the right hand. >> saying away from your right hand. >> that means the left hook will be there. that will be there. >> triple jab. right to the chest area. push him back. get him out of that comfort zone. >> brian: the determined look there from chris arreola, his trainer henry ramirez, and as we heard arreola constantly going to his right and mark breland says the check hook will be there, you heard j.d.'s voice in wilder's corner and also wilder, saying if he's going to walk there throw the hook. >> danny: the left uppercut to the body, he will walk right into it and that will set the right hand up. this is a slow-paced fight. i think this favors arreola. this is the pace he wants. he doesn't want to be in a fight to make him dig deep. >> brian: obviously, arreola a big dodgers fan from los angeles -- he's got the "l.a." -- he had the l.a. cap on this morning at breakfast, has the l.a. gloves on now. >> virgil: chris is an l.a. fan period, born i believe in another state if i'm not mistaken but he was raised and bread and buttered in l.a. so he's a die-hard blue. >> danny: mark showed his experience as a coach and former fighter, he recognized what arreola was doing. so far chris hasn't shown him the check hook but he's coming forward a little bit more this round. >> brian: wilder still has the space. if he can get in the pocket, i don't know what arreola can do if wilder can stand back and snap out that long jab. >> virgil: arreola's legs are at a nice angle but his shoulders are square to deontay which means deontay can bring something down the pipe. >> danny: in the middle. >> virgil: he's square to him. he's not angled with his lead shoulder. he's got his hands high. he's open down the middle now. >> brian: if he throws something down the pipe, it could be sleep time -- he throws a hard right hand from a long distance with a ton of leverage. strong right hand. >> virgil: right down the pipe. >> danny: a strong jab too. i like that jab. >> brian: that stick has developed over his last few fights where it's not just going out there as a heth feather duster, it's a pole. you cannot run through it. >> danny: you can hear it. >> brian: if you draw it up, this is what it looks like, virgil, you have been through the wars, you have seen sonny liston, george foreman, this guy is 6'7" with that type of leverage and length. >> virgil: he brings a different dimension to the sport along with power. there are things you have to overcome to beat deontay but i would give the experience edge to arreola but where he is at this stage of his career, it might not be enough, if deontay is enough to offset the experience. still it's touch and go now. >> brian: arreola gets wilder back to the ropes. wilder fires out a right hand and another. arreola moved his head. arreola seems to be cut already, maybe from that one first right hand. >> brian: blood on the bridge of the nose for chris arreola. we have a report from kristine leahy. >> kristine: deontay wilder has a lot of fans in alabama. he still lives in tuscaloosa where he used to work at the ihop. he also worked at the red lobster and delivered budweisers on a truck. he plays with the police department and the funniest part is when guys foul him they say my bad, my problem. they've do not want to get him mad. his roots are deep. a lot of fans here to support him tonight, brian. >> brian: kristine, there are things you can know about deontay wilder. huge alabama fan. worked at ihop, red lobster, and on the budweiser truck, it wasn't just like for a summer, i saw in the notes, so you worked there for two months. . no six years delivering the beer. lugging the beer. wasn't even the top guy on his truck. >> danny: he knows hard work. >> brian: takes a while to become the driver. first you have to lug the beer. he did that for six years. virgil, take a closer look, looks like arreola is cut on the bridge of the nose. >> virgil: it could be from the right hand down the pipe, caught him in the forehead, the thing is wilder came back with a psychological play after chris had his moments and went to rumbling with him and let him know "i can rumble with you now, you can feel my power even if you block it." >> brian: his corner has to think are we winning rounds? we're surviving. this is good. but do we have any shot at winning this fight? >> danny: i think he's backing on trying not to get hit with a big shot early and try to rally late. he doesn't want to get too clean early from a big right hand by wilder and get knocked down and hurt. try to get him late. >> brian: you're right. you've got to do what you can do. arreola tries to work in and you can see wilder didn't drill him with a hard right hand and he was opened up. >> virgil: be careful and not fight with chris arreola. he just missed a shot right on the button. he needs to take this serious as a championship and not play around. >> brian: arreola's camp told us at any point in the night wilder will be vulnerable. they know that wilder is the real deal, he's 6'7", strong, and competent but at some point in the fight there will be a chance. >> virgil: i like how chris went to the body when he had him on the ropes, didn't waste a shot trying to go upstairs. went underneath. >> danny: low blow there. >> virgil: chris again showing his experience, hitting wilder on the hip when jack reese is behind him. if he gets enough of those, wilder will not be moving much longer. he needs to take this fight a little more serious because arreola knows what he has to do to win. >> brian: chipping right hand and a hook. had his shoulders and his back behind that. >> virgil: a fourth of the punches moving, chris, he's blocking him and he's still moving him over