happening right now, many are on edge following a week of violence in louisiana, minnesota, now texas. tonight in philadelphia, protesters once again taking to the streets to rally against police brutality after two black men were killed by police. it comes the night after a peaceful protest in dallas that turned violent leaving five police officers dead and another seven injured. much of this nation still in shock tonight. good evening, i'm chris oh com. >> i'm dawn timmeney. it was the deadliest day for law enforcement since the attacks on 9/11. here's more from dallas. gun map murders five police officers injures seven others and two civilians. the officers were watching over a peaceful demonstration in dallas as many marched to protest two black men killed by police in louisiana and minnesota. then a gunman turned his arrival on them. police say he was angry about those shootings and wanted to kill as many white people especially police officers as possible. >> through our investigation of some of the suspects it's revealed to us that this was a well-planned, well-thought out, evil tragedy by these suspects, and we won't rest until we bring everyone involved to justice. (applause). >> you can see an officer here catches the shooter. his bullets appear to strike the sniper's vest. the killer turns on the officer and shoots him. authorities say the shooter held police in an hours long standoff. it ended when police detonate add robot delivered explosive device killing the suspect. four officers killed work for dallas police department. two were confirmed michael crawl and patrick, another brent thompson the first officer of the dallas area rapid transit police department to die on du duty. law enforcement officials say the dead shooter is micah xavier johnson enlisted army reserve soldier. new york times reports the 25-year-old had no criminal record in dallas, nor involvement in political groups like plaque lives matter. less than 24 hours later a vigil downtown to remember those who died. police chief david brown says the investigation continues. mayor mike rawlings says his community must rid itself of this cancer of separatism. >> i choose those words and i believe this city will be better and see better days. >> right. >> because of the lives that were lost last night. >> amen. >> god bless dallas. >> yes. >> god bless texas. >> police say they have searched the suspects home and they have found bomb-making materials. >> they also found a ballistic vest, rifles, ammunition and a personal journal with combat tactics. protests are happening here in philadelphia. they have been peaceful so far. and of course they're coming in the wake of the deadly police shootings of those two black men in rat ton rouge, louisiana, and falcon heights, minnesota. the shootings of and by police officers is dominating the headlines tonight. and residents here in philadelphia are responding with action. fox 29's joanne pileggi was right in the middle of very passionate crowd from center city. >> reporter: a rally cry not a battle cry. from north philly to center city this passionate group protesting and marching peacefully through one of the city's main arteries. growing in number as the evening passed. >> we're out here to basically educate people on what's going on ton bring people together and make a stand like positive stand and educated move. >> everybody ready? yeah. >> reporter: darrell walker calling his group the rise of a nation. part of a movement in cities across the country after fatal police shoots in louisiana and minnesota provoked outrage and protests culminating with last night's assault on police in dallas that left five officers dead. >> it's very angry and it's very testy right now before we did anything we talked to the police. we told them we don't want no bloodshed but we do want change. >> reporter: this rally in march was book ended by philadelphia police trying to make sure no one gets hurt while allowing the protest toss move through center city. >> we will continue to provide protection for the march. i mean we're cutting off the streets ahead of time make sure there's no traffic fatalities nobody getting hit by cars. give them reasonable amount of space to voice their opinions. >> reporter: the group grew larger collect morgue people as they passed through the city streets. >> i'm glad to see that, um, the young brothers and sisters are out here trying to say something and do it peacefully, but i would just -- i hope you all are getting the fact that the police officers are protecting them as they move through the city, and i think -- we as black people need to acknowledge the fact that, upping, we're being protected in spite of our disagreement, in spite of our protests against the very ones that are -- that are protecting us. >> reporter: from what we observed there were no problems except for some traffic detours. walker said he achieved his go goal. these peaceful protests which he hopes to continue through the democratic convention to keep these very divisive issues front and center. we're live tonight in center city. joanne pileggi, fox 29 news. back to you in the studio. >> joanne, thanks. naacp in baton rouge, louisiana is