now the search for who did it. >> now fox 29 news at ten. right now it's about 3:00 a.m. in manchester, england and news is still breaking arena packed with teenagers and kids enjoying ariana grande and then sheer terror with a deadly explosion. right now, frantic parents and others are trying to track down people who were at the concert. good evening, i'm iain page. >> i'm lucy noland. early reports suggest a nail bomb went off designed to inn plick maximum terror and fatalities. this is what we know right now. it happened around 10:30 manchester time. 19 people have died. at least 50 are injured. authorities are saying the explosion happened outside at recent in a near the box office. spokesperson for singer ariana grande confirms she's not injured. no group has stepped forward claiming responsibility at this point. but reports indicate a suicide bombing with nails involved. in the crowd an estimated 20,000 people. so many children there. second device, well, authorities say they found one near the arena but safely detonated it. a witness just spoke to fox news a short time ago. >> as i turned around boom, one loud noise and then we, um --, then so for the first ten seconds we thought about it and we just walk with haste and then a gentleman said, run! so we r ran. >> now we're monitoring all of the developments. a lot happening right now. so many parents are still loo lk looking for their children at this moment. we'll have a live report coming up in just minutes. >> develop to go night in philadelphia's east falls section. a man abducted and beaten and now police are trying to figure out why. word about the tack came from witness. >> what the person describes it's horrifying. our dave schratwieser is live with the investigation seen and reports, dave. >> reporter: lucy, some frightening moments out here on roberts avenue tonight when that witness says she saw a man being beaten on the side of the road then tossed into a mini van and driven from the scene. tonight police say this appears to be a kidnapping and carjac carjacking. it was just after 7:00 monday night when a witness called 911 to report a beating and abduction in the 2800 block of roberts near fox street. >> one of the males was getting the best of a second male beating him up. >> reporter: witness told police the beating victim was dragged to a nearby brown mini van and thrown inside. >> the person winning the fight forced the victim into the mini van and laid him down at the back of the mini van and continued to assault him. >> reporter: at some point a third man exited the van, jumped in the victim's car and took o off. >> that's when the person who was winning the fight got into the driver's side of the mini van with the victim still laying in the back closed the side door and drove off. >> you come out here with your family to go shopping and everything like that, and just to hear something that tragic, you know, that happened it's really scary out here. >> reporter: investigators were checking surveillance cameras in the area. they say the witness is credible and they're not sure what the motive is for this assault, abduction and carjacking incident. >> we don't know if this was the result of an auto accident that turned into road rage incident we're not sure at this time. >> reporter: now, one suspect was described as about 6-foot 4-inches tall wearing a white shirt and black pants. the victim's car was a black car that's the only description. both vehicles were driven westbound on roberts towards the boulevard. tonight police say they are checking those surveillance cameras hoping for some clues. iain? >> dave, thanks. a despicable act caught on camera in a parking lot. you see the guy circled in this video. well he mocked a man with cerebral palsy then he sucker punched him and as joyce evans reports the man prosecutors call bully has now been charged. >> reporter: it was supposed to be just a quick late night run to the 7eleven. who has done that? for one young man the way he was humiliated, the way he was attacked there aren't any words. >> really? >> the initial reaction to just the cruel mocking might make anybody's blood boil. but if that wasn't horrible enough -- >> oh, my goodness. no way. >> guy makes me, that's correct make me want to cry so much. >> 22-year-old victim who has cerebral palsy clearly shaken. and authorities say bleeding from a sucker punch to the face. while the attacker just strolls on. >> defendant he's a coward, he's a bully, i can't say enough bad things about him. >> reporter: and this is the man now facing simple assault and related charges. police say 29-year-old barry baker, jr., had no idea it was all being caught on video. and that he ran away when an officer approached him after the victim alerted police. >> the victim showed a lot of dignity here. a lot of restrain. hard enough to have something like cerebral palsy but to have somebody pick on you because much it is outrageous in this day and time. >> no one should ever judge someone on the way they walk or talk or anything like that. >> never want to see a fellow citizen of a place you live in treat someone like