a step. >> danny: deontay has thunder in those hands. >> brian: if he can step to you and throw like a baseball outfielder tloig to the plate, arreola is in real trouble. >> danny: arreola showing a great chin. >> virgil: he's catching most of them, a couple got through but the idea he's moving him like that gives you the idea of the kind of power wilder possesses. >> danny: sometimes you can catch the punch and still feel it. >> virgil: yes, sir. >> brian: arreola making hay on the body and the hips and virgil hunter said. -- as virgil hunter said. that's round three. before tonight's fight, deontay wilder shot some exclusive video for fox sports sports podcast. ♪ >> brian: clearly, pro cast not podcast." >> danny: [laughing] >> brian: you know why you've got to love that belt. you worked so hard to get it. another look here as he throws the big right hand. >> virgil: great reach. great leverage. >> danny: a perfect shot. perfect right hand down the pipe. that's his money punch. >> brian: mark breland told us, virgil, in the hotel on the way over i want to see a shorter hook. >> virgil: arreola picked up on the hook before it landed. most fighters can pick up on it, they can take the punch. >> brian: round four scheduled for 12. deontay wilder had planned on a big title defense against alexander povetkin. povetkin tested positive for a banned substance. the fight was called nine days before the bout. wilder was already in camp in sheffield, england, he was about to get on the plane to go to moscow when he got the news and he wondered, does the fight go on? danny garcia, you went through this situation in your career. >> danny: i have been there before. the difference between his and mine was i found out the day before my fight so it was like -- it was a tough decision for me. >> brian: eric morales. >> danny: yeah, eric morales. he had weeks to think about it but i think he made the right decision. why fight somebody who is injured? >> brian: wilder says i insight. arreola dances and fires off an uppercut. got the crowd excited. >> virgil: that was great entertainment but these are heavyweights. he needs to take it serious. i love the entertainment but this is very serious. >> danny: threw the left hook and came back with the body shot. >> virgil: good to see him having fun as long as he stays mentally focused and not lose it. >> brian: wilder, in every fight now insists on the type of testing that actually catches the athlete that is cheating. >> danny: a bloody urine test. commissioner tests for urine. the blood is where you get them. >> brian: the crowd booing. their men being scolded. wilder told us this sport is serious enough, the human head not to be hit. you put p.e.d.'s into the body, it's a killer. >> danny: exactly, that's what we don't want. >> virgil: jack was warning wilder about holding chris's down and bringing the uppercut. arreola is getting more and more to the body. >> danny: trying to land that overhand right. >> virgil: barely missing. not working his way into the fight so far but letting him know "i'm here." >> brian: arreola has a calmness about him. >> virgil: he knows what he has to do to win the fight. when you know that, you can stay with it. [cheering] >> brian: hard right hand. down goes arreola. >> referee: two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, chris, are you ok? >> absolutely. >> referee: put your hands up. give me your gloves. >> brian: only a few seconds left. hard right hand by wilder and arreola is hurt. back with another hook. >> brian: arreola barely survives the fourth round. >> virgil: we see wilder cutting loose on chris. he found the range. knocked chris down. what happened, chris stopped after he stepped back and wilder stepped in and struck. he hadn't shown him that move yet and arreola got caught by sleeping. that's just what happened. he was sleeping and got caught. >> brian: then he almost finished him off in the final seconds. arreola doing everything he could, danny, to survive. >> danny: landing big power shots. it's going to be hard to recover. i would like to see what happens this next round. >> don't get careless. i don't care how you do it, get close, make it close and stay there. we're not going to win a boxing match. get close. go to work. you got hit at the end of a shot. hands up. >> brian: in the middle of the ring, wilder waving to his fans. he hasn't been hurt. arreola, calm, sits on his stool until the round begins. >> danny: the energy. >> brian: exactly. you need to suck in the oxygen before you come back out. wilder can't wait to get started. >> danny: wilder ought to go out and wrap it up. >> brian: a sharp jab from wilder. a hook here in the opening seconds of round five. >> danny: body shot. he's stationary. he can't move out of the way. his head is right there for wilder to touch. >> danny: chris needs to wrap him up, get close, try to buy some time, try to get his legs under him, try to get his head back on his shoulders. can't stay on the outside like this taking shots. >> brian: wilder is totally in the pocket, able to get full leverage, snapping out his shots. >> virgil: if he's able to walk like he it in the first round, that will help considerably but henry martinez wanted him to stay cles to wilder to smother him and he hasn't done that, letting wilder dictate what he wants to do. it could be a matter of time. probably this round. nice work by arreola showing he's game. >> brian: that was a shorter right hand, virgil, that time that stunned arreola in that last round. >> virgil: it was, and i said earlier wilder is much more dangerous with the short right hand than he is with his long range because he's able to get the follow-through, with