(vanessa) we're also following a developing story overseas this morning. (wally) an earthquake rattled central italy late last night... and at least 11 people are dead. (wally the quake shook some buildings, and collapsed others... in the town of "amatrice" panicked people ran out into the streets there, and in other (wally but amatrice is the hardest hit... the mayor says his town, quote, "isn't here anymore." entire blocks have crumbled... and the aftershocks are still coming. the streets are full of rubble and debris... and crews are looking for people who may be trapped. emergency workers have been trying to dig-out a family of four, reportedly stuck under the ruins of their home... but so far, there are no signs of life. (vanessa) governor scot another roundtable discussion on the zika virus... and it comes at a very critical time... now that the bay area has its first ?non- travel-related case. state health officials say: it's in ?pinellas county... but right now, the governor says: there are no active transmission areas there. (vanessa the governor and state surgeon general say: they're re-tracing the pinellas county woman's steps... testing her relatives... and speaking with her co-workers. so far, she's the only ?confirmed case of locally-transmitted zika virus in the bay area... incidnet. governor scott says: the only places of "active transmission" by mosquitoes, are in south florida... in the miami area. ((vanessa)) that zika case has lots of people worried... how do we protect ourselves... and our families? (wally)) and that's an especially big concern... for school districts. ((wally thanks, shayla. we're learning new details about a deadly pedestrian accident in pinellas county - at an area where there's no crosswalk.. and a history of bad crashes.. it happened at roosevelt boulevard and 60th street north in clearwater. troopers say a 57-year-old man tried crossing roosevelt boulevard when he was hi by a chevy impala. he died at the scene. not been released yet... troopers say they are still trying to notify his next of kin. but this isn't the the accident happened down the street from a bar... investigators believe the pedestrian may have been under the influence. because the pedestrian was not in the crosswalk at the time... the driver is not facing any charges. (wally we have new video this morning, taken just minutes before a man allegedly carjacked a woman in lakeland. it's from outside the seven-eleven at the intersection of west pipkin road and florida avenue south. polk county deputies say: the man left the store, and walked over to the "bonefish there, and was getting into her car . she said the man had a chain wrapped around his hand and told her to get out .. deputies found the car a few miles away... crashed and burned .. if you recognize the man in the video, please contact the sheriff's office. ((walter a tampa bay animals rescue is taking on dogs from louisianna. shelters have become room.... ears animal rescue sanctuary in englewood took in 20 dogs. last week... the humane society of tampa bay took in 14 dogs. they went up for adoption saturday... and nearly all of the dogs were adopted that day. we'll let you know when these pups are ready for new homes. for now... the shelter needs volunteers, supplies, and donations.
