water. life guards at ocean city were fending off an attack on the 4th of july. thanks for joining us. i'm iain page >> i'm lucy noland. it turned to family friendly atmosphere on independence day to an all-out brawl. let's get to chris o'connell live in ocean city. >> reporter: if you know ocean city, you know, it's a dry town does not sell alcohol and known for family friendly severe. all of that changed yesterday. during a drunken beach brawl that landed five guys in jail. fox 29 obtained exclusive video of the 4th of july beach melee in ocean city where police say their own officers and life guards were assaulted. part of the video you see in ocean city police officer on the bottom of the pile. >> big scene on the beach, 4th of july weekend and this is ocean city, we're dry, we don't tolerate alcohol in public. >> reporter: but it was alcohol ocean city police say fueled a rowdy groups of friends at eight and and the beach when life guards tried to quiet them down, they were assault by several men. when police were called, they too got into the tussle. the chaos left beach goers stunned >> my parents lived 30 years never seen anything like it >> holy and steve on a week's vacation had a front row seat to the late afternoon beach brawl. >> they had no respect for life guards, police, they don't deserve ton the beach. >> reporter: one is seeing escaping from police and running into the wonder less than peer before being arrested >> the policemen came, wrestled them to the ground and punching then he took off, and running through the dunes. >> reporter: fox 29 has learned the guy seen running away is 26-year-old jay roach of harrisburg, he was arrested two weeks ago in dolphin county on drug charges. four other men from harrisburg and philadelphia were also cite ford assault. disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. police want to send a clear message about messing with life guards. >> their ability and job is to save the people in the water. we tied up a lot of life guards for this incidents for a few rowdy people and jeopardiesed safety of others on the beach. >> reporter: well, luckily, none of those police officers or life guards were injured. all five of those men most of them in their 20's were issued citations and released. >> thank you. flames ripped through a center city apartment building tonight investigators trying to figure out how this started. it took firefighters about an hour to get it under control. at the 12 story apartment building on 13th and walnut. it started on the second floor before 7:30, no one is hurt. police in philadelphia are looking for the person responsible for breaking into and robbing a burger king at gunpoint, it was not the most sophisticated crime >> now police are trying to link it to another robbery at another fast food joint. just a few hour later. dave schratweiser is live in west philadelphia. dave. >> reporter: philadelphia police trying to link a robbery at this mcdonald at 56th and vine with that robbery at the burger king in haverford where the suspect crawled through the drive-through window and the suspect is on the loose. >> breaking in the drive-through window and crawling inside to commit a gunpoint robbery isn't exactly on the menu at this burger king in haverford. this armed suspect decided to have it his way. >> whatever it takes to get in and get it. they will do it >> i just can't imagine my heart breaks for them. it's very traumatic. >> it happened just as the burger king on west chester pike closed for the night. the doors were locked so the bandit picked you wanted a rock and threw it through the drive-up window. >> i'm glad nobody was hurt. that's the whole thing, forget about the money. >> i think it's a disgrace and i think we're seeing it more and more in this area. >> reporter: the gunman clearly wasn't looking for a whether or noter and fridays. police say he dragged and forced terrified employees to the rear of the burger king at gunpoint and ripped out the cash register drawer the suspect wore a white bandana and gloves. he escaped out the back door with an unknown amount cash. regular customers weren't too pleased to hear about the drive-through heist >> i'm not shocked. it's everywhere you go. it's just the way it is. >> they're in there trying to do a good job, trying to make a living. somebody comes in and breaks a window and threaten them. it's a disgrace. >> reporter: now, no one was injured at either of the two robberies. philadelphia police tell me they're refusing surveillance video from the mcdonald's to see if it's the same suspect. >> thank you. when freddy kruger shows up, it's never good, a couple of robbery forced employees into back room. the weapons, well, the woman had large kitchen knife with a 12 inch blade. the guy? just look, he's wearing a freddy kruger type glove and these are real blades. at the qudoba on old york road, they got away with cash. the retrial for dad accused of killing his 3-year-old son. jurors couldn't reach a verdict in the first trial, ended in a mistrial in may after five days of deliberations. the prosecution argued that creato killed the boy because he was interfering in his relationship with a teenager girl, he maintains his son brendan walked away from his october in october of 15. brendan's body was found about a mile away. it has happened again, we've seen it here in philadelphia. and dallas and now new york city again. officers ambushed in cold blood. a 12 year veteran of the new york city police department and her killer both dead. the mayor says he assassinated her while on duty. officials call it a cold blooded murder and the latest in a series of attacks on police officers. fox lisa evers has more from new york. >> reporter: tears are being shed by both public and police as they mourn the loss of a dedicated police officer. this single mother of three was just doing her duty when she made the ultimate sacrifice. >> reporting shots. >> reporter: the neighbor unfolded after midnight at east 183rd street in the bronx. 