shawn this started under going renovations more than a year. you can see this playground still incomplete. renovations will cost the city nearly $7 million. former mayor vincent gray serving as council member in ward seven. he approved the budget for the renovations but he would have never approved the design he says he certainly would they ever signed off on end result. >> i don't understand how anybody can self destructing contractor or architect could approve this. >> reporter: approved and open to the public, not officially yet. the department of parks and recreation says there's things like a playground that still need to be completed but the areas that have been completed have not been well received. at least not by the most even though in this community, including was two years ago that dc fire and ems was trying to communicate with metro officials. they were having difficulties doing it. you can imagine the frustration. just a few months ago, san francisco light rail system, they were the victim of a ransom wear attack shutting down entire operation through its computers. that's prominenting senator mark warner to address a letter to the general manager. he says i'm concerned that may reply a particular enticing target for more advanced threats given its importance to the region and the number of federal agencies that rely on the system to maintenance in updating done for years, almost ten-year period. senator warner is in a position to help, we need money. as you know what was starved for money. the federal government contributes no money on the operating side 150 million on the capitol side which is a drop in the bucket. which is compared to the literally bills of dollars to upgrade the system. >> reporter: we know they made announcements about expanding the cellar capability. that was shoulding supposed to happen years ago. the shore mentioned he was glad to see some progress being made in that a, something that was long overdue. some other questions when was the last time complete overhaul of the system, how was it prepared for a ransom wear attack? how will it coordinate with local and regional leader if there's an emergency? a few of several questions that he had for metro's general manager. we hope that they will address that he is in the coming days. we reached out to metro tonight to get a response to some for the inauguration and various inauguration-relateded events. these tickets are also popping up on third party websites for sale. be careful. what you're being on the third party site may not be the real thing. now, this concern about third party vendors potentially selling fake tickets is nothing new but with the rise in social media platforms, it is more widespread. >> tickets like you said, they're free, and if you have questions and we have a website, i encourage people to go out there to check on the website to make sure they're getting the correct information, and to come out celebrate with us. you have to get the official tickets through members of congress and joint congressional committee. they have the official tickets to the inaugural ceremonies. we will have more coming online throughout the week but for swearing in and welcome celebration, those tickets are completely free, anyone is welcome to come. >> reporter: each member's office managing their own underway to find suspect who shot and killed a police officer at an orlando wal-mart. it happened around 7:00 this morning, police believe 41-year-old lloyd way shoplifting from wal-mart. he opened fire on an officer who approached him. about an hour later, a second was killed in crash scrambling to find the suspect. authorities say they already been searching for lloyd for a month. he is the only suspect in the death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend. the iraq war veteran accused of firing shots at the fort lauderdale airport made his court appearance today. esteban santiago is facing three federal charges, two of them carry the death penalty if convicted. wi in court and mostly had his head down during the 30 minutes hearing. he's accused of killing five people and wounding six others in last friday's shooting. investigators say santiago has admitted to carrying out the attack but still unclear what his motive was or why he picked fort lauderdale. several years after a man shot and pleasing please welcome fashion model kyla henderson. welcome, welcome. how are you? >> i'm fantastic. >> what a huge change, you've been an educator most of your adult life at the age of 46. why become a fashion model >> because when opportunity presents itself, you got to go for it. >> wow. i mean, so we're looking at some of your pictures, some of these fabulous pictures that you did. what -- where did this come from? our audience may not know this but you were a child model actor, so this is nothing new, certainly not quite like this. tell us about that. >> it was a totally kind of sir rent dipty situation. eloqy is the retailer that i modeled for, they feature customers who do substantive work and they featured a good friend of mine kenya bradshaw. i saw her pictures, flown to new york, in these beautiful clothes. she said i can call them and ask them if they would feature you i wasn't like that would be great. boom, and so. it was that easy. i spoke to the eloqy folks and they were excited about having me talk about my career, and to do some modelling for them, and so they flew me to new york city and they glammeded me up. i going to to wear these super cool clothes. it was amazing. then they called me back and they said looking we've gotten so much of a positive response, would you do some work for our february catalogue? i flew to new york again in february. we'll have a bunch of new pictures out and lots o >> we're looking at pictures right now on website right now. i have to ask you, you had no choice but to be a role model in your career leading a school district with more than 50,000 children. a lot of little girls these days, a lot of young women look up to models who were on tv. we got the body image issues. what do you hope they see when they see your pictures >> i feel like each of us is whoever we are. and i may not be the ideal size that i want to be, whatever size i am, i'm going to rock it and i want kids to know that, if you want to lose weight or fine with who you are, be glamorous, beautifuling bright, and be yourself. part of this is that for me. >> i got to get to the other side of this, when you resigned in september. a lot of people were stunned. we're just a couple of into the school year. then came word that the dc ethics board censored you for violate the school's code of conduct and asking school contractors to give major money to support a gala that was honoring teachers. is that why you resigned? >> no, i resigned way before and that was to be frank very incidental. i was send chambered which effectively means they were disappointed. but i was following a precedent that had been set. i'll never apologize to raising money for on you teachers. >> you're saying previous administration had done something similar >> the previous administrations had done not something similar, the exact say that thing and you know, anywhere else, it wouldn't be a big deal. in the charter sector they ask their vendors to contribute to support schools all the time. in this world of hyper ethics, i understand how it ran afoul of the that i didn't intended to anything wrong. >> why did you resign a couple weeks into the school year >> i resigned in june. i think we announced on june 27th. nine years in leadership at dc public schools is like 27 years somewhere else. and running, you know, 250 miles an hour, day that and day out. not seeing my family as much as i wanted to. highly stressful and i was tired. >> i can understand that. last but not least. now that you've walked away and you can look back and what you did for dc public schools, do you have any regrets? do you wish you could go back and fix something or change something now that you've stepped away >> i don't have any regrets at all. i feel proud of the work that we've done at dc public schools. i was at the georgetown game this evening and the eastern senior high school band was pl they smashed it of one of my profound things is i put more money in for music and art and bands and choirs to be back in schools. i look at the kids who traveled abroad, fact that we've had had type of consecutive enroll meant growth. i'm not the kind of leader who believes i'm the only person who can leave. i believe i took it from where it was to where it is now and i'm happy to pass the baton on to antwon wilson who i think is going to run with it further
