depression number 9 out there churning off the coast of cuba. right now, though, that storm is expected to make landfall north of the bay area as you see there putting us in a path where we will certainly see some activity. paul dellegado is here with an yun update. >> paul: this is the new tract. first, area low pressure slowing becoming better organized. we can tell that by the satellite presentation and also the colder cloud tops. when we you see all the red, a lot of people think this is radar imagery. it's not. this is infrared satellite, and when you see the purple and red, that actually indicates the coldest cloud tops and cold cloud tops indicate very tall thunderstorms that are producing a lot of wind and rain, lightning sometimes, too. they're getting awfully close to the center, so when you see that big flare-up which happens quite systems, it's a sign there's slow organiztion. this is a new advisory and the pressure is down from 1,007 to 1,003 millibars. storm is it moving west at 7. tomorrow morning when you get up, this could be tropical storm hermine, unless the storm off the carolina coast beats it. it will be tropical storm watch or hurricane watch up for her our west coast certainly by -- it has to be before noon tomorrow, maybe as early as the 5:00 advisory tomorrow morning. really change to the forecast reasoning. a little trough coming into the gulf of mexico will steer the storm northeast, and as i've said many times tonight, this is the type of tract where we're south of it. it brings with it a lot of heavy rain for us, and also we see a spell of strong winds from the west and southwest. you know what happens? you have 6 to 12 hours of winds off the water. you have storm surge at least a couple of feet above average, and there's ?areas ofheavy rain easily 4 to 8, maybe more than that. also on thursday we'll be in the unstable side, and some of those squalls could produce isolated tornadoes during the day on thursday. that's the three factors, coastal flooding, some heavy rain, isolated tornadoes. most of that later wednesday night into thursday. then it's gone. computer models, watching them and all still insist on that shar somewhat unusual for a storm to do in august. this is more of an october thing when cold fronts typically get into the gulf and kind of steer tropical systems northeast. so that's that. a lot more maps and graphics and more about td number 9 coming up at about 11:20. i will see you then. >> we sure will. of course, you heard paul, so be prepared and be ready. that's the message tonight as people are getting sandbags ready in those flood-prone definitely feel affects. how some people are out ahead of the wind and the rain. >> reporter: sandbags like this one are the hot item today in pasco county. the government center is one of the several locations offering these sandbags. the storm in the gulf raising major concerns over flooding here. we've seen that time and time again, and this one likely won't be any different. the county is preparing for a potential category 1 hurricane and wants residents to do the of course, it may not be that strong, but as always, plan for the worst and hope for the best. the county is really worried about the winds associated with this storm. they could lead to flying debris, potentially falling trees which can knock out power. the power companies are preparing for that, but residents should, too, by getting batteries and other items. >> we want people to be prepared and be aware. people need to prepare and go out and get food, water, batteries for their electronic devices to that they can keep in touch with what's going on here. sealed off and everything ready in case water comes up. >> sandbags are available from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. here at the government center in pasco county as well as two other locations in pasco. so far now evacuations are called for at this point. if that happens, it will likely be on wednesday. one more thing to note. the rivers appear to be in decent shape right now. they're below action stage, which is actually below flood stage. so good news there. of course, that could all change depending on the movement of storm, and you know fox 13 will be keeping a very close eye on it. in pasco county, josh cascio, fox 13 news. >> for a list of sandbag locations around the bay area as well as updates on the tropics, go to our website, fox13news.com. it's all right there. new at 11:00, a pinellas county charter school is defending itself tonight after parents say their children were exposed to mold although the school. plato academy is the name of it. it's dogged by accusations from parents who say administrators lackadaisical in how they responded to the serious health problem. evan axelbank is live in largo tonight where a meeting wrapped up. i think the parents had strong opinions, didn't they? >> reporter: they do, and they're on both sides of the aisle here, so to speak. for the first time tonight the administrators here admitted that there was mold in the building, however, they say that mold has been cleaned and that further tests showed that those cleanings were successful. about half the didn't buy it. first an accusation. >> there's a spot behind here that looks covered up that was squishy. >> reporter: then the response from the founder of plato schools insisting he has nothing to hide. >> i mean, you can touch the wall and feel it. >> in a full cafeteria, he and his staff acknowledged that mold had been found in a mobile broken air conditioner. but he insisted it was cleaned and the room tested five times by different companies and the department of health and found sach. >> heineding something is just not part of the equation. >> while some parents took the side of the administration -- >> i suggest we unite, support each other with love and help build each other up. >> reporter: about half argued that administrators sent mixed messages, that leaders wrongly claimed there was no never any mold. >> right now we're new schools. i say that with an incredibly heavy heart. >> administrators insisted monday that pictures parent sent around last week was before it was cleaned. now parents send new pictures that show spots on a classroom or that fox 13 also observed. >> i am one of those moms that he says is starting malicious rumors. i promise you, i am not. meeting, administrators admits they're in the middle of a thorny problem. >> if there's mold at unhealthy levels, we will fix it. the trust issue at the moment will be rectified. >> reporter: parents made a specific demand. they want the school board, the board here at plato, to hire a tester to test the mold who the parents themselves recommend. so the board has agreed toe take that step, chris. >> sounds like a victory at least in part for parents tonight on the issue. thanks. there's new details emerges from martin county tonight after prosecutors say a man under the influence of designer drugs broke into a home and attacked people inside. they say that 19-year-old nico gallow right here took a policy street drug before he crashed