that. >> reporter: chester county da tom hogan says he wishes he could tack on even tougher charges. >> you would think where somebody is clear been attacked based on their disability that we would have a statute much like ethnic intimidation that would play. >> hate crime. >> i work in disabilities. that's so sad. >> bethenny lang works with people who have special needs. dan spar pello does, too. he says he couldn't imagine somebody doing this to his cousin with a disability. >> you see these kind of things a lot, upping, but not -- not to that degree. that's just down right absurd. >> reporter: the comments we heard from one person that could not be aired on tv did ask, i wonder how tough that attacker feels now knowing that everybody could see what he did to a disabled young man? in west chester, joyce evans, fox 29 news. >> really is disgusting what happened there. handful of jurors seat to do night for bill cosby's sex al as walt trial. lawyers interviewed dozens of possible juror who's will decide his fate in just few weeks. fox 29's chris o'connell has more on the first day of jury selection in pittsburgh. >> reporter: tonight five pittsburgh area residents are the first to be chosen to be among the 12 jurors selected to decide the fate of bill cosby. 79-year-old comedy legend bill cos beef leaving the allegheny county courthouse after day one of jury selection. three men and two women are among the jury pool to travel to norristown for this high-profile celebrity trial. >> mr. cosby, how you feeling today? >> reporter: earlier in the day, cosby said nothing while being escorted into the courthouse. inside common pleas court judge stephen o'neill and attorneys are in the process of picking 12 jury are and six alternates who will decide the fate of the 79-year-old comedian. >> how was mr. cosby doing this morning. >> he's holding up fine. he's looking forward it to. he appreciates all that's been done by the people of pittsburgh in allegheny county to make this happen. >> his lead attorney says the defense team is hoping they'll find an impartial western pennsylvania jury to travel to montgomery county for a trial that's set to last at least two weeks. >> we look forward to getting it done as soon as possible, and starting this trial. >> reporter: no comment from montgomery county district attorney kevin steele who charged cosby with drugging and molesting former temple university employee andrea constand in his elkins park home back in 2004. an encounter cosby called consensual. cosby sat just feet away from the first pool of 100 potential jurors each assigned a number. they saw cosby for the first time in court as they were asked a series of questions. a stunning 34 of 100 jurors told judge steven o'neill they've already formed an opinion as to guilt or innocence of bill cos cosby. >> jury selection continues in the morning. we are told it could be another day or two before that jury is selected. once that's done undone that jury will travel to montgomery county, be sequestered in a hotel. they've been told they'll have to be away from their families for up to three weeks for the trial. that starts on june 5th. in pittsburgh, chris o'connell, fox 29 news. ♪ back to our breaking news now from that bombing a tack in manchester, england. at least 19 people are dead. what's being reported as an explosion at ariana grande concert at the manchester arena. fox's lauren blank charred is in washington monitoring the situation. >> lauren, what's the very latest coming in now. >> reporter: hey, iain and lucy. carnage at a pop star's concert in the uk. police now reporting fatalities and injuries the double digits 19 confirmed dead. 50 injured at this point. the numbers could rise. witnesses say there was blood everywhere. >> uk police say they are now treating the incident at an ariana grande concert aster roar until they know more. it happened at manchester arena in the northwest region of the country about 10:45 at night local time. >> i live about 4 miles away from here and i saw a number of ambulances and police cars heading this way to arena. very -- right in the center of manchester. it's a busy area. and there's more and more police and ambulances arriving all the time. >> reporter: uk police say they are focusing on the foyer area of the arena. greater manchester police releasing a statement on twitter urging folks to avoid the area. manchester is the third largest city in england and at recent in a there is one of the biggest in the country. seating about 21,000. it was a confusing seen as thousands were leaving. some thought large balloons could be the source of the noises. others wondering if it was a technical problem. or if it was something worse. >> a lot of confusion here witness the people who were even inside the arena. saying, you know, at first they thought it was balloon going off but then thinking about it, it was such a loud noise. how could it have been a ballo balloon? in center city. brad it took a lot per seive tense to right this wrong. >> reporter: iain for sure did it his name a sean thomas. he's been in prison since 1993. that's 24 years but thank thanks to a