Prison nearly a year because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time we sit down with her family hours before he returns to the United States. Boy oh, boy tonight were beginning with the weather whiplash impacting the d. C. Region. Thanks for joining us im jim lokay. And shawn yancy. And a lot of people are are still daeling can damage with intense winds they left behind. I was across the street and i heard a loud noise and i knew it was a tree coming down and i looked out the window and i went oh, my thats our house. We had an intense storm. We went on condition red most units are on call and Emergency Communications only for about an hour. Problem was the speed at which they were moving through the area brought down a lot of trees. We have Team Coverage tonight. Sarah simmons is in gaithersburg where neighbors are power lines and trees. We start with sue palka and changes we can expect into the area overnight, hey, sue. Hey jim, shawn, we warned you last night march would come in like a lion. It d not in the temperature department. We had 80 degrees today. With the windy storms that came through with no lightning and no hail and tremendous scary damage. And i have to let you no a wind advisory will remain in effect overnight until 10 00 in the morning. So we will continue to see strong gusts overnight and im worried about limbs that may have been loosened by todays severe winds may be falling overnight and watch yourself tomorrow morning when you step on out. All of these dots incredible. They all represent a storm report that we got today of either severe winds or trees down around our area and theres just too many to count. I cherry picked three of the most dramatic ones in terms of winds gusts and quantico, virginia 1 30 storms were 78 miles an hour. Category one hurricane force. Germantown lots of damage with wind gusts of 66 miles an hour and Reagan National 54 mile an hour gusts and as we check right now theyre not at those level but are significant and stay strong overnight. Gusts between 15 and 25 miles an hour. But that whipped advisory is in place overnight. The frontal boundary has not gotten to us yet. Its right here. And one more line of showers coming with it behind it when we get another surge of wind and thats when we could see a gust maybe to 40 or 50 miles an hour which is why the wind advisory is in place. Well put the showers in motion. Maybe a very quick rum wbl those and more likely just a quick, moderate downpour that lasts on a few second. Not about the rain tonight its about strong front that comes through and brings in much colder heir and keeps us blustery through the day tomorrow ass we head for the 40s tonight. Quite a drop from 80 earlier today. But its all about that contrast severe winds and we have so much damage out there that weve got Sarah Simmons in gaithersburg monitoring how the cleanup is going tonight. Hi, sarah. Reporter hi, sue, thats right. A lot of trees, power lines down around the area. And were on this occludeded road in gaithersburg where residents had issues as well and but they had never seen anything like this before. Take a look. Powder lines that came down right here in the roadway. This is a pavement here. Actually melted from a fire a 2 feet deep hole this say twig we put down in there. And just to show you how deep it s you can see right here where the power line was just burned an area right through there where it was laying down. And at this hour mind you remember how long ago got storm was rolling in around 2 00 ow so this is still hot i can feel the heat from this it melted and turned in essentially the asphalt to what seems to be Something Like glass. So just a messndnd amaze see what happened. Take a look at video from earlier from Bonnie Barker she lives down the road and was showing us what she saw. When she looked out the window there was a blue spruce tree that had come down and huge fireball from the power lines that were here. She called 911 and the firefighters got out here fairly quick requestly and were able to put the fire out. We were talking to bonnie and she was telling us how she had just gotten home 20 minutes before that storm rolled through. We were in our living room and something that we never hear we heard twigs and sticks broken off the trees and slamming against the windows and which was interesting sound that doesnt usually happen and maybe heard a little crack not that much. And because we were on the other side of the house and my daughter came to me and says you might want to look out the window mom and we looked out and our road was completely blocked by this huge blue spruce tree and beyond that was downed wire that was live and arching. That you see there. Thankfully no major injuries to report out of this storm that came through. But its interesting you know just to see the power of what can happen here. And speaking of pour. Outages we still have, take a look. This is latest numbers we have right now at last check pepco has 107 customers without power and dominion virginia in the Northern Virginia area still has 2300 customers without power. So still a lot of work to do for sure. Thats the late nest gaithersburg, Sarah Simmons, fox5 local news. New at 10 00 tonight a story you see first on fox5. A maryland woman is is under arrest charged in connection with a virginia mans murder. Police charged Monique Williams as accessory after the fact in the murder of michael gray. They have not released details of what shes accused of doing but shes held without bond and in the meantime, police are looking for this man. This suspected gunman jason a party in arlington a week an a half ago and police are asking for the publics help locating him. More bad news for heavily scrutinized Baltimore City employment. Today seven officers were arrested and charge with federal crimes coming after month after the department of justice issued a scathing report on the operations of the Police Department after the death of freddie gray back in 2015 while in police custody. Fox5 Marina Marraco with details on the case and how it may Impact Police relations. There was a covert investigation into a specialized unit of the baltimore Police Department. The investigation happened beyond our beltway but its raising questions about corruption within other police and federal prosecutors called the 7 Police Officers thieves in uniform and 190 style gang sisters and allegations stem from crimes investigators say started back in 2015. And continued throughout 2016. Including falsely detaining people and stealing money from records to cover up their tracks. And the 7 Baltimore City cops belong to the Gun Trace Task force a quad tracking and removing illegal guns from the streets. They alleged an instance where four of the 7 officers areged a man during a traffic stop. Confiscated drugs and nearly 20,000. But the officers only turned over 15,000 as evidence. And vettors althose same officers then went to the mans home and stole 200,000 and,000 watch from a safe and we spoke to former Police Detective and he said these specialized units can at times fly under radar. They felt that gave them the privilege to take advantage from a number of citizens on the street. The problem is that the citizens they were taking these weapons and drugs from they never report today for a long period of time. Someone tipped off the dea in te one of the individual on the street. And as a result, the professional Ethics Division of the baltimore Police Department initiated internal investigation and then over the the course of a year they were able to substantially collect a lot of evidence including wire taps in which they got some officers actually talking about some of the things they did on tape. And allegations go beyond street crimes. Prosecute rz say collectively officers charmed the department nearly 500,000 in over time. And some of them nearly doubling salaries and investigators con tend theres evidence one of the officers filed for five days of pay while on vacation with his family in south carolina. Other officers allegedly fired for over time while drvrping and gambling at the maryland liver casino. Youre always going to have bad apples with the ranks of employment and any job. But within the ranks of Police Department xwr is that. Police officers are given a lot of autonomy on in police. And so when these officers violate that trust and violate that faith the citizens put into them its a plaque mark against the Police Department in general and all police. Going forward i think again every Police Department will be more aware of these types of things and hopefully it doesnt happen again. And already five high profile gun cases were dropped because prosecutors believe these oyvrd tainted cases all 7 officers will have first hearing before a federal judge tomorrow and hours ago the baltimore fraternal order of police relooseed this statement saying were very disturbed over the charges filed against our members by the u. S. Attorney today and these officers are entitled to due process and fair trial in accordance with the constitution and laws of our state. Jim.
