Now the driver that police say mowed down two people in miami this morning have been arrested. Weve also confirmed the two victims are federal immigration they were about to hop in a taxi. They were handlin a taxi when the driver of a mercedes plowed into those men and took off. This happening along collins avenue right in the heart of a tourist area this morning. The two were living together in their apartment when he snapped. And she may have been dead for 24 hours before she was even found. We have new information on this crime tonight. Amanda . This building manager fondly remembers the woman as a very decent, tranquil, and hard last night, though, the 58yearold was found dead inside her home. Police discovered garcias body around 8 00 p. M. In this apartment complex near west 64th street and west 22nd court. Last night we saw a woman collapsing onto the banister outside the apartment. This building manager also says garcia worked for walmart and had just moved into the apartment with her son a few weeks ago. Hialeah Police Confirmed that she was living with her son william Gerardo Garcia who had a history of Mental Health problems in the past. Cops said he apparently had issues with his mother and killed her. Garcia told police he was present when an imaginary person stabbed his mother, lit her on fire, and burned her to death. The death is ruled a homicide. Gaia fled after the murder but after a long overnight search, he was eventually found and pine. Now, records alsohow that garcia has had some trouble we the law in the past. Right now hes headed to jail and is being charged with Second Degree murder. The same one that brought some of that Severe Weather. That cold front will not have lot of bite with it. Youll notice that one. But certainly drier as we work through the evening. Theres the cold front right there. Still off towards our west. Its going to fizzle out as it pushes through south florida. This is going to be the cold front that has a temperature ifference behind it. Timeline looking to be first half of the day on sunday. Possibly even beginning ovnight saturday night. Until then, they provide care and refuge to hundreds of dogs and cats, kitties, and puppies. How many animals are you receiving over at miamidade Animal Services a week . Yeah, we get about 29,000, 30,000 a year whic roughly works out to 250 a week. Dogs only. And then cats about the same. Reporter but the new year came with great news. They hit a 90 save rate. What does that number mean . That means we were able to come to the shelter. Really a better way of saying it is that of the animals saved and the animals not saved, we saved 90 of those. Reporter a lot of people might be asking why arent we using the number 100 . Can you explain that . 100 of the animals that come to the shelter, you cant save them all. Some may be suffering,ither hit by a car or sick in a way they would get others sick. We do try to save the animals. Reporter sadly half the animals were being youth niced four years ago. O. We havent done it alone. Weve done it with a lot of help frfr the community. All different partners. An the message that went with that. In august the clear the shelters event helped get 161 animals adopted in one day. Compare that to 48 adoptions the same day a year before. Partnering with over 100 local hosting more than 500 Community Events and countless programs offered at the shelter for the animals helped hit the goal. Now sustaining is difficult and weve got to do more in the area of spay and neuter and expanding that program and again reducing shelter intake.
