that forecast. here we go again. >> yeah, another nice day. more of the same. not much to tell you about this morning. we'll start with the temperatures across the region. as expected, temperatures are primarily in the 40s. 48degrees at reagan national airport. relative humidity, 77%. those breezes are out of the north at about 10 miles per hour. barometric pressure has been on the rise. satellite-radar composite for the morning, not a whole lot to show you. we continue to see activity well up to the north and east across new england. plenty of clouds there but nothing much happening here. we'll see a few clouds pushing in here and there from the east. for the most part, we will again see mostly sunny skies and quiet conditions today. so the forecast looks like this. mostly sunny arks mild afternoon. high about 62 degrees. that is a couple of degrees above normal. -- mostly sunny, a mild afternoon. let's check in with julie wright with a look at traffic. interstate i-95 being closed off down near carmel church. the crash involved a tractor- trailer and the tractor-trailer caught fire. the southbound lanes of i-95 remain closed right now. this is going to impact your drive so bail out early. pick up ladysmith and use route one as the workaround. top side of the beltway looks good traveling past colesville road. overnight roadwork on the southbound stretch of i-95 has cleared as you work your way from newington. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >> thank you. president obama just touched down in south korea for the g-20 summit. >> a lot of countries are on angry about the federal reserve's move to b uy $600 billion. the president and first lady left indonesia last night. under nearby i can't is home to the world's largest population of muslim and in a peach to spiewnts, the president said the united states is trying to repair frayed relationships with muslims around the world. >> we know that relations between the united states and muslim communities have frayed over many years. as president, i have made it a priority to begin to repair these relations. as part of that effort, i went to cairo last june and i called for a new beginning between the united states and muslims around the world. >> there was a handshake scandal from earlier in the day which is making headlines in indonesia. the information minister who is a conservative muslim tweeted he was forced to shake hands with the first lady. he says he avoids contact with women who are not members of his family. a mystery over the skies in southern california. there it is. a news helicopter spotted this on monday afternoon. it look like a vapor trail but no one seems to be able to determine what it is. the pentagon is trying to determine if a missile was launched or if this was something else. sarah simmons has a closer look. >> reporter: pentagon officials say they have no explanation. a spokesperson says they've talked with everybody they can in the defense department and they say there is simply no explanation for this contrail. but some experts are saying they believe that it is actually an optical illusion here that was created by an airplane. take a look at the video. this was shot by a cbs news helicopter photographer in los angeles. the camera pointed west over the pacific ocean. this was around 5:00 monday afternoon. while the vapor cloud resembles who would be created by a rocket in flight, military officials say they did not know of any rocket launches in the area. experts say it could not have been a rocket because it and to altered its course. one expert said norad is calling to an unexplained contrail. >> i can't conceive of an example of where it could be just done by sheer accident. there is never just a one- machine push the button operation. there are las at least a couple of people involved as a failsafe. >> reporter: radar images reviewed by the faa did not find any unexplained objects and no one had a license to launch a commercial rock oat monday. the faa says there were no unusual sightings and norad says there were no scheduled launches and this was not a foreign military missile. they have tried to reach out and reassure the public saying that the u.s. homeland was never in any danger at any point. so at this point, this still remain as a mystery even this morning. back to you. >> thank you. here at home, the loudoun county man accused in a metro bomb plot has plead the not guilty in federal court. his trial is set to begin in april of next year and faces up to 50 years in prison if convicted. we have an update on the shooting death of a teenager yesterday morning in the district. the family of 17-year-old joseph sharp, jr. says he was joking around with a friend and the gunman opened fire because he was offended. both sharp and his friend were found shot in northeast. his friend was shot in the leg and survived. both were students at spingarn high school. finally a decision in the race for the virginia 11th congressional district. republican keith fimian conceding the race to keith fimian. it looks like he lost by about 900 votes. he has until november 22nd to request a recount. we are following a developing story involving that once-stranded cruise ship. the ship and the passengers are on the move again. a fox 5 follow-up. a potentially dangerous drink popular on college back. we are following a developing story off coast of mexico this morning. the first of several tugboats has reached a cruise ship stranded in the pacific of a fire in the engine room cut power to the ship. 4500 people are stuck on the broken-down ship with no air conditioning, no hot water and very little food. a mississippi man who just got out of prison for a crime he didn't commit has died. 53-year-old bobby ray dixon spent more than 30 years in prison. he got out two months ago. dna evidence cleared him of a 1979 rape and murder of a woman in mississippi. he died of cancer on sunday. his brother said he is glad dixon lived long enough to see himself cleared. ate potentially dangerous drink that has become popular among young people across the nation, four loco. it is a combination of caffeine and alcohol. one can could contain as much alcohol as five beers and as much caffeine as three to four cans of coke or soda. washington state will now take up a possible ban of the drink today. nine college students were hospitalized after drinking it. coming up next on fox 5 morning news, alcohol sales on sunday about to become reality in one local county. we'll tell you where it is today, we are all above a few degrees above normal. with that take it. reagan national, dulles international, b. i marshall, all 63 degrees yesterday for your high. average high for yesterday was 60 degrees so we topped that. our average high for today, 59. we are now dropping into the 50s for our average highs but we'll do better than that today. very nice yesterday. current temperatures around the region. we are in the 40s for the most part. 47 in washington. 