Police in arlington say thats exactly what happened to a woman yesterday and now the hunt is on for suspect. Fox5s Melanie Alnwick is live in arlington with the thirty eight on this very troubling case. Mel . Reporter good morning, guys. I think what were hearing from people that live here at the atrium condominiums here on key boulevard in rosslyn is a number of disturbing things involving this case. One certainly the fact that theyve got a 24 hour concierge desk, theyve got a secure entry and even that was not enough to stop this attack from happening. Based on the pictures that arlingtonou some still frames that they took from video, Surveillance Video from inn sigh, the suspect was in around different parts of the building anywhere from little bit more 9 00 oclock in the morning until about 9 45 when this picture here that you see was taken. So he was seen in many areas around the building sunday morning. And Arlington County police say once inside he began knocking on doors claiming he was a maintenance worker. Then when the victim opened her door, police say the man attacked her and sexually assaulted her. Police say they believe perhaps that this suspect was able to kind of sneak in behind somebody who was going they call that piggybacking. Thats the information that they have at this time. We dont know how much more information theyve developed on this suspect. We can tell you the woman actually was her injuries were significant enough that she needed to be hospitalized after this attack so certainly a very serious crime here. One person that we talk to said he thinks he may have seen this lets show you some of those pictures one more time. So folks can get a good look very clear pictures here. Police tell us that he is about 20 years old in that range. And early 20s they say approximately sick feet tall with slim build. Also you see wearing the gray hooded sweatshirt dark pants and backpack black backpack with under armor logo on it. At this point, Arlington County police say this does appear to be a random crime. Certainly they were here yesterday for about 12 hours canvassing the building talking to folks handing out flyers. Fl. Happening today a hearing set for one of the teens at the center of of the Rockville Rape case. 17yearold jose mon ton know will be in court today. Last month when mon ton know and 18yearold Henry Sanchez were accused of raping a 14yearold girl at rockville high school. On friday the rape charges were dropped. Authorities say there was a lack of testified charge them with rape and that the 14yearold girl had consensual sex with the two teens. That woman said she was in a rush and as they were standing there, apparently, the other woman started making derogatory comments about another shopper who was wearing a head dress. Kind of anti Muslim Statements apparently. So thats why the other lady pulled out her camera. Her phone and started recording. She, too, muslim hears the beginning of that interaction caught on camera. So you played dumb and then you say that everybody is. I got it. Shouldnt have let in you front of me. I wish i didnt let you in the country. Excuse me . Huh . I was born here. I dont know if you oh, you were . Oh, okay. Reporter video continues on. Eventually you will see that womans face there. Eventually youll see her face. She goes on to criticize former president obama calling him a muslim. A friend of the lady who recorded the video posted it on facebook. He lives in south carolina. Put it on his Facebook Page hes parent al comedian has lot of followers and it went viral. A lot of comments. We posted it on our Facebook Page. The fox5 Facebook Page last night, and have generate add lot of comments as well. Here are just few we want to share with you. First of all pam she says she was just voicing her opinion nom violence, nothing physical. Just saying stupid stuff to another lady in the Grocery Store line. Wh annie says, harder to believe that this occurred in reston. Reston is a big melting pot of many cultures. Its been this way for years. And piper says, the fact that people like this continue their rants knowing theyre being recorded shows that theyre very comfortable with their ignorance and they really believe this type of behavior will go without consequence. Sad. And thats it, guys a lot of people obviously blasting the woman for making these apparently racist comments, and others defending her right to say it and saying the other lady why did she record it . There is talk in the community about who the lady because you can see her face at one point who that lady is, might she be a teacher in the community . Nothing confirmed. Thats what some people are saying. They recognize her as possibly a teacher in fairfax county. But no name and nothing off official. I want to show was were actually consuming in one day were consum sugar the average american. 39 teaspoons and one week were doing 3 pounds and in a month just a month were con consuming 13 pounds of sugar for the year its 155 pounds and the problem in the added sugars extra sugars. 