Southwest philadelphia fire station. They claim firefighters didnt respond fast enough to the fire that killed four children over the weekend and theyre outlooking for answers tonight. Over the fire station at 65th and woodland about 200 people have showed up here to protest. This all started about 7 00 oclock. So its been going on for several hours. At least two people have been arrested. You can see the scene is still very active right there now. Its after 10 00 oclock this evening. In fact, this all started because of a row house fire on saturday. Four children died. Absolutely heartbreaking to all the people their emotions running very very high. And the neighborhood is still in turmoil asking a lot of questions. A lot of the neighbors wondering why did it take so long for firefighters to show up at the house because you know when drama unfolds you know that it seems like eternity. Reporter iain, lucy, good evening. 65th and woodland is blocked off at this hour here in southwest philadelphia after a very tense night that led to hundreds of people spilling out into the streets and several arrests and an entire neighborhood asking why. As you see behind me dozens of Police Officers here on scene. They arrived here about 3 00 oclock after a meeting at the Liberian Association church here in the area. They wanted answers from firefighters in terms of the Response Time to saturday mornings early fire that killed those four precious children. These people said that the Response Time was too long. Firefighters say the Response Time was about three minutes. That escalated into hundreds of people coming out to the outside of the fire station that responded to that fire just blocks away at one point protesters were blocking the entrance to the Fire Department. You see some of that video. Mayor nutter just addressing this very issue minutes ago. I will not tolerate under any set of circumstances Incorrect Information, allegations, innuendoinnuendos or lies suggeg that members of the Philadelphia Fire Department did anything less than perform admirablely in their service in the 6500 block of gesner street. Developing to night another Building Collapse in philadelphia much the roofs of two row homes come crashing down on the 6,000 block of spruce street in cobs week neighborhood of philadelphia. Investigators think a wall between the homes gave way causing the collapse. Both roofs and second floors came crumbling down. Home inspection Officials Say no complaints or violations have been reported on either home. One of the homeowners noticed cracks in the front bedroom within the last week and a half. She wasnt as worried about her home as she was about her dogs who were inside at the time of the collapse. These dogs are my life. We learned that these were actually beer bottles that were cracked along the side of the pool and sent all that glass into the water, and now this community is really upset about it. This woman and her son expected to spend the hold fourth of july weekend cooling off in the pool after paying hundreds of dollars in a summer fee. Vandals tossed in broken glass. To find out somebody would do this, you know, its very disappointing. We have cos since coming from california and we wanted them to show them the pool and its closed because of this. So we were kind of upset. Police say the pool manager found the glass in two pools as he was opening up the complex. It could have seriously injured someone with so many children who swim here. Investigators say the vandal or group of vandals broke glass bottles on the waters edge and also through in a traffic cone and reflectors. We decided pretty much right away we had to close the facility for the safety of the patrons. Reporter crews had to drain the water, pool the glass and clean the filters.
