To the schools, Montgomery County schools are on a two hour delay. Fairfax county schools are on a two High Pressure our delay a nd are on a twohour delay. Charles county schools will be closed. Also is, the federal government is taking action due to the snow that has fallen overnight. It is open today. Did we just say that . Uhhuh. I thought so. Enough. Keep in mind that the workers have unscheduled leave and telework. They know the drill. We havent had a chance to do this so far this year. But of a said it so many times this morning, i feel like im repeating this. I apologize if i just said it. This is still coming down. Rates arent terribly heavy. It is covering the ground. Anywhere between about a half inch and an inch for most us with the exception. Our friends in Southern Maryland. That is where theyve gotten the heaviest amounts. We had a little band set up during the overnight hours and we are getting reports of about 2 to 3 inches in Southern Maryland. That is where the heaviest snow has been. Every flake that has had a chance to fall from the sky has had a chance to stick. So well be in for a bit of a challenging commute here. Most of today will be sunny and bright. It will remain cold today. Well never get out of the 20s. What we see is what we get here for the next couple of days. Temperature here at reagan national, 20 degrees. This will an factor in the forecast. 19 at dulles. Let me show you the advisory again. We are under a wasnter weather advisory until 9 00 a. M. All the counties in purple including washington and baltimore. We are under a Winter Weather advisory until 9 00 a. M. We are looking at snow totals a little more than an inch. I think by 7 00, 8 00 this morning, we should be reduced to mostly flurries. High temperatures, upper 20s. That will be about it. Cold conditions with afternoon sunshine developing. And once again, it will snow for a few more hours here. It is a little slick out there in some spots. Oh, yeah. Most of it when i was driving to work, the roads were covered. St. Marys county schools are closed. Again, myfoxdc. Com at the bottom of your screen, well have all the updated information throughout the morning. Time now to check in with julie wright so she can talk about the roads and how this is affecting the commute. Weve had a number of accident out here on the highways and disinl had some slick spots this morning. The roads were snow covered, were they not, tucker . This happens to be the commute coming in off 66 and the tr bridge. I have a number of cars coming inbound. And definitely had some slick spots this morning. Just about three blocks away from here, this is better than what we showed you a few minutes ago. We couldnt see the crossing walk here a few moments ago. Crews are working to get some of the snow out of the roadway for you. But you will notice this right lane still empeeded with snow. Once you make it on to the roadways where you would normally have three lanes or two, it may be narrowed down to one as the crews continue to most snow out of your way. We are taking a peek at southbound 270. This looks pretty good. It has been cleared shoulder to shoulder coming southbound out of clarksburg towards the lane divide. We are receiving word now of a crash southbound 270 near the exit for route 08 in urbana. The bridges, ramps and overpasses still very slick. We not ised that ramp at 370 traveling to and from the rio has not been treated yet. 66, again, cleared shoulder to shoulder as the snow continues for fall. No problems to report here. Northbound 95 has been troubled with three separate incidents as you work your way northbound out of dale city. We had an accident after 234 tying up the right leap that. Should be on the shoulder. Another crash before you reach dumfries that was tying im lane and our third incident occurred after of the exit for dale city. Northbound i95 already peppered with delays as you travel between dale see and woodbridge. 395 incidentfree continuing out to the 14th street bridge. Fill up with a tank of gas if you havent already just to be on the safe side and wiper fluid a necessity for this mornings drive. Thats a check of your fox 5 ontime traffic. Traffic. This Winter Weather could cause a slow and messy commute for some so you may want to give yourself some extra time on the roadways this morning. Melanie alnwick is live in northwest tease. The conditions, they dont really seem to be improving out there just by the look it was anyway. Actually, i think its gotten a little bit lighter. The wind isnt blowing as much. The flake seem like they are getting bigger as well. The roads seem to be steadily improving. But this is an example of what julie was talking about where you can see the side street here on livingston. Really only one lane is clear. That is down to wet, black pavement in about the hour since weve been here. It was completely snow covered when we got here. The salt truck came and took two passes. I think where peopleville have most the difficulty is if they will be Walking Around. They dont come and treat the sidewalks here. Most are still snow covered. Be very, very careful. A lot of the areas of the city have these granite curbs. This granite right here with this really fine snow is very, very slippery. Really, pedestrians who are out here Walking Around are going to really need to watch their footing a little bit. D. C. Had plenty of crews out here. They said they had about 190 off you are their snow team apparatus out. Not soo a lot of need no plowing, mostly just salting. Maryland and virginia say they did a lot of pretreating as well on the bridges and overpasses. The message we want people to really keep with them is you got to watch utah for where you might have to single track on some of the side roads. It looks like the oner in the sweep stalks right is Southern Maryland where we are getting reports of twonews inches down into parts of Charles County and st. Marys county. Here are your cold temperatures. This is a factor because everything kind of freezes, melts with the chemicals, gets a chance to refreeze. The temperatures remaining well below freezing. 20 in washington. 21 in leonardtown. 17 this morning in baltimore. 16 in culpeper. 16 up there in hagerstown so again, very cold temperatures, upper 20s for daytime highs. We remain below freezing for yet another day. A weakling clipper system. Very dry air. The snow if you go out there and try pack it good luck trying to pack it into a snowball because it is so light and fluffy. Well see some sunshine eventually along with very breezy conditions behind our little area of low pressure which will be sliding off the cost here later today. Looking downstream a little bit, tomorrow, we have yet another clipper system and that will team up with southern moisture and bring us another round of light snow tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening. Tomorrow evenings commute could be a bit of a challenge as well as we could pick up another inch or two tomorrow afternoon. I know it is dark but again, you will notice that, in some of the places, the plows have come through but the road may be a little more narrow than with you are used to. Allow extra time out here on the roads. Lets continue with the cameras. Well show you what you are waking up to. This happens to be 66 inbound coming from fair oaks to 123. Right now, we are incidentfree but as you can see from this camera angle, the snow continues to fall. Make sure you have plenty of wiper fluid. Northbound i9 5, we had three separate incidents between quantico and dale city. One is still there tying up the right lane before you commit northbound. We had reports of an accident on westbound 66 at 7. Still a lot of the roadway covered with snow. This is the commute coming inbound off 66 here at constitution avenue at 23rd street. Now able to see pavement, able to seat crossing walk but sidewalks have not been treated. Be careful making your way out to the metro stop. This is improved, constitution avenue at 20th street just three blocks away. Now, we can actually see lane markings. Sidewalks will be tricky for you guys making your way out to the metro so allow extra time for that as well. Get ready for more speed cameras in our area not that you should be getting caught by these today. City officials in hyattsville are looking into having them installed. I mean i did have one when i was doing a play. I got september every single day, i was getting sent these big packages of all this strange stuff, stuff that didnt make sense. It was kind of odd. But i dont have any ive not been around too long so i dont have those kind of experiences. The tattoos of your characters and there has been some of that stuff. I cant really Pay Attention to that stuff. If you could replace those characters with nip you played in your career, which of those would it be.