making sure its voice is heard tonight. >> they're calling for peace and justice at the wake of the deadly shooting of alton sterling. members gathered for news conference this afternoon they want justice after the 3784 old was shot and kill outside of a convenience store on tuesday. according to investigators, officers shot sterling during a confrontation when police say they saw a gun on sterling. community active visits are demanding justice. >> we want action now. >> right now. >> we want it now. it's not a new thing. it's not something that just happen. i'm saying this. we are a peaceful people. we don't want violence. we're not exposing violence. we want peace. >> that's right. >> but we also want justice. >> that's right. >> meanwhile, days after the deadly police shooting of phil dough castile speaking in response to the police shooting in dallas. >> i mick an appeal to everyone in minnesota for calm, for understanding of this difficult time of need for calm and non-violence and we'll get through this, this terrible time here in minnesota. >> dayton also defended comments he meant yesterday suggesting race may have played role in the death of castile. he says a thorough investigation will reveal the answer. and today presumptive presidential nominee hillary clinton weighing in on this week of violence. >> she spoke tonight at african methodist episcopal convention in center city. let's get out to shawnette wilson who was at the event. shawnette, i'm sure these shootings took center stage tonight. >> reporter: they did, chris and dawn. first of you will all hillary clinton arrived and left to standing ovation. chris, as you mentioned energy light of those shootings that happened this week, her entire speech focused on race and gun violence. >> we pray for those families and for the souls of everyone we lost this week and in all the weeks preceding. >> presumptive democratic nominee hillary clinton drew praise and standing ovations throughout her speech this evening during the african methodist episcopal convention in sent city. she wasted tonight. talking about the lives lost at the hands of police lost this week at baton rouge and minnesota and the fatally ambush in dallas aft night. >> for alton's grieving children, for the four-year-old girl who bravely comforted her mother as philando died in front of them, for the families of those police officers who lived every day with the fear that something like this could happen and we'll always be proud of their service and sacrifice. >> reporter: some members of the ame church say clinton hit the mark on concern in the black community. >> it is erroneous we would be treated like second class citizens and be shot down and murdered and killed. it's a really trying time for. >> our young boys have been the target really, and it seems as though that it's out of control. >> reporter: carl davis attending the convention from tech text and says gun violence is running rampant. he was relieved to clear people recall the nine people murdered in an ame church in south carolina last year. >> that still has a hurting place in our heart. because we open our church home to people of all races. >> reporter: others wanted to hear her lay out a plan for keeping all races safe from gun violence. >> the violence needs to stop. we all one. that's what i think about it. we all one weather we black, white, yellow or green. >> reporter: and back here live, people we talked to also say that they feel that clinton maintained a good balance between acknowledging those cries that are pouring from the black community as well as addressing the fear that police officers live with every day. dawn, back to you. >> atlantic county and ocean county saw torrential tropical downpours. we still have a flash flood warning for sections of burlington and atlantic until 12:15am the heaviest of the rainfall moving away from atlantic city and brigantine but look at some of the doppler estimates just north of bensalem over 3-inches around galloway moving toward pleasantville in atlantic county about 4-inches of rain. advertising. peaceful protests are taking place across the country tonig tonight. demonstrators protesting in atlanta tonight marching against the police shootings in minnesota and louisiana. the demonstrators blocked downtown highway while facing off against police officers. the justice department has launched an investigation into those shootings. both men were shot and killed by police. they were african-american. well, a somber night in dallas. not a car to be seen on this highway as the honor guard escorts the body of a fallen dallas police officer in thursday's slayings it made for the deadliest day for us law enforcement since 9/11. >> elsewhere in dallas people are putting flowers on police cars to remember those five officers who were killed by a sniper last night. president obama has described the attack as quote vicious and despicable. tonight people across the country are feeling the impact of that ambush against police in dallas. >> here at home, police are taking precautions and leaders of the recent anti police violence protests are also urging calm. here's more from fox 29's brew gordon. >> reporter: in the wake