watching their steps. but the snow is coming down at a pretty steady clip right now. the roadways are mainly wet. but it is going to be a sloppy weekend across our area. in fact let's talk about what's happening on the satellite and radar look at all of that moisture streaming in from the south. you can see the green, that is the rain and the white that is the snow. take a look. chadds ford, west chester moving toward media drexel hill philadelphia, mullica hill and bensalem all looking at some of that wintry precipitation. so it's moving in right now. mainly rain in extreme south jersey sections of southern delaware but we have several hours to get through and temperatures will be critical. as we go hour by hour, by 1:00 a.m. we're looking at snowfall around philadelphia points north and west. temperatures right around freezing. that magic number and as we go toward 5:00 a.m. you can see that yellow and green that's pretty moderate to heavy rainfalling moving into the philadelphia area as well as south and east of i-95. so by sunrise tomorrow many locations will change over to rain. north and west, toward the lehigh valley and the poconos we'll see that sleet and snow linger a little longer but we get a second shot of some snow around the philadelphia area by saturday afternoon and evening before this system pulls away. so in addition to that snow, we have to be concerned about a little bit of icing especially north and west. we can see about a tenth of an inch. winter weather advisories through saturday across much of the area. so the bottom line that system has already begun instead yesterday snow that window from 2:00 a.m. until 5am and then the change over to mainly rain as we move toward 5am and 8am saturday. when i come inside i'll have the latest snowfall total map as well as when to expect that second system moving in later on during your weekend. back to you, chris and karen. >> thank you scott. >> also we've been warned and so we are ready. penndot trucks loading up ready to role right near norristown one of the hubs crews very busy for the busy night and the busy weekend with the storm. a long day to stay on top of things on saturday and then looking ahead to sunday night and whatever comes on monday morning. so certainly a very long weekend for all of those workers. and we are also starting to see precipitation in the southern region. just about everywhere. let's check in with joanne pileggi she's in claymont, delaware. joanne, it looks like it's raining snow where you are. >> reporter: yes karen. here's my bat bet if you step outside you'll turn around quickly gone inside. it's a real mixture. more probably wet than white. the roads are wet. the ground is a little bit white white. so there goes the suppression wintry mix. we found a lot of people out tonight trying to get what they need before it turns from bad to what could be worse. mechanical seems to be operating on kevin's snowplow and he's more than enthusiastic about the snowy forecast. >> i'm up for some snow. when it comes down white it's all green to me. >> reporter: we may not get deep snow this time around but it's enough to start the snowball effect of stocking up just in case. >> last year we had really really bad weather and i was at home for like a week without being able to go out. so i just -- i just want to be safe right? >> reporter: well, chris we're told she's in stable condition but intensive care breathing with the help of two stents in her nose and in the meantime children and youth services is investigateing. >> very shocking. >> neighbors on the 300 block of popular road in darby and saddened to hear about a one month old baby girl who's face was mauled by three of her family's pet ferrets. >> 25% of what i heard of her face and she's going to have, you know, surgeries in the future. >> reporter: thomas collins lives a few doors down from the family. darby police got the call around 3:30 thursday afternoon about an infant hurt. >> the ferrets did chew the infant's nose, top lip and his cheek area. they had eaten that area way. >> the ferrets got out of a cloth like cage with a zipper on. the mother had the child in her car seat sitting on the floor. when upstairs and then she heard the baby screaming. >> very sad. very tragic. feel bad. >> reporter: neighbor who says she notice the family says she doesn't know how this could happen. >> they are cautious with their pets. and, um, they're -- they watch out for their children. so it probably was freak accident. >> reporter: the baby was taken to chop for surgery and was in stable condition friday morning but in intensive care. the family has five kids total between one month and five year years old. they had six cats and two turtles and three ferrets. there was little to know food but plenty of pet in the house in deplorable condition. >> these kids need to be protected. all five of them. and it's not that they're bad parents. it's just that the children are not being taken care of. >> reporter: and police tell us they're waiting to hear from the district attorney's office as to whether they can file any charges against the parents. karen? >> all right, shawnette breaks your heart. we've got another horrible story involving a young baby. deptford new jersey couple charged with abusing their own 11 week old baby. police were tipped off when hospital employees called to report a possible case of child abuse. the baby boy wasn't taken to dupont hospital for children in will ming had fractures to his legs and ribs. police arrested his parents and chargeed with them child abysms the baby is in protective custody. >> a suspect who sparked l sparked an amber alert when his wife and children disappeared is back in philadelphia. cortez hamilton facing assault and endangering the welfare of a child. his wife keisha and two children disappeared from smyrna. he was caught in indiana with his four-year-old daughter and his two mold old son much those childrenly were physically unharmed their mother still missing. now on to developing story out of north philadelphia. skyfox over the scene as police investigated a deadly shooting of a teenaged boy. they say a 17-year-old victim was shot in the chest just before 6:00 tonight on the 2,000 block of north lambert street. he was rushed to temple hospital where he later died. so far no arrests. also developing at this hour hour philadelphia major crimes unit investigators are at the straight eight auto body located on the 1200 block of north carolina lyle street where a tow squad is seizing 20 cars. police say for some insurance issues and unpaid towing bills. we'll stay on top of this story and bring you more details as they become available. >> volunteer firefighter is facing very serious criminal charges. 