bringing a loaded hand gun to a hollywood middle school appear in court for the first time. thanks for joining us. >> one of those students behind the school security scare, just 13 years old. we're joined live from the courthouse with this case. steve? >> reporter: it was said in court today that the gun was loaded and stolele out of ft. lauderdale. and one of the students connected to this case told authorities that he brought the gun to school because hwas being bullied and he wanted to scare the kid who was bullying him. so today, those teenagers went into court and found out they are staying while investigators figure out some confusion. the two teenagers arrested for allegedly having a gun at a middle school are staying in jail until tomorrow. police say it was a loaded 9 millimeter found yesterday. >> no comments right now. of the teenagers said nothing. anything about the gun or anything of that nature? the father of the second suspect also declined comment. another student at school saw the gun yesterday and told an adult. according to the police report, juvenile three advised that juvenile two pointed the gun at him and told him "don't tell." >> i think that's already considered, as well. >> reporter: during their first court appearance today, one of the teenager's father says he doesn't know where his boy got the gun. the police report is a bit confusing as to which juvenile brought it to school, so the judge voiced her concern, then gave investigators an additional 24 hours to clarify that information. >> the safety concern of having a firearm in a middle school to me is -- [ inaudible ] >> reporter: we typically don't why we plur blurred the faces of their parents. the juveniles are onlnl identified as juvenile one and juvenile two, and that is where the confusion sets in. so both are due back in court tomorrow. >> steve, thank you. now to a story you saw first on 6. a rude awakening for a south florida neighbor ater a wanted man makes a desperate attempt to avoid being arrested. take a look at this guy who landed in the hospital after assaulting two cops. now the drama putting people on lockdown, including our own news crew. >> this is normally a typically quiet, great neighborhood. never any problems. >> reporter: police say they were after this guy, 25-year-old billy hockaday. investigators say he was stopped as he walked his dog in the area of northwest 14th street around 3:30 a.m. wednesday. he asked the officer if he could put his dog inside. the officer called foror backup and walked him to his front door once a second officer arrived. that's when police say hockaday slammed the door on offers and bolted. this is billy's stepdad. police say one officer was cut when hockaday slammed the door. police set pp a perimeter telling us to stay in our cars. officers then searched for him. >> it's tough, especially at my age. >> reporter: the manhunt ended when a canine found the 25-year-old hiding in bushes. police tell us he faces several new charges, including battery on an officer and resisting >> as for the parent, she's a hard worker and he's recovering from major surgery and they don't need something like this. >> reporter: police tell us that the suspect did have a couple cuts when the canine caught him. police say he will now b btaken to jail. a michigan professor accused of traveling to weston for sex with what he thought was a 14-year-old boy was sentenc today. the dad was an undercover fficer. he's been locked up since august when he showed up in florida to have sex with the child. the widow of a man has filed three separate lawsuits. she's seeking more than d 15,000 for physica psychological and economic damage. she's suing the theater, the developer and an employee for prohibition on weapons. he's accused of shooting chad olson, who was using a cell phone in the movie theater two years ago. reeves, a former police officer, plans to invoke florida's stand your ground only cracking down in two cities here in the entire country. that's new york city and miami. so if you're looking to buy a million dollar home, lit be harder to hide your identity and where you got the money to pay for it. miami is the land of beautiful, multimillion dollar landscaped homes. but unlike you and i, the people that buy these homes don't have to say who they are or where eir money key kangaroo has died. she had developed issues and was having trouble getting to name. patty came to miami from south carolina. she gave birth to four offspring. a man is credited with saving his mom's life after a tornado touched down. he says he knew they were in trouble when the walls started to shake. in seconds, he made a quick decision. >> it's like oh, no, this is a tornado. i laid over top of her and about the time i got over top of her, things started exploding and glass startedflying. >> good son. the winds were so strong, the struck parked in their driveway was tossed through the has been charged with simple assault, terroristic threats and endangerment. 46 inmates in bazil escaped from a prison through a 0-foot tunnel bug into the ground. the inmates here were seen escaping by taxi or on foot, leaving their jail uniforms behind to prevent them from being identified. at least seven have been recaptured, but the status of the others is unclear. most of the inmates were facebook times. it shows two waffle house employees dipping their hair in a pot on the stove. the employees then pulled their hair out of the water, drying it nearby. you can see the condiments on the counter, just feet from where they were standing. we showed customers the video.o. >> wow! that was gross, to think that would be that bold to do it in front of the customers. >> reporter: and they couldn't believe what they were seeing. >> oh, man. >> reporter: we reached out to waffle house about this video, but call wrs not returd. >> they should stake a stand on it to reassure the customers that's not something they tolerate. be some health laws that has to come against the restaurant for mething like that. >> reporter: the arkansas state health department says within a few hours of the video being posted they had an inspector there who did a full assessment and found some violations. the store wiil remain open as managers and inspectots will make the changes necessary. >> that makes you wonder is that the first time? >> reporter: recent reports show the business did pass its most recent health inspection. meteorologist adam berg, south florida's most accurate forecast. >> yeah, this isn't@ something you see very often, especially outside of your typical hurricane season. have subtropical storm alex. characteristics of a cold core system and warm core. i don't want to go into all the details, but tropical systems tend to be warm core, actual temperatures around that core much warmer than some of the systems that we deal with. so this is a hybrid system, and it's got strong winds right now, but the good news for us, this is way out across the eastern atlantic right now. let's show you the details with alex. yeah, it's got some strong winds right now, coming in at 50 miles per hour. pressure pretty low, moving to the northeast at 14 miles per hour and subtropical alex will continue to work north bound quickly. so only an issue across the shipping lanes. going due north here between now and saturday, making it up towards greenland. pretty wild to see something like this outside of hurricane season, but we have seen it before. so there you go. alert doppler. rain to our south. marathon, key west, you're keeling it right now. this is heading north bound over the next couple of hours or so. some of the models saying it's going to move a little earlier, some kind of going in the middle and thinking once we hit midnight, we'll see a few showers. right now, certainly a wet one across the middle and lower keys. the temperatures, big story, as well. 50s in northern florida. we managed to work into the 70s across miami today, but a below average today with 76 the average. another overnight low below average, as well. here's the zoomout. you can see we've got some of that green to work with. moisture will be working in overnight tonight. let's see what this particular model says as far as rain. this one is overdoing it. florida as we speak. working in here overnight tonig. pretty steady once we hit 2:00, 3:00, 4:00 in the morning and beyond. just a final look at the lows we're expecting region by region, low 60s across the keys. flirting with 50s 30-year-old man thought he was engaged in a relationship online with a woman in south africa who looked like tiffany from san diego. a man was using social media pretending to be tiffany. it's a term known as catfishing. >> i've never talked to him. >> reporter: he shopped a bus to san diego, according to investigators. looking to exact revenge against tiffany and her boyfriend, thinking they may have had something to do with the hoax. the complaint knows she told her brother he planned to kill or warm watkins and her boyfriend. cording to the complaint, he had a backpack with zip ties and duct tape. hile was arrested after his brother contacted police after they bought things to carry out the crime. >> i don't know how to not be worried about that. >> reporter: he was sentenced to five years in prison in 2013. meanwhile, she started tiffanywatkins.com. >> i think young girls can happen. i think everybody should be more aware. >> scary. >> very scary. hopefully that will help some
