They attacked a sketchyearold man walking by. This happened in the middle of the day and police want these two guys off the streets. Good evening, im iain page. Im lucy noland. Reporter lucy, no doubt about it. Len pell tells us he lived in Port Richmond for over 30 years and never been the victim of a crime before until now. The two suspects playing in a playground in the moments before the attack. They really wailed it in there for about 30 seconds or so. Reporter 67yearold len pell says he was simply walking home from Neighborhood Corner store when out of nowhere he was violently attacked from behind. Bang, you know, snuck me and clocked me something, stunned me and just kept hitting me and hitting me and hitting. He suffered fail injuries and had his wallet stolen he was hospitalized. Hes on the road to recovery now shaken up by the beating and robbery. This was all black and blue. My knows was black bruin. This changed color the next day and the head was lumped. Reporter it started around 1 30 in the afternoon with the two young suspects swinging on the swings at the stokely playground in Port Richmond. Seconds later, surveillance cameras captured them brutally attacking pell. Out there on the swings like sixyearolds and then innocent victim hes passing through like people do they cut through that area and like i said it was broad daylight. Reporter sarah visits the playground two or three times a week with her little cousin word of the attack upset her and raised concerns about safety. Its scary. Especially with kids around. You dont want them to see it. You dont want anyone to get hurt. Sean bradley comes to the playground with his son every time the weather gets nice. Its bad for the neighborhood. Threes did recover the victims wallet with id and credit cards still in it. Skyfox also over north philadelphia street where someone shot a man in the back of the head four times and left him for dead. Police found him along the 300 block of westmoreland just before 7 00 tonight. He died a short time later. They dont yet know who he he was was, why it happened or who pulle the trigger. Reporter hes only seven but a hero honored by the Burlington County freeholders wednesday night. We were impressed by roccos ability to really stay calm don what he needed to do. Rocco called 911 when his mother had an asthma tack he was given a proclamation for his fast thinking and his own tshirt from Emergency Services. I was very scared. We sat down with rocky and his mother danielle at their marlton home as they recalled that frightening morning just a few days ago. I couldnt breathe. I was in and out of consciousness. It was it wasnt pleasant. Reporter rocky quickly grabbed the phone. First i thought i needed to call daddy, but daddy was at work. So, um, then i knew to call 911. Reporter listen, as rocco calls for help. 911 what is your emergency . Um, my mommy cant breathe. Notice how calm rocco is the whole time. Is she able to talk to you at all . She cant really talk that much. She can only say one or two words. Police were asking me some questions like like, um, like what was happening . Reporter help came quickly and his mother is recovering. On wednesday night, rocco met wade stein the operator on the other end of that 911 call. Did he excellent. I mean, young man at his age new his address specialsly calling from a cell phone it makes it sometimes a little difficult to pinpoint their location but he knew it right off the bat and we were good to go. Im really really happy for him. Something that was, you know, a bad situation just that he kept so cool and calm. Reporter his mom says all of their emergency drills paid off big. Reporter and roccos mom says theyve always talked about what to do in emergency situations like who to call if he gets lost and by the way rocco says when he grows up he may just want to be a police officer. Police say someone emailed a bomb threat overnight police didnt find anything after they evacuated the building. Just last week, someone called in a bomb threat to the same building as well as two other local Jccs Jewish Community Centers across the country reported similar threats. Prosecutors in reading berks county say an officer was justified when he shot and killed an armed man last month. It happened when Police Responded to a report of threats at a barbecue. Police say 62yearold michael stature fussed few to drop his gun and pointed it in their direction. Officers then opened fire and he is not going to face charges. Complete brutality from three home invader whos pulled a nine day old baby from his mothers arms and tossed the infant to the floor. The babys mother says three men with guns kicked in her front door around 123,018th street. The mom was in bed with her baby on her chest the men pointed their guns and demanded money. A mother and her baby fell out of a second floor apartment window. That mom threw herself and her child out that window intentionally. Neighbors say the woman was having suicidal thoughts. Her neighbor had jumped out of the window of her home on the 2,000 block of diamond street with her twoyearold son in her arms in an attempted suicide. Reporter darden says it all started yesterday when she saw her neighbor sitting on the window ledge with her child. She tried to reach out. Basically i seen her basically dangling the baby out the window i ran over there and got the baby from her. Reporter darden cep the baby for about half hour and talked to the mom for awhile. She thought the 36yearold was feeling better until she saw the ambulances this morning. And the mother and son lying on the pavement. His face, his head and stuff was bleeding. A real life murder mystery 86 years in the making. The family of a teenager believed to be the youngest person ever to die in the pennsylvania electric chair is heading into a Delaware County courthouse. Theyre trying to overturn the 1931 murder conviction of alexander mc Clay Williams. Chris oconnell has been digging into a landmark case live in media tonight. Chris . Reporter guys, alexander mc Clay Williams was just 16 years old when 2,000 volts of electricity went rushing through this 125pound body in the electric chair. That was back in 1931. Well tox night, new evidence uncovered by a meet stranger may prove that teenager wasnt the killer after all. There was no reason for him to die. Terrible thing. Reporter the pain is still fresh. 