Surgery, condition at this hour, we dont know, but we do know that Us Capitol Police did have this man on their radar, as far as who he is, theyll not publicly identify him just yet. But inside the capitol complex, inside the Visitors Center, there were hundreds of people to go, movies going on in the theatres inside the visitor complex, and some people reporting they heard the gunshot. And we heard from witness that is there were reportedly just two shots, and thats why there would be conflict willing reports, because depending where youre standing in that visitors complex, fairly large, you may have heard them or not. But what they did hear was shear panic from those around them, at that point, it seems like by all accounts, Us Capitol Police ability dollars extremely quickly, gathered everyone they corks managed to put everyone inside the theater rooms, and it was there where they sheltered in place for about 20 minutes, until they know that the threat at that point was neutralized and it seems at this point it was just an isolated event, a single gunman, now in custody, like you heard was transported to an area hospital, were still learning more, the good news in all of this, there were conflicting report, initially, no officers injured, a woman said to be somewhere between 35 to 40 years old, seems to have suffered minor injuries, although we dont know at this point if she, too, was shot. So a lot of information coming down. The Us Capitol Police chief saying that theyve located the suspect vehicle on capitol complex. Theyre now waiting for a search warrant. But we know that those warrant can be put into effect, relatively quickly, so were waiting for that search warrant to come wn and learn more about who this man was, and what his purpose was, this afternoon here at the us capitol. Live tonight, from northeast, marina morocco, fox5 local news. Were standing by other side of the capitol, east side, paul you have spoke win several witnesses, one of them actually in the lobby where it all seems to have begin down, paul . Im on the east side of the capitol, east capitol street on the other side of the barricade, security barricades, still up here on east capitol street. And right behind me, is the actual entrance to the Visitors Center, would you actually walk along that plaza, and then walk down inside or basically walk down a ramp to get into the Visitors Center. Weve spoken with three witnesses, from california, who were there today, who were putting their items on to the xray belts, and were wrapped, about to go through the magnetometers, when suddenly they describe a chaos, that officers came out from every which way, some with long guns, some with handguns, yelling at people, to get out of the Visitors Center. We were told by these witnesses that it was a very, very frightening few minutes they as they took off running they were then told to hide behind a wall at one point, and then other officers came down that ramp toward the Visitor Center yelling that there is an active shooter, and they needed to get out of the area. At that point, they all got up, got their things, and ran up the ramp and basically ran up into this area, right behind me know came up here, we record l number of their visitors, we had them on live earlier today. I can clear up now, some of the confusion, that we had earlier, initially, i was told by two Law Enforcement sources that this was a policeinvolved shooting and that the shooter was shot by the police by the Capitol Police, i put that on twitter, and then, we started seeing report coming from the associated press, that it was the opposite. And associated press, they give out information to all of the news media. And so, thats where the confusion, i believe, came from. And that government officials telling the opposite that it was a Police Officer who was shot. We know that one person, this person, that was known to the Capitol Police, was then taken by ambulance over to the Washington Hospital center, and that person is unknown, in an unknown condition at this point. But, basically, what were being told is that what happened here, and the Security Check point that is set up at the Visitors Center, worked as it is designed to work. And that people that want to get into the us capitol have to come through that check point, and as this person who is known to the Capitol Police approached, that check point, according to the police, he drew a weapon, Police Officers then drew their weapons, and fired on this man, and he was shot and wounded. The woman that we understand was harmed, was not shot. That, according to a Capitol Police press conference, just a few minutes ago, but it is unclear exactly what condition that person is. We told we were told that was a wo years old. So, very, very frightening scene up here at the Visitors Center this afternoon, at this point, there is still some security in place, these barricades, security barricades are still up here on east capitol street. We believe now i think weve been told that those barricades have now been let down on independence avenue and constitution avenue. So thats the latest from up here on capitol hill. Back to you guys. We are continuing our Live Team Coverage now of this breaking news tonight alexandra also live outside the complex, spoke to a man and his son who were