for a killer who took a mother's life. the question tonight is why? and right now, police are trying to determine if this case could be connected to any others. good evening, i'm dawn timmeney in tonight for iain page. >> i'm lucy noland. let's get right to chris o'connell live at police headquarters tonight. chris? report. >> now we're all afraid there's lunatic out here, and this can happen to anyone. >> reporter: residents who live near pennypack park and still on edge knowing a killer is still out there. >> there's a killer in that area. we'll do everything we can to find him and bring him to justice. >> reporter: police say there are no suspects and no motive but they are tracking down many leads. police say the mother of two was last seen going out for a jog about 9:00 o'clock monday night. her body was found early tuesday morning in a wooded area near crispin gardens rec center. her cell phone and headphones were also missing. a memorial now stands where murray's body was found. paul, walks his dog here every night. >> some sick company was able to sneak in and do something like that. we're scared. we're hurt. but we're also angered. >> reporter: police say there were no signs of a sexual assault but police are warning women in the area not to walk alone. >> it's petrifying to me. i don't go anywhere by myself and especially i wouldn't even jog or walk anywhere by myself. >> i think, oh, my husband is right, i really shouldn't go outside after dark which is such a terrible thing. when you live around here you think that you are living in a really nice enabled. >> reporter: now, police will be looking at surveillance video they've obtained from homes in the area. meantime, there's a $20,000 reward leading to information that leads to an arrest in many case. dawn? >> all right, certainly is frightening. thank you, chris tonight a 21 year old motorcyclist is in critical condition after police say he was cut off by a van. this happened just after 3:00 o'clock this afternoon. it was on the 200 block of oregon avenue. police say the victim was riding his motorcycle when the van pulled out of a parking lot causing him to crash. now the driver of the van did stay at the scene. no word on any charges tonight. >> surveillance video shows a man pulling off quite a burglary. police say he used a key to get inside a cash room at a northeast philadelphia wal*mart it happened sunday night at the store at the franklin mills mall. it's not clear how the man got the key in the first place. police say he took money bags and made his way out through a back entrance. a woman whose dog was poisoned with antifreeze now says someone is trying to hurt her other pets and she says she's got the video to prove it. fox 29's shawnette wilson is live in mantua, gloucester county. shawnette? >> reporter: lucy, that woman took precautions after the first incident, but that has not been enough. she believes someone is now trying to poison her other two pets and she wants that person caught. >> i did it to protect not only, you know, my son and the chihuahua but my new puppy, you know, i don't think we could do this again. >> reporter: man today put up this tall fence around the backyard of herman chew what home months ago. and installed a security camera. so she was shocked two weeks ago to see what it captured. watch. it appears someone is throwing things over the fence into her yard. worrisome amanda says because someone poisoned her rotweiler bella last april. >> she couldn't get up. i thought she was just being lazy so like i kind of like nudged her and she was not moving. i had to carry her to the car. >> reporter: one year old bella had been poisoned with antifreeze. amanda learned when she took her to the vet and had to euthanize her. she says she found a bowl in her yard. >> to be honest i couldn't believe it. i couldn't believe someone would do that at all. >> reporter: amanda also had a chihuahua and soon after she got this rescue rotweiler named gracie. things were quite until this happened two weeks ago. >> i found a good size meat bone with meat in it thrown in my yard. and then last weekend a pig foot in my yard like fresh from the butcher meet and everything. >> chief sawyer says they had a person of interest in the april death of bella a neighbor who complained that the dog was vicious but there wasn't enough evidence to charge that person. >> because of the history and the prior event, we're taking this as a credible act and mak making sure that we'll be in the area and making sure no other animals are hurt. >> reporter: police are not sure if the incidents are related. in the meantime they're asking neighbors to report anything suspicious. dawn? >> all right, thank you shawnette. there are new developments tonight on the ebola outbreak. cdc activating the highest level of its response at its emergency operations center. this as liberia declares a state of emergency. at least 932 people have died from the virus so far. and right now, there is no fda approved treatment or vaccine for e buy bowl la although researchers at auburn university are working on a treatment that seems to help boost the immune system. president barack obama attending the us africa leader summit addressing the outbreak today. >> it is important to remind ourselves this is not an airborne disease. this is one that can't be controlled and and contains very effectively if we use the right protocols. >> two americans being treated for the virus in atlanta are said to be doing well. plus we have learned tonight that a patient in isolation at new york's mount sinai hospital does not have ebola virus. >> u.s. army general killed in afghanistan is coming home with the first stop at dover air force base in delaware. major general harold green died yesterday in an attack on a military base near kabul. investigators say a man dressed in an afghan army uniform opened fire on the compound. 