former cop the deckert law firm and pennsylvania innocence project he could be out within hours. >> put your hands in god and kept saying everything going to be okay. >> reporter: hard to imagine how hazel thomas must feel. her son is on the search of leaving prison after 24 years about to be freed for a murder he didn't commit. it was in 1990 at the corner of sixth and lehigh where a man was shot and killed inside his car during a robbery. ron smith temple university student back then happened to be driving by and saw everything. >> a gentleman came out of the car in front of me and went up to the car in front of him and shot somebody through the wind window. >> reporter: three years later sean and his brother were charged and convicted based on the shaky testimony of two men who finger them for the crime in he can change for leniency for crimes they committed. attorney james four gorsky a former police officer teamed up with the presence innocence project and immediately saw holes in the story. >> he said there's no evidence against me other than what these two people said. i thought well i mean it's a murder conviction must have been some physical evidence or scientific evidence and there wasn't. >> reporter: turns out sean thomas was arrested the night before the murder accused of trying to steal a motorcycle. when the murder occurred the neck morning, sean was with his mother at a youth detention center off the ben franklin parkway. but somehow the records verifying that disappeared. and ron smith the witness his version was different and he was never asked to testify. >> i was told that my testimony wasn't consistent with other witnesses. and i wouldn't be needed. i would think that, you know, a person that was the eyewitness and alerted the police would not be discounted that picture. >> they form a picture how this murder happened and they were stick to go that and they didn't seem to want to hear anything else that interfered with that picture. >> one of the men who claimed sean was involved later recanted the story. at the request of the pennsylvania innocence project the da's conviction review unit reopen the case last fall and on tuesday, expected to ask a judge for sean's release. james, spent 900 hours investigating this case pro bo bono. >> how are you feeling. >> i feel great today. i think we're all happy about this. >> no one happier than mom it. >> makes me feel real good. real real good. because i finally have him back. >> reporter: and so hearing set for here at 9:00 o'clock tomorrow morning for now sean remains in prison in schuylkill county. if a judge science off on this, he could be out as early as tomorrow. or if not, tomorrow then on wednesday. his brother for now, lucy, remains in prison. >> all right. now an attorney in washington came back to his hometown monday night to be stow college scholarship on six philly honor students. one in the murder -- >> all of them aware of the back story behind the now the search for who did it. >> now fox 29 news at ten. right now it's about 3:00 a.m. in manchester, england and news is still breaking arena packed with teenagers and kids enjoying ariana grande and then sheer terror with a deadly explosion. right now, frantic parents and others are trying to track down people who were at the concert. good evening, i'm iain page. >> i'm lucy noland. early reports suggest a nail bomb went off designed to inn plick maximum terror and fatalities. this is what we know right now. it happened around 10:30 manchester time. 19 people have died. at least 50 are injured. authorities are saying the explosion happened outside at recent in a near the box office. spokesperson for singer ariana grande confirms she's not injured. no group has stepped forward claiming responsibility at this point. but reports indicate a suicide bombing with nails involved. in the crowd an estimated 20,000 people. so many children there. second device, well, authorities say they found one near the arena but safely detonated it. a witness just spoke to fox news a short time ago. >> as i turned around boom, one loud noise and then we, um --, then so for the first ten seconds we thought about it and we just walk with haste and then a gentleman said, run! so we r ran. >> now we're monitoring all of the developments. a lot happening right now. so many parents are still loo lk looking for their children at this moment. we'll have a live report coming up in just minutes. >> develop to go night in philadelphia's east falls section. a man abducted and beaten and now police are trying to figure out why. word about the tack came from witness. >> what the person describes it's horrifying. our dave schratwieser is live with the investigation seen and reports, dave. >> reporter: lucy, some frightening moments out here on roberts avenue tonight when that witness says she saw a man being beaten on the side of the road then tossed into a mini van and driven from the scene. tonight police say this appears to be a kidnapping and carjac carjacking. it was just after 7:00 monday night when a witness called 911 to report a beating and abduction in the 2800 block of roberts near