cooler to the north and west and that cooler air will start to work its way back in later tonight. here is your forecast, lots of clouds around. a few scattered showers. highs, we'll go 72 in to cast a ballot in the upcoming november 6 election. today is deadline for people in virginia to register to vote. rotor registration applications must be postmarked no later than 5:00 p.m. in maryland. the district residents have until friday the 19th to register to vote. >> no campaign events yesterday for either president obama or mitt romney as they get ready for tomorrow night's big debate. the president took time off to visit a local campaign office. mitt romney went to church and has a couple of campaign events today. he is attending rallies in wisconsin and in ohio. the pretrial hearings for the five men charged with planning or assisting the 9-11 attacks begins today in guantanamo bay, cuba. relatives the victims who registered in advance can actually watch on closed circuit television at military forties in new jersey, massachusetts, maryland and new york city. the sites for the hearing are closed to the public. o the pub the search continues for two men from our area missing at a national park in montana. rescues are searching for 32- year-old neil peckins of virginia and jason heiser of maryland in glacier national park. no one knows how well prepared they were for the weather or the terrain. firefighters battled a fire overnight that destroyed several units of a self-storage facility. this happened at the store-all in the 7900 block of sudley road. it is believed more than six units burned and officials continue to investigate how the fire started. no one was hurt during this. today, the trial begins for two police officers accused of assaulting a university of maryland student back in 2010. james harrison and reginald baker are accused of salting john mckenna. video taken from the dorm room shows the officers hitting mcden wantingen education is on her way to a british medical center for treatment. she was seriously wounded when an assassination team shot her in the head while she was walking to school last tuesday. she has long called for girls to get an education despite the taliban warning her to stop. this morning, doctors say she is improving. a well-known survivor of political fights has lost his battle with cancer. former senator arlen specter died early sunday. he was 82 years old. specter had battled brain cancer and nonhodgkin's limb foam a he spent 30 years as a u.s. senator from pennsylvania as both sterling out in virginia. that will be pushing off to the east and north. i think much of your morning commute will be dry. eventually, we've got a better and better chance of some scattered showers developing along this cold front. there, you can see it. you can seat ribbon of rain is not particularly wide. so i'm not sure we're going to see a left rain today. there is a goodness that that most of us will get a little something here by late morning, early afternoon. could be a little thunderstorm too, particularly south and east of the city a little later this afternoon. let's take be cold tomorrow. 72 today. that is a few degrees above normal peoplewise, mostly cloudy skies. a scattered shower, perhaps a thunderstorm if you are south of the city with winds here. 53 overnight. were starting to dance. you were like this. >> i just realized what is going on back there. >> i think a lot of people are wondering what is going on back there. >> all right. on the roads, southbound 27 0rbg traffic is starting to slow south of 109 out of hyattstown headed out towards the scales. we are just picking up the usual suspects headed southbound. if you are continuing the trip into rockville, you will find lanes are open. an incident here eastbound on 66 as you make your way past business 234. it has been pulled over to the shoulder. lanes are open once again. 234 out of lamont drive still blocked off due to a structure fire which occurred overnight. 395 northbound at duke street, lanes are open, the pace good to go leaving the beltway out to the 14th street bridge. that's a check of your fox 5 on-timetraffic. -timetraffic. monitoring metro this morning, a new sexual harassment web site created by metro is seeing a lot of success. >> it allows riders to report offenders to police officers who are targeting passengers on metro. fox 5's john henrehan has the details this morning. >> reporter: at last week's wmata board immediating, michael taborn said the agency's web site inviting riders to complain about unwanted sexual conduct is getting results. according to taborn, since going into operation earlier this year, the web site has garnered about a quarter of the complaint regarding sleazy behavior on metro and police have concluded that more than half the time the inappropriate behavior has risen to the level of criminal conduct. now, in every single metro car, there is a call button through which passengers can talk to the train operator. chief taborn says he understands that some passengers would rather use the web site later rather than make a complaint while an incident is still in progress. >> notification is notification. we can follow up. i don't want to jeopardize an innocent bystander. >> he had exposed himself on the train to the individual. >> reporter: and did she report it afterward or who filed the report on that occasion? >> she did. it was the first incident. and she reported to the metro transit police department. she went to the station manager and reported it to him. >> reporter: it happened again the next morning. that incident was reported industry at anti-harrassment web site and transit police started focusing on a suspect description. then, passenger as board a train headed into national airport station reported yet another incident of exposure. officer karen valencia was on duty at that station. >> i was able to stop the train and i was able to stop a suspect that matched the description given to me by dispatch. >> reporter: 48-year-old robert lee scott, jr. of capitol heights, maryland was subsequently convicted and is serving a four-month sentence in the county jail. he is also facing charges in connection with one were the other incidents which happened in d.c. authorities say the web site helped close the case. the detective and the officer who made the arrest got a round of applause from metro board members. john henrehan, fox 5 news. we're going to get a firsthand look today at plans for a section of the anacostia river walk trail. d.c. leaders will unveil the design of the kenilworth aquatic gardens section of the trail and that portion will connect nearly 06 miles of bike and pedestrian trails between d.c. and maryland. congresswoman eleanor holmes norton says the river walk trail is mostly paid for with federal transportation funding. everyone is still talking about this historic sky dive. austrian extreme athlete felix baumgartner was carried up in a giant helium balloon and jumped 24 miles above the earth. he landed safely in new mexico. it took about two and a half hour. no big deal. >> his descent lasted just over nine minutes. about half of it was in free fall at a top speed of 834 miles per hour. >> that's all? >> baumgartner broke several records, not bones, that included highest free fall, fastest free fall and highest manned balloon flight. the jump was supposed to be from 120,000 feet but the balloon went higher than expected. it actually hit 128,000 feet. >> you are traveling 800- something miles per hour to get back to earth. >> and he's fine. pretty impress i have. >> the final journey for the space shuttle endeavour. imagine navigation that -- navigating that massive spacecraft through the city streets of last. >> it look longer than expected. inanot surprise giant food tucker says it is just typical l.a. traffic. no big deal. space shuttle in the road. no big deal. the space shuttle endeavour is finally at its home at the california science museum but the city of los angeles had to remove some industries and telephone poles for rafferty shows us, it is now at its permanent home. >> reporter: mission accomplished. losangeles city leaders finally welcoming the shuttle endeavour to the california science center early sunday afternoon after a 12-mile journey. >> nothing like this has ever been attempted before. and nothing like this will ever be attempted again. this is a once in a lifetime event. >> reporter: thousands after dorring onlookers gathering along its route through the city. people waiting for hours for the chance to see the shuttle up close and personal. >> when you get to see this thing right next to you and it is so huge and it has been through a war or a disaster or something, it is really, really neat. >> i have chills. we're so excited. it is like once in a lifetime. >> reporter: this mission wasn't without hitsic cups. the final expedition turning into a three-day affair. -- this mission wasn't without hiccups. >> after 25 missions in space, and close to 300 days in orbit, endeavour now backs a part of history. those witnessing the event say it is an experience they won't soon forget. >> today, everyone in the city of los angeles is an astronaut and every young man and woman out there is one step closer to the stars. >> reporter: and all the festivities not exactly cheap. the trek costing an estimate $10 million. that will be paid by the science center and private donations.