of the dallas police massacre, philadelphia's top cop says officers here will pair up two to squad car till further noti notice. >> you just can't get your brain around, you know, some of the chaos that's going on right now across this nation. >> reporter: with near daily protests threatened and the run up to the democratic national convention, philadelphia police may face the dual threat of safeguarding the free speech rights of those criticizing them while keeping an eye out for a copycat killer looking to emulate the dallas sniper or snipers. >> you can't prepare for that. there's absolute follow way to do that. you have to be ready for it and be trained for it which we are. >> reporter: philly chapter of black lives matter released a statement on friday that said in part "black active visits have raised the call for an end to violence, not an escalation of it. yesterday's attack was the result of the actions of a lone gunman. to assign the actions of one person to an entire movement is dangerous and irresponsible ". >> this complicate relationship with law enforcement and the community. we need each other but we got these issues between us and we recognize their humanity so you know my heart goes out to those families. >> reporter: the reverend mark tyler was among the organizers of the clergy led protest against police misconduct thursday evening. he asks that police protesters not be tarred by the actions of the lone or even a few gunmen. just as he asks his protesters to remember there are lots and lots of good cops. >> in our marches to hear the kind of chants that i guess if i was you know an officer i would probably think there's no way i'll hang around this march they're talking about police in this way but they are there, and they would literally jump in that front of bullet i your winning lottery numbers. ♪ a police officer is ambushed and shot in south georgia after investigators say the suspect made call to 911 trying to lure the officer to the scene. officer randall hancock responded to call of a car break in outside of an apartment complex this morning. that's when investigators say steven beck shot officer hancock several times. the officer did return fire. both are expected to survive their injuries. police did not release details of a motive. in utah, a patient with zika virus has died. >> this is the first death related to the virus in the continental united states. officials say the person contracted the virus while traveling abroad but that the patient was elderly and suffered from an underlying health condition. the exact cause of death is not been determined and officials say it might be difficult to figure out a direct link. >> this tragic situation, however, does not change the public health message about zika of the last several months specifically there is no risk of mosquito born exposure to zika in utah. >> officials say people traveling to areas experiencing active mosquito born transmission of zika need to protect ts hundreds not going to be a quick one. septa says system wide delays will most likely run through labor day. septa is now making a new summer schedule and it is announcing it is leasing temporary rail cars from other transit systems including amtrak. 115 of the 120 silver line cars were taken out of service because of structural issues and this is quickly becoming an expensive defect for septa. costing them millions of dollars in leasing and employee overtime costs. not to helping refunds it is now making to customers. well, some scattered storms in parts of our region tonight. >> brad sattin talked to some residents in bucks county who saw some flooding. some even lost their power. >> reporter: guys, we are in trevose at the corner of central avenue and street road had chance short time ago to talk to the fire chief. he tells me this is one of three areas that saw some pretty significant flooding earlier this evening. this spot in fact right here want to take look at the photo here from few hours ago. take a look at this. the driver of this car telling me that a truck was ahead of her car that truck was able to pass through the water, she was behind it and she got stuck with a three-year-old and a six-year-old in the car with her. at one point, the water was up she says to the windows. neighbors rushed over. they were able to help her. everybody is okay. meanwhile neighbors describing some really wicked rains here making for some dangerous driving conditions creating that flash flooding around the area. it was somewhat isolated but water, of course, you should never drive through. despite this video this comin cg the nottingham fire department cars are getting through but again very dangerous. meanwhile power lines were down off of street road. could have been the result of lightning we're told. peco reporting about 1600 customers without power around southampton and bensalem. certainly for some a rough night tonight. >> it was so torrential. the -- you couldn't see out the window. you know how when it gets misty and foggy and we're sitting in the living room and because we had to run in we were sitting outside, but it was just blowing and intense. >> when it comes down fast and hard like that the roads