Live from center city in philadelphia this is fox 29 news at ten. 10 00 oclock and your fox 29 Weather Authority is tracking some storms barreling through our area. Radar as you can see very busy right now. And lets take live look in allentown right now. Some downpours moved in through the area over the past hour. You may have heard a rumble of thunder, also, and we are not quite out of the woods just yet. Thanks for joining us tonight at 10 00. Im chris oconnell. Im dawn timmeney. Weekend off to soggy and really humid start a lot act to the north and west and rumbles into thunder as you get into the allentown section. Its quick downpours the theme as you get into Chester County this is moving off towards the east at around 20 miles an hour. So in center city, we are going to get wet. Manayunk will pick up some very heavy downpours in the next 40 minutes or so you get towards the north right around, say, Hopewell Junction and into northern Mercer County theyre seeing just kind of a scattering of showers. The there is a flood advisory as you get to the north and to the west of the city. Flood advisory until 11 15 for berks, lehigh and northampton counties and there is more rain to come unfortunately. Look at the rainfall to the north and west about half an inch to an inch and a half in some of these cells. Now the big show is down to the south. Lets take look. The remnants of cindy is now sitting across the tennessee valley. To northeast kick and we are going to get socked with rain as we get into the overnight hours. Look at High Resolution future cast. Were going to stop around 1 00 oclock in the morning after midnight we are getting soaked with rape and with this rain comes the idea of some isolated flooding and maybe even some lightning and look how this all just takes over the area through 5 00 oclock into 7 00 oclock in the morning and its out of here by the tail end of the morning on saturday. So we do have this risk for Severe Weather here in the philadelphia area southwest jersey and into central pennsylvania through the overnight hours. Speaking of Severe Weather the long term effects of super storm sandy and other noreasters still being felt tonight. Crews are being sand dunes at the jersey shore to slow down all that beach erosion but not everybody is happy about it. Fox 29s dave kinchen is live in ventnor tonight with more. Dave . Reporter dawn a lot of people worry that this work will simply mess up the summer fun on the beache beaches so many peope telling the project organizer to month pound sand. Weve lot of tons of space and theres its going get worse. Irene has spent most of her life in a home very close to the beach that runs along ventnor and margate city. She is less than thrilled about having to look at all of the sand dune Construction Equipment for most of the summer. As soon as they start pumping sand, then they do it 24 hours a day and youll have the noise of the machine and nobody where is anybody going to go on the beach. Officials say the army corps of engineers project has been Long Time Coming giving back what Mother Nature has taken away. As the project moves down the beach, and replenishes, 200 to 300 feet into the ocean which is which is a huge gain for the beaches that eroded over time since sandy and other noreasters. Ventnor Public Safety commissioner says the dune construction was shut down three blocks with a beach at a time in sections running through the first part of august. And many worry it will leave summertime beach goers high and dry. It doesn make me feel good when i see this. Ive been in margate since 19 my grandparents house 1938 wouldnt never had a dune on this beach. Ventnor Officials Say have no fear. Its really not a catastrophe for our summer. Weve got restaurants, beaches, events like our movies on the beach here every monday night. Many longtime ventnor residents even think its their dog dollars working on something positive. I think its a good idea. They took a beating in the summer with the storm. Thats good. Im glad. Im glad theyre doing it. Reporter after crews finish pot correct here in ventnor, by august theyll switch over to margate city and then longport after that. Back to you. All right, dave. Staying down the shore now, the bridge connecting two popular shore towns is back open once again. The Townsends Inlet bridge connecting Sea Isle City and avalon reopened today. It was closed for the past two and half months. So the crews could repair one of the bridge supports. Good news for beachgoers this weekend. And developing story tonight on a missing person that has Hurt Community on high alert. She is an 80yearold woman with dementia and wednesday afternoon she just wandered off. It has been nearly three days since she was last scene. And friends and family are obviously desperate to find her. Shawnette net wilson has more from moorestown, n. Shawnette. Reporter we stopped by the familys house this afternoon the victims caught said they have no comment and referred to us police. But neighbors tell me they are worried about this woman who they describe as sweet. They say she loves flowers and visiting friends here