teenager is dead after collapsing at bowie hi school. it happened this afternoon. word of the tragedy just came in a short time ago. fox a's roby chavez is live in bowie with the very latest. what do you know? >> reporter: brian, a horrible chain of events unfolded here inside the school at bowie high school this afternoon during basketball practice. the student that died here at the school was exercising with the basketball team. he fell, collapsed and later died. now, it is quiet here tonight at the school. but here is what we know about what happened inside the school this afternoon. the 16-year-old boy was at bowie high school and suddenly fell. it all happened about 4:00 this afternoon. officials say the boy was taking part in a basketball practice and was jogging around the gym. a teammate a short time ago tells us the basketball team was practicing and coaches made the boys run laps because someone was talking. after three laps the teen collapsed and never recovered. there were about 25 students in the gym at the time. this student who was in the gym tells me many of them were in ears. he also tells me that two fellow students tried to perform cpr on the student but it was unsuccessful. the boy was transported but died a short time later. it is not known whether or not the boy had any kind of heart condition. at this point we imagine that officials are waiting for official word from the coroner to determine whether or not -- what contributed to his death. friends tell us the 16-year-old was a very tall young man, athletic and very funny. they also tell us at this point the school has not sent out an e-mail so the first word many students here at bowie high may get of this may be tomorrow morning when they show up. for now we're live at bowie high school, roby chavez, fox 5 news. >> we hope to learn more tomorrow. new developments tonight in another big story. a pilot crashed his plane into an austin, texas office building housing i.r.s. workers. those employees sent running for their lives. new crews have discovered a second body in the wreckage meaning everyone is accounted for and we're learning more about the man behind the suicide attack. fox a's will thomas here now with this one. >> reporter: it wasn't enough just to take his own life, burn down his home and leave his wife and 12-year-old daughter behind. the pilot intended to take many more lives with him. we learned no rad scrambled two f-16s over austin after getting word of the crash. a desperate and deliberate act. a 53-year-old software engineer who recently moved to austin from california took his own life and wanted to take out as many i.r.s. workers as he could. here's a look at joe sef stack. he may have played in a band at one time but the music stopped about 10:00 a.m. that's when investigators say he flew his single engine airplane into the seven-story office building that housed nearly 200 i.r.s. workers. >> fortunately i can just say that some folks might have seen this aircraft coming and yelled out some warnings. >> reporter: heroic stories of federal workers helping one another to minimize injuries and loss of life will likely emerge in the coming days. a witness who lives in a nearby apartment describes an inferno. >> as soon as it cleared our view, our line of sight, a ball of flames shot up like higher than the apartments. >> reporter: shortly before the crash investigators say joseph stack set his own home on fire. neighbors reported hearing a loud noise that sounded like a car crash and soon saw flames. stack's wife and young daughter weren't home. now it's becoming clear he had tax problems and blamed the i.r.s. in what's believed to absuicide note -- to be a suicide note he posted on a blog stack says there are two interpretations for every law. one for the very rich and one for the rest of us. that little lesson in patriotism cost me $40,000 plus ten years of my life and set my retirement plan back to zero. well, mr. big brother, i.r.s. man, let's try something different. take my pound of flesh and sleep well." in the same long rant he talks about job frustration. remember, he moved to texas looking for a better life for himself and his family. he says i've never experienced such a hard time finding work. the pay rates in austin are one- third of what i was earning before the dot-com -- [ indiscernible ] two bodies recovered tonight, joseph stack and a federal worker missing. a 32-year-old man was walking on branch avenue this morning when he was hit near kneeler road. he was walking in the street because the sidewalks are covered with snow. he worked for the ail culture department and -- agriculture department and was headed to the metro station. many riders are being forced to walk inthe street. i don't know when it's going to get cleaned up. i have a 3-year-old son. i have to walk with him every morning when i go to work on the street. >> the driver who hit the man took off. police are still searching for that person tonight. new details in a vicious dog attack at dulles airport. customs officials say one of its dogs attacked a 4-year-old girl today. tonight investigators are trying to figure out why the canine bit that child. roz plater tells us how it all happened. >> reporter: mid-morning in the baggage claim area at dulles airport, a customs dog on a training ercise suddenly attacks a 4-year-old girl. off camera witnesses say they heard the mother's screams and saw the dog bite the toddler in her side, clamp down and refuse to let go. news of the attack is terrifying to parents. >> it's horrific. i have a 4-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son. you know, it's horrible. >> well, i think it's absolutely terrible. i wonder why something like that would happen. i even, what about the people training the dogs. >> reporter: those are the same questions customs investigators are now asking. the agency tells fox 5 the dog was on a leash and with an experienced handler. >> it's the first time've heard of this at any airport so, you know, i don't know what might have triggered it or, you know, what may have made the dog react like that. >> reporter: customs says the dog is a belgium malawa like the breed pictured here. the dog is currently in quarantine back at the agency's training facility in front royal. now some passengers are asking if training the dogs at the airport around so many people including children is the right thing to do. >> unfortunately that's the age we live in now since 9/11. you know, maybe better safe than sorry. it's an unfortunate incident and i hope the child is okay. >> reporter: by phone a customs spokesperson called what happened, quote, a terrible situation. she says they're investigating and taking it very seriously. the good news tonight we're told the toddler is back home fm the