bridge. traveling inbound new york avenue, no problems to report coming in from northeast to northwest. nothing but traffic light delays as you continue out towards the exit for the third street tunnel. overnight roadwork on the northbound side of 270. they were busy installing an overhead sign as you work your way north of 28 but before you reach 370. all of that activity cleared. wrapping it up on 66, the view coming out of manassas, all lanes open, no problems reported. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. prince george's county police trying to determine what started a house fire in bowie. the flames started about 11:30 last night at a home on normal school road near the campus of bowie state university. the house was gutted. firefighters were able to rescue the family of six trapped inside. nobody was hurt. another family is homeless after a fire tore through their home in potomac. more than 100 firefighters responded to the scene last night at the home. the fire department had to bring in water trucks because there are no hydrants in that area. one person and a family dog were inside the home and they both did got out safely. the search continues for a hit and run driver as prince george's county police say the car plowed into two people last night at walker mill and county roads in district heights. a 21-year-old man and a 28-year- old woman were crossing a poorly lit road when they were struck. the woman was killed. the man is in critical condition. police are looking for a 1990 honda accord. they are interviewing witnesses for any helpful information. in the districting, a man run down by somebody on a bicycle has died. 78-year-old and his wife were walking the day after thanksgiving. the bicycle out a young man on a bmx type bike suddenly rushed by and knocked them both to the ground. the man hit his head on the curb and he died yesterday. police are still looking for the cyclist. the fbi busting up an alleged terror plot. the suspect here in the area. authorities say he tried to blow up a military recruiting center. sarah simmons joins us with the latest. >> reporter: the suspect is antonio martinez and he went by the named muhammed hussein and he wanted to wage jihad here against military personnel. his target was the armed forces recruitment center on route 40. he first wanted to use a rifle to kill the military personnel working there. he was toss molotov cocktails into the building and shoot people as he they ran out. the affidavit goes on to say that he also mentioned using a truck filled with gasoline before settling on the idea of a car bomb. an undercover fbi agent was able to vince martinez they were working together and provided the fake bomb. his arrest, all made possible by a confidential source. >> the allegation in the affidavit is that the defendant had made postings on facebook articulating his desire to harm people and that was the impetus for the citizen to initially make contact with him and determine how serious he was and make referral to the f.b.i. >> there is no question that the fbi relies on individuals from the private sector to report information related to wrongdoing to us. >> reporter: martinez is charged with attempting to kill employees of the u.s. government and attempting to use weapons of mass destruction against a u.s. government building f he is convicted, he would face the possibility of life in prison. the fbi getting that tip on hussein after someone saw some of his postings on his facebook page that raised suspicion and then they came forward. >> on for a missing girl in virginia. police in roanoke county have release a new photo of a missing 12-year-old with her suspected kidnapper. police say this is brittany may smith and jeffrey scott easily at a wal-mart friday night. the girl's mother was found dead in her home on monday. she is five feet tall, weighs about 100 pounds. police believe she and easily or in a silver dodge neon with a virginia license plate. the teaches union is pressing the general assembly for a 3% raise to public educators. that translates to about $110 million. the virginia education association says the teachers haven't had a raise in three years and many districts have cut jobs and salaries and raised health insurance premiums. the vea believes it has made it difficult to attract teachers to the state. some democrats are very angry with the president for negotiating with republicans. harry reid is pushing for a vote this week and the democrats are saying it will probably pass. economic advisor larry summers says for the compromise is not passed, we could be headed for a double dip recession. there are new developments in the don't ask don't tell debate up next. we'll tell you why a start this morning. once again, temperature -- temperatures into the teens and 20s. 19degrees at dulles airport. 