No one coming from 207 and river road can continue eastbound over to connecticut avenue at this time because of this closure. They do have a tow truck on the scene. En no one is able to get by right now. The delay off the inner loop of the beltway stacking up from before old georgetown road headed around that curve towards 355. All of the inner loop lanes remain closed. If you are merging on to the inner loop from 270 coming southbound on 207 270 trying to get on, you do so well past this accident scene. This will affect our friend coming out of virginia, across the American Legion bridge and continuing around towards 355. This is your inbound commute as of right now and no one is able to get through. Out are loop leaving New Hampshire over towards 270, all of your lanes are open. Eastbound 66, your lanes are clear. Six High Pressure year veteran officer kevin bowdens patrol car collided with an suv and a utility pole nearly splitting the car in half. Sherry ly has the latest. Reporter officer kevin bowden is the second Prince Georges County Police Officer killed in less than two months. Police from around the state rushed to the hospital yesterday to comfort one another. His death just too soon after the last one. The 2yearold Police Officer died from his injuries suffered in the cras he had gotten off work just two hours earlier and was off duty when the crash happened. Police say that his cruiser collided with an suv, then slammed into a utility pole, the crash so violent, it nearly sliced his vehicle in half. Witnesses say the search may have changed lanes to avoid a tour bus causing the collision. Fellow officers are now mourning the loss in their words of another good officer. This is a sad day in Prince Georges County in the Police Department losing another officer. It is not an easy day. We want to express our sympathies to the family, to the Police Department and we just hope you gift us time to get through the investigation and also through the healing process. Reporter the driver of that suv was also hurt but is expected to survive. Bowden had been with the Police Department for six years and leaves behind two children. She was suspended from her job for signing a petition that will allow Maryland Voters to decide whether to affirm the legislatures decision to legalize gay marriage. Mccaskill is now, to her surprise, the star of a tv ad by a Group Opposed to gay marriage. Here is part of the commercial. Dr. Angela mccaskill is an official at Gallaudet University. She signed the petition putting question six on the ballot, then she was suspended from her job. She is not alone. When marriage has been redefined. As question six does, people who believe in traditional marriage have been punished. Reporter the Group Running the ad believes the mccaskill case illustrates the intolerance for their views. Millions of people have believed that marriage is between one man and one woman. We are threatened in terms of what we think, freedom of speech. Reporter it should be noted the main Group Supporting gay marriage in maryland has also criticized Gallaudet University for suspending dr. Mccaskill. Marylanders for Marriage Equality believes the new ad is deceptive. The ballot language says very clearly when marylanders go to the poll, it will read religious freedom is protected. No clergy has to marry anybody they dont want. To this is about civil marriage licenses for gay and lesbian couples to go to the courthouse to get a marriage license. Mccaskills attorney said she did not approve or cooperate in the making of the commercial. It was made with footage that gallaudet had posted on the internet. The university is asking that its video be taken out of the political ads. One final point, dr. Mccaskills attorney told us he has been negotiating now with gallaudet in an effort to get his client restored to her job and he said they are getting, quote, closer to a resolution.