15 other people including americans are hurt. the military will fly green's to the u.s. in the coming days. >> he is the highest ranking officer to die in combat since 1970. >> a dramatic rescue off the coast of atlantic city unfolds before our eyes. the coast guard had to medivac a man from a fishing boat. the call came from right around 9:15 this morning. the chopper moved right in. first mate had hurt his hand and the coast guard used a basket to hoist the 53 year old to safety. an ambulance was waiting for him on the ground in atlantic city. >> protesters raising their voices today outside governor tom corbett's philadelphia office. as the governor announces an advance of $265 million to fund the troubled school district. as fox 29's bruce gordon reports the governor also repeated his call for state lawmakers to allow a new cigarette tax to help fund the schools. >> reporter: philadelphia school children got some good news in the short term. governor corbett says he will authorize an advance of $265 million in state funding money paid up front to the district instead of being disbursed throughout the school year. >> the goal of this action is to allow the doors to open on day one and avoid layoffs. >> reporter: $2 a pack philadelphia only tax on cigarettes would generate on-going revenue. estimated 40 million bucks in the first partial year. but the bill allowing the city to levee the tax stalled in the legislature. so the governor is asking lawmakers yet again to return to harrisburg and finish the job. at city hall some of those lawmakers local state democrats heard mayor nutter say passage of the cigarette tax is the least the legislature can do to help fund philly schools. >> last year was inadequate. next year without these dollars will be a disaster. next year with the dollars is the maintenance of inn adequacy. >> governor corbett notice the cigarette tax would fill just half the district's budget hole. he wants the rest to be filled by philadelphia teachers. >> the union leadership of teachers needs to come to the table to help the students of philadelphia. they are one of only two schoolteacher unions in the entire state that pays nothing to health care in this day and age in 2014. >> pft leadership says they're willing to save the district money on health care. they won't offer details but union president says teachers step up to the plate in ways big and small. >> every day during the course of the year teachers buy paper and other basic supplies for children. they spend thousands of dollars out of their pockets. >> given all the uncertainty both on the cigarette tax and on union concessions it won't surprise you to learn that superintendent hite is still weighing some pretty drastic options like a shorter school year or lots more layoffs. the deadline for making that decision is drawing near. in the newsroom i'm bruce gordon fox 29 news. >> it's more than a year behind bars for a former philadelphia traffic court judge convicted in a fraud scheme. 56 year old robert mull grew plead guilty in september of last year to fraud and conspiracy to commit mail fraud charges. along with his prison term he has to pay almost $200,000 in restitution. the pennsylvania department of community and economic development. he's also paid restitution and penalties to the irs. new steps are taken tonight to make driving safer in delaware. the governor signing legislation requiring everyone convicted of drunk driving in the state to have interlock devices installed on vehicle they drive. now, previously it had only been required for repeat drunk drivers and first time offenders with very high blood alcohol level. >> tonight we have learned revel cass soon know will not hit the bankruptcy auction block tomorrow. the auction now slated for next week. lawyers say they have received multiple offers and need more time to review all of those bids. revel says it will close and layoff 3,000 plus employees if it cannot found a suitable buyer. four atlantic city casinos have already closed or announced plans to shut down this year. and then there is donald trump. he wants his name dropped from two atlantic city cass soon notice and he's suing to get it done. in his sites are the taj mahal, trump taj mahal and trump plaza. he wants trump entertainment resorts to take down his name. trump says the group has failed to maintain the casinos and their poor condition is hurting his personal reputation. trump entertainment resorts has declined to comment on the suit. trump still has a humidity as well as temperatures dropping and double trouble headed right toward hawaii. the update on iselle and julio next. ♪ >> chilling new video tonight showing the moment where is a deadly fire in ocean county. the ocean county prosecutor's office says the video shows a guest identified as john albert tee smoking a cigarette in a lounge just before the fire started back in march. investigators say albert fell asleep while smoking and that is what sparked the flames. take look. this is what the scene looks like. the massive fire breaking out inside the mariners cove motel in pleasant point beach. four people died including albert. 12 other people were hurt. fire officials have ruled that fire accidental. >> the mum% want to make some changes to this year's new year's day parade. here's what they are hoping to change. the judging and the length of the parade. >> but tradition is a big part of the parade in philadelphia. not everyone is happy about breaking that. fox 29's sabina kuriakose joining us live in south philadelphia with a look at what the changes could be and why some people are so upset. >> reporter: dawn we're standing here at the intersection to broad and washington. this is where the mummers parade will end if in fact the routine and it's leaving some in south philly feeling left out. >> change of pace for the storied mummers parade organizers asking the city for permission to reverse the mummers route. >> it will be shorter, more condensed. >> mummers want to get the judging out of the way by starting the parade at city ha hall. the new route would then take marchers down broad street ending on washington avenue. traditionally the mummers route starts deep in south philly on oregon avenue heading north on broad to city hall. >> every costume that my son and i have ever worn gets stored. >> tom loom miss heads the string band