fox street. >> one of the males was getting the best of a second male beating him up. >> reporter: witness told police the beating victim was dragged to a nearby brown mini van and thrown inside. >> the person winning the fight forced the victim into the mini van and laid him down at the back of the mini van and continued to assault him. >> reporter: at some point a third man exited the van, jumped in the victim's car and took o off. >> that's when the person who was winning the fight got into the driver's side of the mini van with the victim still laying in the back closed the side door and drove off. >> you come out here with your family to go shopping and everything like that, and just to hear something that tragic, you know, that happened it's really scary out here. >> reporter: investigators were checking surveillance cameras in the area. they say the witness is credible and they're not sure what the motive is for this assault, abduction and carjacking incident. >> we don't know if this was the result of an auto accident that turned into road rage incident we're not sure at this time. >> reporter: now, one suspect was described as about 6-foot 4-inches tall wearing a white shirt and black pants. the victim's car was a black car that's the only description. both vehicles were driven westbound on roberts towards the boulevard. tonight police say they are checking those surveillance cameras hoping for some clues. iain? in west chester, joyce evans, fox 29 news. >> really is disgusting what happened there. handful of jurors seat to do night for bill cosby's sex al as walt trial. lawyers interviewed dozens of possible juror who's will decide his fate in just few weeks. fox 29's chris o'connell has more on the first day of jury selection in pittsburgh. >> reporter: tonight five pittsburgh area residents are the first to be chosen to be among the 12 jurors selected to decide the fate of bill cosby. 79-year-old comedy legend bill cos beef leaving the allegheny county courthouse after day one of jury selection. three men and two women are among the jury pool to travel to norristown for this high-profile celebrity trial. >> mr. cosby, how you feeling today? >> reporter: earlier in the day, cosby said nothing while being escorted into the courthouse. inside common pleas court judge stephen o'neill and attorneys are in the process of picking 12 jury are and six alternates who will decide the fate of the 79-year-old comedian. >> how was mr. cosby doing this morning. >> he's holding up fine. he's looking forward it to. he appreciates all that's been done by the people of pittsburgh in allegheny county to make this happen. >> his lead attorney says the defense team is hoping they'll find an impartial western pennsylvania jury to travel to montgomery county for a trial that's set to last at least two weeks. >> we look forward to getting it done as soon as possible, and starting this trial. >> reporter: no comment from montgomery county district attorney kevin steele who charged cosby with drugging and molesting former temple university employee andrea constand in his elkins park home back in 2004. an encounter cosby called consensual. cosby sat just feet away from the first pool of 100 potential jurors each assigned a number. they saw cosby for the first time in court as they were asked a series of questions. a stunning 34 of 100 jurors told judge steven o'neill they've already formed an opinion as to guilt or innocence of bill cos cosby. >> jury selection continues in the morning. we are told it could be another day or two before that jury is selected. once that's done undone that jury will travel to montgomery county, be sequestered in a hotel. they've been told they'll have to be away from their families for up to three weeks for the trial. that starts on june 5th. in pittsburgh, chris o'connell, fox 29 news. ♪ back to our breaking news now from that bombing a tack in manchester, england. at least 19 people are dead. what's being reported as an explosion at ariana grande concert at the manchester arena. fox's lauren blank charred is in washington monitoring the situation. >> lauren, what's the very latest coming in now. >> reporter: hey, iain and lucy. carnage at a pop star's concert in the uk. police now reporting fatalities and injuries the double digits 19 confirmed dead. 50 injured at this point. the numbers could rise. witnesses say there was blood everywhere. >> uk police say they are now treating the incident at an ariana grande concert aster roar until they know more. it happened at manchester arena in the northwest region of the country about 10:45 at night local time. >> i live about 4 miles away from here and i saw a number of ambulances and police cars heading this way to arena. very -- right in the center of manchester. it's a busy area. and there's more and more police and ambulances arriving all the time. >> reporter: uk police say they are focusing on the foyer area of the arena. greater manchester police releasing a statement on twitter urging folks to avoid the area. manchester is the third largest city in england and at recent in a there is one of the biggest in the