86 years later. Suzie Williams Carter was just an infant when her brother alexander mc Clay Williams made headlines in 1931 the youngest person known to be put to death in pennsylvanias electric chair at the age of 16. He was the oldest of 13 children. She never new him. Well, i always thought that he didnt do it. My mother said he didnt do it. Reporter while serving four years at is now known the glenn mills school a facility for juvenile delinquent law convicted of murder of 33yearold house matron vita row robert stabbed 47 times with an ice pick in the cottage where she lived with her husband who taught farming at the school. Williams was doing chores unsupervised at the time of the murder but according to records, he quickly confessed to the crime. He was arrested october 10th of 1930 and executed june 8th, 1931. Just 243 days later. Why was this kid, um, kind of judicially lynched . Reporter but now an unlikely stranger has come to clear williams name. Originally my goal was to find out why would he do this . And i thought, you know, maybe theres a Mental Illness issue. Maybe somebody put him up to it. Now you think hes totally innocent. Positively. Not a doubt in my mind. Reporter sam lemon has been researching this case for 30 years his great grandfather William Ridley was the attorney who originally represented williams during his murder tri trial. The image of him sitting in had electric chair with a hood over his head i cant get that out of my mind. Like that haunts me. Like this story haunts me. Reporter lemon search for justice took him to green lawn cemetery. We met him while he was searching the overgrown weeds for williams gravesite. But so far there is no reporter the 16yearold ever got a headstone. Even just based on the information that the prosecution provided, he could not possibly have done this. Reporter lemon uncovered a trophy of new evidence. Forged documents, changing williams age and roberts death certificate naming williams as the killer written in different color ink days before the boy was even arrested. And the headlines of the day say the crime was committed by an adult and a bloody hand print on the wall. But williams never had a spec of blood on him that day. Anybody now knows that you stab somebody all that many times its a crime of passion. Reporter so if williams didnt do it, who did . Well the family now believes the killer is actually the victims husband fred robare and they say they have the evidence to prove it. In a stu stunning revolution not known until recen recently vita. E divorced her husband 99 years earlier in michigan the reason she stated in records extreme cruelty. The believe he killed his wife in a fit of rage and framed it on the closest delinquent he could fine. Dont take their word for it. My ancestor got away with murder. We had a lot of troubles in our family and lots of time they made the comment that we were cursed i feel like the best way to move forward as a family to correct the past. And this would correct an injustice from the past which would make us better people. Reporter on friday, decedents of alexander mc Clay Williams and the attorney who represented him will come back to the very same media courthouse where he was convicted of murder 86 years later to try to clear his name. Its also a stain on the court. Its a stain on the honor of the court. Reporter their goal so clear williams name for his last surviving immediate family member. Reporter now, friday morning the family will once again come back to the Delaware County courthouse to ask a judge for williams expungement but that does not address guilt or innocence. They were all caught on tape headed towards the victim and then beat the victim and robbed him. They took 70 his wallet, credit cards and i did which were later recovered by police. Today marks one year since new jersey state trooper sean cullen died on the job. Cullen died last year after he was hit by a car while investigating an accident on i295 in west deptford. Officials say he was walking near the crash scene when the accident happened. Cullen served in several south Jersey Police departments before joining the new Jersey State Police in 2014. Family and friends say it was his dream to become a state trooper. To story about a very sick little boy. A frantic mom and the kindness of strangers. That boy with cancer was on his way to get treatment when all of a sudden his moms van broke down on the side of a highway. Word spread pretty quick and then many people stepped in to save the day. Reporter mcleish was making her weekly 80 miles each way trip from dover, delaware, to Childrens Hospital in philly with 13yearold thomas hes under going chemotherapy for inoperable brain tumor. I was in tears. I was crying. I didnt know what i was going to do. My husband had the flu. So he was down. There was no way he could come up to Childrens Hospital. Reporter whats going through your mind when that happened. Im like whats going on. Im scared. Reporter your van is broken down on the highway. Kind of stranded. Yeah. Reporter limped the van to chop and explained their dilemma to their doctor. He contacted their social worker she reached out to an Organization Called kisses for kyle a Montgomery County based Charitable Organization that helps families dealing with childrens cancer. The organization paid to have mcleishs van towed back to dover then reach out to one of their volunteers a set ran philly cop named Timothy Mc Nicholas he had just finished off nine hour bomb disposal shift and was ready to do some more good. He drove april and thomas to dover then turned around and went to his home a nearly four hour favor for a stranger. It was so generous. Um, i offered to give him money for the gas, um, i offered, upping, to pay for the tolls to get him something to eat. He wouldnt accept nothing from me. Reporter more than year ago, thomas was given just six months to live. That splotch in the middle of his brain thats the tumor. Hes not out of the woods just yet. But with the kindness of strangers, he keeps battling. I just keep fighting. Doing my job. Reporter your job is to fight . Yup. The kidney his father donated has lasted all these years. Thomas sat down this week with one of the doctors who treated him. Dr. Richard fine they met at Childrens Hospital of los angeles where fate brought them together for that livesaving transplant back in 1967. He was just six years old when he got one of his dads kidneys his father gave him live not once but twice. Fathers love that he was able to give me a kidney and did he, and my dad passed away in 1998 but i still got his kidney. Well now 50 years later that kidney is the longest functioning live donor kidney ever given to a child in the united states. Thats remarkable.
