fox 29 news. >> a reward to solve a case of animal abuse. the images may be disturbing to see. a good samaritan found this female dog dumped in a basket weighing only 25 pounds. she was found tuesday in the juniata section of philly. now she's in the land of lee low's promise animal rescue group and they have named her nanny. a group is offering a 400-dollar reward. we have posted all contact information for lee low's proms on our web site. a delaware couple is accused of using social media to sell booze. investigators say eric perez put this post on facebook offering to deliver alcoholic drinks in dover for $10. an agent with the delaware division of alcohol and tobacco enforcement set up a buy and perez was arrested. the 32-year-old april bailey was also charged. >> rock and roll icon just took that phrase break a leg to a whole new level. that is exactly what foo fighters front man dave groll did in sweden today. he was on stage when one wrong move sent him over the edge. he told the crowd just broke my leg. he promised to come back and perform another town. turns out the crowd didn't have to wait that long. his crew carried him back out on stage and he actually finished that show broken leg and all so that whole show must go on thing apparently right there right then. in gloucester county police are not happy about a student project on display. >> the students were ordered by school officials to take it down. as bill anderson reports on what starter off as a project about community relations has turned into a social media firestorm. >> reporter: students at clearview regional high school were doing a humanities project that also has some discussion on police brutality and featured a collage with an image with raised hands and the words hands up don't shoot. when the police union found out about it they wrote a strongly worded letter causing the display offensive an ridiculous display and asking for it to be removed. the superintendent had the display taken down which lunged a community and social media debate about appropriate lessons versus freedom of speech. the students responded by having a sit in to show their support for their teacher and also the question why high school students don't have the right to discuss controversial topics. >> i don't feel that it needs to be taken down the i think it is a freedom of speech issue. >> i don't think it's fair to be bashing on the police that help our town every single day. >> as long as administration and the teachers were guiding these children through this, it's creating a conversation, not necessarily sparking outrage. >> reporter: students that i spoke to off camera made it clear that they were not protesting the police. they were just standing up for freedom of speech but the superintendent issued a statement saying that the images were taken down and now it's time for the community to move on. interest the guys, the superintendent who i was told would be unavailable for comment was mysteriously available to approach me twice at a local convenience store and let me know that my presence in the area and my line of questioning was not appreciated. the students say that they are not antipolice. they just than 150 philadelphia properties hit the auction block today. fisher auction company is handling today's event on market street. up for grabs about 160 city owned properties in south philadelphia and kensington. many of them small single lots. they ranged in price between $2,400 to $52,000. organizers say auctioning them off helps improve local neighborhoods and generates revenue for the city. >> above the store front on the 6400 block of woodland avenue. witnesses say it collapsed around 6:00 this morning. no one was hurt but three people living in building are being helped by the red cross >> property owners move away or pass away. then their home falls into disrepair. bruce gordon has more on what's become a frustrating tale in southwest philadelphia. >> reporter: the weather beaten sign at the corner of 61st and washington speaks to the past glory of this neighborhood. the horticultural society's greenest block award four years running but that was nearly 30 years ago before a single home took the life out of this southwest philly oasis. there it is mid block a ram shackled connected twin with waist high weeds vacant and falling app parter. neighbors say they've called the city repeatedly with nothing show for it. >> we called license and inspection and told them about it and they're like unless the house is going the fall down there's nothing they can do about it. we're tired of it. >> reporter: frustrated neighbors say the old owners of the place passed away many years ago and left the home to their children. for awhile there was some effort at maintenance. when that effort ended neighbors picked up the slack. the neighbors said she paid to have the backyard weeds cut down. they're on their way back. it's dangerous too. >> a lot of time the front door is opened. you never know what somebody can go in there and start a fire or anything can happen. they're young children in this neighborhood. >> reporter: and families who have lived here most of their lives. they tend to their homes and plant flowers and generally take pride in there block and they must put up with this weeds, trash and dangers as their long time neighbor. >> this is horrible but you want to -- would you want to live on this block? no. if i wasn't living on this block now i would never move here. so, we need help. somebody's got to help us. >> reporter: so, the city couldn't or wouldn't do anything about the situation. it took me about 15 minutes to track down the husband and wife owners of that vehicle cant home. icant -- vacant home. she admitted there was no excuse and record high set back in 1947 of 95 degrees. it's still pretty hazy, hot and humid outdoors right now and earlier this evening we were tracking some scattered showers and thunderstorms that popped up especially in the lehigh valley. it caused some tree damage, knocked over some tractor-trailers in sections of northampton county likely just from those winds that were gusting in excess of 60 miles per hour there. we'll keep you posted but otherwise, you can see another line of some strong gusty thunderstorms moving into the pocono mountains and some of this is weakening right