20-year-old john corcoran charged with more than 150 counts of sexual assault on children. some as young as eight. sabina kuriakose reports the details from delaware county. >> used to play with the kid next door here. the kids from up the street they have young kids they would go down there once a in awhile. >> reporter: neighborhood rocked by allegations the boy next tour was luring, grooming and raping children inside his again olden home. >> makes me sick to my stomach. >> reporter: delaware county authorities charging 20-year-old john corcoran with 161 counts of child rape indecent assault and other charges. spanning last two years. >> what do you want kids to know? >> no comment. >> reporter: accusations came to light when corcoran former volunteer firefighter was arrested in august for allegedly setting fires then helping colleagues put them out. the alleged victims range in age from eight to 14 years old. >> led to a spiral effect where we then started seeing that there were multiple victims here children that have been brutally victimized as a result of his behavior. >> reporter: da jack whelan says some of the abuse occurred in the showers and locker room of the ridley ymca where corcoran were you a member. eastern delaware county community ymca ceo says the y was inform of the da's investigation but insists they didn't have details and he admits parents still not been informed about what may have happened here. whelan says staff members continuously staffed facility were told to remain vigilant as is standard practice. >> that's very alarming much that's very -- i don't sit well with that at all. um children, you know they haven't have their innocence taken like that. >> reporter: police believe there are more vick testimony out and more charges could be coming. they say corcoran was abusing kids when he was as young as 16 years old. sabina kuriakose, fox 29 news. >> young woman finds herself staring at a gun and the neck thing she knows she's locked in her own trunk. >> i just happened to be there. it could have happened to anybody. >> why she says terrifying attack has actually made her life better. plus, it was a long shot but divers managed to uncover a major break in a decades old cold case. what led them to a murky canal after 36 years. >> we promise we do have good news in this newscast. new movie about to start shooting right here in philadelphia. the sets are already popping up all around town. so is sylvester stallone. we're hot on rocky's trail coming up. don't forget -- forget needle point bingo. these seniors are snow tubing. why riders as old as 9 >> suspect questioned in massive fire that burned five buildings near pittsburgh. officials say the fire actually started this morning in attacks preparation office. in one of the buildings and quickly spread. sick people were able to escape. there's no word on their injuries. community leaders in bridgeton, new jersey, are calling for peace in that community in the wake of a routine traffic stop that led to the death of a local man at the hands of police. our bruce gordon reports from that area where people are hoping there will not ab row pet to any of the violent protests we've seen in other parts of the country. >> reporter: local religious leaders went before cameras and microphones to you were patience and avoid a rush to judgment. after an incident that could have torn this community apart. >> what i want to say to you this is a call for peace and unity. this is not a time for us to be upset. justice will take its course i truly believe that. >> officer days bridgeton police. the reason we're pulling you off you went through that stop sign back there. >> reid was a passenger in a jaguar stopped by bridgeton police for rolling through a stop sign. >> so me your hands. show me your bleep hands. show me your hands. don't believe move. sew don't you bleep move. >> the routine stop turns tense. officer rah hematoma days sees a gun in the gov comart many. reid pushes his way out of the car and approaches the officer with his hands up. they fire several shots at the unarmed man. surveillance video showing the suspects using a truck to rip out the atm from a gas station. police say the robbers made off with more than $3,000 cash. a break in an almost 30-year-old cold case. there was a car belonging to a young teenaged couple they disappeared back in 1978 brought out of a florida canal. investigators believe the remains found inside that 1969 dodge belonged to the couple. the car was first noticed by an employee doing routine maintenance earlier this month. officials hope the discovery helps the missing teens families dealing with this mystery for so many years. 11 year old girl is recognized for saving her grandmother's life. kendall still well of burbank california says she knew she had to do something or her grandmother would die. rita was having a just minutes. authorities say an undercover internet stink lands a bucks county man behind bars. they say he intended to sexually assault two boys. investigators in montgomery county say 54-year-old curt crumb holts used the internet to reach out to his potential victims. officials say he scheduled a meeting thinking he would meet up with two boys ages 14 and 13. detectives say he was going to perform a sex act on the pair. cops arrested him at the meet up location in east norriton. man robs, car jax and kid naps a woman at a drive up atm in texas. surveillance video shows the man walking up to the woman's car window threatening her at gun point. and then he demands her money. orders her out of the car and forces her into the trunk before he drives off. now the victim manages manages eventual toll break frue a couple miles of later by pulling on an emergency latch in the trunk and now she's got a message for that kidnapper. >> i'm still here. i'm still working. i'm still living my life as i should be. probably even better now because i'm focusing on more positive things. thank you. i'm still alive. i hope you get caught. >> the vick testimony says she believes this was a crime of opportunity. safety experts say you should always be award of your surroundings. a brave pizza delivery driver in georgia is opening up about the night she opened fire on two men. this