hospital. we've also learned tonight that customs says it is suspending its dog training program at dulles for now until investigators figure out just what happened. >> roz platetonight. a fire at a maryland nursing home and there are injuries. shawn yancy is everywhere at 11:00. >> two residents and a firefighter were hurt in this. it happened at the paint branch nursing home in beltsville. firefighters got it under control quickly but 19 residents had to be removed. many are bedridden or confined to wheelchairs. the dalai lama says he's very happy following his meeting with president obama at the white house today. it was politically sensitive meeting, one opposed by the chinese government which controls tibet. beijing says the tibetan spiritual leader is trying to break tibet away from china. he said he only wants more freedom for his people. dubai's police chief says he's found providers in seven states have asked for huge premium increases some as high as 56%. fortunately not in our area but in california 700,000 households are facing a 25% to 39% increase. number four, taking an aspirin a day may help lower the risk of dying from breast cancer. researchers at harvard found cancer patients who regularly took aspirin had a50% lower risk from dying -- of dying from the disease and a% lower risk the cancer would spread. making new drivers even safer behind the wheel. the maryland highway safety foundation is pushing for new rules and more education a a seen all sorts of reasons for traffic gridlock. but how about a zebra? that story on the other side of the break. sphwhrz did you see it? traffic is a zoo. a zebra holding up traffic in atlanta. his handlers from ringling brothers barnum & bley says he got spooked and broke free around 4:30 this afternoon. for 25 minutes he literally ran around the town, wound up on the highway. cops chasing him on bikes, on foot, in cars. finally they corralled him and loaded him into a truck. the fallout a traffic jam. a lot of shocked people and some cuts on the zebra's hooves. that sounded just like a dr. seuss book that i read every night. more than a week after the blizzard the big dig of course far from over. here's proof. check out these streets in northwest. still covered in snow. mounds of it the snow dragon. it doesn't breathe fire but it does heat things up. >> reporter: it's come all the way from antory -- ontario, canada. >> the came came to our rescue. >> reporter: the city of baltimore figured the canadians know a little something about snow. >> he envy you for having this much snow. we've had a very lackluster winter in canada this year. >> reporter: you're a little jealous? >> we're very jealous, yes. >> reporter: jealous and happy to help. the inside is like ant jacuzzi tub. the temperature spikes to 120 degrees. you can see the steam pouring out. what doesn't turn into steam becomes water. then rolls into the chesapeake bay. the gunk gets separated out. >> it's nasty. it's very nasty. >> reporter: the process melts about 10 to 12 truckloads in an other. i understand this parking lot looks a little different than a few days ago. >> very different. >> reporr: in fact it looked something like this. take a look at all this ?oam. now, since monday alone, this one machine has melted 1,500 dump trucks full of this. the snow dragon is mobile so baltimore is moving it all over the is i good we just don't have any space. this is helping us move that know so we can free up space for parking, movement, mobility, facilitating the movement of traffic. so this has helped us a grt deal. >> reporter: renting the snow dragon cost baltimore $300 an hour. city blue skies we saw in the background. made a huge difference. even low 40s makes a big difference. a lot of dripping going on. wereit again tomorrow. it's a good trend we're starting off tomorrow. it's not particularly warm and still mieptsy wind -- mighty windy out there. looks like the breeze will be back with us tomorrow. eventually things will get back to normal here. as we continue to track our next storm system coming in, it's looking a little better and still several days out but looking a little better than perhaps it's not going to be bringing us a lot of accumulation so that's good. we don't need anymore. do want to mention the jet stream is in position that will continue to keep 40s going here through the weekend and then after that it looks like temperatures are going to get colder again starting with the monday storm that's going to get to a position of pulling in colder air next week. we have to get our melting in while we can. the temperature trend will promote that. 43 degrees for us tomorrow. saturday 44, warmest day of the week. breezy both days. on sunday should be about 43 degrees. our storm system will likely arrive monday afternoon. temperature wise 36 degrees. so we probably still see some kind of mix in there and maybe tuesday a little bit of snow after this storm begins to move away and pull in some colder air. meanwhile not a lot of warmth anywhere in the country. it's 29 in buffalo. 32 in cincinnati. chicago 27. 12 in fargo. not too much in the way of heat for us to monitor or to even see if there's any trend of anything coming in our direction but the warmest temperatures i'm finding in new orleans and tampa at 48 degrees. temperature around the region here, still 38 degrees so it's been kind of hanging tough there thanks to that wind. it doesn't allow us to get too terribly cold. >> 34 in githersburg. 37 at dulles and 36 in manassas. breeze is pretty relentless tonight still gusting to 22 in the city. still gusting to 30 in martinsburg and 21 in leonardtown that gives us windchills into the 20s and that's how it will be again tomorrow. during the day in the 30s and at night 20s with our air temperature still climbing again to 43 degrees. expect the breeze. snow showers may linger up a cross new york. it continues to snow nonstop in a few spots since monday night. that is finally winding down w. ale very a big area of high pressure building n. we can't difference the breeze just yet for a couple of days but at least we'll have afternoon sunshine with a gusty wind around as our low finally departs. now, as we look toward the five- day forecast, we're going to 43 degrees tomorrow. sunshine is back with us. the breeze is there as well. saturday should be 44 degrees. right now the weekend looking really good. we see our temperature on sunday at about 43 degrees but definitely cool foremonday. some kind of -- for monday. some kind of mix of rain or snow probably beginning monday afternoon. that's about as specific as we can get at this point. as you well know from the entire winter, it really doesn't start shaping up till the saturday, sunday time frame. we'll continue to watch this for you. tuesday 37
