Reporter tater blackwell limped a charmed life. He goes everywhere i go. Literally. Reporter rescued as puppy. Australian cattle dog comes to work every day at this 25acre farm with his own are in Michael Blackwell. He loves to hunt mice. He will spend literally all day just like a fox in the snow. Reporter late last month michael and tater were visiting a friends farm in georgia when tater saw squirrel at the foot of this leaning tree. The squirrel ran up that tree and tater right behind him. Reporter about 25 feet up in the air squirrel jumps off. Tater right behind him and just happened to be a power pole with a grounding rod in the soil and he landed right on top of it. Right dead in center of his chest. Reporter tater was impaled. The half inch metal rod cut straight through him. And michael knew if he pulled tater off the rod the dog might bleed to death. Somehow he pulled the rod 4 feet long with tater still attached out of the ground and they rushed the dog to local vet. At one point he kind of went into shock. And he limped out on me and i thought i lost him at that point report roar the vet cut the rod and called georgia veterinary specialist emergency clinic telling them to stand by. Tater was on the way. The Immediate Reaction when the technician got out there was oh, my god. I had no idea it was this bad. You can feel the tip of it under his skin right here and this is the piece of rebar that was actually in there. Just this end about this much of it was actually in his chest. Reporter as tater was rush into the operating room, dr. Alan cross says his main concern the rod had pierce add major artery which would be deadly. Once he got in and i adrenaline came down i was in consolable. I thought there was still a really good chance that i was going to lose him. But tater is one lucky dog. The rebarb peered one of his lungs but barely missed his heart and the team was able to remove it with no complications. He became sort of a hero of everybody at the vet. They never seen anything quite like that. Reporter two days later tater went home. And Michael Blackwell is is grateful his best friend is still going strong. He is my child. I mean hes my buddy.
