the temperatures we hit with the daytime highs, 97 at national airport. 94 at dulles. 98 at baltimore and we still have the heat advisory through until 8:00 tonight for our area as well. so, this means with the heat and humidity, it will feel like 105 degrees out there. right now it feels like it's about 102 at national airport. it's 96 air temperature-wise. 93 at dulles feeling like 98 degrees. and it feels like 103 in baltimore at 97 degrees. satellite and radar composite, we dodged a bullet across the main city areas with storms that plowed to the south and east of us. we aren't quite out of the clear. we could see a pop up thunderstorm before it's said and done. storms, possibly warm and muggy at 78 degrees. a light northerly wind. finally a bit of a dip ahead in the thing. waking up in the middle of a fire is unreal. that is what happened at a dc apartment building on investigate avenue that sent several people to the hospital. karen gray houston has more now. >> reporter: residents of 3654 investigate are now dealing with the aftermath. >> a knock on my door. got me and my granddaughter down the steps. >> reporter: maddie's father daughters came by to make sure she is okay. >> he mistakenly turned on the bar near instead of the oven -- burner instead of the oven. >> reporter: two people suffered smoke inhalation. >> i smelled all this smoke. then it got in my apartment. i got my cat and ran out barefoot in my bath robe. >> reporter: the heat wave is taking its toll on the georgetown waterfront. business would normally be bruce willing with sunday brunch customers. some of these restaurants have barely recovered from recent flooding: back in april, water levels rose high enough to float furniture and shut down restaurants. so they have been serving customers on terraces outside since. only a few diehard customers showed up at tony and joe's this sunday in the heat. >> a friend of mine has a boat and brings it down. one way to beat the to move back in by next march. karen gray houston, fox 5 news. the energy saving program kicked into emergency mode friday. the company says for six hours the system cycled power on and off reducing energy demand by about 60 omega watts. some people that participate in the savings plan say they didn't have air-conditioning for as long as ten hours that day. it meant 90-degree temperatures inside the sixth state in addition to dc to legalize garr marriage. a loudoun county man says he was beaten when two other men showed up at his door yesterday. the 21-year-old said he thought it was a friend knocking yesterday morning on hidden grove court. when he opened the door, he was attacked. the men rifled through the house. loudoun county sheriff is gathering evidence and leads in the case. a fairfax county psychiatrist killed in an apparent murder-suicide served as a mentor to other therapists. dr. mark lawyer wednesday republicans was semi -- lawrence was semi-retired but he was still seeing other patients including barbara new man. investigators say she is the one that shot him to death friday afternoon then shot herself. a friend of lawrence told "the washington post" the doctor was concerned about newman but he did not believe she was a threat. the suspect in the norwegian terror attacks has confessed to the bombings and shootings. police raid add home in oslo searching for more answers to the devastating terror attacks. they were looking for explosives but they did not find any. the lawyer for anders breivik said he was wanted as the triggerman in an antimuslim revolution in norway. he published a rant vowing revenge on those that he believed betrayed norwegian heritage. it is about 1500 pages long. police have transported victims of the shooting back to the mainland. the youth labor party camp is on an island. at least 86 people died when police say breivik opened fire monday. the head of surgery at the hospital in oslo said the gunman used special bullets designed to explode inside the body. one survivor spoke about how a 10-year old boy stood up to the gunman even though his father had just been killed. >> the boy defended himself and said yet on what killed singer amy winehouse. tonight music fans are coming to terms with her sudden death. people in london are leaving flowers, photos and candles outside the town house where the multiple grammy winner was found dead yesterday. police said her death is categorized as unexplained. preliminary autopsy results aren't expected before tomorrow. she was 27 years old. a roller coaster ride where an iraq war vet fell to his death has reopened. the ride of steal is what it's called. officials investigated the death of marine sergeant james hakameer. he lost both legs in the war died after being thrown from his seat. the resort has been cited for safety violations. a 7-year-old virginia