48-year-old police officer miosotis familia was writing a report inside a mobile command truck when 34-year-old x con alexander bonds went up to the window and shot her in the head. he was caught up with a block away >> as they confronted him, he drew a revolver, the officers struck and killed him. a assault rifle revolver was recovered >> officer famila was 12-year veteran of the nypd and mother of three children, two in elementary school. commissioner o'neill says although she had no prior involve with bonds, her murder was deliberate >> it is clear this was an a nonprovoked attack on police officers who were assigned to keep the people of this great city safe. >> reporter: bonds had an extensive criminal record that included an assault on a police officer with brass knuckles and a social media footprint of ant anti-cop relevant. the tributes to continued to grow and many were too i'm sure to speak >> i time you lose someone that you work with that's close to you, you know, it's like losing a sibling >> that was a good morning, worker and giving to the community, a good cop. >> reporter: the scene and feelings of senseless loss are all too familiar since pba president pat lynch >> this kind of violence against police officers cannot stand, we need the public's help. when you see someone that's making threats, doing something against police officers, you need to let us know. you need to be our eyes and ears. >> reporter: the law enforcement community is viewing the assassination of the officer as part of a growing and disturbing national trend where more and more officers are being ambushed in uniform. attorney general jeff sessions said this has to stop. i'm lisa evers fox 29 news. two brothers charged with killing a philadelphia policeman may face the death penalty. a judge just ruled that prosecutors will be able to seek capitol punishment in the death of sarge robert wilson iii. prosecutors say carlton hips and ramon williams shot the officer two years ago in north philly when they tried oh robbing a video game store. a bucks county community is devastated after a house fire claims the life of their neighbor. it's even more tragic she made it out alive but went in to try and get her dog >> that decision cost her her life. something that many who have pets understand. fox 29 joyce evans has more from bensalem. >> humbling. been thinking about it all day. you know, she passed she more than lost her life how easy that could really happen to anyone of us. >> reporter: neighbor michael edwards couldn't believe the devastation playing out in front of his house on the 2700 block of june avenue in bensalem but at least the owner, his wife and his elderly mom were out of harm's way. >> one dog came out the front. another dog was staying in the house tabwas trying to coax her to come out. >> reporter: in the seconds it took him see he was kind of in shock. then i think when he found the news out that his wife did not make it, he just lost it. >> reporter: 39-year-old tabatha seen on her facebook page couldn't bear to see her frightened beloved dog run back into the flames alone. >> i came out and -- just --. >> reporter: it cost her her life. so many pet owners understand why she did it. >> they love their pets they want to go in after their pets, her dogs were everything >> we tell people once your out, stay out. you got to stay out. >> one dog that did survive is being cared for by the animal advocate group red paws. the family members were treated for minor injuries, the red cross is helping them. the fire is under investigation. joyce evans fox 29. he plays taps out of a speaker from his home every night. this man, howard white served overseas for decades only but to come home and have his life taken. >> the hurt, heart broken. word can't describe pain that i feel arrival. >> reporter: 47-year-old howard white. a disabled marine veteran killed a week ago. military veterans who didn't know him showed up after hearing what happened. >> speak volumes to what type of man he was, you know, you got people that's willing to do any and everything. barely even knew him. that right there tells you what type of caliber of man he was. >> reporter: he has been hailed a heroly he was at a neighborhood bar on north 5th street when police say he was shot to death trying to intervene when another man began causing a disturbance with others. surveillance video captured white and others leaving the bar behind the suspect. >> he is not here but his spirit is still present in that, you know, just recognizing him as a hero we're thankful for that. >> reporter: he was known as moodles served his country more than two decades until hurt in a tank explosion. had he only been home a month and a half when he was killed. duane peel also a military veteran said howard was his best friend. >> it's really going to be hard my friend is gone. he would give you the shirt off his back. you ask he'll give. >> reporter: michelle holland said her cousin taught her to experience the world paid for her to go to london and poland when she was just 18. >> he got this from i think yo pea