association. he says the route change is a reaction to dwindling crowds and an attempt at keeping a philly institution from growing stale. >> moving it out of what we call the traditional heart of the parade was difficult, um, we're still in south philly. we're still at broad and washington avenue. still will be the culmination of of the parade an big part of the parade. >> doing this is really just going to kill this parade, and this is -- this is the people's parade. this is south philly parade. and to do something like this i think is a huge mistake. >> residents are fired up over the proposed changes. kim sound philly born and bread. she wants the mummers to liven up the parade with more community interaction and performances on the traditional routes rather than change it altogether. >> it's just ripping this parade out of its roots in south phil philly, and the parade does not belong in center city. it belongs down here in south philly. >> reporter: and the traditional post party on two street is still going to happen. the city has green lit the change but they found that beetle in shipment of bananas from columbia in july. it came to port in wilmington and this beetle could wreak havoc on our agricultural industry. it is very destructive to a wide variety of plants. but officers did fumigate the shipment and they believe the pest is now gone. happening now, a cease fire on the gaza strip is holding strong. palestinians are using the time to stock up on food and supplies. egyptian negotiators are working separately with palestinian and israeli representatives in cairo. the palestinian delegation says ending the blockade of gaza is a top concern while israel wants the militant group hamas disarm. 72 hour truce is set to expire on friday morning. >> and the prime minister halting the search fourier means from last month's deadly crash of malaysia airlines flight 17. he says it's just too dangerous to continue right now because of fierce fighting in the area between ukrainian forces and pro russian separatists. the prime minister promising victims families the search will resume sometime in the future. that plane was shot down in eastern ukraine killing all 298 people on board. nearly 230 coffins have been returned to the netherlands. >> how dangerous is a bridge in southwest philadelphia? extremely say residents near 51 is the and warrington and tonight they staged a recall toll demand action on that train bridge. neighbors say it's deteriorating and they want it repaired and cleaned up. it's the only way people can cross from one side to the other. children go to school this way. and it's in disrepair. it's hawaii are batoning down the hatches tonight preparing for double trouble. weather officials say two hurricanes are heading its way. hurricane iselle could touchdown by tomorrow night and it would be the first hurricane hawaii has seen in more than 20 years and then there's hurricane julio not too far behind expected to arrive sometime over the weeke weekend. chief meteorologist scott williams is tracking it all, and also what you can expect tomorrow morning. very unusual situation for hawaii, dawn. we're tracking two hurricanes. the first iselle category one at 90 miles per hour. then right on its heels category one julio maximum sustained winds at 75 miles per hour headed right toward hawaii. liking to take a direct hit. it will be the first time in two decades. as we take look at the forecast path you can see by thursday morning, 80 miles per hour sto storm. moving toward the big island by thursday night. a category one hurricane. so major problems in the order of flood concerns for hawaii. we'll continue to monitor that over the next self l several days. wake up weather as we move into your thursday morning, we're looking at temperatures in the mid 60s in the city. it will in a train station. it happened in perth during rush hour. officials say the man slipped as he was getting on the train and fell into that gap between the platform and the car. well they all managed to tilt the car enough to free his leg that was stuck. now a passenger left on the platform flagged down to help the man. that help did pour in. spokesman for the railway says he's amazed by the frightening new images from utah. time lapse video a of landslide pushes towards a road in north salt lake city. the slide destroying fences, trees and a home. neighbors say the family who lives there gets six months in jail for driving nea nearly 125 miles an hour with her two children in the car. police stopped 26 year old cheryl gill son on the main turnpike back in april. she pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child and other charges. now judge sentenced her this week but get this now she's accused of driving under the influence. police say she had been drinking when she was funerals. it is happening near washington. d.c. and police say three times last week someone broke into cars at those funerals. the happened twice at the washington national cemetery and once at the lincoln memorial cemetery next door all the victims were in fact attending services. three people had their purses stolen. >> it definitely makes you cringe to know that somebody would -- would break into your vehicle and steal your belongings when you're at your most vulnerable point and mourning the death of a loved one. >> the vick testimony say they never noticed anyone coming or going. investigators are looking into whether the suspect or suspects pretended to be part of the funeral procession. >> right now, all of your online accounts may be at risk. the major security breach with landing realizing an extra person was on board. officials say the 62 year old got through security by sneaking in with a family. she now faces trespassing charges. no other travelers are saying how could this have happened? >> well first of all i'm shock shocked. because they screen us so thoroughly. you know, you're patted down for the least little beep. i can't imagine someone could escape through security and get on plane. >> and yet she did. authorities have arrested hartman six times for trying to slip on to flights at san francisco