in the neighborhood. Flyers are plastered around town as the search for her intensify. Its very upsetting. Were all concern. Reporter her neighbors around this house she lives in with her son and daughter on cottage avenue are devastated. We check like the back of our yard and our shed. Anywhere that she may have been. Reporter police say her son and daughter say she walked away from the House Wednesday afternoon. There was a storm that evening. They had last seen her about 3 00 oclock an neighbor who was driving by apparently saw her in the driveway around 3 30. Reporter police, fire crews and k9 searching a 2mile radius ever since including this area around straw bridge lake. Theyve called in support Police Concerned about the time she has been gone. The heat and the possibility of more storms. Theyve had thrave eighty six count here twice with a helicopter and weve since had the Emergency Management bureau down along with task force one. Search and rescue people. Reporter Ronald Lundgren is a longtime neighbor. Very nice, religious, sweet lady. Reporter he says her son called him immediately after she went missing and he wept looki looking. I just come out of the house. I didnt even have i just put shoes on, no socks, jumped in my truck and started riding around for hours. Familiar members tell them she has never walk off before. Police say they dont suspect foul play at this time. Hopefully, upping, shes maybe in a shelter or something. Reporter and police say she left with her purse but so far theres been no activity on her credit card. They also say that recently the victim has mentioned that she is quote going home. Tonight Police Identified a teenager who was killed in a bad car accident in hunting park. Police say jose cologne died yesterday afternoon when his car lost control. He was 18 years old. Police say a car was driving to pass his on whitaker and erie avenues when the crash happened. It is still under investigation tonight. Tonight Philadelphia Police are searching for a 13yearold girl who has been missing since monday take look at her 13yearold yanan petty last seen on the 2100 block of venango street in nicetown. And today someone who allegedly gave the District Attorney gifts tock the stand. Reporter Authorities Say this crew has struck at least four times in Delaware County and philadelphia. Each time targeting asian business openers. Sometimes at home, and sometimes at work. Its just scary knowing that they walked in to our home, you know, they broke into our home. Reporter mark kims family feels like theyve been violated after a fourman crew of burglars broke into their Delaware County home. Then the Family Business in southwest philadelphia. Theyre having trouble just dealing with, you know, the pain of losing a lot of money arc lot of their goods, a lot of jewel jewelry. Reporter kim owns the house of cheese deli a few feet from Police District on woodland avenue in southwest. The burglars ransack his home in marple township one day, then hit the business the next. Anything from lunch meet to cigarettes to cash, change. That we have, that we store. We think theyre watching on surveillance and have their habits down pretty well the only good thing that comes from this theyre going in there when the people are home. Reporter Surveillance Video shows suspects wore gloves but no masks or disguises. Theyre not camera shy and theyre ambitious. The burglary crew cut a path of crime from Delaware County to philadelphia. We believe we can attribute four different burglaries to this group so far. We dont know actually they committed at this point. Its just really messed with our lives really. Reporter vest gathers from the county and philadelphia believe the four suspects may be in the philadelphia area. They hope someone will recognize them and contact investigators. I dont want this to happen to anybody else. Reporter investigators say sometimes this crew is cut off power to the homes hoping to disable the surveillance cameras. In other cases theyve simply ripped out the surveillance cameras but investigators got lucky. Some of the video had been up loaded to the cloud. In university city, Dave Schratwieser, fox 29 news. Coming up, imagine driving down the road and seeing this, a woman screaming for help as she clings to the front of a fastmoving car. And a meeting over philadelphias controversial soda tax canceled. The reason the rowdy crowd that showed up in support of the tax. And diners along the Delaware River watching a lot more than the ships go by. How about a deer and they got to witness the entire rescue thanks to some quick acting philly co cops. The customers from the chart house were out on the balcony and they all applauded for us. The story behind the wild rescue is next. Unusual rescue to say the least on the Delaware River last night. A deer somehow found its way into a muddy area on the river and couldnt get out. But had to get stuck it couldnt have found a better spot to get stuck. Fox 29s brad sattin has more on this rescue for us tonight. Brad. Reporter tell you what, chris, a good spot lots of people saw it and called for help. The deer