through the front wind doef of this stewart home early sunday morning. investigators say the victim's son fought gallo from one end of metal baseball bat. whether deputies got there, they had to restrain his hands and feet because he was violently resisting them. the sheriffing says this attack shows the unpredictably with these drugs. >> five take it and one person goes crazy and goes on a rampage. it's so dangerous, it's playing russian roulette with a six-chamber guns and five bullets. >> the woman was treateded for minor injuries a wasn't hurt. he will face burglary and assault charg out of the hospital. the sheriff ?s the similarities between this case and the one involves this young man, fsu student austin harrouff. he's the one accused in the violent and random murder of a martin county couple earlier this month. that was the one where they found him bieth the man's face. although investigators is are waiting for des results, the sheriff says both men dmron in less than 12 hours voters head to the polls. tomorrow state primary races as kro the bay area. polling locations are set up and ready for you. voters will decide on who they want to represent their party in races for the u.s. house and officers. i feel like nobody deserves the right to tell somebody they can't be served because of who they are. >> swift action taken by the store owner, and what customers of that local shop have to say about it. when a thief tried to take off with a new cell phone, employees decided to stop him. it's one of the ocean's fastest, fiercest predators. it knows no equal. until now... mako. the so they tackled him there. watch her get in a couple kicks. they held him there until deputies arrived. >> my father was a bo basics so attack us, we could defend ourselves. >> random acts of heroism pays off a little bit. you never know what those type of people may have on them. we were lucky in that case. >> and the suspect was checked out at a local hospital for bumps and bruises. there he is not looking too proud. he's charged with robbery and criminal mischief. it caused about $2,000 in damage to that store. there could be a job opening at a smoothie shop in winter haven after an employee was fired after refusing to serve alford police posted on facebook he and another officer were denied service. an employee told his co-worker, quote, i'm not serving them. you can. it's the cops. i refuse to serve them. his facebook post was shared more than 8,000 times. oh, yeah. the owner of the restaurant fired that employee sunday n night, and customers say they feel that was fitting. >> i feel like that's segregation and nobody deserves the right to tell somebody that who they are, whether it's their race or profession. it's very unprofessional. >> the owner also apologized to those officers. tonight officer leatherberry wrote on his facebook page he's overwhelmed by the support and doesn't hold a grudge and is taking down the original post because he feels the issue is resolved. that's nice he takes down the original post so it doesn't keep going on. >> very good, yes. it wouldn't be summer in folks in downtown tampa got caught in the downpour. that guy didn't have his umbrella ready. paul dellegado is here. a lot more rain is on the way for later this week thanks to this tropical depression, right? >> i think you're right. already today, you know, we had an inch or two, so this is only monday and you had a couple more tomorrow maybe and then wednesday and thursday the real stuff gets going. before you add it up every day, we had a foot of rain, that's how it plays out. today was an interesting day. clouds mov you put it into motion. this is the hilton clearwater beach cam. a couple of bands of rain go by and heavier rain moves off the coast. this is th t day we had. lots of wind in the atmosphere as you go up in height. there's another band of rain going by, and eventually things kind of break up and we have the ultimate kind of tropical sky very late in the day, and that's kind of nice, isn't it? that's on the hilton clearwater beach cam late today. of great sunset. not much coming up wednesday and thursday nights as we get more clouds and rain. it looks like the storm maybe jogged a little bit to the southwest, or the center was reforming late today. but definitely a little jog to the southwest. i don't think the overall forecast reasoning has changed at all. we're still looking at plenty of tropical moisture and already tonight, you know, we get areas of rain east of the state. you kind of see the wind flow pivot in from the over us. we may get rain as early as early to mid-morning in some of the viewing area. already rain out here. you just get increasing amounts of trocal moisture as td-9 slowly gets its act together in the gulf of mexico. again, nothing unusual for this time of day. there's td number 9, and then and top winds of35. even though the pressure is dropping, as of yet the hurric hunter scientists on plane could not find winds 39 miles per hour and above. we will keep this as tropical depression number 9, but it will become a tropical storm tomorrow and make a big right-hand turn and head in the general direction of the big bend. it should be making landfall on thursd 8:00. this is wednesday at 8:00 mid to late afternoon on thursday. at that time we'll have squalls coming in fmhe we will have high surf and some erosion. we have some coastal flooding in any one of these rotating squalls from the southwest could produce a tornado on thursday, too. so needless to say, thursday is not going to be a great day. a lot like colin, but the fact that the storm is moving southwest to northeast may pile the continental shelf off our coastline goes out 90 miles. it's flat. you blow a southwest wind over that continental shelf, you know, for 6 to 12 hours, you blow it at 40, 45, 50 miles per hour, it's really going to pile water along the coast. so that's an issue coming up on thursday. then, by friday and saturday the storm is up by bermuda, and we say good-bye. thre's some limiting factors, though, to you can see there's a lot of dry air to the west and even dry air west of tampa bay. so that in itself will tend to mit at least the threat of rapid intensification. we have to watch it because we've seen many times where it looks like the forecast is for it to be a category 1 or tropical storm. you look a couple of days later it's a 2 or 3. i'm not saying that's going to happen, but you have to kind of baby-sit the systems when they water temps are 85 to 89. that's like 93 octane at your gas station. partly cloudy tonight, and we're down to 78. tomorrow, showers and thundershowers kind of moving in from the east. and fast-moving, too. near 90. on wednesday probably more persistent showers and thundershowers as the tropical storm gets closer. 85, unsettled wednesday night into thursday. then we will be left in the soup on friday. more showers and thundershowers likely, and dave oser berg will be in tomorrow morning with more, which could be tropical storm hermine tomorrow morning. back to you. >> a lot can happen in a few hours. yep. it's