just can't handle it. looked like the river coming down the street. white water. >> reporter: the good news here tonight no reports of any injuries and just like that as you can see, the water is gone. in trevose, brad sattin fox 29 news. different story in wilmington, delaware right now. it's dry and temperatures are still in the 70s. it's feeling a whole lot more comfortable than this time last night. scott williams here to tell fuss the heat wave is just about. what's up, scott? it. >> looks like, dawn, we could hit 90 degrees again tomorrow in the philadelphia area so perhaps extenting it for one more day as we take look overall across the area for your saturday, there's that 90-degree temperature in center city. more pop-up scattered downpours along with the daytime heating. down the shore mid 80s. maybe a late day storm. the poke faux mountains a pair of sevens. scattered showers and thunderstorms in the forecast again mainly during the heat of the day. look at ultimate doppler. much improved, much settled from earlier this afternoon. we still have that flash flood warning for sections of atlantic county also southern burlington county. you can see all of the torrential downpours now moving out to sea. so as we zoom in a little closer you can see the last hoorah of that rain is moving away from atlantic city but take a look at some of the ultimate doppler rainfall estimates. in sections of bucks county over 3-inches just north of the bensalem area. also, moving in to atlantic county. mullica, galloway towards pleasant you can see 4-inches of rainfall. it's still pretty steamy stepping outdoors. 76 degrees right now. dew points close to 70. so as we look at the temperatures right now, it's still 77 in millville. 78 in wilmington. 76 right now in the lehigh valley. so tomorrow morning it's going to be muggy start out there. partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies. look at the clock. by 2:00 in the afternoon pop up showers and thunderstorms kind of similar to today, not everyone will see them but if you do, head indoors and also be prepared for some of those torrential downpours across the area. then things settle down for saturday night and then sunday lower humidity and more comfortable temperatures before we heat things up next week. so 75 in the city. 69 in the burbs. 90 degrees the high temperature in philadelphia for tomorrow. with those pop-up storms during the afternoon mid 80s tomorrow down the shore. 84 degrees on sunday. sunday the better of the two days down the shore because it will be a little more comfortable. what about the pocono mountains scattered showers and thunderstorms tomorrow. 77 degrees for the high temperature. mid 70s on sunday. dry, pleasant and comfortable and the seven day forecast from the weather authority staying hot tomorrow those scattered downpours not everyone will see them. heat eases on sunday. that's the pick day of the weekend lower humidity, 86 for the high temperature. upper 80s on monday and look at tuesday, hot again, 90, none wednesday. 92 thursday. and 93 degrees next friday. so it look like we'll head into heat wave in oregon when a man pulls a gun. michael strickland tells police he drew his gun because he feared for his life. people were peacefully protesting the police shootings of alton sterile and philando castile when strickland says he tried to talk to some of the marchers despite cell phone video that suggest otherwise, he says the crowd surrounded him and he felt threatened. he is charged with menacing and diss orally conduct. well there is new information tonight about the man accused of of carrying out last night's sniper ambush against police in dallas. >> as the investigation continues, now investigating incidents of officers being targeted. including in the st. louis area where a 31-year-old black man is accused of shooting an officer during a traffic stop friday. ambushing him as them he was upset about recent police shootings of black men and he wanted to kill white officers. in dallas, joel waldman, fox news. and president obama is set to visit dallas early next week cutting short his european trip. the white house says the president will focus on efforts to support police while tackling the quote persistent racial disparities in the criminal justice system. tonight in officials along with rapper snoop dog and the game holding a news conference this afternoon to talk about divisions in society. the pair met with city leaders beforehand to talk about community relations. >> our whole mission today was to move in peace and to show la can be unified and not to bash the police but to come up here and get some dialogue and some communication because we're all angels. >> the news conference was followed by a peaceful march to the lapd headquarters. well on day of such heart ache and shock we want to show you an example of a community and police working together with heart warming results. >> tennessee suspect attacked an officer who was trying to arrest him fortunately a retired marine was nearby ready to help. fox's jarita paterson has their story. >> reporter: tuesday afternoon this retired marine saw something he never expected. >> brave enough to be fighting