when he went, i'll always carry this and loved to travel. >> reporter: he will be buried at washington crossing cemetery with a full military salute. police suspected last night about remains found inside a child-size casket in philadelphia were confirmed tonight. the medical examiner says it was, in fact, em bombed organs inside the casket neighbors made the discovery monday night on the 3,000 block of west clearfield. it is unclear where the coffin or its contents came from. the york county man who broadcasts taps each night is threatening to take legal action. naval officer josh corn knee wants to overturn a rule. we told you about the rule that limits taps to sundays and some holidays. his lawyers say they will take action if the borrow doesn't reverse the rule. a cease and desist order against him is unconstitutional. a snake roaming the streets of the city. what would you do if you saw a massive snake have much to say but he has a whole south philadelphia neighborhood talking. >> it didn't scare me. i was like, kind of shocked. >> reporter: margot says she woke up early this morning to find the snake in a neighbor's garden. her son told her it was also on her front steps at one point >> it ain't coming in to me, i ain't worried about it. >> reporter: the care and control team took care of the 12 pound serpentine which they named pet unia. >> we don't see pythons this large, we see a couple of month but never this big. this pretty unusual. >> he's in good condition. friendly >> turns out us owner said the snake might have slithered out of the house since his door was left open >> surprised by all the attention. not surprised he really got out. he's usually out in the house sometimes. so just he got out of the actual house. i can't really say it's surprising. >> reporter: neighbors had no idea the snake lived on the block but they know now. >> i've been on this block over 40 years. it was kind of new and then again it wasn't new. always something going on tasker street. >> reporter: act philly says it is legal to own a snake as a pet in the city of philadelphia as >> no idea. no word on the extent of those injuries and there's still trying to figure out how that fire started. >> happening right now, a lot of concern tonight in bucks county over horses that neighbors worry are starving and they say the horses are getting skinny. police in bucks county spca are now involved and trying to figure out what happened to these horses. fox 29's dawn timmeney has the story from bedminster township. >> basically skin on bones. hide on bones. very thin. >> stephanie of mountain view horse rescue is extremely concerned about the well-being of these horses on sweet briar road and spruce in bedminster township. she says they've been in bad shape for months. >> it's clear that they have not been fed properly over a period of time. and now the end result is this in that they are on death's door. >> reporter: owners did not want to talk to us and a no trespassing sign has been placed at the end of the driveway. bed men stir police chief mark, saw the horses first hand today. he admits they are extremely thin but says the owner claims she is trying to seive them. >> she said these were rescued from race track and that they were very ill. >> reporter: the bucks county spca tells me it is well aware of the situation and has been working with the owners adding it takes time for horses in this condition to put on weight. police reiterating all the proper steps are being taken. >> the animals are being watched. they're being checked. we have verified their fed and watered, that the spca is involved, and veterinarian is involved. >> reporter: concerned neighbors and horse lovers fear time is running out for these five horses and bucks county spca needs to be more diligent before it's too late. >> i've expressed to them in the time frame that will go by before their next visit most likely there's two horses back there that very well could die. so then what? i think immediate action needs to take place. >> reporter: the mountain view horse rescue wants the animals seized immediately. so far there's no indication when or even if that will happen. the bucks county. spca only saying it is an open investigation and that it is continuing to follow up. dawn timmeney, fox 29 news. ♪ following breaking news right now. fox news is reporting that representative steve scalise is back in intensive care tonight. doctors at med star washington hospital center downgraded his condition from fair to serious saying it contracted an infection. scalise was shot last month during a softball practice congressional game -- baseball game. one of five people hurt when the gunman opened fire. that gunman was killed. >> a mystery in upper macungie township. lehigh county coroner's office and state police are trying to figure out how a 58-year-old woman died in her home at the fairways at brook side condominiums. authorities found her body just past 8:00 this morning. an autopsy is set for tomorrow. you know, drivers around here pay a lot of tolls between the bridges and turnpikes. >> new jersey driver though is in some trouble because he owes 27,000 bucks in tolls. >> how does that happen. >> right. >> i don't know. >> the newark guy stopped this morning because he didn't pay a toll on the george washington bridge in fort lee. that 27,000 he owes fees added up and of course the $15 toll to get across this morning he didn't pay. >> wow! >> all righty then. so do you owe perhaps anything to the pennsylvania turnpike because there's an amnesty program?