18 in harrisonburg. in d.c. now, it is 27 degrees. and baltimore is at 21 degrees at this hour. look at the satellite-radar. we'll show you we have mostly clear skies. we are losing a frame on the radar image. luckily, there is nothing to show you if our area from the radar. we do continue to see the lake effect snows in portions of ohio, pennsylvania and upstate new york but we remain dry. i should mention that it is cloudy but dry in western maryland too. here is your big weekend storm. ments a complicated system. as tucker was saying not long ago, we have to do a little fine tine tuning with this system. here what is we expect. by saturday night, late saturday night, overnight saturday into sunday, we'll start to see some rain showers moving in here as this area of low pressure moves ever closer to us and the frontal boundary comes by as well. up to the north and west of the front, it will be snow so up in pennsylvania, new york, back through ohio, parts of west virginia. likely western maryland again, you will be getting snow. we'll have to wait to see how this moves through but it could be cold enough that this could finish up as a little bit of snow ache frozen mix in parts of our viewing area, particularly north and west of washington early on monday, the possibility of that. what we do know that is bitter cold air will be making its way in here so our temperatures drop off after moderating somewhat into the weekend. they drop off sharply and then into next week. forecast for today looks like this. mostly sunny. you know the routine. less breezy. that will be good. 36degrees for your high and the winds do diminish. five-day forecast as you will see, as i mentioned in my correction, overnight tonight, temperatures again bottom out into the mid-20s, perhaps not as many teens out there. we'll have to wait and see. tomorrow, partly sunny, 41 degrees. saturday, 46 so your temperature is better. clouds do build in and by overnight saturday into sunday, we start to get some wet weather in here north and west of the city. well north and west of the city we think right now. it could be some snow. for most of us it will be a rain event on sunday, a wet day. on sunday, very cold temperatures drop back down to the low 30s for your construction all week long on the outer loop of the beltway as you travel between van dorn street and telegraph road. they will set up after 9:00 until about 3:00 this afternoon with only one lane around the mall will be a little bit tricky today. there is parking restrictions and street closures for the national christmas tree lighting ceremony. the ceremony actually begins at 5:00 this afternoon on the ellipse and you can see it right here on fox 5. d.c. mayor-elect vince gray has not taken office yet but he is making big changes. he is outing the transportation chief. >> reporter: the man who helped get plows pushing and bikes rolling says he is not stunned to be out of a job. >> i've hay bit of an inkling. >> reporter: gabe klein says he and mayor-elect vince gray had not had a conversation in months. >> when a new mayor comes in, he has every right to choose who he wants for those positions without really giving a reason. people have to accept that. i certainly do. >> reporter: at a news conference, gray answered questions about a possible change of direction in transportation. >> i think mayor fenty supported some of the same things we did. i certainly support street cars. i think he did. he supported bicycles. i support bicycles. >> reporter: but at one point, the budget battle over street cars put then council chair gray and klein on opposing teams. >> the streetcar when it comes online in 2012, i will be first person riding on that streetcar. some people say it is costing my job, the streetcar. if it gets built, i'm fine with that. >> reporter: he still has high hopes for the city. >> as a 15-year resident, i would hope -- i just got married. i would hope i could have a child and raise them and put them in school and when they turn 16, they don't have to have a car. there are so many other options. >> will he miss running the city's snow patrol. >> i will miss effect el but the snowstorms. >> reporter: klein as a he hopes to continue in some form of public service. he predict there is another opportunity for him right around the corner. still ahead, like a scene from an alfred hitchcock movie in one area neighborhood, flocks of making their presence known in some very unpleasant ways. john henrehan explains that they showed up at sunset and they leave behind their mark. >> i am about 30 feet off montrose road, very close to route 355. as you can see from the droppings on this car, when it comes to crows, we're at ground zero. according to one encyclopedia, ravens are solitary but crows prefer to long out in flocks. crows are useful, eating mice and other small animals. they also consume acorns and are known to scavenge food abandoned by humans. sometimes, crows assemble in large numbers. >> in the evening when the sun sets, they come in and just we've upon wave of birds. >> reporter: for years and years, the crows have favored a stand of trees just off montrose road just south of of the city of rockville. >> that is exactly how my descr he said it felt like a hitchcock movie. when you would have a guest leave or coming to our house. >> reporter: the crows come in such large numbers that the employees of the getty gas station on montrose road try to get their personal cars away each evening as quickly as possible because the large birds are leaving large deposits. >> we try to get out at sunset or before. otherwise, there is one covered parking space in front. the kiosk and it is a mad dash to see who can get there first. they've tried all sorts of things, music, the air cannon, things like that. and that didn't faze them. they don't flinch. >> reporter: it is actually leal to hunt crows in maryland from mid august to mid-march but it is not legal to discharge a weapon anywhere close to urban in maryland. the fbi stopping a deadly bomb plot targeting a military recruiting center outside of baltimore. the suspect, a local man, and in federal court after fbi agents foiled his plan. >> sarah here in the u.s. against military personnel. his target, the armed forces recruitment center on route 40 in catonsville. he first wantedded to use a rifle to kill the military personnel working there,