66 pounds a year. That sugar can turn into fat, right. Absolutely. Do all kinds of bad things. Were is it . Its in our sugar drinks. This 20ounce soda, 65 grams of sugar. Thats outrageous. Thats almost you know, 16 teaspoons of sugar right h here. Sports drinks, vitamin water, this iced tea 39 grams of sugar. Thats 10 teaspoons much. Thats basically a third of this right here. Already. Just in one drink. The American Heart Association recommends only 9 teaspoons per day for men. Six for women in added sugars and its all here even our pasta sauces 12 grams of sugar 3 teaspoons much lou, at these morning bars it looks good, the guys hiking, 20, sugar in just one bar alone. Its crazy. Look at our cereals. Raise sin bran sounds good, bran is very good for you its a whole grain. Guess, what 18 grams of sugar. This has to be healthy right. It is healthy but still has 13 grams of sugar. So you have to be a good food you have to be a food detective and i want people to realize just look at the labels. Thats the key reading labels. The other key knowing the healthier options when it comes to it. I want to start actually with the drinks because these are some of the biggest predators right here when it comes to the sugar intake because we get so just we want them, we need them and then sometimes were like, ill just have the tea instead of soda or ill have the vitamin water. Seltzer water is great with a little juice if you want to much thats fine. Some unsweetened iced tea is fine. All these are sweetened. Seltzer water, unsweetened aced tea or regular weather was crit suss squeezed in it. Listen if you wanted to things so the book five week plan all spell out. You lose up to 20 pounds in just five weeks and people have dropped their 30 these are types of food. Regular food its simple its effective and its very affordable and its portion controlled so people say i love the plan because im getting a lot of food but remember, with type two diabetes you go into the Doctors Office oh youre prediabetic. You have type two. They dont tell you what to do. Lower your carbs. What does had mean i wanted to write a book that says to people this is what you do every day with options so its simple. Obviously were seeing fish here but also seeing meats that are here as well. What are some go to foods that we can eat that are relatively low in sugar . If youre looking,. Fill us up. If youre looking go with yogurt but greek yogurt and but blueberries in it go were it fruit on the bomb bottom. They already added sugar. Thats right f youre doing pastas go with whole wheat pasta instead of white pasta. Once you put the sauce on it you cannot taste the difference. So these are the kind of swaps. Instead of candy bars, do some nutella on whole grain bread. The book has over 50 swaps that you can make right away to help you lower your blood sugars and lose weight. By the way this isn diabetics a lost us are addicted to sugar if you look at the brain mri scan of someone who drinks sugar and has cocaine they light up the same area its highly addictive. And the key is when were talking about you said obviously its not just for diabetics but it can make you healthier in general. Absolute. As far as the people who just want to drop weight a good way to kick start the diet. Absolute. I had someone who dropped 10 pounds in one week. On the outside i had everything. But on the inside i pretty much had nothing. I stumbled across the movie the motorcycle diaries. Oh yeah. Which is romanticized of tray trapping traveling around south america and kindness and i realized there was another way to live even want to do go out and connect with people and really learn about the world by meeting it. What was your expectation . Did you think you were going to find kindness or you didnt know . To be honest with you in the beginning i thought i thought maybe i wouldnt find kindsness. I was a news addiction. All i did was watch the news and sometimes the news negative. Really . Yeah. [ laughter ] i thought the world wouldnt be kind. But as i went out into it, i met all these amazing people that came from their hearts and it really changed so much. I want people to really understand the level that you did this. Because you were driving on this motorcycle that had the propensity to break down. Yes. Probably by design, right . So you didnt have any money with you. And yet you have money. So yes. Nobody you came in contact with knew that. And so, what, every day you asked can i stay with you . Can i help me find food . Can you help me fix my bike. Basically i took the bike from los angeles i drove it all the way around the world back to los angeles with no money. I would go up to people and tell them my journey. I was traveling around the world on kindsness. And could you help moo . And most people said no. Which is fine some people said yes. If you find that one person you can connect with, thats when real magic happens. Give us an example. For example, i was in pittsburgh, um, and i went up to a chap in the park and i said, can i stay in your house he goes im really sorry, im homeless. So in that moment, i