48 in annapolis. manassas, 39 degrees at this hour. we've got mostly clear skies. first, new york city, 48 degrees. binghamton, 37. richmond, 43. here is your satellite-radar. mostly clear skies. got a few clouds up to the north. still some lingering rain in portions of new england. but that is not going to affect us in any way. and i don't think it will be as breezy today as it was during last couple of days as those winds begin to pull out. speaking of pulling out, there is your high pressure. that is what is going to dominate our weather for today. quiet conditions for us during the course of the day. your forecast for washington for today look like this. lots of sunshine, mild temperatures this afternoon. 62degrees for your high. very, very nice. winds out of the north five to 10 miles per hour. for tonight, we are going to see just a few clouds, cool temperatures again, what you who expect, 43 degrees, not bad at all. five-day forecast, we've got a great couple of days lined up for you after today. thursday, we've got sunshine. friday, 61, sunny. saturday and sunday, we are still dry, highs in the low 60s. so a very pleasant span of weather here for this period of time. that is a look at what is happening with the weather. now, let's get more on this morning's rush hour traffic. for that, we go to julie wright. >> good morning to you, sir. not so bad out on the roads right now if you are traveling 95 and 295 coming in out of laurel. southbound 270 working your way out of rockville. all lane are open as you continue southbound working your way out towards montrose road. we are good on the stop stretch approaching and passing 109. no problems to report on the beltway at the american legion bridge. close-in 66 as you travel in from centreville picking up the usual suspected headed eastbound. lane are open as you travel from nutley street to the beltway. southbound 95 still busy cleaning i'm tractor-trailer wreck which involved a car fire. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. montgomery county is now going to allow retail liquor stores to sell booze on sunday. the sales will begin november 21st. store hours will be from noon until 6:00. county executive ike leggett is expected to finalize that plan today. it will object a trial basis up to six months. our national mall considered to be a national treasure but it has shown signs of neglect in recent years. the interior secretary signed plan to refurbish the entire mall and preserve its historic monuments. karen gray houston takes us on a tour now. >> reporter: the jefferson memorial is one five presidential memorials on the mall. interior secretary ken salazar got a close look at a popular piece of real estate and detailed explanations about what has gone into giving it a much-needed face-lift. the seawall surrounding the tidal basin here at the jefferson memorial has sunk more than eight inches over recent years. crews have invested some heavy duty work in trying to fix it. the interior secretary said some personal thank yous including to a crane operator with 35 years of experience. >> this is about jobs in america. >> reporter: construction on shoring up the seawall started about a year ago. the park service is hoping it will be wrapped up in time for the cherry blossom festival next year. aside from the seawall, it is easy to see the jefferson, like other memorials and treasures on the mall need restoration. even the walkways leading up to it are chipping away. some tourists who get to the nation's capital infrequently hardly seem to notice. >> the last time i was here was in like 2004. it looks about the same. i thought it was beautiful then. >> we went to the mall and it looks not that bad. looks pretty nice. >> reporter: the neglect has not e the interior department, the national park service and the trust for the national mall. they have inked what is being called the final national mall plan with a vision to preserving the mall in the future including a new recycling initiative. as for all the time and effort being put into supporting the seawall, it is being called work that will last into perpetuity but will it really last forever? >> i can guarantee that you there will not be a need to reconstruct the wall here at the jefferson memorial during the lifetime of anybody here. >> karen gray houston reporting. the interior secretary and other government officials are promising to bring the national mall back to be even better than its original luster. tina fey was in the district last night to pick up a huge award. she took a little bit of time out to talk to fox 5. a childhood dream come true for the golden girl tina fey. the actress and comedienne received the mark twain prize for american humor. she is only the third woman to receive it and the youngest at 40. >> i called her and i was like -- he said rust take it for your parents' sake. i'm like you're right. >> reporter: lorne michaels and castmates came out to support fey. she received the nation's highest humor award. betty white was there and she double dipped in the district yesterday. a personal treatment came true for the actress. the fan favorite received a special honor here. she said there was always something missing in her life until yesterday. >> i just can't tell you what this day means to me. >> reporter: this golden girl who has lived 88 years won seven emmys and delighted audiences half her age and was still clinging to a childhood dream. >> today, the forest service is proud to proclaim betty white as an honorary forest ranger. >> the position comes complete with a ranger's hat. >> if you would like to try that on, we would -- here, i'll hold that for you. >> thank you. >> there we go. >> reporter: and badge. >> ms. white of course it's pleasure to present you with your own forest service badge. >> in my heart, i've been a forest ranger all my life but now i'm official. >> reporter: betty white truly appreciates nature. long before she felt the glow of the hollywood spotlight, she had already felt the warm sun on her face and enjoyed the great outdoors. >> my first memories are riding in front of my dad on his horse as we packed into the high sierras and we would go in there for three weeks and never see another two-legged soul other than birded in our lives. we would come back out and ill live all the next year waiting for our next trip into the wilderness. as excited as i am today and as degrees. ocean city, maryland is at 48 degrees. satellite-radar composite for our region, clear skies. things look great. you will see a couple of clouds stream in here from the north or east. that will be it. nothing significant and bring no precipitation with them. simply put, the forecast for today, you know it as well as i do. mostly sunny, mild and pleasant. high today into the low 60s once crash at that location. we are told of another incident northbound i-95 north of 216. southbound 270 is in great shape out of rockville she -- headed for the lane divide. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. president obama has arrived in south korea. he landed about a half our ago. this video as president obama arrived, formal meeting get under way tomorrow. mr.obama delivered a major address to students at the university of indonesia before leaving for south korea. >> america is not and never will be at war with islam. instead, all of us must work together to defeat al-qaeda and