country. seating about 21,000. it was a confusing seen as thousands were leaving. some thought large balloons could be the source of the noises. others wondering if it was a technical problem. or if it was something worse. >> a lot of confusion here witness the people who were even inside the arena. saying, you know, at first they thought it was balloon going off but then thinking about it, it was such a loud noise. how could it have been a ballo balloon? >> yes, i do. >> reporter: when was the last time? >> last night. >> reporter: the 42-year-old says he'll use again soon. >> constantly using, man. over abusing. years and years. >> reporter: a task force set up by mayor kenney wants to know if addicts like rivera would be better off injecting heroin in a doctor supervised walk in setting. >> that's a good choice being supervised by any doctor i believe that will help us to overcome more -- to overcome moreover doses. >> reporter: it's a controversial idea. a political hot potato. but one mayor kenney's health commissioner wants to explore to battle the city's opioid epidemic. >> it's an opportunity to engage people where they are, prevent them from dying, and hopefully over the long term get them into treatment. >> reporter: there are 907 overdose deaths in the city in 2016 many in the fair hill section. home to the um taken muss he will cap mento running along a conrail line one of the wore the drug encampments in the country. rivera has roam the cities for a decade. friday's release of the task force report governor wolf cautiously endorsed the idea. >> you're not opposed to it? >> jeff, thank. just a tragic scene playing out across the city and the country. n governor chris christie says he toll them so. christie says he warned president trump about making general michael flynn national security adviser. at a news conference today, christie said "if i were president-elect of the united states, i wouldn't let general flynn in the white house, lit a lone give him a job" he briefly said trump's transition team in november before vice-president mike pence replaced him. in the investigation into russia's possible election meddling former national security adviser michael flynn is take the fifth. flynn and his legal team say in a letter that the senate intelligence committee that they would not turn over presidential documents despite a congressional subpoena. also, today a top house democrat cited new evidence that shows flynn may have lied on a security clearance background check. now this is all going on as president trump is on his first foreign trip as president. happening right now, a plea in north philadelphia tonight to stop the violence. this is all in the wake of that shooting over the weekend that left multiple people hurt include something teens. now the community is hoping to send a message of piece at a time when it is so desperately needed. fox 29's dave kinchen joins us live from philadelphia police headquarters tonight. dave? hazel thomas must feel. her son is on the search of leaving prison after 24 years about to be freed for a murder he didn't commit. it was in 1990 at the corner of sixth and lehigh where a man was shot and killed inside his car during a robbery. ron smith temple university student back then happened to be driving by and saw everything. >> a gentleman came out of the car in front of me and went up to the car in front of him and shot somebody through the wind window. >> reporter: three years later sean and his brother were charged and convicted based on the shaky testimony of two men who finger them for the crime in he can change for leniency for crimes they committed. attorney james four gorsky a former police officer teamed up with the presence innocence project and immediately saw holes in the story. >> he said there's no evidence against me other than what these two people said. i thought well i mean it's a murder conviction must have been some physical evidence or scientific evidence and there wasn't. >> reporter: turns out sean thomas was arrested the night before the murder accused of trying to steal a motorcycle. when the murder occurred the neck morning, sean was with his mother at a youth detention center off the ben franklin parkway. but somehow the records verifying that disappeared. and ron smith the witness his version was different and he was never asked to testify. >> i was told that my testimony wasn't consistent with other witnesses. and i wouldn't be needed. i would think that, you know, a person that was the eyewitness and alerted the police would not be discounted that picture. >> they form a picture how this murder happened and they were stick to go that and they didn't seem to want to hear anything else that interfered with that picture. >> one of the men who claimed sean was involved later recanted the story. at the request of the pennsylvania innocence project the da's conviction review unit reopen the case last fall and on tuesday, expected to ask a judge for sean's release. james, spent 900 hours investigating this case pro bo bono. >> how are you feeling. >> i feel great today. i think we're all happy about this. >> no one