now but it might make it right back toward the allentown as well as the bethlehem area and also some of this might move into northern sections of berks county. not severe right now but certainly a rumble of thunder as well as some downpours briefly over the next couple of hours especially far north and west. here's midnight. you can see it towards the pocono mountains and diminishing. for saturday it's hazy, hot and humid maybe a couple of pop-up afternoon and evening thunderstorms. if we hit 90 tomorrow, it will make a heat wave official across our area. then for your sunday we'll keep some clouds around, cooler and maybe once again a pop-up shower or storm but look at the numbers 86 degrees right now. factor in that humidity it feels like 91 at this hour, 84 in trenton, 83 in wilmington and as you take a look along the i-95 corridor still feeling like the upper 80's and low 90's but take a look, off to the north and west some cooler air only in the 50. right now 56, in detroit it's not going to get that cool. however you'll notice a little more relief for the second half of the weekend. so your saturday planner those temperatures are going to climb back into the upper 80's. once again if we hit 90 that would make the heat wave official and then as we take a look at tonight it's warm, it's muggy scattered clouds watching for a rumble of thunder north and west late tonight. 90 for the high temperature tomorrow hazy, hot and humid maybe a pop-up shower or storm. down the shore warm conditions 80's for your saturday. don't forget that sunscreen. sunday 77 degrees. water temperature still you bought it. they send you to apple and it's a fake and you're left holding the bag. doesn't sound right, does it? the fox 29 investigates. here's jeff cole. >> she did that in like seconds. >> reporter: amber martinez spotted an early black friday deal on line and clicked to get a surprise gift for her daughter. the single mother wanted a way to stay in touch. she got a certified preowned apple iphone 5 from t mobile. t mobile calls these new to you phones. 11-year-old divanna had been asking for an iphone. >> when i got it for christmas i was actually happy and i didn't know she was going to give it to me and i was thankful that she got it for me. >> reporter: the used smartphone brought more surprises than mom expected. the $348 device which she financed was kept in a protective case insured and worked fine for a few months. >> and it started to get hot and not charge. the screen at the top left-hand corner separated. >> reporter: amber called t mobile. >> they said that if i sent back a broken phone, i'd have to pay for it. >> reporter: at a t mobile store the employees told her to go to the apple store. but there was a hitch. >> she asked me for the imei number that should be located on the back of the phone and it wasn't there. so she said your iphone is the only one in the universe that doesn't have that number. i said i guess so because it's not here. >> reporter: eventually amber got to apple. >> they took the phone in the back about five minutes later he comes out the representative with my phone and tells me that unfortunately he can't fix the phone. and i asked why. and he said because it's not a real apple phone. >> reporter: the apple store wrote out on this document what the problems were. the iphone had several fake parts including the enclosure and display. there were signs of unauthorized modifications and heavy use and liquid damage, plus that tracking number was missing from the back plate. not only was t mobile's 90 day new to you warranty expired, but no apple warranty applied either, because it wasn't a new phone or refurbished by them. apple refused to repair it. amber was so upset she contacted police and called back t mobile. >> they said regardless of where it comes from you're certifying it as a real apple phone. i'm expecting it to be a real apple phone and i found out that it's not because a real apple company won't fix it. >> reporter: police tell us it's a civil matter and they referred amber to some places to get help. t mobile shipped out another phone but when it, too had no tracking number on the back plate, amber returned both phones. then the company sent a new iphone 5s but a $400 billing charge appeared for replacing a phone that wasn't under warranty. by then, amber had contacted fox 29 investigates for help. t mobile told us that care teams were working with the customer to find a solution specifically for her. the company first told us it works with certified repair vendors to ensure preowned devices just work haven't only genuine parts. a long list of checks t mobile makes before you can get your phone but no mention of the parts it puts in there. t mobile says it does not authorize the use of nonapple parts in iphone repairs but the company tells us its new to you warranty states that refurbished or substitute parts may be used. we pointed out that customers would only learn of this after purchase. a spokesperson says they have 14 days to return the phone if not satisfied. >> any time you're buying used electronics you really have to watch. >> reporter: tech expert and fox 29 news contributor anthony morning luz so was taken a back by amber's story. >> it's surprising that it's an official t mobile certified product. >> reporter: he says there are lots of places to buy preowned phones but you have to beware. make sure it's certified, look it over and compare it to in-store models, pop the battery, if you can. ask about the warranty and return policy. buy with a credit card for added protection and almost always take the insurance. but he believes companies should disclose if they're using third-port parts. >> give the consumer a chance to make a decision. don't tell you it's a certified preowned phone because to me that means it's going have all the original parts. >> reporter: divana wound up going a few weeks without her phone. now she's back to using kick, snapchat instagram in touch with fans and ready to take lots of summer vacation photos and amber after lots of phone calls and going between stores she's ready for the hassle to end. >> it's just taken up a lot of my time. >> reporter: that $400 charge has now disappeared from amber's bill. meanwhile, t mobile has offered several hundred dollars towards a new device or savings on her
