>> we're not going to just as some have done here in the past. just because it's president trump idea or thought. we're going to oppose it per se. when we can work together, we will. i've also said to the president-elect on issues where we disagree, you can expect a strong and tough fight. >> democratic strategist joining us right now by skype, carter good evening. what can we see with chuck schume trump >> we're going to have to see what he's willing to concede to schumer. i think it's going to be contentious. we all knew that no matter who won, it would be tough. but, you know, schumer -- he's a new yorker. he's shares some of the same personality traits as trump. he's been at this a long time. certainly establishment. i think the democrats are in a position where they're trying to of their reactions to trump and the things that he does. it's too early to say. i think hopefully there will be some good will early on, and those two can work together, but to be honest, i'm not terribly optimistic. >> chuck schumer read a statement saying there's no debate whether we should be the party of the diverse obama correlation or the blue collar workers. i believe there does not have to be a division. now that he's -- has this think he will be instrumental in sort of making a change? and could this then lead to what we've also seen, a transition among house democrats and nancy pilosi >> if you look at the team he put together today, it's pretty diverse. he said clear he's trying to go oh after both goals. i think he can pull it off. i think that's really the best hope of democrats, to be able to again with white working class voters, but also, bring some of oh those occupied folks back and some of those anti-wall street folks. i think that's the right strategy. it's going to be tough but i believe he's got a good team. at big team. interesting to see how well they can maneuver with a team that size. you know, this wave that we saw tuesday, it started about exactly eight years ago, when barack obama was elte so that's what's going to happen. we're going to -- the democrats are going to come back together. what that looks like in the precise shape, it's going to be a response of what we see from trump over the next hundred days >> you mentioned the occupied wall street crowd. think about the up surge democrats, the elizabeth warrens and bernie sanderses, then you have chuck schumer who's known to be a proponent of wall street. that's what you want to see some back. >> that's the challenge that he has. some people criticized his choice today for those reasons,s, but you know, the senate knows where they're at. they selected him, unanimously. you know, what he brings is experience. he got a good persona to be the front man for the senate democrats. he's tough. he's comfortable in front of the camera. he can be the mouthpiece. i don't necessarily think his pick means that they're going to drop the wall street folks. somehow that's back. i think that voice is going to be there. again, depending on what we see from trump over the next couple hundred days, that voice might get louder. and schumer, we may see a shift in him and he starts to side with warren and sanders and others >> what have they said about chuck schumer? the most dangerous place to be is between him an camera. >> that's what i've heard. you got donald trump as the president. >> that's absolutely right. carter. >> thank you for joining us. opposite sides. how president-elect trump will work with congress. republican rob woodman and democratic congress jerry con lorand >> i think we start with a great deal of his tansy. and frankly the appointment of steve bannon a racist is not a reassuring. mike pence is i have a tremendous amount of respect for him concerning the variety of folks that are out there and the great cross-section of experience they bring to the table. which i think would make a fantastic team there to make sure we get the work of the nation done. >> so the fear from both sides is things won't get done. but both lawmakers say they're excited about the future and hoping to get things done. in the long run >> we'll be watching. there's been a lot of grid locking. >> always happens. you see everybody holding hands when the administration comes in >> comes down to the work. >> that's what matters. hillary clinton is still leading donald trump in the popular vote by nearly a million votes. she will not be president. donald trump leading in electoral votes, 306 to 232. the electoral college, which will cast its ballots december 17th, retiring is introducing a bill that would do away with the elecra lenny stein horn is here, this happens, we heard a big uproar in 2000 when it was al gore on the popular votes and lenny talking about what we saw four years ago during president obama's reelection, when a guy named donald trump said the electoral college was a joke. >> exactly. look. this has been an issue a long time. this is now the fifth election in our nation's history in which the winner of the popular vote is not going to be occupying the and in last five election, two democrats have won the popular vote. but lost the electoral college. look, the critics of the electoral college say it violates the principle of one person, one vote. there is one election tore in