boy with a dangerous seizure disorder became a bit of a celebrity today. he held his first and only book signing in our area. i'm sure many more to come. meet evan moss. he signed copies of my seizure dog in alexandria today. the event is aimed at helping to pay for a service dog that last minute donation. the soot announce -- the zoo announced it would have to send the animals away. >> we all heard it a million times. when you are in trouble, state farm is there. we were in trouble. they came. >> reporter: bob lamm is the executive director of friends of the national zoo and said local state farm agents like keith edwards convinced their company to donate $1.4 million, enough money to keep the farming for the next five years. you can't save the zoo today and not tomorrow. the bottom line is the petting farm needs to be preserved long term. it's an important part of the community. >> we were overwhelmed. surpassed our expectations. it's a barometer how the kids feel. >> in return for the sponsorship, state farm gets to put names on signs. in return, they get to the money, the zoo says it needs about $100,000 more and hopes to raise the money through private donations. isn't that funny, state farm is one of those jingles that sticks in your brain,. ♪ state of the areas. things will break a little bit relatively speaking that is. tomorrow we have more clouds as we start out monday. the week will start with a chance of more thunderstorms in the forecast. be prepared for that if you are heading out in the morning hours. temperatures will drop to the low 90s. there is many a day when we say it's 91, 92, it's so hot. relatively speaking, compared to what we have been dealing with, this will be a welcome relief. late week the humidity will increase all over again. then we will be back into the soup of things. here is what the highs were today. cooler than yesterday. once again, relatively speaking. 97 at national airport. we hit 102 yesterday. 98 at baltimore. but now the temperatures are still in the 40s. we still have the humidity sticking around. we have this heat advisory in effect until 8:00 tonight. take it seriously. it just means that it will still feel like it's in the triple digits as you step outside. 96 at national. 98 gaithersburg. to the south 91 in fredricksburg. 95 baltimore. up the mid-atlantic, boston at 73. 84 for new york city. to the south 92 in richmond. now a look at the heat indices. feels like 101 at national airport. feels like it's 100 in annapolis and 101 in baltimore. we are still having the sticky muggy atmosphere. moist unstable atmosphere that is in the area right now. it's not going away none too soon. national temperatures, take a look. we have 104 in dallas. very warm there. little rock 86 degrees. 93 in nashville. the entire central portion of the city to the east in the heat wave and just starting to get a very slow reprieve is what we will be dealing with. that is because we have a frontal system moving through. today we had a few storms that raced to the south. a lot of activity to the east over delmarva moving out. some of you saw this activity, some not at all. we could still see a storm or two popping up because we are in this moist unstable atmosphere and we have a frontal system heading our way and ahead of it the storms will pop up. tomorrow as the storm moves to the south of us, another chance of storms. where the thunderstorms hit, there were pockets of heavy rainfall as well. that is another thing that we will keep an eye on. tomorrow and late tonight, expect to see a chance of these storms. hazy, hot and humid. it will bring in cooler air so the temperatures tomorrow will be in the low 90s versus the upper 90s and the triple digits. that's the break we will get. i have to stress relatively speaking of course. tomorrow, could possibly see a storm in the morning hours. more likely by the afternoon. midday 84 degrees. keep your umbrella handy. as we move into tonight, slight chance of a storm popping up. it will be muggy in the overnight hours, 78. tomorrow the daytime highs 92 degrees. a look at the five-day forecast, where we will get a break on tuesday from the wet weather, although we desperately need the rain, we will be back to dryer conditions. things heat up late week as another ridge of high pressure builds in and the humidity will creep back up ever so slowly again. so, still up and down. >> how about that fanning again. >> do you want me to fan you? sorry. show me the money, babe. an airfare break courtesy of congress. not all airlines are sharing the wealth. until washington works out an agreement to keep the faa running, airline tickets will not include some federal taxes that account for about 10% of the ticket price. if you are looking to find a cheaper ticket because of that, you have to shop around. some