international airport in the past. to night southwest airline says it's conducting its own internal investigation into what exactly happened. >> the complete reopening of the i-495 bridge at wilmington is right around the corner. this past week, construction crews finish building a new support system for two piers on the northbound side. the bridge closed on june 2nd after an inspection showed four columns supporting that bridge were tilting much the southbound lanes reopened last week. the northbound lanes should reopen by labor day weekend. veterinarians are now asking for your help to nurse an abused kitten back to help health. we told you about hope last night. and there's -- i should say he's been through an awful lot. police in west whiteland township say he was dragged from car and then injected with heroin. vets had to give the kitten the anti overdose drug narcan to save him. hope's owner was arrested. the chester county spca is now accepting donations to help pay for the medical expenses. to donate head to lists find organ donors and when this young new jersey man isn't doing that, he's shining the light on the syndrome that he battles. >> it's been a long few years. >> i usually push myself to do whatever i can. >> given his condition patrick fulton does a lot. >> i try and push myself to have a normal life as possible. >> when we first met the 25 year old from millville new jersey in june he was waiting for new kid into. going to dialysis three times week was obviously taking a to toll. >> i'm on machine that filters my blood for four hours. usually i feel weak and tired afterwards. >> sadly that wasn't the only thing the rowan university junior was dealing he has prune belly syndrome. >> it's very rare it only happens in about one in 40,000 births. mainly males. >> the syndrome leaves you with a partial or complete absence of a abdominal muscles so your belly ends up looking very much like a prune hen the name. it also affects the bladder and the kidneys. >> it's kind of a rare case because 20% don't make it past the age of one or two. and then after that it's another 30% that don't make it past the age of five. so roughly 50% don't make it past the age of five. >> the rare disorder can also cause skeletal problem. >> i was sitting in my kitchen on the floor trying to get a pan from the bottom cabinet and when i stood up, the kneecap popped out of place. your bones start to get very brittle because during the process of dialysis not only does it take out the bad stuff it can end up taking out got stuff, too. >> despite spending three years on the transplant list, patrick has managed to take everything in stride. and he's made it his mission to educate anyone who will listen about prune belly syndrome. >> i don't like to just sit around and just mope about it. i'd like to go out don things. >> i don't like to feel that my condition is a disability. i like to just feel just like something that's happened to me and i'm not going to let it hold me back from life. >> if he's not studying computer science he's playing with his sister's dog mini or working on his facebook page which is also dedicated to helping others find organ donors. >> i just have my failing. >> while prune belly syndrome has no cure, patrick's prayers have been answered in part. july 10th he finally received a new kidney. now comes recovery. and more hope for the future. >> i'm feeling 100% better. i've been through a lot as it is i feel like this is just a stepping stone to better things. >> it is for him. we first met patrick when he was awaiting that kidney and the difference before and after is absolutely phenomenal. >> we wish him well. >> absolutely. >> you know at one point or another almost every parent loses track of a child. >> but now you can track your child on your cell phone through gps. it's called kids for gps works by connecting a smart phone app to a bracelet you would stick on your child's wrist. there is an option to create predetermined boundaries if the child leaves it the text is sent to a parent and comes with locking mechanism when tampered with an alarm will sound and mom and dad receive a text. some say this is the ultimate phoenix police officer does not mind. >> i almost when i get home from work i can't waiting to home and see the kittens. i have two cats of my own and four dogs. >> someone found the citterns in dumpster at an apartment complex near 35th avenue in camelback. caller told police you could hear the kittens whimpering. >> when he looked he looked in and saw five little babie babien bottom of a box with other garbage and glass. they remember dumped in dumpster left to die. >> reporter: officer heather kim saw the kittens close to dying. so she took them to closest animal hospital but they cannot keep the five kittens. >> it was almost at 9:00 o'clock at night and the humane society was closed. so i went to the nearest store i could find to find formula and started feeding them. >> worcester. the camp for children with physical and developmental dissables and look at that. they all had great time. like every prom the queen and king are voted in by their pierce this prom has a prom prince and princess as well and they all get a very special ride in a limo after the dance. how great is that? love that. camp, staff and and dozens of volunteers helped to make it a big success day tomorrow. let's talk about the tropics. double trouble on its way toward hawaii. iselle a category one hurricane right now will likely weaken bit but maintain hurricane status. julio right behind it. that will likely move a little farther to the north of the big island but let's focus in on iselle. you can see it moving approaching the island of hawaii. the big island that is and we're looking at a potential direct hit. this will be the first time a hurricane has hit hawaii in over 22 years. so you can see the computer models continuing to take it right toward hawaii. we'll be monitoring that over the neck several days. a lot of heavy rain, potential mudslide concerns and those waves they will definitely be increasing over the next several days. for us fair skies, lowering humidity.