the type of build he has and narrow through the hips he's going to get full rotation on the punch, and follow-through. fight, doing what he wants to do in there. >> virgil: he's showing the experience that he's gaining fight after fight. taking his time. knowing "i don't have to rush. i got you where i want to. now all i have to do is keep you there until i drop another one on you." >> brian: live in birmingham, alabama, deontay wilder, 36-0, 35 wins by knockout and getting better and better with each fight. again, he wanted the big fight with alexander pavetkin. he wants fights with -- won fights with tyson fury. he wants anthony joshua. he's calling out everybody, i think it's honest, it's easy to say "i want this guy," i think he legitimately would fight any heavyweight in the world and try to prove he's the best. >> virgil: i think he has the tools, the power, to beat them guys. >> brian: he's fan friendly. this is fun to watch. >> virgil: yes, sir. >> brian: i asked him what did he think of klitschko when tyson fury dethroned klitschko. he took a lot of bathroom breaks. that was a tough fight to watch. this is not a tough fight to watch. >> danny: whether deontay is allowing this or chris is getting back into the fight, it's hard to tell. >> brian: uppercut by wilder. and arreola getting pushed around. hanging on for dear life in the final seconds. >> virgil: arreola hit him about four times on the hip and the referee was standing right there and didn't see it. >> danny: that's the veteran. >> brian: live and commercial free, p.b.c. here on fox as wilder is putting on a show and arreola is trying to survive. >> virgil: right here we see deontay clear the space, wilder clear the space with his left hand, wilder clear the space, take a little step back with waist from the waist and catch arreola with the uppercut. >> bring the pressure, go downstairs. >> you hurt him with jabs. straight in. he's ready to go. he can't take no more hard shots. >> still going to keep trying. >> brian: good advice in the corner. >> focus and finish, baby, focus and finish. >> brian: in the corner, soft-spoken former champion mark breland, one of the greatest amateurs ever saying "look, you've got this, however, this guy will keep trying, let's not get sloppy. >> virgil: anybody in boxing that knows chris arreola knows that's true, excellent instructions from mark breland, keep him disoriented and it's a matter of time before you drop it in, mark realizes you don't need hooks and uppercuts at this time in the fight. keep that jab working and it will do the job. >> brian: that's a real hard stick from those huge shoulders of deontay wilder. >> danny: stick jab comes from his waist. >> brian: good leverage and a short hook as well. >> virgil: chris is standing right there in the mouth of the cannon. over and over. >> brian: over 12,000 here at the legacy arena to see this. you're live on fox. wilder working over chris arreola. >> brian: nice jab as he steps away. and again. >> brian: if he stays at that distance, that's no-man's land. >> danny: that's where he wants to be. he doesn't want arreola to get close, to give him a chance at that overhand right landing. consider when arreola got knocked down at the end of round four, we've had a pretty good rounds since then, he hasn't been hurt again, he's not winning the rounds but -- >> brian: early in the fifth it looked like, opening seconds, it could be over. >> danny: exactly. >> brian: he has survived, all that experience and toughness kept him alive, mark breland saying "you can't miss that nose," chris arreola's nose has been broken so often it's right there but making the most of what he has left at the age of 35. >> virgil: this is a tough hill to climb but arreola is giving a good accounting of himself under the circumstances. >> brian: wilder said he adjusts to his opponents, he said what happens here depends on chris. different fighters will bring out different things in me." >> virgil: exactly, wilder tried to sneak a big shot on chris again, on the outside when he jabs chris will het h hesitate to regroup and wilder will strike out of nowhere. right there arreola is standing there lackadaisical. he's a little far away that time so wilder didn't make the move. >> danny: arreola taking right hands a little better the last couple rounds. >> brian: through six. mark breland hops in, tries to keep his man on point -- again, we are commercial free. we will listen in. >> beating him up with the jab. the right hand. crisp jab, feint, jab. he's going for everything. >> feel good? stay sharp mentally and focused. stay sharp mentally and focused. >> keep pumping that jab. he can't get away from it. he don't like to get hit. >> i see what you are doing. >> put him on his heels. when you leave him outside, throw fast, take him out of the comfort zone. >> brian: henry ramirez in the corner there for chris arreola, there is deontay wilder, you saw in the corner with jay deas and mark breland, breland was a welterweight champion, at 6'2", almost the same type of fight plan he's had deontay wilder from his first pro fight. stay tall. map out something nasty in the smaller man. >> virgil: mark breland was the first to tutor deontay wilder, you can see his tutelage as wilder develops more and more he's listening from breland and learning from breland's experience as a top amateur and a top pro. >> brian: arreola moving forward, trying to listen to his corner and get wilder in to the ropes. >> brian: if you see an abrasion on the right arm of wilder, he said he scraped his arm doing yard work. the commission has checked it out and said, "look, it's not an open wound. it's not bleeding." they're aware