over the weekend, one of them, maybe ruled a justifiable homicide police made arrests in two other cases prince georges county police say by the time all the gunshots had been fired, 12 people were shot, 5 of the victims dead a total of 7 different incidents. fox 5s paul wagner is in the newsroom with what police are saying paul. will, the violent weekend at the county included a drug related gun battle between two young men that ended the life of a 17-year-old a justifiable killing a robbery suspect was killed and the murder of an 83- year-old woman shot to death by her granddaughter. the 32-year-old was arrested sunday charged with killing her grandmother the exact motive is unknown but police categorized it as a domestic. in another case domestic, investigators arrested audria black well and charged her with killing ashley mcclerken and 19- year-old lester was shot to death in an apparent robbery attempt on wood bury street in louis dale. the police chief described the murders and other nonfatal shootings as an exception to what the county has experienced over the last 14 months. >> currently our community has recorded 17 murders, one of those attributed to a 1989 assault case, we have a 37 as of today we have a 37% reduction in murders we are currently down in contact shootings and overall crime is down in the county this department never forgets though these numbers represent members of our community who have familyloved ones that is why our officers work so hard to bring a resolution to these cases. >> two other shootings in the county left four people wounded buses start picking kids up at 5:45 a.m., and classes start at 7:20 a.m. in the morning, we -- the proposal or what is before the school board right now is a resolution, and the resolution simply sets a goal it is not actually going to change the high school start time, but it is a step in the right direction. >> what are you hoping for? what would be your ideal. >> some time after 8:00 a.m. in the morning. >> why would this make such a difference in your opinion. >> well, research shows very clearly when school start times are aligned with the teen body clock, that there are a number of benefits including decreases in car crashes, decreased depression, improved school atten dense, decreases in drop out rates and just general behaviour and atmosphere in the school improves, and learning improves when teens are able to get enough sleep, and later start times have been shown, definitely, to result in more sleep for teens, it is a myth that they would stay up later they don't they go to bed about the same time when their bodies are ready for sleep. >> and if i understand this correctly you are talking about a 40 minute difference what about getting kids to bed a little earlier or perhaps cutting back on enormous amounts of homework so they can wind down earlier. >> we definitely are in favour of reasonable amounts of homework that is an important thing and it is important to have some time to wind down, before you go to sleep, but the bottom line is the research continues to show over and over again every study that is done, when you start school later, the teens use that time for extra sleep >> this is an effort under way nearly a decade the school board last considered this in 2009 what are you doing to gain momentum this time how likely is it it will come to fruition. >> the hope is this resolution does two things sets a goal for after 8 and directs the super intin dent to select information from school divisions that have start times after 8:00 a.m. our neighbors, louden county starts at 9, arden county after 8, alexandria all changed their start times to later we would like to see how that did it and how they managed after school reporter: this trip hasn't been easy his gate is unsteady and painful, hampered by policers and fatigue. the people he met along the way, kept him going. >> everyone so nice stopping and giving me