woman who only wants to be referred to as t was on her very first pizza delivery run for papa i don't know's were man attempted to rob her as she pulled up with the pizza. t says the man ordered her to get on the ground and credits what was in her pocket for saving her life. i took my gun out of my pock and i placed it on my stomach and i laid on it. so i was on the ground like this this. >> t says second man approached her and that's when she took action and fired the gun. she ran off and started knocking on doors until one woman let her in and they called the cops. let's take look at your radar right now. we've got nor'easter over most of the delaware valley, scott. >> a sloppy one karen and chris. temperatures right now just 2 degrees above freezing and you can see that snow it's falling right here at fourth and market. light snow mixing in with a little bit of sleet. but look at the wind direction. out of the south at 5 miles an hour. so those temperatures will stay marginal really throughout this and tire event. but nonetheless winter weather advisories posted for much of the area watch out for slick roads not only tonight but tomorrow and even sunday night into monday with our second system reduced visibility as well. various types of precipitation. snow sleet rain, some freezing rain possible as well. especially north and west and gusty winds especially along the coast with that nor'easter but look at the slug of moisture continuing to move in and you can see that battleground if you will that line of transition right along theism november corridor rain to the south snow and sleet along it and north and west mainly just all snow. but we'll zoom in a little closer. you can see wilmington salem mullica hill moving into the medford lakes area mt. holly bensalem norristown west chester, media looking at some of that snow and sleet right now. but look at the temperatures. we're freezing in pottstown as well as lancaster but 34 degrees in wilmington. 36 right now in wildwood. so as we look at that hour by hour forecast, we are looking at temperatures a few degrees above freezing. so it will be a rain and snow sleet mix overnight and early tomorrow morning likely changing over to mainly rain. we'll time it out for you by 1:00 a.m. you can see along i-95 we're still looking at some of that snow. north and west but mainly rain south jersey and sections of delaware. so when you wake up tomorrow morning, mainly rain philadelphia south and east. north and west keep things a little icy and dicey a little longer. but by the afternoon some colder air work its way back into the system changing things over to, yes, more of the wintry precipitation. that's the first system. the second system, it will arrive late in the day on sunday so as we advance the clock sunday night, 10:00 p.m., here's the clipper. moving in to colder air than what we're dealing with now. main al snow event across our area with the second system and we could pick up several additional inches. so what about the icing north and west. we could see about a tenth of an inch. so that could create more problems on top of what we're dealing with with the rain and sleet across much of the area early on saturday. mainly rain down the shore. inland sections one to two or more inches. slushy accumulations and then north and west where it stays colder longer that's where we could see two to four plus inches toward the lehigh valley and the poconos in particular as you move higher up in elevations. what about the second system? sunday night into monday? impacting that monday morning commute. we could see area wide good coverage of two to four maybe even little more inches with that system, of course, meteorologist caitlin roth will update this forecast beginning at 8:00 a.m. on the fox 29 weekend news. but of course we're looking at that rain and snow arriving tonight and then as we take look tomorrow. upper 30s. a soggy saturday so plan some indoor activities at least the first part of the day. and those roads are going to be a little icy and dicey. we'll get a little bit of a lull but sunday night into monday that's the second system with the snow and then look at those temperatures. only in the 20s for much of next week. high temperatures overnight lows in the teens. >> yeah. i see those teens. chilly. >> yeah. >> you ready to get freezing for the center city stop. they'll improve customer service experience by providing more up to date train rifle and departure information. this is just a pilot program but the goal is to eventually add these boards to many other stations. in your money tonight some big changes for a credit card giant. mastercard is lifting a block on transactions in cuba. starting march 1st mastercard will remove the current block on u.s. issued credit cards. the move coming as the us and cuba try to normalize relations and relax travel and trade restrictions between the two countries. card holders are being told to check with their banks before visiting cuba to make sure the card will work on the island. and uber the car service is rolling out a new feature called uber pool. it let's you share a ride for them next week. instead of selfies two suspect thieves in houston will have mug shot pictures after police say they were caught red handed with a stolen i-pad. police arrested dylan thomas and dorian walker after investigators say the two took more than 17 selfies with an i-pad earlier this month. well here's the deal. the pictures automatically up loaded on the rightful owner's i cloud account. officers on the scene during thompson's arrest said the suspect didn't know what anism cloud was and didn't realize how it could be used by investigator investigators. is it possible to tweet to death? well a new study suggests just that. the study was done by researchers at the university of pennsylvania. it compared heart disease data from the centers for disease control to the use of hateful or angry tweets in 1300 u.s. counties. as you can see by this map coming up, they're nearly identical much the results show negative tweets can be linked to higher rates of heart disease deaths. >> we've known through multiple different studies that depression anger hostility being quick to react increases your risk of heart disease through the stress hormones that get releaseed. >> given the evidence the study open goes as far to say that twitter is a good better predictor of heart disease than smokeing, diabetes, income, education and obesity combined. >> all right. aarp