with a police officer in the middle of the street. >> reporter: that's exactly what he saw while driving towards madison avenue here in midtown. according to a police report, this man, michael green, was trying to sell an ebt card just outside this grocery store. an officer moved in and tried patting green down, where it was discover the 29-year-old was carrying a steal pipe. while green was being handcuffed, he allegedly started beating the officer. >> people was just at a bit of a shock. >> reporter: tate says his training as a marine and peace officer kicked in. >> his job as police officer is to, you know, protect the public and at that time he was the one needing protecting. >> reporter: the officer was left bruised and scratched all over his body. his face also swollen. still tate says things could have turned tragic. in fact, this father of five who doesn't often visit this part of town said this is where he was supposed to be to help an officer in trouble. >> i'm not a hero. i'm a person that saw another human being whether police officer or anything needing some kind of help, and that could have been very fatal. >> reporter: shortly after that scuffle, police were able to regain control. green was cuffed and carried away from madison avenue right here to popular. green facing several charges the most serious attempted second degree murder. the story will continue covering we'll bring updates as they become available. reporting at the criminals? sis tender jarita paterson fox news. >> a trip to mcdonald's goes horribly wrong for a woman and her grandson when their car was swallowed by a sink hole. here's the aftermath of the incident when the car got stuck in a hole 10 by 10-foot hole. water came rushing inside with four-year-old angel right there sitting in his car seat. quite the scare for hill and his grandma. first responders say they were lucky they weren't harmed. >> she obviously saw that the ground was compromised there so she stopped as she was entering that parking lot. she stopped short of that but the water was too much apparently that ground gave way and the next thing she knew the nose of her vehicle was nose down in the water. >> scary stuff. fire officials say that zinc hole was most likely caused by a water main break. people are calling a pennsylvania man father of the year after a picture of him sleeping goes viral. this is andre palmer under his son's hospital crib. it was posted on facebook by his wife amy. their son aj was getting treatment for an asthma attack at a new york hospital. devoted dad came from a nine-hour overnight shift because he wanted to make sure he was there for his little boy. good news here is that aj is now home safe and sound and the whole family can comfortably get some rest. >> a remorseful pants thief doesn't return the stolen goods but instead leaves an apology note with some cash. fox's lindsay eaton has the details. >> reporter: homeowner checked her mailbox expecting a package. instead she found cash with a handwritten note on it. >> i was just dumb founded i was like who does that? who leaves money an note behind? who does that? >> reporter: this 20-dollar bill along with five extra bucks it's the unexpected delivery that showed up in lesley miller's mailbox. >> i was disappointed to say the least. >> reporter: over the weekend miller was waiting on package g i had been searching for weeks for this certain pair, this certain pattern i found it and was excited when i got the shipment notice and then came back and no pants. >> reporter: friday she checked her mailbox, no package. on saturday, she check her mailbox again and again no package. instead 25 bucks and an apology note. on the back of the 20 handwritten in a black marker it says "stole your pants, felt sorry about it". >> it's a great gesture and you felt bad about it but it's still -- it doesn't make up for the fact that you stole out of a mailbox or stole somebody's property that's not yours. >> reporter: miller asked her neighbors if the thief hit them. so far she's the only one. >> it's not like they were huge and sat on my porch. no, it fit in my mailbox. >> reporter: it took less than a day for the thief to have change of heart. while miller appreciates the i'm sorry she questions it. >> if uri morse full about something, return what you sto stole. not something to replace it. >> reporter: the clearly the thief thought the pants were just their style because they kept them. miller knows it's a stretch she hopes to catch the thief in the act. >> if you're going to wear them somebody will notice you're wearing them. >> reporter: if the thief really wanted to cover the cost of the crime he or she still owes $10. miller says keep the change, not her pants. >> return them where you took them. >> well miller says she doesn't want to get helped reunite them with their missing dog. a woman found toby this shiatsu poodle mick last week she saved the dog from being hit by oncoming traffic that. good samaritan tried to find the owners but to no avail. in the meantime the family had turned to social media to find toby. after the story was shared the woman who picked up the dog was able to figure out who his owners were and reunite toby