of it. you hear mark breland in the corner. >> do it again, do it again. >> brian: snaps out a beautiful jab. here in alabama, i don't know if he can hear mark breland, deontay says on the road all he can hear is his corner. in alabama, all he hears is the chant "deontay, deontay," he's loved here in alabama, only 50 miles from home. we'll go back to breland and listen in if he has something to say. >> danny: i'm pretty sure deontay can hear him, there is that one special voice. i would hear my father's voice when he's in the building. >> brian: we all hear your father's voice when we're in the building -- angel, i'm kidding. nice hook by wilder. doing his work. "you're winning every round, stay focused." >> virgil: he has to stay focused. he can't let chris back into this fight and he better quit playing with chris and having fun like that. i like the intrachlt but you have the heavyweight title. you can't afford to do that. >> brian: keeping his head up in the air, making noise. >> danny: i think arreola got him mad. >> brian: good right hand, nice three-punch combination by wilder. >> virgil: he should have stayed this way and got this fight over with. you can't take that chance. >> brian: again, hook right after the right hand. beautifully done. >> danny: deontay is having fun in there, feels like arreola can't hurt him and feels it's only a matter of time. >> brian: he knew to get back to business. he got back to business quickly. >> danny: got hit with a couple of hands with his mouth open. >> virgil: arreola can hurt him with the shot. [laughing] >> brian: lennox lewis with hasim rachman. got caught. as we end the round. arreola shaken up but still on his feet. wobbled as he goes back to his stool. >> brian: all right, virgil. >> virgil: we see deontay having a great time entertaining his fans in his home state, having a great time and fun with arreola. arreola still trying to put himself into this fight, wilder seems obligated to entertain. that's great. but he still have to stay focused on this fight to bring it out. >> brian: that's better right there because also you're right, danny, arreola threw a right to his body. arreola was hurt as he wobbled back to his corner. >> you've got to leave it all out there. >> keep him on his heels, ok? go to the body. >> you can't hit him low. throw to the body. this ain't the time and place. rit here. >> brian: mark breland said, "look, we're not doing this." >> danny: what do you want me to do? he's pulling his head down. >> brian: out of the corner for arreola, they're thinking of stopping this fight. i don't know what jack reese is thinking but he's taking a good, close look at chris arreola as the bell rings for round eight. >> virgil: pretty soon both eyes will be closing and he won't see these powerful punches coming. jack reese is getting ready to make a judgment call, it will probably be the right one. even if he doesn't knock him out you have to save him from his competitiveness and toughness and himself. he's already said he's willing to die if here and he's showing the competitiveness and toughness and i believe it. >> brian: virgil, you're absolutely right, at a certain point was hey not can you stand but cuwin and how much punishment do you take. it's a sport. >> virgil: exactly. you don't want to dish out and take this kind of punishment and i believe deontay doesn't want to hurt chris. he wants to get him out of there. he mentioned the body is not built to take this. boxers have compassion for each other when they know they're in complete control. >> brian: deontay does. he told us that when we spoke to him yesterday he said i want to put a guy out, i never want to see a guy hurt but you have to hurt people to get this win, now the blood trickles out and starts pouring. a jab from wilder. >> virgil: chris is not looking good. he's disoriented from those jabs. those jabs are doing a job snapping his head back, the whiplash effect, disorientation. his legs are stumbling were. i would stop the fight if i was jack reese. >> brian: do you think now there is a three-punch combination, jack reese takes a look, arreola is a sitting duck. >> danny: one thing i learned about boxing, you can't feel bad for your opponent. if he knocks you out, he won't feel bad for you. >> brian: arreola, the big overhand right, there is not much left. chris arreola's face now all busted up but he continues to move forward. >> danny: i like how deontay circles off the ropes, doesn't lay on the ropes too long, goes to his right or left when he's on the ropes. >> brian: he steps away, you being think he's out of range and pops a jab off his head. >> danny: landed the left hook, stepped to his left then goes back to the middle of the ring and throws to center. he's having fun in there. >> brian: loads up with the hook. that's why this is so interesting. again, with tyson fury, 6'9", wladimir klitschko, he brings height to the ring too, all those advantages through the years that klitschko has had are negated. >> danny: and real power. >> brian: fires a hook off arreola in the final seconds of round eight. arreola is in bad shape. we're live here in birmingham, alabama, commercial free here on fox and it looks like ramirez having to work -- no, they're going to get to work. ramirez talks to jack reese. >> he's done. >> brian: "he's done. kwtsz >> virgil: good call. >> brian: henry ramirez says, "i want this to end." and the fight is over. >> danny: great for henry ramirez. he has my respect. >> virgil: lives to fight another day. >> brian: chris arreola had seen enough. busted up by deontay wilder, wilder gets his 36th knockout. he is 37-0. he did his job. arreola did his best. who could be next?