split up from the rest of their family while shelter in place today. Can you imagine how scar that i must have been . For so many people who were in the capitol Visitors Center, visiting today, because of spring break, there have been so many people inside, very scary experience for this family, lets check in with alex. What happened with them . Yes, some very scary moments for many visitors, you can imagine, just how crowded the us capitol is on days today, it is spring break, we just passed easter, it is Cherry Blossom season. So very crowded day. I spoke to one family from maryland, here with their 11 year old son, and two other teenage kids, as well as family who was visiting from indianna, they were already on a tour of the capitol when they say someone came into the room that they were in, and told them to get down, because shots had been fired, heres what he had to say. Just fin earned with lurch, getting ready to leave, and we started hearing people say everybody down, everybody start to get out. And unfortunately our family ended upgoing into two different directions, and so, half of us ended up in a stairwell, sheltering in place, the others eventually moved to the long worth building. At that point did you know there had been a shooting or shot fired . Did you know what was going snob. What we heard was somebody had a gun, and that we didnt know anything for quite a while. We eventually did hear from somebody who had person with the gun, and had heard the shots, and thats with a we heard inside. What did they say happened . Reporter what we heard, all third hands, somebody came into the billing, a gun, shot was fired, than somebody may be injured but they thought that they would be okay. Reporter that family also tells me they were shelter in place for about 30 to 45 minutes, you heard him say he had been separate from the part every his family, so it wasnt until after that, they were able to get in touch with them. And of course, everybody in their family was okay. But once you come out, on to the grounds around the capitol, there are lot of police. Us Capitol Police, secret service, Police Walking around with long guns, so when you come out even still pretty concerning scene at that point, very tight security, a lot of the streets in the area were also shutdown, at this point, though, the lockdown order has been lifted, and you can see, traffic again starting to flow in these areas. But i imagine inth on the major streets, it is likely still back up and causing some problems. Guys . Thank you very much. I know, meanwhile, we also have our own jim, here, continuing our Team Coverage tonight. He joins us now in studio with video shot inside it Visitor Center during all of this chaos. We saw some of this earlier. Unbelievable. You can imagine school groups, other people going in, a lot had their cell phones at the ready, we found one, making its rounds. This is from young man named sammy sanchez, visiting from southern california. Once you see the video you will get a sense whatever was going on inside that zoo. I want to show that to you right now if we can. There it is, you get a sense of the chaos inside, i heard a little audio early on, really nothing, nothing decipherable, what you are hearing is a loft panic inside, chaos, people wondering what was going on, you dont hear any gunshot, dont hear any sounds, just the aftermath, and one of the reason we probably havent been seeing m while going through secure till, do you have make sure your phones are going through the magnetometers, so this young man happened to have his phone at the ready at the right place at the right time to gave you a sense whatever they were up against. This is another reason why, when they built the capitol Visitor Center it is almost a city block away from the capitol it s you want to keep threats like this what we saw today away from the capitol itself. Thats one of the reasons the Visitor Center was in place, so far away. Again, as you take a look at the video seeing a lot of this on line, getting a sense whatever people saw, as they documented this im sure, laura, czar, a well see throughout the day, as people share their own memories, own recommendations as to what happened over on capitol hill today. And you know, just coming in through ap, Us Capitol Police say preliminary information indicates the shooting was a criminal act. Okay. There tough. Information continuing to come through. And those videos of course helping tell the story exactly what was going on inside the visitor complex. Jim, thank you. Meanwhile, a fin county Police Officer. Detectives, jack a colson, laid to rest today in home state of pennsylvania. Thousands gathered in Upper Marlboro friday to pay their respect toss officer colson at his funeral, kim by friendly fire earlier this month, during a shooting outside police headquarters. Officers colson would have turned 29 years old, the week he was killed. Private ambulances are now rolling through the district, dc fire and ems started using a contractor to help transport patients this morning. The private Ambulance Service will only take patient with injuries or illnesses that are not life threatening. Dc fire and ems will still arrive on scene to all calls to evaluate patients, theyll determine what care they need, and how they will be transported.