wyoming for every 2000 people, one in california for every 700,000 people. a lot of folks that doesn't seem right. >> lenny, how do you explain this to many of the milleia parents and friend encouraged them. at the end of the day their candidate didn't win they're saying she won the popular vote but not electoral vote. high vote doesn't matter. how do you explain that to them >> if they were from can wisconsin or pennsylvania or florida or north carolina or all those states that were competitive, it would have mattered. this is the problem. if you're only in the certain states that the electoral college, you know, favors in but if you're from california or new york or text, for that matter, your vote doesn't matter all that much. so this is what a lot of people say is a problem. and they also say that it takes people away from campaigning in the population centers. and there's a reason, perhaps, why we're not talking about poverty and inner city issues when you don't have people campaigning in new york and los angeles and houston and some of the other big cities. so it does skew the debates, e it skews where people campaign. so those are some of the problems with the electoral college. >> do you want to go on record here? keep it or get rid >> i would get rid of it. there's shortcomings. let's say it was a close vote. you'd have to have a national sort of recount and that could get messy. in the long run, you can't ignore and dismiss the will of the people >> you're talking about doing something that would require legislatures to ratify because you would have to oh go ahead and amend the constitution. the states that matter, you're talking about the iowas and nebraskas and the states that don't get a lot of attention but fiercely contested. they're not going to stand for that. they like the way things are right now. >> we'll see. american university professor lenny stein horn. do you need a job? do you want to work trump transition >> not just a cabinet there are 4,000 job incoming white house has to fill. if you live in washington, you're in the right place. >> tom fitzgerald gerald, that's a lot of job to fill >> shawn and jim, you're not looking for a job >> i got to be honest, sounds interesting >> not a chance. >> reporter: i've seen that room. i've seen that. >> felt right. >> reporter: the deal is this. most of the people in our area who work for the government are what's called g s, government employees, it doesn't matter who the president is. they have that job. now, these other jobs they have, these are called schedule cappointees, those are jobs th president. you got 4,000 of these, how to have to be approved by congress. if what you want these jobs? what if you want to work in the trump white house. costume, one second, we're busy here, one moment. this is what he want you to do and this is what we were told today by the trump people. we're back on camera so we can show folks exactly what we're talking about. this is the website. this is going to be the repository for all the resumes. putting your resume on this website turns out it's not as easy as just that. here's the reason why. we spoke to someone, doesn't want to give out their name. they don't want their employer to know and they also don't want to raise attention to them they're trying to get a job in the trump white house and they told us this. through the at the city, ever get a job is not only putting their resumes into this site in the database, but they're also reaching out to the think tanks across the city. why? they're going to be different think tanks, area that is have expertise in these different subject and departments in the government. trying to get both backing and endorsements from these think tanks in order to headache themselves look better to the trump transition team. and the question was this. listen, everybody has their own talent. some people are better at some things than others. we asked them this. if they came to you at the white house and they said we need you in the administration, what job would you want to do? >> what area of an administration do you think that you would be interested in? >> i'm in accounting. i work with numbers, accounting >> you could run the budget >> yes. >> >> why security? >> guys look like they're having a good time >> social secretary. >> are you a social person? >> yes. >> probably be good at being a fire sprinkler technician >> tour guide. i would be a good tour guide >> walk people in the oval office >> pardon me? >> walk people into the oval office >> absolutely. >> reporter: you're not supposed >> the website again is great again.gov. the trump to transition office, you've seen most of it the activity going on at trump tower, they set up offices here at 19th and s street. this is the general services administration, quite honestly, most of the activities so far has been going on up in new york. but once the trump team gets rolling, this building is going to have a lot more activity in the coming weeks. >> we'll be keeping an eye that for sure. thank you, fitz. we heard a lot of back and forth about whose in that, out. grumbling >> getting things rolling. there's lot going on. >> we had the heritage foundation and they're saying they're one of those think tanks, how about this guy and woman?