feel a lot of shame because in so many ways i have everything at home and nothing on this journey but then he does something profound. He says if you want, you can come and stay with me tonight. Ill feed you, ill protect you, and ill give you some clothes. Thats exactly what he did. And the next morning i was able to put him up in an apartment and send him back to school. And thats the second part of the story. So when people showed you kindness, you then surprised them. Yes. With amazing acts of kindness. Yes. Can you give me a few more examples of that. For example, i went to india. And i met this rickshaw driver who put me up in his house. Let me stay with his family. He used to rent to rickshaw. A lot of money would go to renning the rickshaw. And the next morning after having spent the night with him and his family i purchased a rickshaw for him. So he no longer that is a to rent a rickshaw its funny because i went to see him about a year his kids go to Better School all these beautiful things simply from connecting with someone. Where were you the most surprised . I was supposed surprised i went to country call bhutan northeast of india and they have a thing called Gross National happiness they determine the success of the country by the happiness of the people. Wow. Which i dont knowly algorithm the people i met in bhutan were truly exceptional they a joy in their hearts. You know when you meet someone you feel is so present. They were definitely present. What was the big gift disappointment in your journey . The biggest disappointment there were far fewer people than i would have imagined who were kind. That doesnt mean there werent kind people but most people said no. Which is understandable because on one level who am i . They dont know who i am. They have no reason to be kind to me but id say if i stopped ten people nine would say no. But that one person that said yes that beautiful human connection. When did you know you were done . Can they really get the healing process gun or do they need to hire a coach like you to help them further along in the process . The first and that i want to do is create the conversation because theres so many common problems that we all experience but we dont have the conversation about it. Nobody wants to anyone else to know that this is going on. My husband is cheating. My child is on drugs. Im falling apart sign so some of the things weve exposed are just to begin the conversation. And then once you begin the conversation, what i do on the show and then following up the show on youtube deeper dive is tell people, this how you address this. What i do on fix my life i identify the problem. Explore some of the possible causes of the problem, and then offer solution to the problem. So fix doesnt begin on the show. The fix begins when you go and dot work youre now in season four. Is there any case youve encountered that was so oh, my goodness, how do we get through this . Have you gone to that yet. I think the two that were most challenging for me there was a family in maryland, um, and it was challenging because it was so many children involved. My guests are willing to come and bear their soul. You know, one unwilling guest, which was dmx. Theres nothing i can do with that. Grief is a Natural Organic process the only thing i would offer her to make a distinction between mourning and grieving. When youre mourning youre stuck in the sense of lot loss of things you may never have again because youve lost this person. And when youre grieving, its just really readjusting to the new normal. And giving yourself permission to feel the loss but knowing that you will move forward even when it doesnt look like you will. But grieving theres no coaching, counseling that i can offer for grieving. If you find that its really affecting your life in dull or damaging ways, then i would say you need to talk to a counselor or therapist. We hope her words helped. Take heed of that. Lets get to the neck question. My teenaged daughter is having a hard time in high school w she is quote too nice all the time. They think shes being fake. How do i help her through this while staying true to herself . Teach her to be true to herself. You know, because heres the lesson here. What other people think of you is none of your business. And she can learn that now at 17 because some of us dont know it at 55. All right. So teach your daughter to be that and maybe her lesson is, learning how to stand in her i was then then tick identity even when shes being criticized or challenged or whatever. I know at 17 17, though. Youre in that space. What do we want her to do . Change to become what these 17yearolds want her to do they may want her on the pole with feathers in her mouth. Make an agreement with her. Make an agreement with this young girl. Youre going to go, if youre going to see him, whatever you going to do, and then ask her to commit to the agreement. But let her not go because the boy will be there. Hope the foundation you laid is a strong one. It sounds like mom is already on a good path by asking the question.