likely slipped somewhere around the ben franklin bridge. Now on which side of the river no one knows but what they do know the deer was stuck in the mud with its head above water but high tide was fast approac approaching. I had two guests say, oh my gosh, look theres a baby deer swimming in the river. Reporter not exactly swimming a deer swept by the current right past the din are in crowd at the chart house thursday night. His little head he was just bopping. Ive been here six years since a lot of trash floatin flg down the delaware. Reporter but never a deer. Amber pulled out her cell phone when he got lodged in pilings and stuck in the mud. The philadelphia ma Police Marine unit after people started calling. I thought id be laughed off of 911 where they say look weve got more important things to do. Reporter the 911 dispatcher got help in a hurry. The water just three a half feet deep but not for long. It was just when the tide was coming in. So the water was getting higher and higher. Totally helpless and crazy thought, ill go out there and help it no, ill get stuck in the mud this is a bad idea. Reporter four officers with marine unit had to move fast. It was grunting. It was shivering. Shaking. Reporter few times it look like they nearly pulled the deer out to the excitement of spectators. Get him. They got him. [ applause ] hes almost there. But they never gave up. When we pulled up the deer was had freed himself but he was swimming around and actually swam underneath part of a broken done peer at which time we were able to snare him with dog noose and safely bring him on board. Reporter he was okay. Wrapped in blanket. The officers then with a quick photo. There was a selfie involved. Trying to promote the good work of the officers that were involved with this. Reporter the deer then released into the woods farther down river. We were all watching and we were worried we were going to watch the deer drown and so when it came out alive it was great. Reporter needless to say these kinds of animal rescues dont happen very often but they are not unheard of. The bottom of the delaware is a mix of thick mud and silt the deer obvious lucky whether youre a deer or human this is not the place you want to get stuck in. State Committee Hearing on philadelphia soda tax is canceled after rowdy protesters made their thoughts known the kicker the people causing the disruption, well, theyre in favor of the soda tax. Meeting was meant to be an open forum to discuss citizens issues with the policy. It it couldnt even get underway after protesters yelled and blew horns. One of the primary functions of the tax to pay for free preschool education for children. I just want to let the crowd in this room recognize that your City Council Members do care about this issue. Were paying attention to it. Were interested in a hearing that is also fair and balanced. Its important to understand why or how a hearing on the impact of the beverage tax would exclude a number of people. The beverage tax first took effect back in january a midge controversy. Developing to night, a paraplegic man from south philadelphia is recovering from his injuries tonight. After an alleged beating at the the hands of his own uncle. The incident happened last wednesday we got a call from the 11 victim this morning. He wanted to talk about what happened and thats the story here. Bruce gordon joining us in studio to explain. Bruce. Reporter guys, on the spectrum of crime, this was not banner headlines stuff. Simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. But this alleged attack was as we said between two family members. Two asianamerican family members, and the alleged victim is talking about it publicly. Sadly, that is news worthy. 40yearold mark foo insights us into the south philadelphia home he had shared with his aunt and uncle. Your family is probably not thrilled youre talking to me right now. Definitely not. Definitely not. Reporter youve be trade them in some way . In yeah, im pretty sure maybe some my family might even consider disowning me as well. Reporter foo is vietnamese and chinese, but grew up in the us. As a child he says he remembers witnessing acts of Domestic Violence and being told essentially keep it to yourself. Acephate family matter rather than showing it to the public, theyll feel embarrassed. An accident left foo wheelchair bound unable to use his legs. On the evening of june 14th, he got into an argument with his 62yearold uncle si lamb and thats when he says it happened. He had a fit and he attacked me. He basically through me down to the ground and i couldnt get up and run. Reporter bleeding profusely foo called 911. Police arrived but by then his uncle had fled. My family, um, wanted me to, you know, keep it on the hush hush just like every other incident like when i seen growing up. Reporter studies show asianamericans are less likely to report incidents of dough mystic violence to police one thing physical discipline may be accepted in some homes. Theres often a language barriers and theres a cultural hurdle to coming forward. Koreanamerican city councilman david oh explains.
